Status in “evolution-data-server” source package in Trusty:

Bug description:
[Impact] Google calendar integration is broken, and users are
requested to re-enter their Google password everytime they log in, or
everytime they enable/disable their Google account from the System
  Settings.

  [Test Case]
  1) open gnome-online-accounts
  2) click + and add a google account
  3) enter user name and password
  4) confirm permissions for gnome
  5) Black window pops up and asks for google password, but does not accept the
correct password.
Google Contacts are not available in Gnome or Thunderbird

[Regression Potential] Minimal: the fix is a backport of a patch from
the evolution-data-server code which is already in 14.10, and which
only touches the calendar code (which is currently broken).

Gnome online accounts requires autentication on startup, but even typing the
correct password in the box, the program says the password is wrong. By the way
evolution and other programs work well with online accounts. I'm using
Ubuntu-gnome 14.04 LTS 64bit on different machines and have the same behaviour.
Just to be clear: online-accounts works well, just at startup it opens an
administration window where it requires to insert the password for my google
accounts; if I type the correct password it says that the password is wrong,
the only way to close the window is to click on discard and then all works
well.

Bug description:
The auto-login service for GMail accounts gives Applications can no
longer access online accounts error everytime it attempts to connect.
It also cannot sustain connections for other online services
(facebook, yahoo, etc.) and requires me to grant access to the
services again and again. I can confirm my passwords are correct.

Also, granting access to yahoo mail and facebook works flawlessly, but
the GMail 'Grant Access' interface is buggy, and just doesn't work.
On entering password and clicking 'Done' it brings back the same
screen, as though nothing happened. Over and over again. If you click
cancel a few times, it brings you back to the screen with the list of
online accounts, while it attempts to connect to the services, in
vain. Also, overall the friends service is buggy. It doesn't show me
notifications from facebook, nor has it synced events from my google
calenders. I cannot tell you when this problem started exactly,
neither can i guess what might have caused the problem. If you need
some log files, please tell me, i'll upload them asap. I don't have
accounts in many of the services listed there, so i might not be able
to help you with other services. I really hope there's a solution to
this, because its always lovely to see a well polished desktop
  environment :)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369424] [NEW] LibreOffice windows and dialogs do not receive focus on startup (KDE, Razorqt)

2014-09-15 Thread cleary
Public bug reported:

I hope I've got the correct package to log this against.

Symptom:
LibreOffice dialogs (such as password prompts, plaintext/csv imports etc) do
not receive WM focus if a LibreOffice app is running and minimised.
This causes a fairly severe usability issue, where it seems like LibreOffice
has crashed, since nothing seems to happen when you click (and continue to
click) to open a file that requires user action on a dialog.

I've replicated the issue in KDE and RazorQT which is why I'm logging it
against this qt-x11 package.

It affects 12.04 and 14.04 (tested, I imagine there are more)

The issue does not occur in Unity or Gnome.

I made two videos - based on:

Ubuntu 12.04, bog standard install. Add kde via:
  sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

add this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-4-3
upgrade all libreoffice packages to 4.3.0.4:
  sudo apt-get install $(dpkg -l | grep libreoffice | awk '{print $2}')

Video 1: Unity Desktop, expected (correct) behaviour

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1362150] Re: [Greeter] SIM PIN unlock usability needs improving

2014-09-15 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
That seems reasonable -- it's equivalent to an e-mail program asking you
for your password when you try to check for or send e-mail without the
password saved.

Remember to add it to the specification, though -- currently the spec
doesn't mention SIM PIN at all.

Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Several bugs have been reported related to using the PIN unlock
  Grouping here for review

  Add feedback on failed attempts
   - The dialog tells you how many attempts you have remaining before a PUK
code will be required
   - Entering the wrong PIN will result in a clear message to user of the
failure and an update of the attempts remaining count

After cancelling SIM unlock, how to unlock is not obvious:
  1.Insert this SIM card
  2.Power on device
  3. Popup SIM PIN unlock interface after power on device
  4. cancel this dialog
  5. Go to phone app to make a call
It is not obvious that the next step should be to drag down the indicator and
use the unlock button.

the phone and messaging apps should have a shorthand button clearly
visible to unlock the relevant SIM so that the user does not have to
know to go to the indicator-network first to be able to make
  phonecalls or send SMS

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369438] [NEW] Class 2 SMS reply-options are cut off by 2-line body-text limit

2014-09-15 Thread Mirco Müller
Public bug reported:

I was just trying up the balance of my Vodafone CallYa SIM-card by
sending the dial-code *100#. The reply from my provider, which is
presented as a snap-decision notification (with a text-entry), had its
body-text cut short by the newly enforced 2-line limit of body-text.

