[Touch-packages] [Bug 1577168] Re: Browser hangs Ubuntu 16.04

2017-11-01 Thread irontechmonkey
Also occurring here in ubuntu 16.04 LTS with symptoms similar to
original report: Upon attempting to run "Browser" the computer freezes.
The mouse may move but there is no response to anything other than mouse
cursor movement and long hold power button to reboot. Since previously a
question was asked about graphics, here are some details:

Dell Inspiration 5566
Intel Core™ i3-7100U @2.40GHz × 4
Intel® HD Graphics 620 (Kabylake GT2)
Laptop has one physical drive.
Windows 7 is installed in an NTFS partition using the first half of the drive.
Ubuntu is installed on the remaining half of the drive with default
partitioning.

There have been no other apparent problems running this configuration
(in either Ubuntu or Windows).

  [Impact]

   * This bug prevents users (currently Project Halium, UBports, Plasma Mobile)
from using the pulseaudio-modules-droid on android devices.
   * This behavior can be seen in Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 with xenial-updates
enabled.
   * Last 3 releases of pulseaudio included multiple patches which modified
behavior of pulsecore library but required changes were not made in
pulseaudio-module-droid.
   * This results in crash in pulseaudio-modules-droid

Title:
  Chrome + hardware acceleration after resume causes unusable system
  with Nvidia

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After resuming from a suspend, the Ubuntu UI lags so much the system is not
usable. However, this happens only if chrome is running (or is started if not
already running) and hardware acceleration is enabled in chrome.
  I've tried both GNOME Shell and Unity with the same result. ssh into the host
works fine while the UI is unusable, showing excessive CPU usage by Xorg,
gnome-shell and chrome processes.

  I tried disable the NVIDIA drivers to test with nouveau, but then the
  screen will not turn on after resume.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1623530] Re: Apport should be disabled by default

2017-11-01 Thread Luis Alvarado
Just updating that in 17.04 and 17.10 it still shows, some times
multiple times for the same issue. The opt-in option is better suited
for end users and if a developer wants it enabled they can simply edit
the apport file. But again, a year later and 2 versions later, a simple
opt-in approach (that would actually help so many users I have talk to)
would be the way to go. Anything else like telling the user to install
something or thinking for the developer first (and forgetting the whole
idea is to make a user friendly desktop system) is so wrong.

Bug description:
  I work with large communities (US, India, Latin America) and almost
  the number one issue they have with Ubuntu or simply scares them off
  is the fact that errors keep popping up every time. Some times
  multiples times per minutes, per hour, per day.

  The reason is how apport works by default. The "solution" is going to
  /etc/default/apport and setting the option to 0 (Disable). I do
  understand the full benefit or submitting automatically all bug
  reports, but this has gotten (And most Ubuntu users will be able to
  confirm) out of hand with some many popup questions about some bug or
  another that are simply fixed the moment the report is going to be
  send (eg: Compiz issue that was fixed a couple of milliseconds later,
  unity issue, dash issue, firefox issue, etc..). All of them have
  mechanism to handle failures and basically heal themselves.

  The question regarding this is:

  Leaving apport enable by default on an Ubuntu installation simply
  scares or annoys end users (a lot may I add). Leaving it disabled, it
  will not send a bug report, but there is no issue in simply creating
  an ubuntu-bug report through the terminal. So the sending of the
  report is still valid, but is not forced onto the user (And not forced
  so many times).

  This report is back by about 3 years going back and forth with the
  same apport issue and seeing probably around 500 users I have helped
  myself with the same issue, since this makes Ubuntu less productive to
  the actual user, even from start.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1729394] Re: 17.10 - Second monitor in portrait mode causes graphical issue

2017-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes let's keep the double cursor issue in bug 1724977.

This bug should be about the incorrect screen orientation after hitting
the Super (Windows) key.

** Summary changed:

- 17.10 - Second monitor in portrait mode causes graphical issue
+ Activities Overview on a rotated screen displays with wrong orientation
(unrotated)

** Package changed: wayland (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

Bug description:
  Having a secondary monitor in landscape mode works flawlessly in
  17.10. However, problems arise when I set a monitor to portrait mode.

  One thing that happens is when I bring my mouse to the edge of the
  screen, I see the cursor mirrored on the second screen.

  The main issue is when I hit the windows key and try to search for an
  application. The results look all scrambled and my secondary monitor
  is displayed in landscape mode with all of my windows.

  Look at my bug attachment to see a screenshot of what happens when I
  press the windows/super key and try to search for a program.

