Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch reboots of own accord?

2016-02-05 Thread rduine

Strange, since i use spotify on my squeezebox touch ive got the same
problem.

Sometimes, when i change a playlist in the spotify app, it locks up and
after a few seconds reboots the touch, and then it starts playing that
playlist.

I've re-installed the latest 7.8 firmware (was using the edo mod), and
even got a new power supply, but it seems that the problem stayed.

Last couple of days ive removed the playlist before selecting a new one
in spotify and until now it seems to work, but can also be luck ;)

I also use spotify, think it's the unofficial plugin, but can't remember
exactly from here. The behaviour was definitely not linked to any active
spotify session for me. Occurred apparently randomly irrespective of
what was currently playing or what had played last.

I think one of the problems with diagnosing the watchdog forcing a
reboot is that it can be triggered by any event that causes a timeout
waiting for a response. The symptom may be the same but there could be
any number of reasons. Good luck with your spotify problem!

Watchdog expiry won't happen waiting for a response from network - it
will typically happen if code gets stuck in an execute loop or spends
too much time processing without waiting/checking for an event.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch reboots of own accord?

2016-02-03 Thread Learnincurve

Sorry to keep confusing this thread.

The behaviour was slightly different after the forced kernel update, but
the system did continue to lock up (I had to manually reboot).

In the end I completely removed EDO and have now been running for a
further two weeks without any lock-ups or reboots at all. The system
seems completely stable.

Sadly I am now limited to the 96k sample rate.

I know that Triode is no longer around to support his excellent work,
but does anyone know where to find his source or kernel config to see if
an updated kernel can be made, that would be fully compatible with the
later firmware? Of course I am still guessing at the reason for the
lockups and crashes, but I have no other plugins running directly on the
SBT.

I forced an update of the edo kernel, as a first step before factory
resetting to standard FW. Low and behold:

SBT has been running all weekend without a single crash.

I had thought that edo automatically updated to the latest kernel at
install (that option was selected in the config), but maybe that's not
the case.

Anyway. Fingers crossed, it seems to be working so far.

Supply is suspect if the FW is factory restored (button at the back )
and no modification or apps (EDO ,TT3, Clock screensaver etc ) . Afiak
its designed to reboot when squeezplay crashes it must always run . It
can possibly be the odd crash now and then and the Touch quietly reboots
.

Mine SBT just rebooted itself as well. No EDO. Latest firmware as far as
I know. LMS 7.9. This is the first time I have noticed it happen.

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I am getting this as well. Seems to happen completely randomly,
irrespective of what the SBT is doing (if anything). I have the unit set
to blank the screen when asleep, but most mornings when I get up and
most evenings when I come back from work, the unit has rebooted and the
default (clock) screensaver is showing again. I have collected some
dmesg output (at home, including the kernel dumps when the system goes
doen, but haven't managed to identify any event that triggers the crash.
As with Bluedroog, I am using the EDO plugin and the SBT firmware is
the "Later" version (bundled with the 7.9 branch of LMS).

When listening to BBC Radio I rarely get more than 1/2 an hour
at-a-time between crashes. One suspect is the power supply. Perhaps it
is not supplying enough voltage?? Does anyone know if the rail voltages
are monitored by the touch? I couldn't find anything in /proc

Can post the logs here this evening or tomorrow if it will help.

I think the watchdog is hardware which resets the unit if the watchdog
timer is not reset regulallry (i.e. to prevent lockup by a task) which
is why there is s/w trace of what is happening.

I still think trying the system using standard f/w is worthwhile - to
definitively say EDO is or is not part of the problem. I think Touch
firmware has been updated since EDO has been released and there is a
small possibility there is an imcompatibility.

Hi Bpa and thanks for your reply,

I'm using edo over s/pdif (analog output disabled), purely to allow
higher sample rates. I have ssh'd in and tailed dmesg, allowing me to
grab the dump when the system reboots and the ssh session dies. I don't
recognise any trigger event, although there is quite a bit of dump
information.

I use your reworked BBC Triode plugin for BBC. Mostly R3 live DASH.

Will try removing everything when I get time and running the touch
without mods for a few days.

Can you say anything about the kernel that is installed with EDO? Do
you know if this is compatible with the r.7.8...something SBT firmware
that is bundled with LMS 7.9.x

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch reboots of own accord?

2015-03-20 Thread Bluedroog

I’ve had this a few times in the past but recently it has become quite
frequent, most listening sessions are now interrupted by this. I will be
enjoying some tunes and usually when I’m trying to change album or
something (I mostly stream Spotify on MSB.com) the Touch becomes
unresponsive for 10-15 seconds then the screen goes black, I get the EDO
unsupported message and then all is fine till the next time….

Any ideas? Thanks.
