[Touch-packages] [Bug 518056]

2015-09-25 Thread James H. Cloos Jr.

Status in xlibs:
  Fix Released
Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:

Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu:

Status in libx11 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:

  When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or
UK-international),
  typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

  There is a workaround, which is editing the

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

  file and changing the line

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa"

  to

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en"

  (add the 'en' at the end).

  However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the
change,
  and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again,
  logout and login.

  For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always
something
  that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu,
because
  they don't know what to do each time this happens.

  I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that
would
  be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the
dead-key
  options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as
US-deadkey-cedilla.

  This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French.

  the stuff i have downloaded via the other app, the content is missing.

  How to reproduce launch the webbrowser app
  download any image > content hub appears
  select gallery app > notification appears
  Dismiss the download

  Open telegram app
  start a chat
  Click on the attachement icon and select photo > content-hub appears
  Select gallery app > application is launched.

  What i should expect is the downloaded image above can be selected but
  it is not.

  I need to start the gallery app not via the content-hub to see the new
  image downloaded added

  When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or
UK-international),
  typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

  There is a workaround, which is editing the

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

  file and changing the line

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"

  to

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"

  (add the 'en' at the end).

  However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the

  Seeing this with the latest trunk (corresponding to version
  0.23+15.04.20150506-0ubuntu1) running on an up-to-date vivid desktop +
  oxide 1.7.7.

  Steps to reproduce:
   1) launch the browser, browse to a page that has more content than fits in
the viewport
   2) verify that you can scroll up/down the page by dragging the scrollbar
handle
   3) open the drawer menu, click "new tab", verify you get the new tab view
with a list of bookmarks and top sites
   4) open any of the bookmarks or top sites
   5) now try dragging the scrollbar handle up/down like in step 2

  Expected result: the page scrolls as the handle is dragged.
  Actual result: the handle won’t move. Scrolling in the page with the
mousewheel still works though.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499775] [NEW] [desktop] It's difficult to see where a link will send you before clicking on it

2015-09-25 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

In desktop mode, hovering over a link does not show the link URL
anywhere, like it usually does on a desktop browser. You can right
click on it and get an elipsed version of the URL though. But there's
no way to see the whole URL.

It's not common to allow this on a mobile browser. So maybe it's not a
critical feature or maybe you don't want to diverge in this respect
between desktop and mobile views. But it would be useful.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499780] [NEW] Open new tabs next to the tab that launched them

2015-09-25 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

When clicking on a target="_blank" link or Ctrl-clicking on a link, a
new tab opens. But it always opens at the end of the list of current
tabs.

Ideally it would open next to the tab that launched it. Other browsers
do this, and it helps to keep related content near each other. And
makes it faster to switch to the new tab if you want to (one press of
Ctrl+Tab instead of many).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1493427] Re: [dialer app] + [window management] movement on screen in window mode

2015-09-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Per spec, Mir will require that every window have a minimum amount of
width+height on-screen. Currently there's no allowance for apps to keep
a window *entirely* on-screen, and nor is there any larger minimum
width+height when relaunching an app.

But even if there was, that wouldn't solve this problem at all. While a
call is in progress, another window might open in front of it; you might
minimize it; or you might move it to another workspace, and then switch
back to the previous workspace. So there are several ways that the call
window could be invisible while the call is in progress.

You could reduce this by setting the call window as a floating regular
window, so that it floats on top of most other windows. (But that would
be impractical if the app ever allowed screen sharing.) Or you could
just rely on the Launcher, switcher, or call banner to return to the
app.

  so the dialer app is currently treated like any other window in terms of
movement, you can move the dialer app to the point where the dialer application
window is not seen "hanging of the screen" so only the title bar of the
application is visible.
  Also, if the device reboots, this will be the remembered location of the
window.

  Concern was that the user might move offscreen and struggle to find it
  quickly for "ending call" or entering numbers at a prompt or changing
  from loudspeaker to earpiece or wanting to hit mute.

  It was discussed whether or not the dialer application should become a
"special" application/surface to disallow having any portion of the window
being moved offscreen ? Or is this completely ok - e.g. the user wanted to do
it and should be allowed to.
  Or should the green banner of the dialer app in the shell be used to bring
the dialer app back on screen ?

