2017-12-02 Thread shiretoko
Same here. I'm using nordvpn + networkmanager + openvpn as described in the
tutorial link given by davidgil.

It works flawlessly.

If you want to make sure if everything is tunneled and there are no leaks,
you can use this little bash script that has the name "firewall.sh" on my
computer. I don't know much about ufw but it seems to do the job:

-
#!/bin/bash

sudo ufw reset
sudo ufw default deny incoming
sudo ufw default deny outgoing
sudo ufw allow out on tun0 from any to any
sudo ufw enable

-

If you want to undo the firewall rules, I use a script called
"unfirewall.sh":

-

#!/bin/bash

sudo ufw reset
sudo ufw default allow incoming
sudo ufw default allow outgoing
sudo ufw enable

Do I just change the repository paths to the Trisquel 8 ones and then run:

sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

?

Good to hear. But whatever the problem is with both Uruk 2 and Trisquel 8
betas, it needs to be fixed before the final releases. Uruk and Trisquel are
both supposed to be noob-friendly distros, and official release that can't be
installed without command line wizardry is just embarrassing ;)

release candidate? If so, I will do that and post any notes here in the next
couple of days.

Re: [Trisquel-users] how to upgrade to belenos from 6.0

2017-12-02 Thread strypey
I know this doesn't help you right now, but I strongly recommend have
separate partitions for / (root - your OS) and /home (your user files). That
way you can install a new OS without needing an external drive, although when
you're making any major changes to your OS (including version upgrades), it's
a good idea to back up anything really essential somehow anyway.

15-20GB is plenty for your / partition (unless you install a lot of games and
other large programs). The rest of the drive can be /home.

Dear Trisquel users,

I've read it might be safer, privacy-wise, to use a VPN.
1 But which one?
2 Is the software you have to download Free Software?

Example: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/, you

work with Trisquel.

Do people use Trisquel with VPN?

Thank you.

Here's hoping ZAReason, ThinkPenguin, et. al. follow suit and widen the field

[Trisquel-users] Re : Is Paypal compatible with software freedom?

2017-12-02 Thread lcerf
For the nth time: the seller does not need the buyers name. Thanks to GNU
Taler, the seller will get paid and the buyer can prove she is the one who
paid (for instance at the nearby shop where the good was shipped) without
ever revealing her identity. Except for sellers making additional money by
selling the customer personal information (an unethical activity), sellers do
not want to manage such sensitive information anyway. It is a cost (security
audits and so on).

So you can keep on writing about "*if* seller gets buyers name and address"
but those are no argument against Taler. It would be like saying that the
Tor browser does not make users anonymous because "*if* a Tor user writes
'hello, I am John Doe'" then he is not anonymous anymore: that is true but
that user does not have to identity himself and the entailed loss of
anonymity is in no way Tor's fault.

Hi Heather,

Thanks for sharing; your post makes a lot of sense. I always read your posts
with interest because you make matters resonate on a personal level and help
to put things in perspective.

This is the first time I hear the story of RMS having to say that someone he
loved had just died in order to feel that he would be allowed to grieve.

I can see that one of the most powerful antidotes for those feelings is to
become proactive and do something constructive about it. I read it from
SuperTramp's response and I read it in ADFENO's post as well. Being able to
focus one's energies positively is a way to overcome the frustration and I
suppose also to find people who think alike.

Finally, I don't know how old you are or anything else about you, so take
these as words thrown to the wind...as long as we're alive there's always
time to turn life around. Like any big task, the most difficult bit is
getting started and managing to keep focus long enough for things to start
changing. I've seen it happen before. The worst fear about saying it's too
late (or you're too old) is to find yourself saying it again 5, 10, 15 years
later and realizing that it was in fact quite early.

I don't mean to lecture you. You always sound intelligent and capable, please
don't take the above as condescension.

That's your problem. You're conflating e-cash with payment services. They are
not the same. You physically cannot have "purchase protection" with e-cash.
It's impossible.

