  Automatically switching to downloads page awkward in large layout

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Currently in small or expanded mode, we automatically switch to the
  Downloads page when requesting to download a file from the browser. We
  should consider changing this behavior, especially on expanded mode,
  the main reason being it's quite disruptive if you want to download a
  file and continue to browse. In expanded mode, all of the tabs get
  obscured by the Downloads header and page and you have to use the back
  arrow to get back to the tabs.

  Couple of possible options:

  1. In expanded mode, don't switch to page but instead show some sort
  of download icon while it's in progress, possibly next to the drawer
  icon or in the tab bar if there is room. Clicking on it would bring
  you to the downloads page. Note there is already a download indicator
  in the top system toolbar but it's not super obvious, especially on a
  large screen. Might be better for app to display it in addition..

  2. Prompt with dialog when downloading, with options to "Automatically
  show Downloads", "Never show Downloads", "Prompt each time.." or
  something along those lines

  Currently, moving the cursor is quite hard and inaccurate.
  Space bar is quite big and makes it a good place to swipe to move the cursor.
  With this approach, we're not using more space and instead use a big part of
the keyboard that is only there mostly for inserting spaces. The sensitivity is
critical though because you don't want unintended movement of the cursor but I
think it's very much doable.

  2. Prompt with dialog when downloading, with options to "Automatically
  show Downloads", "Never show Downloads", "Prompt each time.." or
  something along those lines

looks like two problems:
1) get rid of OnlyShowIn=Old
2) after doing so and launching in u8 shows an error dialog. I believe we have
code to show the file picker to choose the file and we should make sure to show
that so that app is functional on the desktop.

  think we should remove all max sizing restrictions on the app, and
  bring back the maximize button which is not displayed either.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Run the keyboard under Unity8 (silo 2481 can be helpful in making this

  2) Click in an input field
  3) Move the mouse over the keyboard
  4) Attempt to click on the app again

  Expected result:

  The mouse click should be passed through to the app

  Actual result:

  The click is swallowed by the keyboard surface instead. However, it is
  still possible to click on the app if this is done prior to the mouse
  entering the visible keyboard area.

  :

  The on-screen keyboard should appear if:
  * no external keyboard is connected, and a text field becomes focused; or
  * an external keyboard is connected, but the most recent text typed anywhere
was with the OSK, and a text field becomes focused; or
  * an external keyboard is connected, and the most recent text typed was with
an external keyboard, but you tap in the already-focused text field. (App
developers are responsible for emulating this behavior in typable areas that
are not text fields.)

  == original description ==

  1. Boot nexus 7
  2. In the login screen, test that OSK works by tapping the password textfield
  3. swipe keyboard back down after testing it works
  4. Turn on Bluetooth mouse to get a mouse cursor
  5. Click on password textfield

  OSK doesn't pop up, touch tapping on the field doesn't bring up the
  OSK anymore either.

  ie. The login screen is not usable with mouse connected - cannot type
  in password via OSK since it doesn't come up when clicking the
  password textfield with mouse.

  See attached screenshot. Focus on textfield. Would expect OSK to show
  up.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1645372] Re: support display scaling slider in unity8

2017-02-06 Thread Bill Filler
Just re-tested this with latest Mir 0.26 and silo 2140
https://bileto.ubuntu.com/#/ticket/2140 with changes from system
settings to add the scaling slider (uses mir api)

All of the app windows correctly scale. But the shell does not scale at
all. Obviously we'd want windows and the shell to scale together.

  I think the following tweaks would make it much more clear which window is

  1) The app icon at the bottom should get bigger or some effect applied to it
when the app window is selected. My eyes tend to look there as it's less
cluttered than the window preview list
  2) Make the border around the selected window preview thicker/darker to make
it stand out more as currently the border highlighting is very subtle
  And/Or
  3) Make the actual window preview larger (or some other effect to make it
move forward) for the selected window so that it's super clear which window is
selected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1661668] [NEW] multi-windows titles not being displayed in launcher popup menu

2017-02-03 Thread Bill Filler
Public bug reported:

Expectation is for the launcher icon popup menus to be on parity with
unity7 popup menus. Currently it is missing the window titles for multi
window apps.

