Title:
[Hyper-V] hyperv_keyboard module needed for Generation 2 VMs

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in initramfs-tools source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Because Generation 2 virtual machines in Hyper-V are presented with a
minimal set of EFI hardware, the kernel module "hyperv_keyboard" must
be present to interact with the console keyboard. On systems with disk
encryption, the user will be prompted for the key to decrypt the disk,
but cannot enter the password because no keyboard driver is present.

This issue appears to exist in all Ubuntu releases that support EFI
and are therefore eligible to be used as Generation 2 VMs, most
recently tried with the April 5 ISO of the day for 16.04 (pre-
  release).

This module *is* present when the grub menu is presented and later when the
kernel is fully loaded.
FYI, if some mechanism requires a mouse or touch, the hid_hyperv module will
also be needed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1690671] Re: Pointer clicks and hovering fail to have effect at the very left and top borders of screen

2017-08-12 Thread Douglas H. Silva
** Description changed:

  THE ISSUE:
The pointer (happens with mouse, but it's worse with touchpad) fails to click
or highlight any object at the very last pixel of the left and top borders of
the screen. If there is a menu at the top, for instance, the highlighting that
should appear on top of it starts to flicker on and off. If the icon
highlights, I can click. If it doesn't, clicking such menu icon doesn't have
any effect. It happens at the last pixel of the screen. Moving the pointer just
one pixel away from the border restores the desired effect.

This affects any desktop environment made with gtk+3, such as MATE,
- Pantheon, parts of Xfce, Budgie and probably others. GNOME is not
- affected. Any DE still using gtk2 works fine. I tested 3 different
+ Pantheon, parts of Xfce, Budgie and probably others. GNOME and Unity are
+ not affected. Any DE still using gtk2 works fine. I tested 3 different
computers with Intel Graphics and they were all displaying the same
  glitch.

It can always be reproduced. I can record a video of the issue if
  needed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1706936] Re: Wrong version of libgles1-mesa in Xenial-updates

2017-08-12 Thread Dibo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1709823 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1709823

I had same problem few months ago with Linux Mint 18.1 KDE and VLC daily
ppa. Solved it by removing ppa xorg-edgers but few weeks ago it came
back on Mint 18.2 (IIRC not immediately after update to 18.2). Again
related to VLC:

astępujące pakiety zostaną zaktualizowane:
  libgl1-mesa-glx libglapi-mesa libgles2-mesa
3 pakietów aktualizowanych, 0 instalowanych, 0 do usunięcia i 0
nieaktualizowanych.
Do pobrania 165 kB archiwów. Zwolnione po rozpakowaniu: 1024 B.
Następujące pakiety mają niespełnione zależności:
 libgles1-mesa : Wymaga: libglapi-mesa (= 12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) ale
zaplanowana jest instalacja wersji 17.0.7-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.
Następujące działania rozwiążą problemy z zależnościami:

 Usunięcie następujących pakietów:
1) libgles1-mesa
2) vlc

It is always (same as previous time) proposing uninstall VLC and mesa. I'm
pressing "n" so it propose to keep old version and this is how I keep my distro
updated, always keeping old version.
And this is my rdepends output:

apt-cache rdepends libgles1-mesa

Title:
Wrong version of libgles1-mesa in Xenial-updates

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Xenial-updates has the following packages:

  - libgles1-mesa (12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1)
  - libglapi-mesa (17.0.7-0ubuntu0.16.04.1)

The first one depends on libglapi-mesa (= 12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1),
but libglapi-mesa has a higher version and so there's a conflict.

I've had to remove libgles1-mesa for now, to avoid the conflict.

I have Linux Mint 18.1 but I believe it affects anyone using xenial-
  updates.

Source links I used to verify it's a xenial-updates problem:

  https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/libs/libgles1-mesa
  https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/libglapi-mesa

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Applications using GnuTLS OpenSSL compat layer [1] are be unable to
use modern TLS versions (1.1 and 1.2) when relying on the
  SSLv23_{client,server}_method functions.