Because of this text-limit, I was not able to read the whole set of
options (and associated numbers) usually presented in this snap-
decisions' body-text. Thus I was not able to see which numbers I have to
enter to navigate the balance-related functions.

It is currently impossible to up the balance of my prepaid SIM-card due
to this bug.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1368492] Re: crash opening image file

2014-09-15 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
This backtrace does not make any sense. ThumbnailCache object exists:

#3 0xacebec62 in ThumbnailCache::get_if_exists (this=0x7641d4

but ThumbnailCachePrivate does not:

#2 ThumbnailCachePrivate::get_cache_file_name (this=0x0

I went through the code but found no code path that could possibly lead
to this. The private variable is only assigned to in the constructor
with new. If it fails it should throw an exception so the ThumbnailCache
object is never created.

Bug description:
I've created a bridge with network-manager-gnome, the bridge slave
physical device is eth0. After a reboot the bridge is brought up, but
  eth0 isn't attached.

  First test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0 and remove all other connections. After a reboot the bridge is
brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. When I open
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and save it without any modification,
eth0 is instantly added to my bridge. Strange!

  Second test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0. Disable the autoconnect of the default wired network. After a
reboot the bridge is brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. Instead eth0 is
brought up and full configured.

After compiling and testing different upstream versions, i could track
the problem down to bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch. A
network-manager package without this specific patch, brings my bridge
up at boot and adds eth0 to the bridge in both test-cases.

I've checked the behaviour on my ubuntu 13.10 box with network-manager
(0.9.8.0-0ubuntu22) and the trusty version network-manager
  (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu1) .

Till now i couldn't encounter any sideeffects of removing this patch
with the bridge created by libvirt.

  Regards
  Mathias Kresin

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1278569] Re: ibus breaks emacs and eclipse control-space keybinding

2014-09-15 Thread era
Based on earlier suggestions, I worked around this by changing the
keybinding to CtrlAltspace. The dialog to change this is not
entirely intuitive; you have to click the [...] button next to the
current binding.

For the record, Xubuntu 14.04 and ibus 1.5.5-1ubuntu3

Bug description:
  Installing ibus 1.5.5-1ubuntu1 breaks Emacs 24's control-space
keybinding. I generally have that bound to a custom lisp function,
but by default (e.g. starting with `emacs -Q`) it is bound to set-
mark-command. After doing a dist-upgrade in Trusty which installs
ibus 1.5.5-1ubuntu1, emacs no longer even sees the control-space key
chord. My guess is that ibus is consuming this event, preventing
emacs from seeing it. This is a critical regression that makes emacs
  almost unusable.

By process of elimination, I've narrowed it down to one of these 4
  binary packages.

Bug description:
Currently when setting a PIN on the device, it must be 4 digits. This
is artificially limiting. Other platforms (eg Android) allow longer
PINs. It has always been my understanding that we should support
Swipe, Passphrase and PIN where Passphrase and PIN can be arbitrarily
  long.

However, once longer PINs are supported, we will have to add an Enter
key. Right now, the lockscreen checks the PIN once 4 digits are added
so that you don't have to press Enter. I guess this was done for
usability, but would be a security issue because an attacker can
easily determine the PIN length, which makes it easier to for an
attacker to guess the PIN. Eg, if I have a 5 digit PIN set, then an
attacker need only type '1' and know that the PIN is only five
characters. Now, a PIN isn't strong to begin with and an automated
attack could rather quickly brute force PINs, but we shouldn't make it
easier for someone manually trying to guess the PIN.

The passphrase lockscreen prompt correctly allows variable length
passphrases and requires you to press Enter.

I suggest moving the 'X' up t the left of '0' and an Enter symbol to
  the rigth of '0'.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1368839] Re: [Design] Application opening animation to start from where the launching action is rooted

2014-09-15 Thread Michael Zanetti
Since the Dash is a separate application (separate process) and the
animation is done by unity8 this would require some inter process
communication on the start coordinates. Currently UAL is used to launch
applications and that doesn't support such a thing.

Status in Ubuntu Keyboard:

Status in “ubuntu-keyboard” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When a device is locked by a pass-phrase and OSK is configured with several
kb layouts (which is the case if he selects a non-english locale during initial
setup), the user can still launch (but not use) OSK's settings by revealing the
keyboard, tapping the 'Globe icon' then tapping on 'Settings'.
Then he taps on 'Emergency call' when OSK settings screens finishes loading,
it is very briefly displayed on top of the dialer and the screen lock
reappears. If the user quickly tap on the settings screen it makes the dialer
unusable and the device must be rebooted.

