Patch: Add configuration for german provider winSIM

Status in mobile-broadband-provider-info package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I was unable to contribute a patch to the upstream gnome package:

https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/NetworkManager/MobileBroadband/ServiceProviders
(They seem to have migrated their git servers away)

I still think this little config change adds value to Ubuntu users, hence I
am opening this issue.
  Find the patchfile attached.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1523100] Re: Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255] (Realtek)

2019-08-13 Thread Hui Wang
According to #82, that deb was not installed successfully.

This is probably because you enabled secure boot in the BIOS or boot the
signed kernel. Could you change to use the unsigned kernel (#79), maybe
disable the secure boot in the BIOS, then you could load the unsigned
kernel.

Title:
Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255] (Realtek)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04 alongside Windows 10 on a 64bit Acer
Aspire VN7-792G and noticed, that the internal microphone doesn't
work. The computer has been released a couple of months ago and it's
Intel Skylake -based with a Sunrise Point -based motherboard.

INFO: The problem exists in Ubuntu 15.10 too, only microphone jack
detected. Currently using Ubuntu 16.04 for proper hardware support.

Alsa reports the audio device to be:

  Card: HDA Intel PCH
  Chip: Intel Skylake HDMI

The speakers are working fine, but both alsamixer and pavucontrol
(Pulseaudio Volume Control) raport the unplugged external microphone
connector as the only sound input.

I have tried many of the alsa model configurations (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) without success, alsa finds only the microphone
jack, which works fine when I plug an external microphone in it.

  Here's some info:

  lspci | grep -I audio:

00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H
  HD Audio (rev 31)

  cat /proc/asound/cards:

  0 [PCH]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0x8432 irq 128

And a clip from dmesg | grep snd:

  [3.019164] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: bound :00:02.0 (ops
i915_audio_component_bind_ops [i915])

  [3.047514] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Mic=0x1a

One problem is that I can't find any model options (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) or other parameters for the card's model
(ALC255), I suppose this issue is relatively new.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1796501] Re: systemd-resolved tries to mitigate DVE-2018-0001 even if DNSSEC=yes

2019-08-13 Thread Bryan Quigley
I've confirmed the fix causes other issues (above), and is still needed
for wifi to work at Starbucks (In Toronto) - although DNS failed after
accepting to east.datavalet.io.

I'm going to reach out to Datavalet and see if they have any thoughts.

I ask systemd-resolved through dig to resolve the SOA of test.asdf. (doesn't
exist) but it returns SERVFAIL instead of NXDOMAIN. It seems to do the
following steps:
  1. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. with EDNS0, DO-bit and 4k size.
  2. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. with EDNS0 and DO-bit.
  3. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. with EDNS0.
  4. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. without EDNS0.
  5. Repeat 1-4 for DS of test.asdf.
  6. Repeat 1-5 for asdf.
  7. Ask upstream for SOA of . with EDNS0, DO-bit and 4k size.
  8. Ask upstream for DNSKEY of . with EDNS0, DO-bit and 4k size.

The upstream returns an unfragmented NXDOMAIN response for steps 1-6,
an unfragmented NOERROR response for step 7 and a fragmented NOERROR
response for step 8 which is the correct behaviour. DNSSEC records are
included in the response if the DO-bit in the request was set.

systemd-resolved should take the response from step 1 and start with
validation instead of starting useless retries with reduced feture
set. Step 3 and 4 are completely useless and probably lead to the
SERVFAIL because I have configured it with DNSSEC=yes to prevent
  downgrade attacks.

This regression seems to be caused by the patch resolved-Mitigate-
  DVE-2018-0001-by-retrying-NXDOMAIN-with.patch. The downgrade logic
should only be executed if it is configured as DNSSEC=allow-downgrade
  or DNSSEC=no. See also

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1837537] Re: FTBFS since lxc has different version numbers in Debian and Ubuntu

2019-08-13 Thread Steve Langasek
I'm uploading lua-lxc with an adjustment to the versioned build-

But ultimately it would be better if Ubuntu followed Debian on the epoch

The lua-lxc [1] package currently fails to build since it cannot

Looks like this is caused by different version numbers in Debian and
Ubuntu. The latest version in Debian unstable is 1:3.1.0+really3.0.3-8
while Ubuntu eoan has 3.0.3-0ubuntu1. I believe the 1: epoch (?) is
  causing this issue.

