2string1 wrote: > Would a Cisco Valet Plus be considered a cheap domestic router? "cheap" - if you take that word from me - was the wrong word.. in i put it into "brakets" for a reason. Its low price and that didnt mean its bad|cheap if cheap is the name for something you never would buy again even when its small budget cause it wont do the job or didnt run a long time. There is always a reason for things like that. When i described that "cheap" there is a system behind that - in a Prof. IT Environment you do not want external powersupplies you want internal redundant (two) power supplies with less connections as you can get - cause they can be unplugged by accident. And you want devices without heat hotspots cause of your air cooling system runs better with defined heat hotspots. You even dont want to have the fat powerplugs/converter cause the stuff is powered by uninterruptible power supplys. And the just have IEC (power) connectors. You dont want nothing from that in your home. In a Home environment you dont want a router|switch|whatever with a fat cable and a (pair of) fans. Flat ether cat. 6, in real life: same perfs as a shielded, very sturdy cat6 cable. I have a mac connected to a giga switch connected to another that trunks 2 links into a powerdge server. I have seen no difference whatsoever in performance when doing transfers over NFS when I changed the link between the mac and the switch to a flat cable. The only real difference is that the cable is not bulletproof as we were used to. And it usually comes in various colors, too. 4 SB 3 iPeng (iPhone + iPad) Squeezebox Server 7.9 (linux) with plugins: CD Player, WaveInput by bpa IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) Server Power Control by Gordon Harris Smart Mix, Music Walk With Me, What Was That Tune? by Michael Herger PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld ShairTunes2 by disaster123 Local Player, BBC iPlayer by Triode Auto Dim Display, SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104828 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Ethernet Cable
Let me explain something you have no advantage using 100 octane fuel on your scooter. You should use 100 octane fuel on your highoutput car/Motorcycle (if the compression is that high that you need that stuff) You should always use the things for the reason they have been made designed for. Always use something like Cat5 for your home equipment. Cause most of all is "cheap" stuff made for home small office. In a Server Environment there is a complete other situation - eg. all Hardware is powered by internal powersupplies / Converter and everything is grounded not only cause the Rack is grounded even all power cords uses 3 separate cables to deliver alternating current to the Device. In this scenario you should always use shielded versions of the cable. In a Home Environment - where most of your equipment is powered by external power converters that only delivers direct current to the devices and no earth - you should use unshielded Versions of the Cable. It does not matter if your using higher specs than needed but it does matter not to use lower specs than needed or faulty cables (then they didnt match any specs). Take a carefully look: [image: http://www.gepanet.com/strukturierte-verkabelung.png] All pairs have different twists and these twist are made for a reason - no pulse overlapping between the transmit and recieve lines.