I proposed translations for the new strings for Italian. The language
team will review them and hopefully they will appear in the image soon.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369474] [NEW] Conversation tagged with wrong contact after sending sms

2014-09-15 Thread Tomas Öqvist
Public bug reported:

Mako running MultiROM with #239

1. Enter an existing conversation
2. Send an sms
3. Look at the top of the screen, which have now changed to another contact
than in the original conversation.

Gives me the creeps when it looks as if I sent a text to the wrong
recipient, until I find out that the messaging app is only kidding.

Going back, the intended conversation shows at the top of the
conversations as it should, and reentering that conversation also shows
the correct contact.

** Affects: messaging-app (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369476] [NEW] No sound input/output via bluetooth headset in HSP/HFP mode

2014-09-15 Thread Hui Wang
Public bug reported:

On a machine without fixed connecting audio devices like internal
microphone or internal speaker, And when there is no external audio
devices plugging in, the default source/sink is alsa_input/alsa_output
and there is no input devices/output devices listed in the gnome
sound-setting.

Under this situation, if we connect a bluetooth headset, the gnome
sound-setting will list bluez input/output devices, but they are not
active devices by default. This looks very weird that sound-setting
lists only one input device and one output device, but they are not
active. To change this situation, we add an argument, the policy is
if a new source/sink is connected and current default source/sink's
active_port is AVAILABLE_NO, we let the new added one switch to
default one.

This is worse that I originally though since you can actually *launch*
any app on the launcher without unlocking the phone. You can't see it,
but it is running (unlocking confirms this).

** Summary changed:

- able to left swipe and see launcher icons without unlocking phone
+ able to left swipe and launch apps without unlocking phone

When we create a trusted prompt session over an application, let's say a
small dialog, and then switch applications, when we switch back to the original
application the dialog is not overlayed on top of the original application. The
program providing the dialog seems happy, and is still running, but visually it
is not there.

We notice this when using the payments UI which overlays ontop of the
dash. In some cases we need to show Online Accounts which runs as an
independent application and causes a switching behavior. When
returning back to the dash the Payment UI is not visible. It also
happens if the Payment UI is visible and you switch applications using
  the right swipe.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369535] [NEW] Xmodmap works abnormally on Ubuntu14.04,the key mappings will be reset after a few minutes

2014-09-15 Thread zyr
Public bug reported:

I want to swap theses two keys: Caps_Lock and Control_L, my configuration file
as follows:
~/.profile:
if [ -f $HOME/.xmodmaprc ]; then
xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc
fi

~/.xmodmaprc :
remove Lock = Caps_Lock
remove Control = Control_L
keysym Control_L = Caps_Lock
keysym Caps_Lock = Control_L
add Lock = Caps_Lock
add Control = Control_L

The same configuration, On Ubuntu12.04, it worked properly. After the
upgrade, it works abnormally, after a few minutes, the key mappings will
be rest, I have to run 'xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc' again and again.

I also use a virtual machine, and the key mapping changes can't map to
the guest system, but ubuntu12.04 don't have this problem.

I am sure my configuration file “.xmodmaprc“ had not been “called” by
other softs or system repeatedly.

  keysym Caps_Lock = Control_L

The same configuration, On Ubuntu12.04, it worked properly. After the
upgrade, it works abnormally, after a few minutes, the key mappings
will be rest, I have to run 'xmodmap ~/.xmodmaprc' again and again.

I also use a virtual machine, and the key mapping changes can't map
to the guest system, but ubuntu12.04 don't have this problem.

I am sure my configuration file “.xmodmaprc“ had not been “called” by
  other softs or system repeatedly.

lockless FASTBIN _int_free path, a chunk is pulled into a local
variable with the intent to add it to the fastbins list. However, the
heap consolidation/trim code can race with this, and can coalesce the
entire block and/or give it back to the OS before _int_free has a
chance to try and store it into the fastbins list.

The problem is very challenging to reproduce in situ, but using gdb I
have a recipe which demonstrates the crash 100% of the time on my
12.04 x64 system running eglibc 2.15. It relies on malloc_trim,
although in our in situ data, the consolidation is triggered as a
result of a normal free. malloc_trim is just easier to control.

While I am not a glibc developer, I could not see any easy ways to fix
the situation shy of disabling ATOMIC_FASTBINS.