Presumably lua-lxc needs to be patched to allow the Ubuntu package to

By default, because of snapd reexec support on Ubuntu (and some other

It appears that libapparmor object files are built without -fPIC
  though.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1589289] Re: fstrim: cannot open /dev/.lxd-mounts: Permission denied

As all of this is handled by the kernel, there isn't anything we can

I think fstrim should be made slightly more clever:

  * Don't run on bind-mounts (you can detect bind-mounts by parsing
/proc/self/mountinfo instead of /proc/mounts)
  * Maybe not be as noisy on expected errors like EACCES, EPERM and ENOENT,
only log actual failures which would likely be EINVAL or memory related errors.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1840086] [NEW] systemd-container should include oci hooks

2019-08-13 Thread Tessa
Public bug reported:

there are two OCI hooks which should be included in the systemd-
container package, or in their own packages which are recommended by
systemd-container. they allow containers based on systemd as pid1 to run
correctly in unprivileged runtimes based on OCI, such as docker.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 508522] Re: Mic is not available with A2DP Bluetooth profile

2019-08-13 Thread Michael
Maybe this issue has a more fitting issue (and helpful? information):

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
Mic is not available with A2DP Bluetooth profile

Status in PulseAudio:
  New
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  I'm testing a Nokia BH-905i headset (see
http://www.wissel.net/blog/d6plinks/SHWL-8AZGGF ) on Ubuntu 10.10. The
Bluetooth module correctly identifies the headset and the both audio profiles
"HSP/ HFP Telephony duplex" and "A2DP High Fidelity Playback". For music
playback only A2DP is suitable (HSP/HFP sounds like listening to music played
through an old telephone). A2DP does not have an INPUT mode, so use of the
headset for VoiP isn't possible.
What would be needed is a separate selection to allow to select A2DP for
output and HSP/HFP for input. Smartphones (a lot of them *nix based) phones do
that (or they switch on the fly?).

  Formal structure:
  1) Ubuntu 10.10
  2) Pulse-Audio 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu21.1
  consisting og pluseaudio, pulseaudio-esound-compat,
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth, pulseaudio-module-gconf, pulseaudio-module-x11,
pulseaudio-utils
  3) Select high quality audio output and still use the Bluetooth microphone
  4) Had to choose: either high quality audio or "telephone quality" with
microphone

I can change the profile without the Bluetooth connection dropping,
but that's ridiculous. E.g. listening to music, a call comes in. Then
I would need to switch the profile before answering. Please note that
in Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile it's done
  automatically.

  Check out attached screencast.

We could also implement a check mechanism inside
"/etc/cron.weekly/fstrim" using'systemd-detect-virt', if it's a
container don't run it, otherwise let's do it.

[/etc/cron.weekly/fstrim] # script as-is
#!/bin/sh

/sbin/fstrim --all || true

Maybe using 'ConditionVirtualization=!container' should be enought to
prevent fstrim from running inside container, I'll give it a try later
this week. If its work as expected, I'll submit it upstream.

'container' type would cover the following:

openvz OpenVZ/Virtuozzo
lxc Linux container implementation by LXC
lxc-libvirt Linux container implementation by libvirt
systemd-nspawn systemd's minimal container implementation, see
systemd-nspawn(1)
docker Docker container manager
podman Podman container manager

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1839231] Re: updating bionic to 237-3ubuntu10.25 restarts systemd-networkd

2019-08-13 Thread Shivaram Lingamneni
Thanks! This system is using netplan, with ipv6-privacy enabled in
netplan (subsequent to the fix in bug #1750392):

root@pentos:~# cat /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system

# For more information, see netplan(5).
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  ethernets:
ens5:
  dhcp4: true
  ipv6-privacy: true

The issue reproduces with the ens5 interface. Stopping systemd-networkd
does not change any addresses, but starting it again removes all the
"deprecated" addresses, even if they are in use by TCP connections:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1813581] Please test proposed package

2019-08-13 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gpgme1.0 into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpgme1.0/1.10.0-1ubuntu2.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Several schools reported black screens after normally updating their Ubuntu
boxes from 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~18.04.1 to 18.2.2-0ubuntu1~18.04.1.

