Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
I don't see a need to change to Debian, it works just fine the way it is.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
I thought ubuntu was based off of debian unstable though...
Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
Ubuntu is based off Debian testing. It is a true 'fork' that is updated every 6 months, as opposed to Trisquel's deblobbing effort of Ubuntu. There's no point basing directly off testing/unstable as they constantly change as new packages are added and library versions often change. To this extent, it would not be stable (i.e. package updates are unpredictable) although it still probably be fine for daily use. Stable is very good so that is the way to go. I definitely agree about waiting to next release though. > oh and I prefer an option to have an admin password and to have my username not appear on the screen automatically and that hibernate is actually an option... Firstly you can add a root account by running "sudo passwd root". Not in the graphical installer, true, but it can easily be done. Secondly if you install lightdm-gtk-greeter (default in lightdm, in non-GNOME Debian) and switch the greeter to that in the configuration files then you get what I think you are probably referring to. These are minor things though. Personally I see using Debian as simpler due to saving development time more than anything. I also found more problems in Ubuntu. But this is personal problems that hardly ever appear for the vast majority of users.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Has anyone made it the Libreboot X200 work with Trisquel 7?
The first question the op wrote is a big YES! the second one the op wrote would have been a no although its not relevant now because it probably does work according to vita_cell.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
The only thing I don't know about though, is if debian lts is better supported than ubuntu in updating packages... Actually though... I had a thought... its just a foolish idea probably, but maybe base trisquel off of debian unstable or debian testing. that is just my idea though and it wouldn't be something I would recommend now. all that aside though I prefer trisquel being based off of debian. Although, I would wait till debian 9 or 10 to make such a jump if possible.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
I use both, but I had some problems with Debian, it has no aMule packages, but I installed aMule manually. And ssh is very painful make to work, in Trisquel ssh works out of the box. The good of Debian, is that it is compiled for ARM and PowerPC(but Ubuntu based PowerPC distros work much better), and Debian website is very very clear for download packages. Ubuntu website is a bit confusing when downloading some packages.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Network doesn't seem to work with generic kernels in Trisquel 7
I'm not running Trisquel anymore, but I had a generic kernel and my ath9k_htc adapter worked fine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
Another vote for Debian :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
I don't get the notion that Debian is better than Ubuntu. Both Debian and Ubuntu segregate libre from proprietary software (though I think Debian's definition of what constitutes "free" is better), and both generally have a good selection of software... except Ubuntu has a better selection because of PPAs. Debian is not more "stable" than Ubuntu LTS in any sense of the word; it doesn't crash any less (neither of them normally crash), and it doesn't change any less (neither of them change except for bugfixes). Also, I don't think providing a GNU FSDG-compliant version of Debian is as useful as providing a GNU FSDG-compliant version of Ubuntu. Debian's only problems at this point are in its documentation, really. Ubuntu actually ships Linux with blobs, and with the non-free repository enabled, by default.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Has anyone made it the Libreboot X200 work with Trisquel 7?
Could an admin change the title of this post from: "Has anyone made it the Libreboot X200 work with Trisquel 7?" to something like: "Has anyone made the Libreboot X200 fingerprint scanner work with Trisquel 7?" OP explained this is what he meant to ask. With the current title, it's confusing. Thanks in advance!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Network doesn't seem to work with generic kernels in Trisquel 7
I once had lots of trouble with network on Trisquel, after a netinstall. I believe that I did choose the generic kernel too when the installer prompted it. I put it down to some nutty hardware problem and nuked the installation. So I never found out what was wrong.

> (I bought my Libreboot X200 from Minifree and they supplied me with a X200 with webcam and fingerprint sensor so I have no choice). You can remove them if this is something you would rather not have. For example to remove the webcam you take off the front panel of the LCD and then remove the webcam. It also lets you remove Bluetooth.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedom Fridays (development updates), 3
As soon as the alpha comes out, I'm installing it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedom Fridays (development updates), 3
I was thinking the same thing. The panel transparency is too good. Personally, I was hoping for either XFCE or MATE. I like them both equally well. He has to move to something permanent, and flashback isn't. And it has to be something that doesn't demand compositing because Linux-libre doesn't support all video cards. I like the decision.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Has anyone made it the Libreboot X200 work with Trisquel 7?
Sorry guys my mistake, I forgot some key words here :-( The right title for my post should have been: "Has anyone made it the Libreboot X200 fingerprint sensor work with Trisquel 7?" My problem is with the X200 fingerprint sensors.
[Trisquel-users] Network doesn't seem to work with generic kernels in Trisquel 7
Can anyone confirm this? https://trisquel.info/en/issues/20741 Thanks!
Re: [Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
Heh, this post ^^ Debian FTW :D
Re: [Trisquel-users] Has anyone made it the Libreboot X200 work with Trisquel 7?
Works fine. I don't understand the problem. The X200 from Minifree comes equipped with the Trisquel 7.0 as its default pre-installed operating system. I am also surprised at the mention of people discussing whether the Minifree is the right choice, but the OP doesn't want to discuss that so maybe I will just say that I have never had a problem with the Minifree or its choice of Trisquel as operating system.
[Trisquel-users] How about a survey to measure how much Trisquel user prefer that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian
Hi everyone I thought that it couold be a good idea to create a survey to ask Trisquel users if they that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu instead of Debian. I perfectly understan that Trisquel is a Quidam project and that he wants to base it on Ubuntu but I think tha could be interesting to know the "general consensum" as a community. Trisquel could be based on Jesse (main branch only), use Debian kernel wich divide already free from non-free firmware, plus official backports (main branch only) which will provide newer kernel. This could speed up new release a lot because Trisquel team will have to provide only helpers for packages such as Firefox or Icedeove in order to avoid non-free adds-on suggested. It surely will be quicker than cleaning up ubuntu code. What do you think about it? Thanks in advance V.P. PS = Please don't reply with the "There is Gnewsense already" statement becasue they are far too obsolete at time of writing.

[Trisquel-users] Has anyone made it the Libreboot X200 work with Trisquel 7?
Hi I would like to know if anyone succeded in making the Libreboot X200 work with Trisquel 7. Please leave apart comments about IF you agree in using such a device (I bought my Libreboot X200 from Minifree and they supplied me with a X200 with webcam and fingerprint sensor so I have no choice). Thanks in advance V.P.

I had intended to use it as an example in one of my comments. That is really strange thing of me...