I am attaching the reproduction source. Other pertinent information
  follows:

   jpieper@calculon:~/downloads$ lsb_release -rd
   Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
   Release:12.04

   jpieper@calculon:~/downloads$ apt-cache policy libc6
   libc6:
 Installed: 2.15-0ubuntu10
 Candidate: 2.15-0ubuntu10
 Version table:
*** 2.15-0ubuntu10 0
  500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What I expect: I expect the attached application, when run using the gdb
script in the comments, to complete with no failures.
What happened: A SIGSEGV after the final continue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1326105] Re: AppArmor policy for scope zmq access is too lenient

Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1326105

Title:
AppArmor policy for scope zmq access is too lenient

Status in “unity-scopes-api” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Currently in apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu 1.2.3 we have:
    owner /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/Registry-s rw,
    owner /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/Registry-pr,
    owner /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/c-*-r rw,

Note that all scopes, regardless of whether they use the ubuntu-scope-
network or ubuntu-scope-local-content templates have access to these
overlapped accesses. While we discussed the apparmor policy at length
at the recent sprint, in thinking about this more there are still a
  few issues:

   1. How will the scope-registry handle when either
  /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/Registry-s or /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/Registry-p
  already exists?

   2. In addition to dealing with /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/c-*-r possibly
already existing, there is an additional issue with this access--
  because the ubuntu-scope-network and ubuntu-scope-local-content
templates both allow this access, this allows a malicious scope author
to create a scope using the ubuntu-scope-local-content template, then
collect files off the filesystem and store them in
  /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/c-I_can_leak_your_files.tar.gz-c, then upload a
new version of the scope using the ubuntu-scope-network template,
  which can then ship
  /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/c-I_can_leak_your_files.tar.gz-c off to a remote
server when the user upgrades (the fact that it is in /run doesn't
really help-- the malicious scope can save the file in its scope-
specific directory then copy it in to place to make sure it is always
  there).

For '1', standard defensive programming should be sufficient and
someone should verify that the scopes API is handling when these files
already exist (as sockets, regular files, etc, etc).

For '2', standard defensive programming should also be used, but that
isn't enough. I suggested at the sprint that these endpoints should be
made application specific by their name like with the other endpoints,
but was told this is problematic. I can (and will) update the apparmor
  policy to use this rule:

    owner

/run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/c-[0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f][0-9a-f]-r
  rw,

but this doesn't solve the problem since a malicious app writer will
just pick something matching that apparmor regular expression (AARE).
AIUI, it is difficult/impossible to make these endpoints application
specific (eg, /run/user/[0-9]*/zmq/c-@{APP_PKGNAME}-r which would be
the preferred fix). If that is the case, we can either namespace this
endpoint in zmq/local-fs/c-*r and zmq/local-net/c-*r and adjust the
policy templates accordingly. I have a feeling this will have the same
problems (or worse) as making the endpoint application specific since
you'd need to track the type of scope this is. Alternatively, you
could have a garbage collector to unconditionally remove any non-unix
domain socket files and unused unix domain socket files that match
zmq/c-*-r. While making these endpoints application specific would be
cleanest from a policy point of view, implementing good garbage
collection (perhaps triggered on scope start/register) would be
  sufficient to close this bug.

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1300684] Re: locale-gen --purge stops after purging the locales

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 dev with locales 2.13+git20120306-12 and
upstart 1.12.1-0ubuntu1 and I have found a combination between locale-
gen and upstart to cause some weird behavior. Initially my locales are
  looking this:

  root@ubuntu:~# locale -a
  C
  C.UTF-8
  de_AT.utf8
  de_BE.utf8
  de_CH.utf8
  de_DE.utf8
  de_LI.utf8
  de_LU.utf8
  en_US.utf8
  POSIX

Here is an example script (stored in /etc/init/test.conf):

  exec locale-gen --purge

  Here is the result:

  root@ubuntu:~# start test sleep 60 locale -a
  test stop/waiting
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_COLLATE to default locale: No such file or directory
  C
  C.UTF-8
  POSIX

locale-gen has purged the locales but something has caused it to stop then.
But if I'm forwarding stdout to /dev/null all is working fine. Here is the
updated script:

  exec locale-gen --purge /dev/null

And this is now the result:

  root@ubuntu:~# start test sleep 60 locale -a
  test stop/waiting
  C
  C.UTF-8
  de_AT.utf8
  de_BE.utf8
  de_CH.utf8
  de_DE.utf8
  de_LI.utf8
  de_LU.utf8

Currently the pinlock dialog is implemented as snapdecision and thus
any application that is allowed to use the notifications can
potentially trick the user to provide his PIN code or Passcode to the
application by invoking the pinlock dialog.