  Downgrading mesa fixes the problem.

Graphics 530 [8086:1912] (rev 06) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer
  Inc. HD Graphics 530 [1043:8694]Kernel modules: i915

Unfortunately I can't find a lot of useful information, here are some bits:
   * systemctl --failed says "gpu-manager" and "lightdm" have failed
   * Xorg.log is clean: https://termbin.com/6l2b
   * dmesg too: https://termbin.com/ip4e
   * It happens on lightdm/MATE, I don't know about Ubuntu GNOME.
   * If one runs `xinit` from ssh, it fails with:
i965: Failed to submit batchbuffer: Invalid argument

This is caused by mesa assuming that soft-pinning on GEN8+ is working
since kernel 4.5, but in fact this issue wasn't fixed until 4.19.3. So
a proper fix would be to backport commits from 4.19.3/4.20 to fix GTT
sizes/pin flags, but that's left for future.

  [Test case]
install fixed mesa or kernel, check that the regression is fixed

  [Regression potential]
mesa: shouldn't be any, it just reverts the change to always soft-pin
(TODO kernel: adds commits from upstream stable, which have been well tested
upstream by now)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1834138] Re: PA: Don't restore the streams to sinks/sources with only unavailable ports

2019-08-13 Thread Brian Murray
Please update the "Regression Potential" of the bug description.
Additionally, I think this should be reuploaded to bionic-proposed queue

  [Impact]

The Lenovo P520 machine has dual analogue codecs, so there are two
sinks and two sources in the PA, one has the front headphone and front
microphone, the other has the rear lineout, linein and rear
microphone, and the rear microphone always shows up in the gnome-
sound-setting, When we plug a microphone to front audio jack, there
are two input devices: rear mic and front mic in the gnome-sound-
setting, and suppose users select the the front mic to record sound
via audio app like arecord, the front mic will be bond the arecord,
after the front mic is unplugged, there is only one rear mic left in
the gnome-sound-setting, but the binding will not be changed, the
arecrod still bind to front mic, under this situation if users record
sound via arecord, they will find they can't record any sound from any
other input devices even they are listed in the gnome-sound-setting.
This problem also happens to output devices too.

  [Test Case]

After applying this patch, I did the same test: unplug the front mic,
then use the arecord to record sound, the app can record sound from
rear mic now. After I plug the front mic back, the arecord still
record from front mic. Also did the similar test for output devices,
  it worked as expected too.

  [Regression Potential]

No, Just make a simple check when creating new streams
(sink_input/source_output), If the restored device (sink/source) has
ports and all ports are unavialble, it will not restore the binding,
otherwise it will work as before.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1837580] Re: memlock is not set

2019-08-13 Thread Mauro Panigada
The same happens to me, same distro, some infos are different (namely
the kernel, 4.18.0-18-generic, since 5.0.0... frozes my machine -
another issue to be investigated), but I don't think these differences
are relevant. I've set

DefaultLimitMEMLOCK=infinity

in /etc/systemd/system.conf and also /etc/systemd/user.conf (also tried
to put a file in newly created /etc/systemd/user.conf.d)

/etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf has

@audio   -  rtprio 95
@audio   -  memlockunlimited

As root I can ulimit -l to unlimited. As normal user (in the group audio of
course) I can't go with more than 65536.

I discovered this in relation to jack, which installs
  /etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf, containing:

For a user in the audio group:

  $ulimit -l -r
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 65536

So jack (run as user via qjackctl) reports:

ERROR: Cannot lock down 82280346 byte memory area (Cannot allocate
  memory)

but does not report that it cannot set real-time priority, which it
does if run by a user not in the audio group.

