[Touch-packages] [Bug 1317085] Re: [mir]Touchpad edge swipes
** Description changed: I think it would be awesome to support touchpad edge swipes (fingers crossing the edge of the touchpad, swiping in). I don't know if we would be swiping with two fingers or one (one finger is more likely to be confused with another action that the user wants to perform, like moving the mouse cursor). Functionality can be the same or very similar to what we are doing on the phone: right-edge to switch between apps (or bring in the side stage), left edge shows the launcher, bottom edge would depend on what the app wants to do with it, and top edge can show system settings. + + -- + Desired design: + + Two finger swipe across the touchpad edge should perform corresponding Unity8 touch interface edge gesture. + - Left edge short swipe - invokes the launcher if hidden + - Left edge long swipe - reveals desktop app + - Right edge short swipe - switches to the previously used app + - Right edge long swipe - spread/task switcher + - Bottom edge swipe - bottom edge action in currently focused app window + - Top edge swipe - indicators reveal + + Note that gesture should be traceable the same way as in touch + interface. So as soon as the touchpad edge swipe is detected user + controls the gesture and progress of the action is visible on the + screen. Use control is the key throughout the gesture. Here we should + follow what happens in Unity8 touch interface. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Triaged = Fix Committed ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Importance: Wishlist = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1317085 Title: [mir]Touchpad edge swipes Status in Ubuntu UX: Fix Committed Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I think it would be awesome to support touchpad edge swipes (fingers crossing the edge of the touchpad, swiping in). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1444840] Re: MMS wrongly reported as sent or not received
@Noemí, did you test with OTA-5? It contained some fixes, among them one for bug #1471740 which can easily stop reception of MMS. If you find it is still failing, please follow the instructions in https://github.com/sergiusens/network-test-session to collect logs that you can attach to the bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-download-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1444840 Title: MMS wrongly reported as sent or not received Status in Canonical System Image: Fix Committed Status in nuntium package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ubuntu-download-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I tried to send an MMS. In the end messaging app showed reported success sending. The message never arrived. However, I sent another MMS right after that and that one was sent in just a few seconds and was received on the other end. Taking a look at ~/.cache/upstart/dbus.log I see this error for the penultimate MMS sent: E0416 06:55:58.113751 11223 file_upload.cpp:345] Upload ID{ e685ebedf31046ada4300c8b3113c07f } http://www.pepephone.com ERROR::Network error ContentNotFoundError: the remote content was not found at the server (similar to HTTP error 404) This points to this error not being propagated to messaging app somewhat. Maybe nuntium is not the culprit here, but I did not know where to report this, so please add to the right project. Logs attached in tarball. krillin / RTM proposed image 270 The same error (ContentNotFoundError) can be also seen when *receiving* an MMS, when *uploading* the confirmation of MMS received to the server. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1458014] Re: audit_printk_skb slowing down boot
I will look into bootcharts as soon as possible. I was expecting more info from the log of step #6. You will recall that rate limiting gave the following kind of output: [ 17.062400] init: plymouth-upstart-bridge main process ended, respawning [ 42.218430] audit_printk_skb: 177 callbacks suppressed When /etc/sysctl.d/99-printk_ratelimiting.conf with kernel.printk_ratelimit=0 was implemented, I expected detail on those callbacks. Instead, I got: [ 17.530175] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready [ 19.396738] init: plymouth-upstart-bridge main process ended, respawning [ 44.236269] type=1400 audit(1437703237.706:71): apparmor=STATUS operation=profile_replace profile=unconfined name=/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf pid=2413 comm=apparmor_parser What happened between 19 secs and 44 secs? Remember, this is a fast 4 core machine. I would appreciate your thoughts on that? Then we can look at bootcharts. Despite the good intentions, that never actually taught people about the correct interfaces. Now with the advent of co-installability of multiple init systems, users may have systemd, upstart, and sysv-init all installed on users system and have init.d scripts / upstart jobs / systemd units all available. To avoid any