As we want to allow applications to send normal notifications and
snapdecisions we can't just block the whole notify service from them,
but also we don't have any means to block just one of them.

Thus the only solution is to remove the pinlock from snap decisions
completely and implement a standalone dbus service for pinlock dialog
  which can be properly confined.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369457] Re: able to left swipe and launch apps without unlocking phone

I think much of this is by design. The security team doesn't consider
launching apps behind the lockscreen a security issue. These apps are
subjected to application lifecycle and will not continue running.
However, the other behaviors may be bugs-- I'll ask someone to comment.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369457] Re: able to left swipe and launch apps without unlocking phone

2014-09-15 Thread Michael Terry
Added an Ubuntu UX task. Some guidance on how you feel about reordering
/ un-pinning icons when screen is locked would be nice.

I know we've separately talked about launching apps being acceptable.
So I'll adjust bug title to match current open question.

Bug description:
Currently the pinlock dialog is implemented as snapdecision and thus
any application that is allowed to use the notifications can
potentially trick the user to provide his PIN code or Passcode to the
application by invoking the pinlock dialog.

As we want to allow applications to send normal notifications and
snapdecisions we can't just block the whole notify service from them,
but also we don't have any means to block just one of them.

Thus the only solution is to remove the pinlock from snap decisions
completely and implement a standalone dbus service for pinlock dialog
  which can be properly confined.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369457] Re: Can re-order and un-pin launcher items while phone is locked

2014-09-15 Thread James Hunt
Personally, I'm happy for the lock screen to show date+time but I would
prefer everything else to be hidden (or ateast hideable with a system-
setting) until the phone is unlocked.

The majority of users may not mind if the notification bar is displayed
when the screen is locked (Android does this), but I think it would be
prudent to add an option to hide this as some users/customers will
prefer to minimise any privacy leakage (particularly if we grow the
scope of the notification bar in the future).

Regarding the launcher:

1) What is the use-case for wanting to launch an app when the phone is locked?
2) What is the use-case for wanting to re-order the icons when the phone is
locked?

I don't believe users would be happy if either of the above actions
could occur on a desktop system, so why allow it on Touch?

If nothing else, allowing such features increases the probability of
pocket-dialing-type issues (I left the phone in state X but now I come
to unlock the phone it's mysteriously in state Y. What happened?)

** Summary changed:

- Can re-order and un-pin launcher items while phone is locked

Can re-order and un-pin launcher items and launch apps while phone is

Bug description:
This is atleast a privacy issue but could also be a security depending
on exactly what apps the user has pinned to their launcher.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1362150] Re: [Greeter] SIM PIN unlock usability needs improving

2014-09-15 Thread Michael Zanetti
The lock screen visual can be contextual for every app and user will be able
to unlock the SIM(s) directly, without navigating somewhere else.
E.g. dialer: You have to unlock your SIM(s), before you can make a phone
 call.

This one sounds worrying to me... Lock screen design should *always* be
the same, ideally in a way app's can't even create it. Otherwise we're
gonna have password phishing attacks like crazy.

Title:
[Greeter] SIM PIN unlock usability needs improving

Status in Network Menu:
  New
Status in Ubuntu UX bugs:
  Fix Committed
Status in “indicator-network” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Several bugs have been reported related to using the PIN unlock
  Grouping here for review

  Add feedback on failed attempts
   - The dialog tells you how many attempts you have remaining before a PUK
code will be required
   - Entering the wrong PIN will result in a clear message to user of the
failure and an update of the attempts remaining count

After cancelling SIM unlock, how to unlock is not obvious:
  1.Insert this SIM card
  2.Power on device
  3. Popup SIM PIN unlock interface after power on device
  4. cancel this dialog
  5. Go to phone app to make a call
It is not obvious that the next step should be to drag down the indicator and
use the unlock button.

the phone and messaging apps should have a shorthand button clearly
visible to unlock the relevant SIM so that the user does not have to
know to go to the indicator-network first to be able to make
  phonecalls or send SMS

dutch keyboard layout lacks a .com option

Status in “ubuntu-keyboard” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
In terms of popularity I would think that when entering an email
address .com is a popular option. A lot of people use services like
hotmail.com or gmail.com, so the ubuntu-keyboard should have an option
  for entering .com quickly.