Bug description:

  When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or

  typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

  There is a workaround, which is editing the

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

  file and changing the line

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa"

  to

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en"

  (add the 'en' at the end).

  However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the
change,
  and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again,
  logout and login.

  For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always
something
  that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu,
because
  they don't know what to do each time this happens.

  I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that
would
  be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the
dead-key
  options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as
US-deadkey-cedilla.

  This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1493427] Re: dialer app movement on screen in window mode

2015-09-25 Thread Olga Kemmet
@kevin:
I had a chat with Matthew who is working on the MIR spec. One of the
suggestions I had was to reposition the windows after a reboot. The ideal case
would be to show the full window to the user, positioned as close as possible
to its previous "off-screen" position. Many people, myself included, close and
re-open apps because a window was moved too far out of view. In most cases this
window is displayed fully on screen, close to the previous position.

That might solve part of the problem, at least after a reboot of the
device. The indicator issue is part of an other bug, as mentioned above.

the messenger application will be opened and shows me all messages but not the
one from indicator that I already had deleted.
  As I wrote at the start, I had my Inbox opened when the two messages came and
I deleted them both without openning. Seems like we've got some Matrix
situation where two phone application get an information about the new message
but the apps doesn't communicate with each other to inform the indicator, that
the indicated message had already been deleted.
  Not a big problem but looks pretty primitive in comparison to other devices
on the market. There is one more indicator: the LED of the phone that blinks as

  Since a recent update to the ListItem leading actions in

  width is too small to press comfortably on a phone resulting in it
  missing 9 out of 10 tries. It affects the usability of the action and
  may be become a release blocker for apps that have recently switched
  over to the new list items.

  Sample App

  import QtQuick 2.4
  import Ubuntu.Components 1.2

  MainView {
  applicationName: "testdelete.nik90"
  width: units.gu(100)
  height: units.gu(75)

  ListItem {

  leadingActions: ListItemActions {
  actions: [
  Action {
  iconName: "delete"
  onTriggered: listItem.destroy()
  }
  ]
  }
  }
  }
  }

  With trailing actions, tapping the trailingActions first causes the
  ListItem to jump/scroll all the way to the left instead of actually
  activating the action. Only a second tap actually activates them.

  ---

  Visual design: desired outcome:

  Please expand the width of the leading and trailing actions to 6gu
  (they're currently 5gu). The 2gu icon will be centred in this.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499764] [NEW] Gmail complains about the version of safari

2015-09-25 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

When logged into gmail on the desktop in webbrowser-app, I see a yellow
banner at the top that says:

"This version of Safari is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a
supported browser."

with a dismiss button.

I don't know if we are actually using an older version of the webkit
engine or if we are just reporting that we are. My current (default)
useragent is:

"Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Ubuntu 14.04) AppleWebKit/537.36
Chromium/35.0.1870.2 Safari/537.36"

I'm using wily's 0.23+15.10.20150922-0ubuntu1 version.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1387207] Re: [greeter] strange persistent "Enter SIM1 PIN" dialog on Greeter

2015-09-25 Thread Pete Woods
I semi-recently made some improvements to the notifications server in
unity8 to kill off the notifications of any process that dies. So The
SIM unlock code in the indicator has also had much improvement.

So I think this is *likely* :) to not occur again.

Bug description:
  Build r133 Krillin

  I'm not entirely sure how to reproduce this bug but I try to sum up
  the conditions and how the phone was set up before.

  1. Make sure both SIM cards are inserted
  2. SIM1 is locked
  3. reboot device
  4 skip SIM PIN entry

  When skipping the SIM PIN entry screen, you can see a small glitch on
  the top of the screen. It looks like a dialog/snap but it disappears
  very quickly.

  Now, I had my device locked for a while and when I unlocked it via the hard
key button a snap decision appeared on top of the greeter saying "Enter SIM
PIN1". It is possible to swipe away the greeter screen but then this is it. You
are basically stuck.
  I managed as well to pull down the notifications menu but the snap stayed on
top of that.
  It looks like there is there passcode screen in the background and if you
want to return back to the greeter you have to lock/unlock the device with the
hard key button.

  Maybe anyone can reproduce this bug or knows what causes it. Please
  see attached screenshots for more visual info.