Steps to repro:

Open the webbrowser-app
Via the menu, create a new window

Expected Results:
- browser icon in launcher should show 2 dots on left of icon
- right clicking on browser icon should display popup menu listing the window
titles of all browser windows that are open, selecting the title from the menu
should bring that window to the foreground

Actual Results:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1659435] Re: browser stops rendering all pages instead shows new tab page

2017-02-02 Thread Bill Filler
Hit this again, looks like oxide-render processes are running
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23912354/

Here is log from browser:
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23912358/

The problem occurred clicking on a link in a gmail message which attempted to
open a new tab.
Note that I can long press on a tab and open in a new window and it renders
correctly. I can also create a new private window and that works correctly, so
seems to be an issue only with the main window and not oxide rendering per se

Bug description:
  Hello,
  if you edit text in a web browser's text input field (like Gmail) and click
right in front of the last inserted word (the underlined one with auto
corrections available) and then start typing the cursor should stay in front of
the stuff it was put as well as the text inserted to the current cursor
position. Instead it gets moved after the underlined word and new text inserted
after as well.

  I am on rc-proposed, MX4 (and I've been experiencing this bug ever
  since auto correction was made available in the web browser)

  phone app doesn't support landscape mode rendering itself unusable in

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  On a phone running Ubuntu Touch, I would think, phone app is the
  absolute essential. It should even more so be ready for every user
  scenario. But it isn't. It does not support landscape mode.

  When in staged mode, it just simply ignores the landscape mode and
  forcefully displays itself vertically. Well, at least it can be used,
  so fine.

  However, when in windowed mode, you can no longer make use of this. I
  use my Ubuntu Touch phone mostly in landscape windowed mode. I cannot
  make phone calls, because I can't even see the "call" button (attached
  screen from my Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition).

  Now, regardless whether or not it is anticipated by Canonical that
  users will like me use Ubuntu Touch on the phone in landscape windowed
  mode, it just should be possible! And it's not a big deal either, make
  the UI a bit more responsive.

  Hi folks,

  while trying to navigate to an OpenStack Dashboard (Horizon), the web
  browser does not display the web site correctly.

  Also navigating to a Juju-Dashboard has the same effect.

  Examples:
  Horizon Dashboard
  https://x86.trystack.org/dashboard/auth/login/?next=/dashboard/

  Juju:
  https://demo.jujucharms.com

  Its a little bit funny, that a Canonical product does not work with other
Canonical products.

  Regards.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1637285] [NEW] espn and espnfc show mobile versions on desktop

Bug description:
  I have stored 2 different contacts in my address book with similar
  numbers:

  Name 1 -> +43 1 9663*** (a landline number)
  Name 2 -> +43 699 19663*** (a cell phone number)

  The last 8 digits are the same in both numbers.

  What happens:

  If I select the 2nd number, the messaging app shows the name belonging
  to the 1st number (in both the compose view and in the history view).
  Because the number is not shown in the compose view, I don't see if I
  selected the correct contact.

  (BTW, the dialer app shows the wrong (1st) name as well if I select
  the 2nd contact. But I can check it because the number is shown as
  well.)

  What I expect to happen:

  If I select the 2nd number, the name belonging to the 2nd number
  should be displayed.

  Can we fix either A or B?

  B seems to be because the OSK assumes u8 and its Mir server already

when launching a snap from the dash it's also displaying a blank
"unity8" window in addition to the functional app window. Assuming that
is because of this workaround using --desktop_file_hint=unity8

you can test with ubuntu-calendar-app or address-book-app from store:

Bug description:
  Some apps can't find their main qml file. Error messages like:

  "file:///build/messaging-app-gcXPE6/messaging-
  app-0.1+16.04.20160831/src/qml/messaging-app.qml: File not found"

  (in my case, the file was in /snap/unity8-session/x24/usr/share
  /messaging-app/messaging-app.qml)

  Seems due to code like the following in config.h.in. Probably needs
  to consider the value of $SNAP or just be a little more forgiving.

  inline bool isRunningInstalled() {
  static bool installed = (QCoreApplication::applicationDirPath() ==

QDir(("@CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX@/@CMAKE_INSTALL_BINDIR@")).canonicalPath());
  return installed;
  }

  inline QString messagingAppDirectory() {
  if (isRunningInstalled()) {
  return QString("@CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX@/@MESSAGING_APP_DIR@/");
  } else {
  return QString("@CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR@/src/qml/");
  }
  }

  inline QString ubuntuPhonePluginPath() {
  if (isRunningInstalled()) {
  return QString::null;
  } else {
  return QString("@CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR@/");