daubt, we should support executing /etc/init.d/ scripts which may call into upstart, or into systemd, or actually execute the script in question depending on whether there is native configuration for that particular job and which init system we are running under. [ test case ] Invoking init.d script should invoke upstart commands, for example: $ /etc/init.d/ssh status ssh start/running, process 4620 $ /etc/init.d/ssh stop stop: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type=method_call, sender=:1.2469694 (uid=1000 pid=3908 comm=stop ssh ) interface=com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job member=Stop error name=(unset) requested_reply=0 destination=com.ubuntu.Upstart (uid=0 pid=1 comm=/sbin/init) $ sudo /etc/init.d/ssh stop ssh stop/waiting $ sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start ssh start/running, process 5373 $ sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart ssh stop/waiting ssh start/running, process 5405 Description:Ubuntu 13.10 Release:13.10 mysql-server-5.5: Installed: 5.5.35-0ubuntu0.13.10.1 Candidate: 5.5.35-0ubuntu0.13.10.1 Version table: *** 5.5.35-0ubuntu0.13.10.1 0 500 http://us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 5.5.32-0ubuntu7 0 500 http://us-east-1.ec2.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/main amd64 Packages In Ubuntu 13.10, the Upstart job and the init.d script do not work properly. In previous versions, the init.d script was a symlink to the wrapper script around upstart (/lib/init/upstart-job). This conflict means that if the server was started using the init.d script, upstart does not recognize that the server is running and will attempt to start a second instance of mysqld. Also problematic is that if the upstart job is started using the service or start commands, the init.d script's stop function runs a mysql shutdown, but upstart simply restarts mysqld (because it's marked respawn in the upstart config). Description: Ubuntu 14.04 Release: 14.04 mysql: mysql-server-5.5.43-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 The problem in some setup was that the upgrade von 12.04 to 14.04 requres the adjustment of the InnoDB log size. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1476705] Re: [SOLVED] postscript printer hideously slow in some cases (pdftops)
pdftocairo is limited by the fact that cairo only handles sRGB. It is therefore unsuitable any time color is important, eg if the pdf uses cmyk or named colors or icc profiles, et cetera. It is fine for printing most web pages, since the browser likely also is limited to sRGB. And for simple personal or office documents, all momochrome document and the like. But pdftops is better for more general documents, and therefore makes better sence for the default filter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to poppler in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1476705 Title: [SOLVED] postscript printer hideously slow in some cases (pdftops) Status in poppler package in Ubuntu: New Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: With my (old) postscript printer, print a single page can take many minutes on some situations. It happens with some PDF files (not all) and Firefox printing of Google map, for example. When this happens, I observed in system monitor that pdftops is running continuously. After some manual PDF - PS conversions, I see that pdftops inflates the file size for problematic cases, but is ok for other files (size similar to the original file, or even smaller). I don't know if modern Postscript printers can handle this quickly, but it's unacceptable here and certainly not an efficient way to print those files. So I suspect that pdftops should be fixed. For example, I join a problematic pdf produced by Google Map in Firefox. I tried many conversions. As you can see, I get a much larger file (36 times) with pdftops. It is worse with pdf2ps (and it takes longer to process), so replace pdftops by pdf2ps is not an option for me. However, pdftocairo quickly produces an efficient file. I have the same success if I open the PDF file with Evince and print it as a Postscript file. I get a similar file if I print to PS directly from Google Map (Firefox). Of course these small PS files produced by pdftocairo, Evince of Firefox print flawlessly on my printer. See also Bug # 1095498 which I suspect is the same (old) thing, but I fill a new one since it doesn't seem to be printer specific. Of course, another workaround could be to use a PCL driver but no one is available for my printer (HP Color Laserjet 2605dn). Pair that with the header going off-screen to leave more screen for the content, you have to pull the header in first (and you need to know that's where the button will be). An example of this behaviour is the calendar app when adding/editing an event. One other example (although that could be improved easily by auto-saving the new note as soon as it's edited) is the Quick Memo app, where when you create a note in the first place you need to tap the ✓ icon, but when you're editing, it's all auto-saved and you need to tap 〈 to go back to the list of notes. Public bug reported: When clicking a message to expand that message, the message is still truncated. This used to expand and show the complete message (several month ago). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1427958] Re: [MIR] media-hub