  Update:
  14.04 r269 krillin

  The glitch of briefly appearing dialog still persists. Every time the
  device is rebooted and user has to enter the SIM PIN.

  UX comment-

  The desired resolution is that users are presented with the actual SIM
  PIN screen without the appearing glitch.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1493427] Re: [dialer app] + [window management] movement on screen in window mode

2015-09-25 Thread kevin gunn
the dialer app is special in this case - i can't think of any other app that
has a special visual shell effect like the "green call banner"
What if the "green call banner" were always to activate in the instance the
phone window has any pixels offscreen or occluded by another window? clicking
or touching on the green banner in windowed mode could result in a consistent
placement of the dialer app window (e.g. upper left corner or lower right
corner)

does this seem like a reasonable approach?

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  somewhat related to bug 1488852

  so the dialer app is currently treated like any other window in terms of
movement, you can move the dialer app to the point where the dialer application
window is not seen "hanging of the screen" so only the title bar of the
application is visible.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1487034] Re: steam glxChooseVisual failed

2015-09-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
david, as per
http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX%20Extreme9/?cat=Download=BIOS an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.70).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1158183] Re: Pressing alt + tab quickly, but alt-tab window appears

2015-09-25 Thread Treviño
Well, basically right now there are about 80ms to show the window, so it
really depends in how fast you are.

In generally showing the view quickly is good (as if you want it to be
presented is not nice to have a longer timeout), while it's not possible
to predict what kind of switching the user will be, and thus showing it
for a few ms before closing it again, IMHO is better than waiting longer
to see it when you want that.

Maybe we might make those timeouts tunable from settings, though.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1391839] Re: [sdk] Cannot change boundsBehaviour on Flickable in Expandable

2015-09-25 Thread Femma
** Description changed:

  Right now it's quite unfortunate that some Expandables can be dragged
  and overshot (Flickable.DragAndOvershootBounds).

  Could the Expandable expose the boundsBehaviour property or in some
  other way make this changeable?

  UX Solution:
  We should have a good default, then allow developers to change the property.

  For example, an app developer might not want to have overshoot at all
  and provide a different hint that the list/area boundaries have been
  reached.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1495314] Re: Crash when opening second site via new tab overview (favourites, popular sites, links from other apps)

happens? Are there some crash files under /var/crash/ ?

  BQ 4.5 with newest updates (without apt-get "hack"). Problem is since
  some months. Latest time in channel rc-proposed but now since weeks
  in stable, too! I saved my "old" home and browser profile. But I don't
  want to delete my favourites. Maybe the problem is deeper in
  programming. I have some dozen of links saved.

  Dell rebrands modems from different vendors, including Novatel, Sierra
  and Ericsson. Until now we defaulted to the Novatel plugin when a Dell
  device was found, but then we're breaking newer MBIM Sierra Dell-
  branded modems, as we don't have MBIM support in the Novatel plugin.

  So, we should try to improve the probing in the Novatel, Sierra and
  MBM plugins, so that they probe also Dell devices, and we'll then try
  to match via AT-probing which plugin should be handling the Dell
  device.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499889] Re: gstreamer-codec-install: error: no such option: --interaction

2015-09-25 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
Adding sessioninstaller, as it provides gst-install as the default
gstreamer-codec-install alternative.
It does not support the --interaction option and therefore conflict with the
current gst-plugins-base in Wily.
I don't know which one of them should be fixed, so I guess my investigation
stop here for now.

  Attempting to play a mp3 file with Totem on the latest Wily daily

  Falling back to package information
  Usage: gstreamer-codec-install [options]

  gstreamer-codec-install: error: no such option: --interaction

  The wizard to install the missing codec actually fails to launch.

  The very same happen when attempting to play a video. Strangely
  enough, when the audio codec is supported but the video one is not,
  Totem starts to play the audio and just display a black rectangle
  instead of the actual video stream.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499872] [NEW] Right swipe showing running apps, some apps are grayed out

2015-09-25 Thread Dave H
Public bug reported:

I am using the Meizu MX4 with the latest updates(15.04 r4). Sometimes
when I look at my running apps with a right swipe, some of the running
apps are greyed out (transparent). If I then select the app it opens are
a few seconds. On checking the running apps again I can now see the
running app as normal. Please see picture attached.