  On the left is my secondary monitor in portrait mode. When moving
  Windows to that monitor, it works as it should, but when I hit the
  Windows/super key to show all of my open windows, it displays in
  landscape.

  On the right is my main monitor in landscape mode. In that screen I
  was searching for my GEdit program.

Title:
  Inconsistency in Header Bars between Maximized and Normal windows
  states

Status in Ubuntu theme:

Status in ubuntu-themes package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Since Ubuntu 17.10 Header Bars (and title bars) use inverted styling when a
window is maximized.
  AFAICT this is for better visual integration with the top bar gradient.

  Transitioning from the top bar gradient to the header bar gradient is a good
choice,
  though it changes meaning for tab selection, for example in GNOME Software
where
  the UI is split into several tabs, making the visual appearance change
perception
  about which tab is actually being represented as "selected".

  This means that in normal state, the selected tab appears to be pushed
inwards,
  where as in maximized state the selection looks pushed outwards, which makes
using
  these types of applications kinda odd.

  I see 2 ways of solving this:

  * Revert the change of visual inversion of header bars in maximized state,
but invert the Shell Top Bar gradient instead
  (I can see multiple reasons to keep the top bar going from light to dark
downwards, though..)

  * Separate the visual representation of tabs within a Header Bar using color,
contrast, etc. and keep it consistent between maximized and normal state.
  This might be a good choice, but probably requires to adapt other types of
Header Bar widgets in the same way.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2017-11-01 Thread Julian Andres Klode
I'd say it's probably the synaptic one for Martin. We should change its
directory to be _apt owned too, though it's not really clear to me which
directories that are.

This should all be fixed in a hopefully near future with apt 1.6 or 1.7
opening these files as root and passing them down to the unprivileged
processes via a socket. That's not yet implemented, though I do have
mvo's branch from 2013 or so as a base.

Subject: Fight fire with fire?

K/D may be missleading when judging someone's performance tho. There
are people who will just wait on the other side of the wall, watch
their teammates fight 4v5 battle and do nothing unless it will surely
grant them a kill. It's annoying. And they end with a score 18/2/3 and
the second lowest damage dealt to Gods being only above the
tank/support. I hate those people  :(

  17.10 - Second monitor in portrait mode causes graphical issue

Status in wayland package in Ubuntu:
  New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1729194] Re: Systemd-Resolvd Forgets to Resolv Request

2017-11-01 Thread Christopher
Some more troubleshooting, I've found that if I manually set my
nameserver to 127.0.0.53 systemd-resolver starts working again. However
everytime that a wifi network connects or disconnects, it switches back
to `127.0.0.1`

It does look like systemd-resolve only listens on that port too. :

`udp0  0 127.0.0.53:53   0.0.0.0:*
858/systemd-resolve`

So what I need to find out is why network-manager isn't using the right
settings for systemd-resolve.

Title:
  Systemd-Resolvd Forgets to Resolv Request

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Systemd sometimes just doesn't resolve DNS queries and for the life of
  me I don't know why.

  So often when I'm switching between wifi networks I find that systemd-
  resolved in 17.10 complete fails to do it's job. Here's the example.
  I'm connected to the internet :

  ```
  chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 20:58:18}
  > ping 8.8.8.8
  PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
  64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=2 ttl=53 time=67.5 ms
  64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=3 ttl=53 time=78.9 ms
  ^C
  --- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
  3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 1999ms
  rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 67.534/114.169/196.025/58.068 ms
  ```

  But I can't seem to resolve domains:

  ```
  chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 20:59:17}
  > nslookup google.com
  ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
  ```

  So I did a `systemd-resolver --status` to see if it's getting the
  right dns server. It is :

  ```
  Link 3 (wlp2s0)
Current Scopes: DNS LLMNR/IPv4 LLMNR/IPv6
 LLMNR setting: yes
  MulticastDNS setting: no
DNSSEC setting: no
  DNSSEC supported: no
   DNS Servers: 192.168.43.1
2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::
2001:4888:50:ff00:500:d::
  ```

  And it's actually up and working properly :

  ```
  chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:02:06}
  > nslookup google.com 192.168.43.1
  Server: 192.168.43.1
  Address:192.168.43.1#53
  Non-authoritative answer:
  Name:   google.com
  Address: 172.217.11.78
  chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:03:16}
  > nslookup google.com 2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::
  Server: 2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::
  Address:2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::#53
  Non-authoritative answer:
  Name:   google.com
  Address: 172.217.11.78
  ```

  Systemd just can't figure out to make the request. I did try the
  common step of flushing the cache (with `--flush-cache`) restarting
  network-manager and systemd-resolverd service but nothing seems to be
  able to make systemd-resolverd function. Even a reboot doesn't always
  fix the issue; sometimes it persists.

