[Touch-packages] [Bug 1604433] Re: Listening audio does not work on the desktop

2016-07-28 Thread Fabio
I tried installing qtubuntu-media and it made the dash go in a loop of
crash and restart. I could not try the music-app because with qtubuntu-
media was installed it crashed on startup. I purged the package, now the
dash works correctly and I can even play music from the Music scope.
Opening the Music app now works again, but no sound is produced. Using
the webbrowser-app there was no audio neither with nor without qtubuntu-
media package.

Speakers are not muted. I tryed both with or withoud headphones, without
any difference of result.

  Result: a blank page with 'Cancel' button, no way to navigate back,
  hitting it crashes the dash (I couldn't get a usable backtrace).

  NB, this works fine when authenticating using a genuine Soundcloud
  account. It seems like authenticating via Google is causing the

  didn't want to.

  Test case:
1. Open an app.
2. Open the launcher swiping from the left.
3. Close the launcher without triggering any touches in the app.

  Expected: Tapping outside the launcher will close it without touches reaching
the app.
  Observed: Tapping outside the launcher closes it but unwanted touches reach
the app.

  You can close the launcher by swiping it back off the side, but it's
  too small to do that very easily without also accidentally touching
  the top-most app.

  The symptoms for this bug are very similar to those of #1396213:
  booting (a freshly installed wily VM) drops me to the (initramfs)

  be found. Typing "vgchange -a y; exit" at the (initramfs) prompt
  allows the boot to continue normally.

  The reason I'm filing a separate bug is that the discussion of
  #1396213 blames the problem on LVM snapshots and my setup does not
  have a snapshot: it happens on a system freshly installed using d-i,
  on the first reboot after installation (and on all subsequent reboots
  so far). As a result, I am not sure the root cause is the same.

So whatever the problem is in our QML app scrolling is not a problem in

I've moved the general accuracy problem that's specific to Unity8 into
bug 1607223.

This bug is all about certain apps only, and is reproducible in Untiy7.

** Package changed: qtmir (Ubuntu) => qtdeclarative-opensource-src
(Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: qtmir

** Summary changed:

- Touchpad scrolling is disproportionately faster than mouse wheel scrolling
+ Touchpad scrolling in dash and system settings is disproportionately faster
than mouse wheel scrolling

** Description changed:

- Touchpad scrolling is disproportionately faster than mouse wheel
- scrolling in Unity8 (web browser and system settings).
+ Touchpad scrolling in dash and system settings is disproportionately

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1129696] Re: Cannot set config file in /etc/default/ntp

2016-07-28 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
@Robie
thank you for the great explanation.
I agree with you that with these extra details my "I'm not sure" should become
a "lets not add delta" for this.

I also like the suggested workaround - FYI here is a good summary of how to
actually do that:
=>
http://serverfault.com/questions/329596/how-to-override-the-ntp-information-sent-by-dhcp-in-debian

Fortunately with the git commits this can easily be removed from the merge.
Please let men know if you want me to change and push something.

But - waiting for user feedback if we overlook something first.

  I had a need to set a custom config file for ntp. I looked about and found
that I could pass a '-c' option and that options for ntp are set in
/etc/default/ntp in NTPD_OPTS. So I put it in there: NTPD_OPTS='-g -c
/path/to/custom/ntp.conf'. It worked. Until I deployed to another box that was
receiving NTP settings via DHCP. On that box, ntpd exited with an error because
it had received two config files in its arguments. Not good.

  After reading through the init script, I opted to add a new variable
  to /etc/default/ntp specifically for holding a custom config file.
  Attached is a patch that will use that value if DHCP has not created
  its own ntp.conf. If NTP settings were passed via DCHP, then those
  settings will override the custom config file.

running.

Hopefully someone with deeper knowledge of libvirtd/systemctl may be
able to suggest a solution.

Thanks a lot,

so, "-d" is not set by default.

Let me summarize, just in case someone else finds this bugreport while
debugging the situation:

* You should not set "-d" in OPTS
* You don't need "NotifyAccess=all"

But still the dnsmasq-processes are not terminated on stop.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1607185] Re: It's difficult to close the launcher without tapping on something you didn't want to

2016-07-28 Thread Michał Sawicz
... was done explicitly as a fix for bug #1575137, it's the same design
as unity7 - there's no need to "close" the launcher, you just start
interacting with whatever you wanted to interact with.

Bug description:
  It's difficult to close the launcher without tapping on something you
  didn't want to.

  Test case:

It might be possible but you're asking for years of bug reports in all
the apps where such a hack doesn't quite work.

Better to implement grabs as toolkits use them and expect them to work
already.

Bug description:
  This affects vivid and (somewhat recently?) 14.09.

