[Touch-packages] [Bug 1458818] Re: Xorg crash while starting Eclipse
[Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1458818 Title: Xorg crash while starting Eclipse Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I had a few terminals and Chrome running. Started Eclipse from the GUI search, it started too load, the screen flicked to black for a moment then came back but was frozen. I have system monitor graphs going on the task bar and these were not updating. I could still move the mouse within the display it was in at the time of the crash but not on to the second display or over to my Windows box via Synergy. After 30s or so the screen flicked to black and back again. Then I was returned to the login prompt. Once I logged back in the applications I had had open were closed. Inspected some logs to see what would come up. In kern.log I spotted: May 26 10:26:44 thorne-ul-dt kernel: [436212.122636] traps: unity-settings-[2567] trap int3 ip:7f84149d1c13 sp:7ffc1b310e70 error:0 May 26 10:26:50 thorne-ul-dt kernel: [436218.561645] compiz[2712]: segfault at 0 ip (null) sp 7fff04c25ed8 error 14 in compiz[40+3000] May 26 10:28:06 thorne-ul-dt kernel: [436294.229229] Qt bearer threa[10079]: segfault at 7fe2bc26ba50 ip 7fe2eb821b84 sp 7fe2715aa520 error 4 in libQt5Network.so.5.2.1[7fe2eb78d000+13c000] So to me this looks like a unity utility, compiz or a bit of Qt might have gone wonky. Is Eclipse written in Qt? I could imagine that being the case and that being a possible explanation for it being mentioned here. In syslog I spotted: May 26 10:26:31 thorne-ul-dt signond[1600]: ../../../../src/signond/signondaemon.cpp 388 init Failed to SUID root. Secure storage will not be available. [Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1423287 Title: Kernel locks up on boot sometimes after upgrade and switch from nvidia to nouveau driver Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: After upgrading my system to Trusty (from precise) I noticed high CPU loads in Xorg and render errors (Image attached). This occurred with all the Nvidia proprietary drivers available through Restricted Drivers. This only happens on this machine with an old AGP GeForce Series 6 card (6600), and not on the newer machines with series 500 and 700 nvidia pci express cards. After switching to Nouveau everything was fine for a while, no more CPU pegging from Xorg or render glitches. Then I bought a new monitor to replace the old CRT. So I switched from the VGA connector to the DVI-D connector (which I had never used before). Every once and a while the machine will fail to boot and hangs on the console. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1480492] Re: aa-status in apparmor-2.10 depends on python3-apparmor
The attachment aa-status-dont_require_python3-apparmor.patch seems to be a patch. If it isn't, please remove the patch flag from the attachment, remove the patch tag, and if you are a member of the ~ubuntu-reviewers, unsubscribe the team. [This is an automated message performed by a Launchpad user owned by ~brian-murray, for any issues please contact him.] ** Tags added: patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apparmor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1480492 Title: aa-status in apparmor-2.10 depends on python3-apparmor Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The apparmor 2.10-0ubuntu1 package did not migrate from wily-proposed due to the content-hub autopkgtests failing. This turned out to be due to the dh_apparmor postinst snippet failing to load the content-hub test apparmor profiles because aa-status failed to run due to python3-apparmor not being installed. The dependency was added in the apparmor 2.10 cycle due to wanting to get fancier tracebacks that contain more diagnostic information when errors occur. In a minimal ubuntu environment, python-utils and python3-apparmor are not installed by default (which is also why aa-status is included in the main apparmor package). There are a couple of possible short term solutions to this: 1) make the apparmor package depend on python3-apparmor 2) make aa-status function even when python3-apparmor isn't installed, either by reverting the added import entirely, or catching the exception and continuing even when it fails. Long term, aa-status could be re-written (again), this time in C to help minimal environments become even more minimal by getting rid of the dependency on python. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1445239] Re: apt's lists/partial fills disk
I had been observing a disk full a few times due to this issue, including this morning, after which I found this report. I just installed apt 1.0.9.7ubuntu4.1 from vivid-proposed using apt-get install apt/vivid-proposed. I now have: $ apt-cache policy apt apt: Installed: 1.0.9.7ubuntu4.1 Candidate: 1.0.9.7ubuntu4.1 Version table: *** 1.0.9.7ubuntu4.1 0 400 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid-proposed/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.0.9.7ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages I ran apt-get update manually several times and did not see the disk- filling-up problem again. I will continue to keep my eye on it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1445239 Title: apt's lists/partial fills disk Status in APT: New Status in apt package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in apt source package in Vivid: Fix Committed Bug