Thanks for your hard work,

  authenticating (for MAPI). However, at the conclusion of account

  I've tried starting Evolution from the command line using various
  DEBUG_ variables and there are no EWS- or MAPI-specific errors. So I'm
  not exactly sure what to do next.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499889] [NEW] gstreamer-codec-install: error: no such option: --interaction

2015-09-25 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
Public bug reported:

Attempting to play a mp3 file with Totem on the latest Wily daily build
(from the USB stick).

Totem opens but no playback start.
On the terminal I got this:

** Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|1.0|totem|MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3)
decoder|decoder-audio/mpeg, mpegversion=(int)1, mpegaudioversion=(int)1,
layer=(int)3, parsed=(boolean)true (MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder)
Falling back to package information
Usage: gstreamer-codec-install [options]

gstreamer-codec-install: error: no such option: --interaction

The wizard to install the missing codec actually fails to launch.

The very same happen when attempting to play a video. Strangely enough,
when the audio codec is supported but the video one is not, Totem starts
to play the audio and just display a black rectangle instead of the
actual video stream.

Cool.

Now, Wily isn't released yet, and 15.04 won't reach its end of life
until january, so the fix should be backported to 15.04

Title:
  [REGRESSION] navigating to submenus has become painfully difficult.
  Clicking doesn't help; requires extreme precision

Status in Unity:
  Invalid
Status in gtk package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  case A:
  I want to access an item of a submenu of a menu of an application. That is,
menu Foo->bar->something

  Case B:
  by right-clicking on something, I want to access an item of a submenu of the
context menu, for example in Nautilus: right-click on a file -> open with ->
someApplication

  So, I unfold the first level menu (of an application) or the context
  menu (by right-clicking), I move the mouse cursor onto the menu item
  so that the final submenu unfolds, and I CLICK on the submenu parent
  item (e.g. I click on "open with" from the context menu).

  EXPECTED (and how it used to work):
  By clicking on the item that unfolds the submenu (e.g. "open with"), as
opposed to simply hovering over it, the submenu should remain open, even if you
accidentally move the cursor out of the submenu's parent item before you reach
the area in the desired submenu.

  OBSERVED (since recently):
  Clicking as you navigate through the hierarchy doesn't change the behavior.
Whether you click or not, in order to reach the final submenu and the desired
item within it, you have to carefully move the cursor in an almost perfectly
horizontal direction to the right, without going the slightest bit out the area
of the submenu's parent item. Otherwise, the submenu will disappear before you
reach it.

  For example, if the final item in the submenu you want to reach is the
  third, it is very likely that, after hovering (and clicking) on the
  menu item that opens the final submenu, you will move in diagonal
  downwards-rightwards, and in this trajectory you'll exit the area of
  the menu item that unfolded the submenu, making the submenu disappear
  before you reach it.

  Usually, this happened only if you only moved the mouse through the
  menu items and submenus without clicking. But when you clicked on an
  item that would unfold a submenu, that submenu would remain more
  "sticky", allowing for more freedom of movement, and remaining open
  even if moving out of it (until you clicked somewhere else, and
  perhaps also when you moved far enough from it).

  So, if you were super-precise and/or slow enough in your movements, you could
reach the desired item in the sub-sub-menu by simply moving the mouse without
clicking, but if you wanted to reach it quickly and carelessly, you could just
click on each item of the hierarchy you were traversing.
  Which is what I used to do, because I like to navigate through menus quicky
and without having to train myself to move my hand with surgical precision.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1486174] Re: No fonts after wake up from sleep

2015-09-25 Thread Ingo Fr
Sorry for the late reply, I just added the apport data. Downgrading
libfreetype6 as suggested by Arnaud doesn't work for me. The problem persists
although
apt-cache show libfreetype6 shows package version 2.5.2-2ubuntu3 (rather than
the most recent version 2.5.2-2ubuntu3.1).
Best, Ingo

  No fonts after wake up from sleep

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When waking up from sleep (either called through pm-hibernate or
  occasionally also pm-suspend), there are not fonts at all anymore.
  This won't happen every time but more like every third or fourth time.
  Yet, it practically means that sleep can not be used. I don't quite
  know how to narrow this down any further.

