FYI- The most recent Judge John Hodgman podcast featured a dispute about a
dented car door. One of those in the “courtroom” was a recent Jeopardy
champion who spoke briefly about his time on the show (one of the final
weeks with Alex Trebek).

Same here. We all got on well, but I don’t remember seeing any of them at
O’Brien’s that night. Then again, I shot a Friday show, and perhaps by that
time, they’ve all but scattered to the four winds.

We also didn't get together as a group after our taping, although we were all
friendly with one another (I'm still FB friends with eight or nine of the
people at our taping).  Dad, Angela and I ended up dining at the glamorous
Olive Garden at the mall across the street from the hotel.

But things were also getting weird that week with Covid--the topic of
conversation at breakfast the next morning was contingency plans for getting
home should an air travel shutdown occur--so not getting together didn't really
seem that odd.

I have some friends who were on "America Says" a couple months ago and won the
bonus round - I assume eventually, they're going to run through every possible
combination of people in Southern California.

I was set to be a contestant on "Master Minds" with Brooke Burns back in
February 2020, but I discovered a couple days before my tape date that I knew
someone who was working as a researcher on the show.

I hope it was obvious that I was being extremely tongue-in-cheek in suggesting
Larry Elder.

In the late 1990s, when I was a runner in Hollywood, I quite enjoyed both

mean… people who disagreed weren’t “the enemy” back then.

When Barack Obama emerged, politics in media turned nasty. I don’t blame
Obama for it, but his rise to prominence was a clear tipping point. There
were always Rush Limbaughs and even Wally Georges (I adored Wally’s TV
show, by the way), but they were the exception, not the rule.

All this is my way of saying Larry Elder was a good host once, and 20 years
ago he might’ve gotten my vote. But now he’s just a bitter, angry old man,
and I have no stomach for that in politics anymore.

Re: [TV orNotTV] And the new “Jeopardy!” host is rumored to be…

2021-09-17 Thread Jim Ellwanger
Dave mentioned Brooke Burns, who hosted GSN's "The Chase" and is now hosting
GSN's "Master Minds." (The host of ABC's version is Sara Haines, probably best
known for "The View.")

GSN's other originals are hosted by a variety of people you've never heard of
(such as Dylan Lane on "Chain Reaction") and people who you may have heard of,
but aren't capital-letter Game Show Hosts like most of the people on Dave's
list (Joey Fatone, "Common Knowledge"; John Michael Higgins, "America Says").

Come to think of it, a lot of the people on Dave's list got their start on
radio... Larry Elder for "Jeopardy!" host?

Right, its not that he was so bad *though I thought he was less good than

I think some, like Mr. Wallace and myself, would simply say he comes across as
being up to no good.  While technically separate from his ability to do the job
(which is certainly in the top third of the guest hosts, IMO), it makes it hard
for me to want to watch the show with him behind the podium.

Could this be some penny-pinching nonsense, with Sony trying to get two jobs
for the price of one (maybe one and a half)?  Because this guy has the name
recognition of a stock photo and the warmth of wilted celery.  He comes across
about as sincerely as old Les Nessman did in his acting roles.