I also tried putting the line in /etc/security/limits.conf, and trying
a number rather than "unlimited", but it didn't help.

  things return to normal.

This did not used to happen. Closing or submitting the print-to-PDF
used to result in the pop-up window closing immediately and the
  browser regaining responsiveness.

Bug description:
  * Impact
The livepatch UI design includes a control in software-properties which let
you enable the indicator or not, that UI element is currently missing from
bionic

  * Test case
  - start software-properties
  - go the livepatch tab and enable livepatch by adding an account
-> the UI should include a toggle that let you activate/disactive the
indicator
  - click on the control button
-> the indicator status should reflect the control one

  * Regression potential
The change is adding a new widget, it shouldn't impact on existing code but
check that the page layout is still correct. The change also include
translatable strings, they are being handled the same way as the other
livepatch strings added in the previous upload (shared translations between
serie included in langpack updates)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1838370] Re: slapd segfault on filter parse error

2019-08-13 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
** Description changed:

- Impact
- --
+ [Impact]

Users willing to use the slapd rwm overlay will face a slapd
segmentation fault when trying to rewrite some rules. Backporting this
fix will allow users using stable releases to take advantage of this
feature without crashing slapd. This issue was fixed by upstream not
freeing the rwm overlay filter memory without prior checking.

- Test Case
- -
+ [Test Case]

In this test case, the rwm overlay will be used and a rule will be
created to deny any search request for uid=root, then the 'ldapsearch'
will be invoked to trigger the failure. It is important to mention that
the 'ldapsearch' command should fail regardless the presence of the bug
in the package, the target here is the slapd crash. To reproduce this
bug one can follow the procedure below in Ubuntu xenial, bionic or
  disco:

  $ sudo apt-get update
-

Use debconf to pre-seed slapd questions before install it:

  $ debconf-set-selections << EOF
  slapd slapd/no_configuration boolean false
  slapd slapd/domain string example.com
  slapd shared/organization string example.com
  slapd slapd/password1 password test
  slapd slapd/password2 password test
  slapd slapd/backend select MDB
  slapd slapd/move_old_database boolean false
  EOF
  $ sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils -y
-

Create a file called 'add-rwm.ldif' with the following content:

  $ cat add-rwm.ldif
  dn: cn=module{0},cn=config
  changetype: modify
  add: olcModuleLoad
  olcModuleLoad: rwm

  dn: olcOverlay=rwm,olcDatabase={1}mdb,cn=config
  changetype: add
  objectClass: olcOverlayConfig
  objectClass: olcRwmConfig
  olcOverlay: rwm
  olcRwmRewrite: {0} rwm-rewriteEngine "on"
  olcRwmRewrite: {1} rwm-rewriteContext "searchFilter"
  olcRwmRewrite: {2} rwm-rewriteRule "(.*)(uid=root)(.*)" "$1$2$3" "#"

With this file in place, run:

  $ sudo ldapadd -Q -Y EXTERNAL -H ldapi:/// -f add-rwm.ldif

  Now, to trigger the crash:

  $ ldapsearch -x -h localhost -b dc=example,dc=com -LLL uid=root
Server is unwilling to perform (53)
  Additional information: searchFilter/searchFilterAttrDN massage error

-
- slapd process will die, and /var/crash will have a crash file for slapd. You
can run the following command to confirm the error:
+ slapd process will die, and /var/crash will have a crash file for slapd.
+ You can run the following command to confirm the error:

  $ cat /var/log/syslog | grep filter_free
  Aug 9 19:51:05 popular-gorilla slapd[1479]: filter_free: unknown filter
type=28530

  -> Expected behavior

In this test case, as mentioned before, the 'ldapsearch' command should
fail but the 'slapd' process should not die. As result, we don't expect
a slapd crash report in /var/crash directory.