To clarify: I adjusted the overrides in wily for the aforementioned packages so that the oxide-qt in the ubuntu-mozilla-security ppa could build. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to telepathy-qt5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1427958 Title: [MIR] media-hub Status in media-hub package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in telepathy-qt5 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: * Rationale Media-hub is a dependency of the new oxide-qt version. Media-hub provides a media server/service that is currently used by the Ubuntu Touch stack, and the dependency with Oxide was created in order for Oxide to support background playback (without letting the phone suspend, allowing the user to use websites such as grooveshark). * Dependencies Besides telepathy-qt5 (which is also included as a bug task), the remaining dependencies are all approved for main (dbus-cpp and process-cpp were moved back to universe but the MIR for them are already approved by bug 1218896 and bug 1270234). The dependency against telepathy-qt5 is required in order for the media-server to be allowed to react on telephony events (like stopping playback when receiving calls). Telepathy-qt5 is the same package as telepathy-qt, but built against the Qt 5 stack. * Maintenance: Media-hub is maintained by Ubuntu upstream (Phone Foundations team), and it is a core part of the Ubuntu Touch stack (main service responsible for multimedia playback). Telepathy-qt5 is currently maintained by the Ubuntu Touch Apps team, and also a core piece of the Ubuntu Touch stack. * Standard compliance: The packages are created according to our daily-build inline packaging rules and being daily-released in cu2d, so they comply to our Ubuntu packaging standards already. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1471695] [NEW] To dark, invisible icons
You have been subscribed to a public bug: What I already wrote on the ubuntu-phone mailing list and what many people found also as a problem is the visibility of the icons in the panel. I attached a photo from my bq. One of the photos was taken in a quite dark room so we are able to see the icons more or less clearly but then outside I'm only able to clearly see the active icon even with the brightness set on 100%. How could anyone create grey icons on a grey background?! My proposition is all icons white, and the active one alien-green like #12ed0d or light orange. Yellow will also be not the very best idea. In my opinion the best solution is light-green and white and then the background can stay as it is now. The other member of Polish Translators Team has a MX4 with the same problem so it is not only bq. ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- To dark, invisible icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1471695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1478035] [NEW] pkg-config --static --libs gnutls includes an option that gcc doesn't recognize (-R)
Public bug reported: The output of pkg-config --static --libs gnutls is the following: -R/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -lgnutls -lgcrypt -lgpg-error -ltasn1 -lz -lp11-kit However, gcc doesn't understand the -R option, so you can't pass the pkg-config output as a set of gcc command line options the way that pkg- config says you are supposed to be able to. In practice, datetime currently has clock-app hardwired for dispatching alarms (dispatch_url('appid://com.ubuntu.clock/clock /current-user-version')) and calendar-app for everything else (dispatch_url('appid://com.ubuntu.calendar/calendar/current-user- version')). There are two use cases that can be supported by datetime handling the URL property http://www.kanzaki.com/docs/ical/url.html: (1) Clicking on an alarm menuitem opens up clock-app to that specific alarm, rather than to clock-app's main page. Clock-app could specify the information it needs in the URL, then open the right page when passed that information later. indicator-datetime would act as a simple pass-through. (2) non-calendar, non-alarm items such as from the reminders app as requested by mzanetti. The pattern would be the same as clock-app: Reminders would add whatever URL it wants, then datetime would act as a simple pass-through. This is preferable to adding more special cases to indicator-datetime. Number of times I've expanded a message and wanted to reply without reading the full message: exactly 0. Number of times I've wanted to quickly read the full message and not reply: probably around 50%. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1478115] Re: using PathExistsGlob in apport-noui.path results in test failures