  At some point, apps started to request access to
  org.freedesktop.Accounts for something, but I'm not sure what. It has
  been conjectured in this bug that it is due to vibration settings.
  Filing against ubuntu-system-settings for now, but please feel free to
  move to the correct package.

  This happens with webapps:
  Apr  7 08:42:17 ubuntu-phablet dbus[797]: apparmor="DENIED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/org/freedesktop/Accounts"
interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable" member="Introspect" mask="send"

  Apr  7 08:42:17 ubuntu-phablet dbus[797]: apparmor="DENIED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/org/freedesktop/Accounts"
interface="org.freedesktop.Accounts" member="FindUserById" mask="send"
name="org.freedesktop.Accounts" pid=2632
profile="com.ubuntu.developer.webapps.webapp-facebook_webapp-facebook_1.0.26"
peer_pid=1596 peer_profile="unconfined"

  and QML apps:
  Apr  7 08:43:40 ubuntu-phablet dbus[797]: apparmor="DENIED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/org/freedesktop/Accounts"
interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable" member="Introspect" mask="send"
name="org.freedesktop.Accounts" pid=3377
profile="com.ubuntu.calculator_calculator_1.3.339" peer_pid=1596
peer_profile="unconfined"
  Apr  7 08:43:40 ubuntu-phablet dbus[797]: apparmor="DENIED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/org/freedesktop/Accounts"
interface="org.freedesktop.Accounts" member="FindUserById" mask="send"
name="org.freedesktop.Accounts" pid=3377
profile="com.ubuntu.calculator_calculator_1.3.339" peer_pid=1596
peer_profile="unconfined"

  The following rules allow the requested access:
dbus (send)
 bus=system
 path="/org/freedesktop/Accounts"
 interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.{Introspectable,Properties}"
 member=Introspect
 peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Accounts,label=unconfined),
dbus (send)
 bus=system
 path="/org/freedesktop/Accounts"
 interface="org.freedesktop.Accounts"
 member=FindUserById
 peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Accounts,label=unconfined),
dbus (send)
 bus=system
 path="/org/freedesktop/Accounts/User[0-9]*"
 interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties"
 member=Get
 peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Accounts,label=unconfined),

  However, the above is too lenient and constitutes a privacy leak for
  apps. FindUserById could be used by a malicious app to enumerate
  usernames on multiuser systems and because we can't mediate method
  data with apparmor, the Get() method can be used to obtain any
  information provided by this interface.

  The following can be used to see what can be leaked to a malicious app:
  gdbus introspect --system -d org.freedesktop.Accounts -o
/org/freedesktop/Accounts/User`id -u phablet`

  This can be solved in a couple of ways:
  1. add whatever information the app is trying to access to a new helper
service that only exposes things that the app needs. This could be a single
standalone service, perhaps something from ubuntu-system-settings, that could
expose any number of things-- the current locale, if the locale changed, if the
grid units changed, the vibration settings, etc. Since this service wouldn't
have any sensitive information, you could use standard dbus
properties/Get()/etc
  2. add a new dbus API to an existing service such that apparmor rules can
then be used to allow by method (eg, GetVibration() or something)

  I won't dictate the implementation except to mention that '1' seems
  like something generally useful and I believe that it was something
  the ubuntu-system-settings devs were already looking at for detecting
  locale changes without rebooting.

Well the Unity7 design doesn't apply on a phone because you have a very
small screen and large pointer (a finger). It's harder to avoid the
problem on a phone.

  It's difficult to close the launcher without tapping on something you

  Test case:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1607240] Re: [Xmir Firefox scrolling is too fast (mouse wheel) when run under Unity8 (since Xmir 2:1.18.4-1ubuntu4)

2016-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Good news: Confirmed I can reproduce the bug.

Bad news: The bug only happens in Unity8 and not in Mir demo servers.

What changed:
Xmir 2:1.18.4-1ubuntu4 adds accurate vscroll/touchpad support. So instead of
synthesising vscroll changes of any magnitude into fake button 4/5
press/releases, it now passes the vscroll float value straight down to the app.

This works well in Mir demo servers (with high-resolution touchpads
too), but in Unity8 Xmir ends up sending about 7 button 4/5 events per
mouse wheel tick.

It appears the flaw is in Qt/Unity8 code where a vscroll value of 1.0
(which means one mouse wheel tick) is not correctly maintaining the
vscroll value of 1.0 after it passes through Unity8.

So the Xmir change is correct, but this is at least the third Unity8/Qt
scrolling bug I've seen today. See also bug 1607223 and bug 1605513.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1539158] Re: Unable to pair with in-car hands-free system after OTA-9 update

Time ago I did some tests. When the phone detect a car tried to match it. Now
their names still appear. This is very strange.