  For debugging this is what's in my /etc/resolv.conf :

  ```
  chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:09:15}
  > cat /etc/resolv.conf
  # Generated by NetworkManager
  nameserver 127.0.1.1
  ```

  As soon as I manually set the nameserver from my loopback to the
  actual dns server (bypassing systemd-resolvd) things start working
  again. Let me know what kind of tshooting data I'd need to grab to
  help display this issue.

  In order to restore networking I had to manually edit that file and
  change my dns to the external source.

  The message seems harmless as far as the network is concerned, meaning
  there is no problem with the wifi connection. But it's spamming the
  syslog, making it very difficult to find any other thing there, and
  it's generating constant writes to disk, and an unnecessarily large
  syslog file.

  The message seems harmless as far as the network is concerned, meaning
  there is no problem with the wifi connection. But it's spamming the
  syslog, making it very difficult to find any other thing there, and
  it's generating constant writes to disk, and an unnecessarily large
  syslog file.

Bug description:
  I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 dev and upgrading fontconfig-config to version
  2.12.6-0ubuntu1 changed its dependencies from "fonts-dejavu-core |
  ttf-bitstream-vera | fonts-freefont-ttf | gsfonts-x11, ucf (>= 0.29)"
  to "ucf (>= 0.29), fonts-dejavu-core | ttf-bitstream-vera | fonts-
  liberation | fonts-freefont" which caused at default fonts-dejavu-core
  being additionally installed.

  My system has also ttf-mscorefonts-installer installed which utilizes
  custom rules to emulate the sharp looking fonts behavior Windows
  systems had. But installing fonts-dejavu-core alone causes this sharp
  look to get aliased again in the most places. A workaround for
  fontconfig-config is to install fonts-liberation as it seems to not
  break the sharp look.

  I can't tell exactly which of the 3 possible packages is the main cause for
this issue:
  - Is that the installation of fonts-dejavu-core alone breaks the look a bug?
  - Needs ttf-mscorefonts-installer an update to take over priority or such?
  - Or is it possible that fontconfig-config could also technically support
ttf-mscorefonts-installer as additional fonts dependency choice?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1729377] [NEW] AMD r7 250 wrong detection

2017-11-01 Thread brad
Public bug reported:

My AMD R7 250 GPU is being wrongly detected in Ubuntu as a Radeon HD
8830M. This results in the wrong detection of drivers. The result is a
wrongly installed driver and very poor performance. This bug has been
affecting me since Ubuntu 16.10, and still affects me in Ubuntu 17.10.

brad@brad-ubuntu:~$ lspci | grep 'VGA compatible controller'
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Venus
LE [Radeon HD 8830M] (rev 87)
brad@brad-ubuntu:~$ lsmod | grep -i 'radeon'
radeon   1470464  9
i2c_algo_bit   16384  2 amdgpu,radeon
ttm94208  2 amdgpu,radeon
drm_kms_helper167936  2 amdgpu,radeon
drm   356352  9 amdgpu,radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper
brad@brad-ubuntu:~$ lsmod | grep -i 'amdgpu'
amdgpu   2007040  0
i2c_algo_bit   16384  2 amdgpu,radeon

drm_kms_helper167936  2 amdgpu,radeon
drm   356352  9 amdgpu,radeon,ttm,drm_kms_helper

Ubuntu installs by autodetection: xserver-xorg-video-ati. The proper
driver is, xserver-xorg-video-radeon.

However even after proper installation of the new driver. Ubuntu still
reports that I am using a mobile graphics card, instead of a desktop
graphics card.

Ubuntu reports: llvmpipe (LLVM 5.0, 128 bits) with the radeon driver.
And CAPE VERDE with the ati driver. Its a "OLAND" or "southern island"
card.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1722767] Re: package openssh-server 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-11-01 Thread Joshua Powers
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

You have a locally-installed init script, /etc/init.d/vpnagentd_init,
which lacks an LSB header defining its dependencies. You can move
this init script aside to finish your install, and add an LSB header
to that script to make it compatible again with Ubuntu.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would
be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem
with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu

Nope, your part is done. All SRUs have to bake for 7 days in -proposed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  When querying a Physical Function netdev with a large amount of VF's
  (more than 30), the resulting return message can overflow the 16K
  netlink message buffer.

  This can be fixed by enabling message peeking on the socket and
  resizing the buffer on receive, or by simply enlarging the receive
  buffer.