It's actually a combination of the dependency upon whoopsie and the Path change. If the package depends on whoopsie then tests FAIL if we use PathExistsGlob, if we use PathChanged then test PASS. If the package does not depend on whoopsie then the tests PASS with either Path setting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1478115 Title: using PathExistsGlob in apport-noui.path results in test failures Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I've switched the apport-noui.path systemd file from: PathChanged=/var/crash to PathExistsGlob=/var/crash/*.crash I've done this because with PathChanged it seemed to me that the whoopsie-upload-all, called by apport-noui.service, would be called when any file (e.g. .upload, .uploaded) were created in /var/crash. Naturally, this seemed excessive to me and PathExistsGlob seems like a better fit. Additionally, it is worth noting that the following from the systemd.path documentation: If a path already exists (in case of PathExists= and PathExistsGlob=) or a directory already is not empty (in case of DirectoryNotEmpty=) at the time the path unit is activated, then the configured unit is immediately activated as well. Something similar does not apply to PathChanged= and PathModified=. Given that it appears with PathChanged the apport-noui service would never be run during boot up, again not what we want. However, making these changes seems to have caused some strange test failures with the apport's tests. https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/wily-adt-apport/ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1478115/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1476705] Re: [SOLVED] postscript printer hideously slow in some cases (pdftops)
@James Cloos Thank you for this precision. It makes more sense now. So, if I understand well, pdftocairo would be a bad choice to print (in colors) a document with a jpeg photo or a complex Gimp picture. Am I right? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1478115] Re: using PathExistsGlob in apport-noui.path results in test failures
I've uploaded apport version 2.18-0ubuntu5 which removes the dependency of apport-noui on whoopsie as a stop gap measure. ** Description changed: I've switched the apport-noui.path systemd file from: PathChanged=/var/crash to PathExistsGlob=/var/crash/*.crash I've done this because with PathChanged it seemed to me that the whoopsie-upload-all, called by apport-noui.service, would be called when any file (e.g. .upload, .uploaded) were created in /var/crash. However, making these changes seems to have caused some strange test failures with the apport's tests. https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/wily-adt-apport/ + + runs 47 through 55 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1478115 Title: using PathExistsGlob in apport-noui.path results in test failures Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I've switched the apport-noui.path systemd file from: PathChanged=/var/crash to PathExistsGlob=/var/crash/*.crash I've done this because with PathChanged it seemed to me that the whoopsie-upload-all, called by apport-noui.service, would be called when any file (e.g. .upload, .uploaded) were created in /var/crash. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1478025] [NEW] Speaker icons differences too small
Public bug reported: The icon theme got a nice update that made them all much lighter (as in weight), but also resulted in some of them being less readable, especially in a bright environment (aka. very often when you use a phone outside). See the attached image that's a combination of high volume, low volume and muted. The stroke through the muted speaker is very light, almost a one-pixel stroke on the Aquaris E4.5 phone, where the icons are displayed at 26x26 pixels. The volume indication (the two arches on the right of the speaker) seems unnecessary when muted, too, and just add confusion. In the low-volume case the arches seem equally unnecessary, since apart from spotting the arches you need to compare their colour to see how much of the indication is active vs. not. This is not of much use being able to reply to a message I haven't read; if it's a case of saving space, it would be more practical to display the full message and no reply box. Number of times I've expanded a message and wanted to reply without reading the full message: exactly 0. Number of times I've wanted to quickly read the full message and not reply: probably around 50%. Given that the message can be contracted again with another tap, I see little reason not to display the full message when expanding, it seemed to work well before. [Touch-packages] [Bug 674138] Re: Global appmenu breaks sloppy focus