  After OTA-9 I started having trouble with my bluetooth connection to the car
hands-free system (no sound, and incoming calls no longer displayed the
number), so I have reset both the car and the phone connections (eg. forgot the
devices).
  Now I can't even pair the phone with the car's system.
  The car finds the phone, and then asks me to enter the code "" to pair
the device, but after a few moments, it just says the connection failed and
asks me to try again. Which fails again.

  It was working fine just before the update.

  Any logs I should post to help debug?

  PS - The car is a 2015 Honda Civic Tourer, if that matters.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1607240] Re: Xmir Firefox scrolling is too fast (mouse wheel) when run under Unity8 (since Xmir 2:1.18.4-1ubuntu4)

2016-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed the wheel vscroll value received by Xmir is exactly 7.0:
   vscroll = mir_pointer_event_axis_value(pev, mir_pointer_axis_vscroll);

So for each mouse wheel tick:
USC sends a vscroll value of +1/-1 to Unity8
Unity8 sends a vscroll value of +7/-7 to apps

In previous versions of Xmir, we would ignore the magnitude and convert
the 7 into 1. But now Xmir does proper smooth scrolling we need to
honour the magnitude. So a value of 7 from Unity8 now results in 7x more
scrolling.

The Xmir change is correct and we need to fix some Untiy8/Qt code
somewhere so that a mouse wheel tick is always vscroll=1.0.

This is intended, as far as I know. The new Edge Tutorial is separated

sure what is the actual implemented behaviour though.

Let's wait for Design to comment

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1605513] Re: Touchpad scrolling in dash and system settings is disproportionately faster than mouse wheel scrolling

2016-07-28 Thread Andrea Bernabei
Doesn't webbrowser use Oxide to handle scrolling? I think it's not going
through Qt's "Flickable".

It could be that it's a "generic Qt apps" behaviour problem.

Daniel, have you found any "pure" Qt app that behaves properly?

  I can only say this with confidence today because I implemented
  accurate smooth scrolling in Xmir yesterday, so I know how it should
  behave.

  It's possible QtMir is overreacting to the large number of events that
  touchpads generate compared to a mouse wheel, without taking into
  account the scroll magnitude of each one is smaller.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1509562] Re: no icons for menu, folders, directories, files

2016-07-28 Thread jvh
so the current workaround is:
* install libqt5libqgtk2
* install systemsettings
* install kde-config-gtk-style
*... And then do what Trogel #16 wrote:

** Xfce Settings >> Appearance >> Icons -> "elementary Xfce darker"
(That's what I want to have, wherever possible.)

** Xfce Settings >> KDE System Settings >> Icons >> Icons >> Theme -> "Oxygen"
(It seems that e.g. Konqueror still uses this setting. If an icon is missing,
it seems to fall back to "Breeze" (hard-coded?). Setting this option to some
"elementary Xfce" theme results in a mix of elementary and Breeze icons when
Konqueror is used as file manager. For instance, the view mode icons in the
toolbar are Breeze-like. This looks surprising. Therefore I prefer to see
Konqueror fully in Oxygen. I wonder whether this setting becomes irrelevant for
Konqueror, once that application is also migrated to Qt5's
QIcon::fromTheme(...).)

** Xfce Settings >> KDE System Settings >> Application Style >> GNOME
Application Style (GTK)
- Icon theme -> "elementary Xfce darker"
- Fallback theme -> "Oxygen"
(This fallback seems to be used by Kate for the search and replace icons. I
wonder if they are possibly missing in the "elementary Xfce" theme.)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1607240] Re: Xmir Firefox scrolling is too fast (mouse wheel) when run under Unity8 (since Xmir 2:1.18.4-1ubuntu4)

2016-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Found the solution!

System Settings > Mouse & Touchpad >
Slide the second (unlabelled) slider all the way left, and then one notch right.

Turns out that unlabelled slider is the wheel scroll speed. Setting it
one notch from the left correctly reduces the wheel speed from 7.0 to
1.0 as Mir clients expect.

Figured out the second slider is the mouse wheel speed. It's just not
labelled.

- Mouse & Touchpad settings in Unity8's System Settings have no effect
+ Mouse & Touchpad second slider is not labelled

** Description changed:

- Although the default speed since Mir 0.21.0 was released is great, it's

- nothing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1539158] Re: Unable to pair with in-car hands-free system after OTA-9 update

2016-07-28 Thread Konrad Zapałowicz
Hey,

I'll try to help a bit here.

First as for the unknown or unwanted entries on the paired devices lists
[and such] you can try to remove them from the bluetoothctl level.