- Regression Potential
-
+ [Regression Potential]

Since the fix is a patch provided by upstream (reviewed by maintainers
and us) simple mistakes like typos are not expected. The patch impacts
only the rwm module which is not loaded by default. So any regression
would affect only the users that make use of this overlay. If an user is
not using rwm overlay and is facing any issue, it should be related to
other problems related to LDAP directory services.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Several schools reported black screens after normally updating their Ubuntu
boxes from 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~18.04.1 to 18.2.2-0ubuntu1~18.04.1.

  Downgrading mesa fixes the problem.

lspci: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation HD
Graphics 530 [8086:1912] (rev 06) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer
  Inc. HD Graphics 530 [1043:8694]Kernel modules: i915

Unfortunately I can't find a lot of useful information, here are some bits:
   * systemctl --failed says "gpu-manager" and "lightdm" have failed
   * Xorg.log is clean: https://termbin.com/6l2b
   * dmesg too: https://termbin.com/ip4e

Bug description:
Since less than a month ago, using the print page dialog (which for me
defaults to saving as PDF) is outlandishly slow. Once opened, if I try
to close it (click cancel / press Esc) or to use it (click Save or
press Enter), there is no visible response, and my system hangs for 10
seconds. After that though, the operation concludes successfully and
  things return to normal.

This did not used to happen. Closing or submitting the print-to-PDF
used to result in the pop-up window closing immediately and the
  browser regaining responsiveness.

Existing accounts work fine, but if I add a new account using gnome-

  source_credentials_required_cb: Failed to authenticate
'i...@orangesquash.org.uk': Error reading data from TLS socket: The
specified session has been invalidated for some reason.

  I think that's an error from glib-networking.

I tried on eoan only, so far (a clean system and my real one). As
first steps maybe we need to try disco, and maybe also downgrading
glib-networking. Or upgrading it: there is a new release waiting to be
  packaged.

"Software & Updates" has CD/DVD options, which is (a) antiquated and

I understand it likely works by standardized mount paths, but most
users nowadays will be installing with a USB stick which has no
  support.

Imagine a new user who needs to install custom broadlink drivers from
USB stick, but there's no way to easily configure the package manager
to do it. That was my situation, I ended up finding the .deb file on
  the USB manually.

I think you should just rework all this as an "Installation Media"
option, and search all mounted paths for an Ubuntu signature.

It was already developed and published a while ago:

This patch fixes data corruption issues, and thus is very important.

Bug description:
  [Background]
Many packages are affected by the requirement to support the new era "Reiwa"
(令和)

This is the meta bug to track packages that need fixes; which packages
have already been SRUd to previous releases, how to prioritize the
work needed, and general test cases for verifying that things are
  working as expected.

  [Impact]
Users who run Ubuntu in Japanese.

  [Test cases]

Unicode data embedded into icu should include REIWA like it includes
  HEISEI.

  == Date conversion ==

On applications that support writing dates in long form, or with
symbols to denote era (either in X00.00.00 format or in GG1G5G1G
  format (G- glyph; X- character):

  1) Enable date formatting in each of the above formats that are supported
(long form or symbols)
  2) Type in '2019/05/01' to be formatted, verify that it shows as "令和1年5月1日"
or "R1.05.01"
  3) Type in '2019/04/30' to be formatted, verify that it shows as "平成31年4月30日"
or "H31.4.30"

  == Character maps / font support ==

  1) Search for character "SQUARE ERA NAME"
  2) Verify that the results include at least "SQUARE ERA NAME HEISEI" and
"SQUARE ERA NAME REIWA" (there should also be Syouwa, Taisyou and Meizi), and
that the glyphs are readable:

   - SQUARE ERA NAME HEISEI: ㍻
   - SQUARE ERA NAME REIWA: 令和 (in a single glyph)

Display of the Reiwa square glyph is font-specific; it may show simply
as a empty square or a square with hex characters. If that is the
case, the unicode data supports the new character, but the selected
font does not include the new glyph.

  [Regression potential]
This is a potentially large change as it impacts font display, character sets
as well as date conversions. As such, extreme care should be taken to ensure
that regressions are avoided, such that dates previous to May 1, 2019 continue
to display as before, and dates onward are displayed with the new era symbols.
The included test cases account for verifying the continued behavior or
previous dates.
