[TV orNotTV] Pumping the Peacock, and Installing it on the Stick

2020-09-17 Thread PGage
NBC is trying to hype subscriptions to Peacock by putting the last (2?)
hours of the US Open there (maybe this is only around 1 & 2.).

I hate the Peacock App (almost impossible to avoid commercials) especially
when accessing through my Xfinity cable box (very slow, very clunky). But I
did want to make sure I could watch the end of Tiger Woods round 2 (maybe
also the final round) when he will start in the afternoon.

This motivated me to side load the Peacock App on my Amazon Fire Stick, in
part hoping for a better interface. I forget now who, but someone here was
interested in how I did this for HBOMax, so posting link below with
directions I followed for Peacock, which was easy and successful. And the
interface is better than going through Xfinity, so I will be watching
Colombo and (inferior) Law and Order reruns on the Stick.

A friend and former (younger) African-American colleague of mine just

RE: [TV orNotTV] Chicago sports-radio host out after dissing ESPN's Maria Taylor

2020-09-17 Thread Doug Fields
McNeil has apparently never actually seen any of the outfits worn to an adult
film awards show. Taylor looked nice. Sure, a little more stylish than the
conservative clothes worn by a lot of other female sideline reporters, but
certainly nothing too risqué for network TV. She doesn’t need to apologize for
being attractive and dressing the part.

before the transition to the Late Show.

This.  CBS has a long-standing policy under which if live primetime programming
runs long on a weeknight, Colbert and British Jimmy slip and affiliates are
given their full 35 minute news window (and usually a little extra to round up
to the nearest minute).  The timings they sent last night do indeed show a
revised start time for Colbert of 11:37:00.

Re: [TV orNotTV] ACM Awards overrun question

2020-09-17 Thread Doug Fields
Tampa got the full show, including cold open, at the regularly-scheduled time.
I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Subject: [TV orNotTV] ACM Awards overrun question

Hi,

When I tuned in the DC affiliate to watch Stephen tonight, the anchor indicated
we would join him in progress. We ended up missing very little, the cold open
plus half of the credit sequence. Easily picked up tomorrow.

I'm assuming that the ACM Awards ran a little over. It did strike me as weird
that the local affiliate would join in progress when tonight's Late Show was
new. Did anyone else in the Eastern and Central time zones have this happen?
I'm kind of thinking the local affiliate called an audible, missed a switch or
something.

David