description: Test case: - there is a artificial test in test/integration now - as this is server side dependent a regression test should be enough Since I upgraded to vivid, apt fills the disk space at /var/lib/apt/lists/partial. This was triggered by the automatic update every day, and as a solution I killed the processes named `http` spawned by apt, and removed the offending file from lists/partial manually. Until now, `apt-get update` and `apt-get upgrade` had been working. However, today, when I tried `apt-get update`, it got stuck in some file, continuously increasing its size when at 100%. I tried inspecting the file to see if there is a repetition of data, and there seems to be, as I have suspected. First of all, the file is it.archive.ubuntu .com_ubuntu_dists_vivid_main_binary-i386_Packages.bz2 this time, but I'm not sure if the previous time it was also this file. I used `tail` and `hexdump` to figure out whether a certain pattern shows up in the file. Here are some examples: $ tail -c 20 it.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_vivid_main_binary-i386_Packages.bz2 | hexdump | grep '\bbdf\' c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a 0010c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a 0020c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a 0030c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a $ tail -c 20 it.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_vivid_main_binary-i386_Packages.bz2 | hexdump | grep '\9b95\' c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a 0010c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a 0020c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a 0030c80 8d9e 63ad bbdf 40a7 3f3e 2b4a 9b95 aa5a $ tail -c 20 it.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_vivid_main_binary-i386_Packages.bz2 | hexdump | grep '\1234\' 0002630 fd50 b08d 7082 1234 85b3 a61e 2921 e0cd 0012630 fd50 b08d 7082 1234 85b3 a61e 2921 e0cd 0022630 fd50 b08d 7082 1234 85b3 a61e 2921 e0cd $ tail -c 20 it.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_vivid_main_binary-i386_Packages.bz2 | hexdump | grep '\76a8\' 000fa90 747d 76a8 078a 67b6 60d9 83f5 5ff3 787c 001fa90 747d 76a8 078a 67b6 60d9 83f5 5ff3 787c 002fa90 747d 76a8 078a 67b6 60d9 83f5 5ff3 787c As you can see, it seems that after the error, a certain pattern seems to repeat every exactly 0x1 bytes. jmitchel, That's actually very weird, because ping *does* cache (and incorrectly: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iputils/+bug/1405232). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to iputils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/737959 Title: ping waits 5 seconds between packets if RDNS is not present Status in iputils package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: If you use ping from the command line and the host you are pinging does not have a rDNS entry, then ping pauses for 5 seconds or more between packets. If one changes this variable only in /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils to, say, performance, at first the cpu governor will be set to performance, but then, after the sleep 60 which is set in /etc/init.d/ondemand, /etc/init.d/ondemand will set it back to ondemand. I think both scripts should instead read a global variable from a global config file (eg. /etc/default/cpufreq_governor). Possible problems down the road, because /etc/init.d/ondemand has no /etc/default/ondemand, so either editing or deleting /etc/init.d/ondemand. I just discovered that updating initscripts will fail if /etc/init.d/ondemand has been deleted (dpkg complains about this file missing and aborts) Suggested fixes: a) Remove /etc/init.d/ondemand, make the ondemand governor the default for /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils, install package cpufrequtils by default. b) If this is not desired, make absolutely sure that /etc/init.d/ondemand is executed *before* /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils, maybe by making /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils depend on /etc/init.d/ondemand. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1480272] Re: StageFright is still present in the container
Looking at the following page [1] you can see that the patched code is in MPEG4Extractor. For Ubuntu, we don't use this file for anything. We currently only use the opposite code, MPEG4Writer, for when we're recording a video using the camera-app. For playback, GStreamer does indeed do all of the container format parsing for every file type and then passes the extracted video stream chunk by chunk to the MediaCodec class over hybris [2]. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1425172] Re: Network indicator lists the non-exist AP (timeout for the AP to be removed is too big, ~6min)