  I'm using xubuntu 15.04 and pm-utils 1.4.1.-15. I don't start the xfce
  desktop but run a plain x-session with i3 as window manager. The
  attached screen shot shows i3 with an open terminal that would contain
  quite a bit of text if rendered correctly.

2015-09-25 Thread Kyle Nitzsche
Can the webapp be adjusted to NOT claim urls like this so that the
browser will open them? The current behavior of the webapp grabbing the
profile url and then not being able to display it is not ideal for the
twitter scope that's just about ready.

Switched to gst-plugins-base, as the unknown parameter is set there:

gst-libs/gst/pbutils/install-plugins.c:g_ptr_array_add (arr,

really be supported.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1441095]

2015-09-25 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Comment on attachment 118426
Increase the retry interval to 5 seconds.

This breaks the timeout value given by the user. In open_message_ready()
we'll do a ctx->timeout--; if we got a timeout error, so that we can
retry. Instead of ctx->timeout--; there should be a ctx->timeout-=5
there, and along with that: make timeout a gint (not guint) and also
don't do the (ctx->timeout) check, and instead do (ctx->timeout > 0)

Also, better #define RETRY_TIMEOUT_SECS 5 and use the symbol everywhere.

Could you update the patch and retest?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1496434] Re: network-manager crash on boot on krillin/devel-proposed

2015-09-25 Thread Tony Espy
The code in question is this:

/* Try registered device factories */
factory = nm_device_factory_manager_find_factory_for_link_type (plink->type);
if (factory) {
gboolean ignore = FALSE;

device = nm_device_factory_new_link (factory, plink, , );
if (!device) {
if (!ignore) {
nm_log_warn (LOGD_HW, "%s: factory failed to create device: %s",
plink->name, error->message);
 g_clear_error ();
}
return;
}
}

The crash is happening when error->message is accessed in the call to

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in Ubuntu UX:

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Since a recent update to the ListItem leading actions in
  Ubuntu.Components 1.2, where the width of the action was clamped, the
  width is too small to press comfortably on a phone resulting in it
  missing 9 out of 10 tries. It affects the usability of the action and
  may be become a release blocker for apps that have recently switched
  over to the new list items.

  Sample App

  import QtQuick 2.4
  import Ubuntu.Components 1.2

  MainView {
  applicationName: "testdelete.nik90"
  width: units.gu(100)
  height: units.gu(75)

  Page {
  title: "Swipe to Delete"
  ListItem {
  id: listItem
  anchors.top: parent.top

  Label {
  text: "Swipe me right to delete this listitem"
  wrapMode: Text.WordWrap
  anchors { left: parent.left; leftMargin: units.gu(2); right:
parent.right; verticalCenter: parent.verticalCenter }
  }

  leadingActions: ListItemActions {
  actions: [
  Action {
  iconName: "delete"
  onTriggered: listItem.destroy()
  }
  ]
  }
  }
  }
  }

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1396553] Re: No rating and 0 reviews shown for all applications in the dash

2015-09-25 Thread Kiwinote
This has been broken for quite a while - there are two parts to this:

--> UNITY_LENS_APPLICATIONS
Unity-lens-applications reads a Berkeley DB file which is generated by
software-center. The filename contains the version number of libdb. In February
2012 the transition [0] to libdb5.1 was done, in November 2013 there was a
transition [1] to libdb5.3, but the filename was not updated, which means that
since then the source code of unity-lens-applications had had a wrong filename
in line 42 of src/unity-ratings-db.c [2].

[0]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity-lens-applications/trunk/revision/17.1.166
[1]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity-lens-applications/trunk/revision/375
[2]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity-lens-applications/trunk/view/head:/src/unity-ratings-db.c

--> SOFTWARE_CENTER
Upon launching software-center, software-center generates a file for
unity-lens-applications to read. For at least a year, if not multiple years,
software-center crashes whilst trying to generate this db. The crash occurs in
line 336 of [3] with "DBInvalidArgError: (22, 'Invalid argument -- BDB0054
illegal flag combination specified to DB_ENV->open')". Experimentation seems to
show that removing the "|bdb.DB_NOMMAP" stops this crash. The NOMMAP flag was
introduced in [4], but I don't know enough about the Berkeley DB format to know
why the NOMMAP flag should or shouldn't be in use. The internet seems to
describe the flag as "Always copy read-only database files in this environment
into the local cache instead of potentially mapping them into process memory".
I couldn't pull up any other illegal flag combinations using NOMMAP errors
besides software-center.