There's a remaining issue with FFM: random windows get focus when closing windows or switching workspaces. Focus should only be changed intentionally, i.e. by moving into a window or clicking in a window. When closing (hiding/minimizing/sending to other workspace) a window, focus should return to the window that had focus before the now-gone window. When switching to another workspace, focus should remain with the window that had focus on that workspace. Relevant bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/focus-follows- mouse/+bug/958432/comments/2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674138 Title: Global appmenu breaks sloppy focus Status in Unity: Won't Fix Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: An option I heavily use in GNOME 2.x is so called sloppy focus or focus follows mouse (ffm). This feature allows me to have multiple windows overlapping and easily switch between them by 'nudging' the mouse over the window I wish to type in. I do not bring the window to the front. Example scenarios * Whilst watching a TV programme in a large window, I wish to microblog about the TV programme to my followers without distracting myself from the programme. I can hover the mouse over twitter client dialog box without it obscuring the video window. * I am working on a document and need input from a co-worker so I get them on IM. As they explain in the IM window I can be typing in the document window. When I need to acknowledge receipt of the IM I can easily switch to the IM window without losing sight of my document. As I understand it, with global appmenu enabled the menu for a window is placed at the top of the screen and changes as the window focus changes. If I am using focus follows mouse and wish to select a menu item for Window A, then as the mouse moves over Window B en-route to the menu, the menu content will change, making it challenging to select menu options for WIndow A. Under certain circumstances it may be possible to take a circuitous route to get the mouse to the appmenu so the menu content doesn't change, but this is suboptimal. I would like to file a bug to petition for the inclusion of a system whereby:- * Focus follows mouse feature is included in Unity * A system which caters for users of focus follows mouse, and suppresses the sub-optimal behaviour. My personal suggestion is as follows:- * By default Unity be setup with ffm disabled, to use the traditional behaviour as default in current GNOME 2 * An option made available to enable ffm * An option made available to configure a key which can suppress the menu change * Behaviour adopted in Unity whereby when the modifier key is pressed, the user can throw the mouse to the menu and know that the menu will be frozen (i.e. focus changes will be ignored) until the modifier key is released. Whilst I appreciate that the vast majority of users do not use sloppy focus, or indeed many don't even know it exists, for those of us that do, it's an integral way in which the desktop is used. The stroke through the muted speaker is very light, almost a one-pixel stroke on the Aquaris E4.5 phone, where the icons are displayed at 26x26 pixels. The volume indication (the two arches on the right of the speaker) seems unnecessary when muted, too, and just add confusion. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1471695] Re: To dark, invisible icons
** Package changed: indicator-display (Ubuntu) = unity8 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1471695 Title: To dark, invisible icons Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: What I already wrote on the ubuntu-phone mailing list and what many people found also as a problem is the visibility of the icons in the panel. I suggest to add to snooze dropdown menu in the option the voice No snooze or something like this Documentation: https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/presentation/d/1JvDyhsW17d1-Mz8OY1YMBKwfRI2z9qgyRjbujEsxEMk/edit#slide=id.g34303b1ce_2_11 https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JvDyhsW17d1-Mz8OY1YMBKwfRI2z9qgyRjbujEsxEMk/edit#slide=id.g36c1a0cdd_010 https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xDSZ_dnAMAlhgFnnyjJEibaITXjVLp1_pnj_tATNm9I/edit https://developer.gnome.org/notification-spec/ [UX Comment] As it seems unlikely that we will be able to implement snooze on/off snooze duration for individual alarms, but do have an application-wide setting that allows snooze duration to be set (but not disabled), I'd recommend the options relating to snooze in application settings be changed to the following: - No snooze - 5 minutes - 10 minutes - 15 minutes This way the list is still short (four options, as it is currently) but the options provided are likely to be more useful (current 2 minute snooze doesn't seem very useful, nor does the difference between 4 mins and 5 min snooze periods). [UX Comment 2] Additionally, notifications for snoozing alarms should come in two forms: 1. With the options 'OK' (ceases alarm) and 'Snooze' (sets the alarm to the snooze period elected by the user) 2. With the option 'OK' (ceases the alarm) when snooze is not enabled.