I suspect there my be deeper issues with scanning. Bug #1445134 reports that NM 0.9.10.0 is not periodically scanning. I'm seeing the same thing on krillin and mako running the latest stable ( OTA5 ) images: If I start wpa_cli ( as root ) on a system running utopic ( NM 0.9.8.x ), I see periodic scan events reported: 3CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-STARTED 3CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS I also can see the updated scan results using the wpa_cli 'scan_results' command. If I perform the same test on krillin or mako ( NM 0.9.10.0 ), I don't see any periodic scan happening. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425172 Title: Network indicator lists the non-exist AP (timeout for the AP to be removed is too big, ~6min) Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in indicator-network package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ubuntu-system-settings package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM: Invalid Bug description: Summary: Network indicator lists the non-exist AP Steps to reproduce: 1. This is reproducible on mako/krillin on both RTM and vivid. The main issue is that the timeout for the AP to be removed from the known AP list is too big when comparing with other phones. I made a cache for the root file system, rebuilt the initrd and rebooted the VM. At boot time, the system failed to activate the root LV. After some investigation, I found out, it's because the initrd is missing some essential stuff needed for activating a cached LV. The initrd was missing the dm-cache module. I regenerated the initrd with explicitly listing dm-cache in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules, but the system still can't boot up, because now it is missing the /usr/sbin/cache_check utility. As SSDs are becoming more and more common, I think it will be common to use them as cache for root file systems, thus it is mandatory to make sure that an initrd can mount an lvmcached root device when necessary, preferably without /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and other manual initrd hacking. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1476790] Re: SIGSEGV in elf.c
After reading through the strings / libbfd crasher thread (part of which can be found here: http://openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2014/10/23/4), a CVE was not assigned to this issue. I don't see how it could be anything more than a simple crasher and I don't believe it to be a real security concern. We will fix this in a future Ubuntu release but won't likely fix it in stable releases unless the impact is determined to be more severe. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to binutils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1476790 Title: SIGSEGV in elf.c Status in binutils package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: -=Binary=- size -=Package=- binutils 2.25-10ubuntu1 -=Title=- Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. -=Input file=- root@exploitdev-wily:~/Desktop/Reported crashes/size# xxd size-SIGSEGV : 7f45 4c46 0101 0130 3030 3030 3030 3030 .ELF...0 0010: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0020: 4000 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 @.....00 0030: 0400 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0040: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0050: 3030 3030 0700 3030 3030 3030 3030 0060: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3000 3030 3030 0... 0070: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0080: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0090: 3000 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0... 00a0: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 00b0: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3000 3030 3030 0... 00c0: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 00d0: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 00e0: 3000 1100 3030 3030 3030 3030 0... 00f0: 0002 3019 3030 3030 0... 0100: 3030 3030 0400 3030 3030 3030 3030 0110: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0120: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0130: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0140: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 0150: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 1b00: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3130 3030 3030 3030 1000 1b10: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 1b20: 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 3030 efbe adde -=happens here=- bfd_section_from_shdr (abfd=0x811a9f0, shindex=4) at elf.c:2030 2030 (s = idx-shdr-bfd_section) != NULL -=stacktrace=- (gdb) backtrace #0 bfd_section_from_shdr (abfd=0x811a9f0, shindex=4) at elf.c:2030 #1 0x08070b39 in bfd_elf32_object_p (abfd=0x811a9f0) at elfcode.h:800 #2 0x08055742 in bfd_check_format_matches (abfd=0x811a9f0, format=bfd_object, matching=0xb338) at format.c:305 #3 0x0804a8f0 in display_bfd (abfd=abfd@entry=0x811a9f0) at size.c:302 #4 0x0804aaaf in display_file (filename=0xb5d2 size-SIGSEGV) at size.c:398 #5 0x08049fd4 in main (argc=2, argv=0xb434) at size.c:239 -=registers=- (gdb) i r eax0x64b 1611 ecx0x811d5a8 135386536 edx0xdeadbeef -559038737= CONTROL OVER EDX .. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1480387] [NEW] Clicking a date to go back or forward a month causes repeated jumps between two dates
Public bug reported: I asked in #ubuntu-desktop and people couldn't reproduce this in vivid or trusty. It happened for me in the most recent wily iso. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1389761] Re: Don't show the volume overlay when changing the volume with the slider