There is an industry-wide push to use modern TLS versions, see [2] and
  [3] for example.

The proposed fix changes the compat layer to use GnuTLS' "NORMAL"
priority [4] instead of hard-coding which protocol versions and
  ciphers to enable.

  [Test Case]

  1) Setup a mail submission server that uses StartTLS
  2) Setup sSMTP (uses GnuTLS OpenSSL compat layer) to relay
through the mail relay using StartTLS
  3) Send an email while capturing with tcpdump/tshark
  4) Inspect the submission connection (TCP/587) and look for the protocol
 version negotiated by the client.

Without the fix, you should see TLSv1.0. With the fix, it should be
  TLSv1.2.

Please see the original issue description for more details.

  [Regression Potential]

Regression risk should be low since it's a backport of a simple fix
that landed in Debian in April 2017.

  [Original issue description]

sSMTP is limited to using TLSv1.0 and the "old" ciphers that come with
it. Here's a packet capture when ssmtp connects to
smtp.sdeziel.info:587 that offers TLSv1.0 and higher:

  $ tshark -ta -Vr submission.pcap | sed -n '/^Frame 14:/,/^Frame 15:/ p' |
grep -E '^[[:space:]]+(Version|Cipher|Handshake Protocol)'
  Version: TLS 1.0 (0x0301)

  Version: TLS 1.0 (0x0301)

I would expect ssmtp to use TLSv1.2 and a recent cipher like the
openssl s_client is able to do:

  $ echo | openssl s_client -connect

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2017-08-12 Thread Ads20000
Martin, if you want to get this bug fixed please click on the link
Julian gave in #89 and rewrite the bug so it can be fixed in Ubuntu
16.04 and 17.04. It won't be fixed until that happens (and, ideally,
would be good if you could check it's working in 17.10, where it's
already been patched, as well). We know it's a problem but someone needs
to do the work to get it fixed (I don't feel able to sorry).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574120] Re: Notebook doesn't suspend when lid is closed after update to 16.04

2017-08-12 Thread Bill Duetschler
Looks like I misspoke, adding "HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend" didn't
work. I took the laptop offsite after closing the lid and when I
arrived at my destination the laptop was still warm and there had been
significant battery drain, as if it had been running full-blast all
along.

  fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1457054] Re: journal is broken in unprivileged LXC and nspawn containers

Status in systemd source package in Wily:

Bug description:
  Test case
  -
  - Under Ubuntu 15.04 (or 15.10), set up an unprivileged container as in
https://www.stgraber.org/2014/01/17/lxc-1-0-unprivileged-containers/
  - Boot it. You'll get a lot of errors like

[FAILED] Failed to start Journal Service.
systemd-journald-audit.socket failed to listen on sockets: Operation not
permitted
[FAILED] Failed to listen on Journal Audit Socket.

  - The same happens with systemd-nspawn -b.

As a result, the journal isn't working at all, and you have a bunch of
  failed journal related units.

With a fixed systemd package, systemd in the container should realize
that it cannot listen to the audit socket (as the kernel doesn't allow
that -- the audit subsystem isn't fit for namespaces right now), and
"sudo journalctl" should show the journal and systemd-journald.service
should be running. These systemd fixes are sufficient for nspawn, but
not completely for unprivileged LXC containers -- there the journal
will start working, but systemd-journald-audit.socket will still keep
  failing (this is less important)

REGRESSION POTENTIAL: Very low. This only affects the fallback error
code path if binding to the audit socket failed. In that case the
journal is currently not working at all. This usually doesn't happen
on real iron/VMs (they also always CAP_AUDIT_READ), so there is no
  practical change there.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1710382] [NEW] Wireless network frequently drops in 17.10

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

2017-08-12 Thread Jarno Suni
This patch is better, because it takes into account the size of possible
existing initramfs file when calculating the needed available free
space.

