I'm translating the survey to Bulgarian and I reached question Q3, which I believe needs clarification, especially considering the preceding questions. *Q3. What is your user access level? (Please choose all that apply) * Having asked the editor to first list ALL applicable versions of Wikipedia where they contribute, and then the ONE where they contribute primarily, its obscure then which of both aspects does Q3 exactly refer to. For instance, I may contribute to both Bulgarian and English Wikipedia (Bulgarian being the primary one) and I may have a basic account on the English WP, while being a sysop on Bulgarian WP. Then, how am I supposed to answer the question? :) Hence, the question should either stipulate that the answer is given for the *primarily edited *version of Wikipedia, OR it shall allow the user to provide their * maximal *user access level ever reached. I think both answers would be helpful for the survey, or even one of them, as long as all users understand the question uniformly. I would like to ask again that you take a look at the translation page for the 2011 board elections, here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2011/Translation Many languages have been translated (thanks to the people who have helped with that!), but there are still some pages that were translated in the 2009 elections that aren't done this year. As I said previously, we have tried to keep the pages as similar as possible to the 2009 ones, so it should not be too big an effort to translate if your language was translated in 2009. Additionaly, candidate submissions are set to be started in three days (May 2), and that is usually the biggest bulk of the translation work. As the candidates come in I will post here once the candidates are verified to be eligible, so that you will get notifications on when they can be translated. One should not start translating before they are verified, because in my experience quite a few people submit their candidacies without actually being eligible. [Translators-l] Translation coordinators for fundraiser needed
Hi everyone, The 2011 fundraiser is soon coming up, and we want it to be a success in every way, including localization. You may remember Casey posting an e-mailhttp://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/translators-l/2011-June/001716.htmlabout a survey for translators in June. I want to thank all of you who participated in the survey, we got many responses from people who are interested in helping. This year we want to build teams for the different languages, with each team having one or two coordinators to make sure the translations are done in time and with good quality. We have coordinators for many languages already, but there are still some big languages that have no coordinators, and we could need more volunteers doing that. These languages include: - Dutch - *French* - German - *Hindi* - Italian - *Japanese* - Portuguese - Spanish These are the most important languages where coordinators are needed. For the bold ones we don't have any coordinators yet, for the others we have one. If you are interested in coordinating one of these languages, please e-mail me. If you want to help coordinate another language or help out with translation or proofreading, do the same. [Translators-l] Fundraising 2011: New page up for translation
Hi, I'm sorry I've been neglecting this list when announcing new pages for the fundraiser translations. Thanks to Minh Huy Trần Nguyễn for reminding me that I hadn't done that. There is one new page up for translation today; a small but important one. It is the banner texts and landing page headers. You can see the English version here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2011/Banners_and_LPs/en and type in your language code to start translating it. There will soon be more core messages to translate as well, because we will be using an expanded system that allows for more currencies and payment methods. {{ls|zh-hans|...}}.

[Just ignore this if you don't speak Portuguese] Olá, This is a request for a European/African Portuguese translation. The fundraiser team will be doing a test in some African countries next week, using the Isaac appeal. Therefore they would like to have that translated into Portuguese. As far as I understandhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Portuguese#Local_norms_and_norms_of_reference, written Portuguese in Africa is usually the same as European Portuguese, therefore it would be preferrable if this could be written in the European standard. [Translators-l] Survey results and Meta translation plan

Hello everybody, The folks in the i18n team has made a great new tool for us to use, which is live on Meta right now: [[Special:TranslatorSignuphttps://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:TranslatorSignup]]. What it does is that it lets you be notified when there are new pages for translations. You sign up on that page, specifying what languages you are willing to translate into, how you would like to be notified (e-mail, Meta talk page or talk page on another wiki), and how often you would like to be notified. This will make it much easier to target people by language, so when we have something that only needs to be translated into, say, Romanian, only people who speak Romanian will get the notification about that. Fundraising stuff and other inefficient WMF tasks (if any) should be done by the WMF itself now. Translate extension stuff should be handled by whoever is/wants to be translation admin as a Meta-Wiki process. The main task of the Transcom seems to be moving the old translations to the new system and fix all broken old translation requests but you imply that this will not be one of its tasks (otherwise they'd need to know the old system). In short, we should work on https://meta.wikimedia.org/** wiki/Meta:Translate_extensionhttps://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meta:Translate_extension and make sure that Meta actually uses the Translate extension (currently only a fraction of the wiki uses it and it's a huge mess, worsened by the murder of [[TR]]). Nemo You are right, moving over pages that need it is something the committee should be involved in. Forgot to include that in the previous e-mail. The thought here is to have several volunteers who are capable of handling all things related to page translation with the Translate extension, who can help Foundation staffers, Wikimania volunteers, chapters and whoever need it when they have pages that need translation. It would only make sense that all committee members are translation admins, and all translation admins are committee members. Maybe it should just be called translation administrators group or something, that is something that can be discussed. Either way, the purpose is to assist people who are putting up translations, as well as translators having questions. I 100 % agree about transitioning pages to the Translate extension, though I don't think it's a huge mess. the date the same, but change the codes if necessary.

The {{formatnum:6}} makes sense, I can add that in, (as I said earlier
I'm happy for people to change it for their own numerical system, but that
would certainly be easier). I don't know about a good way to call the
formate date function sadly :-/ I tried to pick the 'most' universal option
but it certainly isn't perfect and I completely agree with you that a
format date format would be useful.

MediaWiki offers {{formatnum:6}} for this purpose, it is easy to infer
where it is in the translation if you intend to change it. However June is
also the 6th month of the year (same day number) and you may wonder which
field is the day part if you don't know if the date uses d;m;y or m:d;y
formatting order (some languages dont really have names for Gregorian
dates, but append a speific suffix to numbers to indicate if this is a
year, month or day, such as Chinese).
A very small script will generate the formated dates that are then easy
to update in translations, even if you don't want to use templates for that
(because templates are wiki-dependant and their name vary).
But things would be even easier if all wikis had a parserfunction for
formatting dates given a matching language code (if the format is unknown
for that language, just use the ISO 8601 format yyy-mm-dd which is not
ambiguous in all existing languages, even if it is not the most usual
format for that language.
I just hope that one day we'll have a parser function like
{{formatdate:2014-06-06|ymd|language-code}} that will format the date using
the 3 fields (not padded with zero if not needed, but not rounded to 2
digits with the appropriate order, suffixes and separators, and possibly
their names; all in the appropriate script)
CLDR data has this info and there's even a demo in the Unicode CLDR
website.

The Legal team will be announcing later this week (currently planned for
Wednesday) the start of a 30 day notice period that the privacy policy will
be changing. This is the privacy policy that was discussed over a multi
month period on wiki ( https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy )
and was recently approved by the board. You can find the banner text to
translate (using the translate extension) at

If possible (transliteration is fine) we want to keep the day part of
the date ( 6 ) as a number so that, if the announcement date gets pushed
back for some reason or another, we can adjust the official starting date
without affecting the translations much.
Michelle is still finishing the blog post itself but the plan is to have
it available for translation as well so that over the course of the month
we can get it up in as many translations as possible.

I think they serve different purposes, Vira. The new link links to the interface in Special:Translate, which has more features (showing documentation, machine translations and translations in other languages), while the down-arrow links to the message itself.