[3]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntuone-control-tower/software-center/trunk/view/2869/softwarecenter/backend/reviews/__init__.py
[4]
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntuone-control-tower/software-center/trunk/revision/2434

After installing a modified version of unity-lens-applications and
changing software-center and launching software-center I needed to kill
the unity-scope-loader process after which the ratings reappeared in the
dash (obviously only for apps which have ratings, which are not the
newest ones).

Another issue affecting the applications lens is the missing
applications descriptions due to bug #1486061

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499845] [NEW] Expose whether an app has a visible BottomEdge

2015-09-25 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

== The Design ==

The edge tutorial that is shown during the first-boot is getting a
redesign [1].

As part of it, the bottom edge tutorial screen is intended to only
appear after a certain amount of time and only if a user is opening or
switching to an app with a bottom edge to drag up.

When that happens, a page appears covering the whole screen, pointing to
the bottom and saying "Swipe from the bottom edge to manage the app".
Then when the user does swipe up, it fades out as the bottom is swiped.
I've attached a screenshot of an early mockup for this (back when it was
designed for the App scope, not an actual app).

Since it must cover the entire screen (and turn off the launcher and
panel during it), it should probably be rendered by the shell (which is
rendering the rest of the tutorial anyway). So we have to coordinate
between the app and the shell.

There are two main technical difficulties in implementing this, the way
I see it. Detecting if the current page has a valid BottomEdge and
synchronizing the fade-out with the bottom-edge drag.

== Detecting BottomEdge ==

We need:
1) A BottomEdge SDK component
2) That is enabled
3) That is attached to the bottom edge of the app
4) That is currently being rendered (might be in a Page that isn't on top right
now)
5) That isn't obscured by some other widget or MouseArea

#5 is going to be hard to detect in the wild west of apps from the
store. But one thing we could do restrict this to known-well-behaved
apps that are shipped by default anyway. The user is most likely to be
in one of those early on in their phone experience anyway.

Once the SDK can detect this situation, it needs to signal it somehow.
Maybe the "valid-bottom-edge" state can bubble up to qtmir's
ApplicationManager and then the shell. Any ideas on the best way to do
that?

== Synchronizing fade transition ==

I'm thinking there are two ways:

1) Communicate from the app to the shell how far the bottom edge has
been dragged, as it is being dragged. Presumably via the same channel
as we communicate that there is a valid bottom edge in the first place.

2) Fake it and have the shell track the drag itself. It then needs to
mirror the input to the app so that it also receives the drag.

#2 is probably easier. Slightly brittle in case for whatever reason the
app interferes with the drag or does something on its own that would
desynchronize the animation. But again, if we limit this to well-known
apps, we can avoid that.

== Open tasks ==

1) Get general feedback on these ideas
2) Determine how feasible it is for the SDK to detect a valid BottomEdge
3) Determine the best way to signal that state from the SDK up to the shell
4) Implement it

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1489630] Re: Random Software Updates request password for encrypted partition

2015-09-25 Thread Felix Oxley
I pressed enter (i.e. do not enetr password) on the request from irqbalance, I
then get requests from apport, thermald, apport again (setting up),
network-manager (setting up), thermald (setting up).

I do not enter the password for any of these.
As far as I can tell the software updates all processed successfully.

Title:
  Random Software Updates request password for encrypted partition

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have an encrypted partition (luks / cryptsetup) on my drive which
  is mounted manually when required and only contains documents.

  Regularly, when Software Updater is run and updates are installed the
  update process will stall, and if the command line window is expanded
  I can see that one of the updates is requesting that I enter the
  password to mount the encrypted partition.

  THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE PARTITION TO BE REQUIRED

  Today, the application which did this was CUPS (Please see attachment)
however on previous occasions it has been other updates.
  Today, I did not enter the password was request twice by the package but I
did not enter the password, I just pressed enter and the package seems to have
installed successfully.

  I will update this bug in the future with other applications which
  cause this issue.

  Thanks