** Patch added: "version 2 of patch concerning generate_initramfs function in
update_initramfs"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1678187/+attachment/4931280/+files/update-initramfs.patch

Title:
Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

Status in initramfs-tools:

Status in dpkg package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  System calls /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools when
  purging/removing a linux-image-extra package. That calls "update-
initramfs -c" which needs significant amount of additional disk space
in /boot temporarily. But there is no space left, if /boot is full.

  Likewise /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms may call "update-initramfs -u".

The fix could be to create the new initrg.img file in different partition
before replacing the old one by it in update-initramfs. So the update-initramfs
script should be fixed. But there may not be such a partition..
Anyway the likely case when space runs out is when there is a separate /boot
partition.

Alternatively the init scripts should remove the respective
/boot/initrd.img- file when removing/installing the linux-image-extra
package. That could also be done by
  update-initramfs -d -k
That may be worse way, as then initrd.img file is missing for longer period
of time and system integrity may suffer in case of e.g. power cut.

  Related question: http://askubuntu.com/q/898499/21005
The output of 'dpkg --purge' presented there shows that corresponding
linux-image package may get successfully removed while the linux-image-extra is
left broken. If the linux-image-extra package will be removed later, the
post-installation script will create an initrd.img file for a non-installed
kernel! Same would happen, if removing would be done by apt-get purge.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1689825] Re: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot

2017-08-12 Thread Tom Reynolds
This is not fixed. What we have is a reliable workaround to a bug which
apparently affects all Ubuntu 16.04 LTS users with the dbus-user-session
package installed.

Flatpak packages provided by the PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~alexlarsson/+archive/ubuntu/flatpak (and possibly
others) indirectly depend on this package and cause it to be installed
(but this issue which seems to be a bug in Ubuntu 16.04 is not this
PPA's fault).

  4) gnome-keyring is not unlocked, chrome takes 2 minutes to open and with no
secure password features(sync) functioning.

For the past couple days, chrome on Ubuntu 16.04 takes a REALLY long
time (maybe 2 minutes) to start. Once chrome is started, I am not able
to sync and any secure password features are broken. I found out this
is due to gnome-keyring not being unlocked at login. There's also no
way to unlock the "login" portion of the keyring from the running
daemon by default. I have to kill the gnome-keyring process and start
without "--login" as a parameter. Then the "login" section shows up
which I'm able to unlock. From there chrome starts up instantly but
  asks the following:

Enter password to unlock your login keyring
The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer

After that, all of it's sync and secure features are functional.

Starting google-chrome-stable from a command line at boot without
running the above workaround shows the following error messages:

Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1710353] [NEW] unable to maximize windows (doubled title bars?) in Ubuntu 17.10 alpha

2017-08-12 Thread TomaszChmielewski
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 17.10 alpha (with Gnome being the default environment) - when
compared to Unity on Ubuntu 17.04 and earlier - it is not possible to
fully maximize a window.

There are two title bars in Ubuntu 17.10 alpha and Gnome after a window
is maximized, while we had only one title bar in Unity and earlier
Ubuntu versions.

Two title bars instead of one waste screen real estate and don't contain
any extra information.

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Problem occurs with: light-themes 13.04+13.10.20131014-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 13.10
Does not occur with: light-themes 0.1.8.11, Ubuntu 11.04

  1. Position the pointer on an empty area of the desktop, or of a Nautilus
window's main pane.
  2. Without moving the pointer at all, either hold down the right mouse
button, or click once.
  3. Release the button, or click again.

  What happens:
  2. A shortcut menu opens with "New Folder" highlighted.
  3. A new folder is created.

  What should happen:
  2. A shortcut menu opens with nothing highlighted.
  3. Nothing.

This is a regression of bug 626462. I noticed the problem during a
usability test in 2009 or 2010, when someone tapped absent-mindedly on
the right mouse button and created a folder without realizing it.

The fix is to add as much padding above every menu's first item, and
below its last item, as there is above or below a menu separator (as
  illustrated in bug 659866).

Fixing this would also help avoid accidentally closing a menu in the
menu bar, when its first item is a submenu or other control that is
dangerously close to other items in the menu bar.