) enable developers mode & connect it via usb cable
) login with adb shell to the deivce
) type $ bluetoothctl
) then type: devices - to list the known devices
) to remove type: remove $BDADDR - where BDADDR is a Bluetooth address of the
device [not it's name]

Second we are in the of releasing the newest bluez 5.41 which is now in
silo 37. If you are familiar with installing silos on your device you
can try it out and check if it improves anything. It includes fixes for
link management and pairing therefore there is a chance [although not
certain] that there might be joy.

If unsure please ask.

Best,
Konrad

  Now I can't even pair the phone with the car's system.
  The car finds the phone, and then asks me to enter the code "" to pair
the device, but after a few moments, it just says the connection failed and
asks me to try again. Which fails again.

  It was working fine just before the update.

  Any logs I should post to help debug?

  PS - The car is a 2015 Honda Civic Tourer, if that matters.

  QSysInfo::productType(): "ubuntu"
  QSysInfo::productVersion(): "16.04"
  QSysInfo::prettyProductName(): "Ubuntu 16.04 LTS"

  However, in a confined environment (e.g. bq Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu
  Edition / 15.04 OTA-11) the following _incorrect_ values are provided
  by QSysInfo:

  QSysInfo::productType(): "unknown"
  QSysInfo::productVersion(): "unknown"
  QSysInfo::prettyProductName(): "Linux 3.4.67"

  I suppose it's because QSysInfo tries to (or would need to) access
  such files on the filesystem that are blocked by AppArmor, like /etc
  /os-release or such.

  Ideally, QSysInfo::productVersion() should return not only "15.04" on
  an Ubuntu Touch device, but also the OTA release number. So it should
  be more like: "15.04 OTA-11". That's because "15.04" alone doesn't
  tell much about the actual Ubuntu Touch OS release installed on a
  mobile device.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1607240] Re: Unity8 default mouse wheel speed is 7.0 (it should be 1.0)

2016-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears we have flaws (incorrect multiplication) in both QtMir and
our default System Settings:

1. QtMir is multiplying vscroll events by 15, and forgetting to un-
multiply them before passing them down to clients.

2. Our default System Settings (the unlabelled second slider under Mouse
& Touchpad) seems to have a default scale of around 0.5. So the vscroll
values of 15 from QtMir get converted to +7/-7 and that's what Mir apps
receive in Unity8 instead of the expected +1/-1.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1607283] [NEW] 1.3~pre2ubuntu2 regression: trusted.gpg.d not read any more from apt root

This can be reproduced using the attached sandbox dir. Unpack it in

FTR, some test cases (like test_install_old_packages) were my fault, and
fixed in http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~apport-
hackers/apport/trunk/revision/3091 . But others like
test_install_package_from_a_ppa should work, they install the GPG key in
the current apport version already.

Bug description:

  I can only say this with confidence today because I implemented
  accurate smooth scrolling in Xmir yesterday, so I know how it should
  behave.

  It's possible QtMir is overreacting to the large number of events that
  touchpads generate compared to a mouse wheel, without taking into
  account the scroll magnitude of each one is smaller.

2016-07-28 Thread Timo Jyrinki
For the record, it seems the we will want Mir backend with the naming
more like qinputdeviceinfo_mir.cpp/h, to match patch set 26 and what
Unity 8's internal copy of the _linux backend currently, instead of the
current patch's qinputmanager/_udev/_mir. So the Mir patch would need
redoing.

readonly property bool isConnected: menuData && menuData.actionState

^^ this means "if action state is true" therefore the respective
indicator-network action tells us the AP is connected. Nothing we can do
about this in unity8 and as the comment #10 says, it also happens in
system settings, therefore this bug is not specific to unity8.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1588994] Re: Location not working since OTA-11 on BQ 4.5

2016-07-28 Thread Tony Pursell
Updated to OTA 12. Location icon now shows, but location still doesn't
not work for things like Google Maps, Here maps and Nearby scope.

  unity8 autopilot failures (44 failed)

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  When running through the u8 autopilot testing on a fresh install
  (krillin, system image 392), I encountered 44 errors in autopilot.
  (full log attached). Followed instructions here:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Testing/Autopilot/TestRunners

  u8 autopilot testing is recommended during the mir release process,
  we'll probably start doing the u8 manual integration tests until the
  AP tests get back into order.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1602655] Re: The openssl s390x assembly pack is not used

2016-07-28 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Some updates on this ticket: openssl-1.1 in debian experimental has asm
optimisations enabled for the debian-s390x build configuration. Enabling
similar configuration change in 1.0.2 results in the package failing to
build from source - shared libraries appear to be missing for an unknown
reason. Investigating further.