I thought I was so clever in thinking of this idea, then I researched and discovered that it's what iOS already does. https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/MediaPlayer/Reference/MPVolumeView_Class/index.html The sound indicator does suppress the notification when it is shown On the PC it does, but not on the phone. And if it's not obvious enough even for Canonical engineers to do it, that bodes ill for app developers. With this scheme, they get the notification-suppressing behavior for free whenever they choose the easy way of embedding a volume control. what if a notification goes off while the app is open ? you will suddenly adjust the notification volume. Yes, that's a drawback. But then, a notification probably should temporarily quieten media playback, so changing the media volume wouldn't be that meaningful during those few seconds anyway. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-sound in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389761 Title: Don't show the volume overlay when changing the volume with the slider Status in indicator-sound package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in ubuntu-system-settings package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The overlay and the slider are redundant when the user changes the volume with the slider and the overlay shouldn't be displayed. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1479001] Re: OTA update: lower user click not updated by custom tarball higher click
I'd rather strongly recommend against changing the fundamental database design; I think that if you take that road then you will find yourself playing whack-a-mole with conflicting requirements. Instead, my suggestion would be to arrange for click hook run-system-hooks to garbage-collect user registrations in the overlay database that have been superseded by versions in a lower database; that way it's still possible for somebody to temporarily revert a package for testing, but an OTA update would pull them back to the latest version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to click in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1479001 Title: OTA update: lower user click not updated by custom tarball higher click Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in click package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: A user in the field has OTA5 installed. A few questions that the design leaves: * How do we know that Dekko should be the default instead of GMail? How do we handle apps that don't have a default bias? Case 3: If the user has Dekko and Gmail installed, the 'mail to' link by default should open in the Dekko client. However, the user can change their mail client preferences in system settings. Case 4: If the user has Gmail and another mail client installed, the 'mail to' link should default to the first client that was installed on their device (which would be the default mail client preference in system settings - this can be changed by the user via system settings). Notes: 1. Wherever the user has not actively changed a mail client preference and Dekko is installed on their device, the default 'mail to' client should be Dekko. 2. When clicking on a 'mail to' link, the user's expectation is to have this link open in a relevant client (unless it is case 1), therefore this should be the case and any mail preference choices the user can perform via system settings rather than being presented with multiple choice options of which client to open the URL in. I'm seeing this issue several times a day too. I'm not sure if images alone are the problem. I get varied results depending how I use the tab I'm in but it seems that the more pages I navigate to with the same tab, the closer I get encountering the issue. For example, go to www.newstalk.com and scroll to the bottom of the page. Everything is fine until you scroll back to the top and the get the dreaded white page. m.independent.ie is another example. After browsing a few articles it has just happened to me. But in a new tab, I'm using it for five minutes now and it's fine. Note that the URL bar is not accessible when the page turns white. I have the same problem. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1473562] Re: Too many crash files kill the device
** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apport in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1473562 Title: Too many crash files kill the device Status in Canonical System Image: Fix Committed Status in apport package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in apport source package in Vivid: Fix Committed Bug description: Tested on krillin. TEST CASE: 1. adb shell to the phone and create a crash file $ sh -c 'kill -SEGV $$' 2. Now create dozens $ for n in $(seq 50); do ln /var/crash/_bin_dash.32011.crash /var/crash/_bin_dash_${n}.32011.crash; done 3. Remove any upload and uploaded files that have been created and reboot $ sudo rm /var/crash/*upload* sudo reboot ACTUAL RESULT Lot of whoopsie-upload-all and apport processes are created on boot, consume all the resources of the system and make the phone unbootable or partially functional. OOM killer kills random system tasks such as upstart. Depending on the processes killed, the phone hangs on boot, reboots, dash doesn't come up... The number of crashes in this test is a bit excessive but we can imagine a scenario where a dozen of crash files are not uploaded because the phone is on cellular data, and uploads everything when it connects to wifi, disabling the user session. A way to recover is to go into recovery and clean /var/crash. EXPECTED RESULT crash uploads are serialized and can be uploaded only one at a time If system resources are already low, the crash file is not uploaded.