I'm not going to continue arguing with a brick wall at this point. If you
want to reject GNU Taler because you don't understand what it is, go right
ahead and keep using credit cards and PayPal. No one is stopping you.

2017-12-02 Thread svhaab
Stallman answered, fsf will endorse no crowd funding regarding a libre
software microatx raptor mainboard and cpu. Because such mainboard is nothing
special. That is an odd reason considering, there is no new
libre software computer for sale, which equals an intel duo core cpu in
performance and costs below 1000usd if a

cpu is added.

I stop further steps and have informed raptor so.

Yes, I had not thought about it this way, but it is indeed like any other
abusive relationship.

Thanks a lot for your thoughtful answer.

The capacity of RMS to continue his activism over such a long period is
something worth learning about. I like his response.

There's a book by Hillary Rettig (a friend of RMS I believe) called "Lifelong
Activist." I've read parts of it and it is a recommended read.

Which ebay specifically does not support. Then why mention it?

>"Purchase protection". has. NOTHING. to do with GNU Taler

Nor does my post say. In my post I claim a gnutaler payment system with no
purchase
protection is such a drawback compared to payment systems, which provide a
purchase
protection, that I believe it will significantly limit how many will use
gnutaler.

None of us can determine if my claim is correct. It would require a marketing
research.
You engage in odd arguments, saying if you do not trust seller then you
cannot trust paypal's

purchase protection.
You can get into a dispute with a big known company as well. If you have
paypal purchase
protection and you believe you rightfully have a claim against seller, two
entities must
fail before you have to file a complaint to a consumer authority. Seller and
paypal.
And I think paypal will have a more objective view on a dispute than seller,
because

paypal is not part of the dispute.
You are welcome to have a list of sellers you trust and are prepared to buy
items from

with no purchase protection. I think a lot of buyers will not act like that.

>it's completely irrelevant to GNU Taler

In a gnutaler video they are asked if gnutaler provides a purchase
protection. Gnutaler

answers no and says if someone wants to, they can make a purchase protection
service. I know of no such service and I think gnutaler would be better of,
if

a purchase protection would be integrated as an option in a gnutaler payment.
If there is no purchase protection, preferable integrated in gnutaler, when
gnutaler is introduced, then it will have a significantly negative impact on
how many
will use gnutaler. I think gnutaler wants to be widely used and wants to be
prefered

to other payment systems.
That is why I think it is relevant for gnutaler.
You are unable to react on my claim.
People who demands purchase protection will select paypal over gnutaler. The
number
of people who demands purchase protection is big. Therefore it would be a
mistake

to introduce gnutaler, with no purchase protection ready.

>there are equally good laws to protect you if you're using cash. So if
you're OK with the trust required to use credit cards, it's logically
inconsistent to not be OK with the trust required to use cash or e-cash

Hi Calher,

* Parabola is available for i686, so you can use on your X60:
https://www.parabola.nu/news/continuation-of-i686-support/

* Parabola's community is always very helpful (try #parabola on Freenode).
Also, # of developers definitely > Trisquel (not that this should be a
competition).

* I find almost every package I need on parabola repos. Anything that is not
there is usually available in AUR (just need to carefully check licenses and
makepkg files). Never had a problem with "your-freedom" either. Can you give
some examples?

* I don't follow things closely, but it does not seem to me that Parabola
devs are lazy at all. Quite the contrary. Take a look at
https://labs.parabola.nu. All bugs I've encountered are quickly resolved.

Respectfully, your comments about Parabola sound quite harsh. I wonder what
the backstory is.

As to the other distros, I have limited experience. I find Debian to be solid
and can easily be configured to whatever my needs are.

Trisquel is great and better for most gnu/linux newcomers. I enjoy Trisquel's
community too, but that is unrelated to which other distros I play or work
with, or whether I even use Trisquel.

Cheers,
fbit

I phrased it poorly. Paypal and credit cards likely do profiling of the

But the profiling the seller does if seller gets buyers name and address,
gnutaler cannot stop.