  Since there's an upper limit to the number of VF's per PF, it's
  relatively sane to just enlarge the receive buffer. Please see the
  attached patch.

  [Test Case]

  # Set up 60 VF's on an SR-IOV device
  ip link show > /dev/null

  Observe the following:
  Message truncated
  Message truncated
  Message truncated

  [Regression Potential]

  1) Applications relying on the broken behaviour will need to be updated, but
it would be a really dubious use case.
  2) Increasing the rx buffer size increases the memory footprint (but
realistically, this is tiny).
  3) Extra processing time is now needed to parse the larger buffer, in the
case that a call to "ip link" is on the critical time path of an application,
(called multiple times in a tight loop, for example), it would affect load.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1722508] Re: Font hinting appears broken on 17.10 beta

2017-11-01 Thread md_5
I can confirm this, originally thought it was a Java bug since that is
the only place I've seen the issue -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-8/+bug/1729257

Major annoyance, I second the request for a backport.

Thanks!

Status in freetype source package in Artful:

Bug description:
  It appears that font hinting in 17.10 (beta) doesn't work as expected.
  The issue is easy to miss if you have antialiasing enabled system-
  wise. However, if you install "gnome-tweak-tool" and disable
  antialiasing there, the problem becomes obvious.

  Here is how it looks on 17.10 beta:
  https://postimg.org/image/3auqsbkqtn/

  And here is how it looks on my 16.04 machine (and this is pretty much how
it's supposed to look):
  https://postimg.org/image/85n5ss3l4b/

  * When comparing the pictures make sure you "Open image in new tab"
  and see them without browser zoom, otherwise the problem may no be
  obvious.

  I suspect that this issue is caused by a bug in some base font
  rendering package that Ubuntu uses (edit: the problem is probably
  caused by FreeType 2.8.0, see my comments below). A couple of months
  ago a similar issue was reported (and promptly fixed) in Chromium
  after they had changed something in FreeType rendering
  (https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=748997).

  IMO, so feel free to close this if you disagree, the suggested and
  destructive (green and red) colours that are used in GTK UIs are too
  bright.

  Attached is a screenshot from Marco that shows them both. (It's a
  faked up example, usually you don't see them together like that.)

  They draw the eye too much I think. It should be a hint for where you
  might or might not want to click, but not something that grabs your
  attention.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1706939] Re: A live session can't be shut down due to "[ *** ] (2 of 2) A start job is running for ... (21s / no limit)"

2017-11-01 Thread AB
this is an annoying issue, i had the same on a fresh installation of
arfull on my dell inspiron 5570.

i think we have two separate issues:

A) [ *** ] (2 of 2) A start job is running for Wait for Network to be
Configured (21s / no limit)

systemd-networkd-wait-online.service fails to start and it adds +2min
delay at startup when your wired Ethernet is not connected.

looking at that https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2154

I start the service by adding --ignore=enp2s0 in /lib/systemd/system
/systemd-networkd-wait-online.service

[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/lib/systemd/systemd-networkd-wait-online --ignore=enp2s0
RemainAfterExit=yes

Now i have:

time sudo /lib/systemd/systemd-networkd-wait-online --ignore=enp2s0
ignoring: enp2s0
ignoring: lo

real0m0.023s
user0m0.006s
sys 0m0.013s

B) a stop job ... or kworker blocked... msg at Shutdown, reboot ..
looking at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1724317

I've fixed upgrading the kernel to 4.13.10.

Title:
  AirPlay - AirTunes (Airport Express) support over UDP for shairplay
  and Speakers that use shairplay

Status in PulseAudio:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  If you install "paprefs"pulse audio preferences manager on the
  first tab you can enable the support for :

  Make discoverable Apple AirTunes sound devices available locally.

  I have it enabled i can see my AirTune device as an Output device
  on sound settings but when i select it its doesnt transmit the sound
  ( Actually the player stops playing like there is no output device ) .

  My airtune device is working great with any other way like control
  over iphone   itunes etc .

  EDIT : The culprit found by others is that Pulseaudio raop is using
  TCP for data stream in conflict that the Shairplay use only UDP .

  Pulseaudio should move on UDP as well because every Speaker-device on
  the market is using shairplay - UDP

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1728791] Re: [SRU] pulseaudio-droid module crashes on start

2017-11-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It *looks* OK to me but I have no authority to release it...

Also note you're in a race with another person so may conflict and may
need to make a new version if theirs lands first -> bug 1718824

  [SRU] pulseaudio-droid module crashes on start

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial, and pulseaudio version 8.0-0ubuntu3.4
