TYJP: August Upcoming Events Schedule

2002-08-03 Thread mike0164
Title: TYJP: August Upcoming Events Schedule

Shalom everyone!

We had a wonderfully successful Board/Planning meeting this past Wednesday; we have scheduled an exciting Fall and Early Winter for everyone. The new schedule can be found below. We also thought of some other events (Symphony in the Park, Movie in the Park, Tour of Historical Site, Trip to Ashboro Zoo, and Pool Party), but either could not find a volunteer to lead the event, or could not find a date for the event. If you are willing to host one of these events, please contact Michael Cohen at [EMAIL PROTECTED]; otherwise, we will keep these items on our list for the Spring Timeframe.

For this coming week, I just received the Schmooze and Views information, and you can find it in this note. Dont forget: You only have a few more days to RSVP for the August 11th Wet n Wild Day at Emerald Point Water Park; all the wonderful details can be found below.

On that note, in this installment of the TYJP events newsletter, please find detailed information for the following:
Wednesday, August 7, 2002: Schmooze and Views
Sunday, August 11, 2002: Wet n Wild Day at Emerald Pointe Water Park(RSVPs Required)
Sunday, August 18, 2002: Joint Mosaic/TYJP Learn to Scuba Party(RSVPs Required)

Mark your calendars for these other events; more information will follow in subsequent Emails.
Thursday, August 15, 2002: Happy Hour in Chapel
Thursday, September 19, 2002: Happy Hour in Raleigh
Sunday, September 29, 2002: Joint TYJP/Mosaic JewBowl Football followed by another Football Spectator event.
Sunday, October 6, 2002: Swing Dancing at Cliftons on Newton
Sunday, October 20, 2002: State Fair
Thursday, October 17, 2002: Happy Hour
Sunday, October 27, 2002: Brunch at Weaver Street
Saturday, November 9, 2002: Poker Night
Sunday, November 10, 2002: Crafts for Charity
Thursday, November 14, 2002: Happy Hour
Thursday, December 5, 2002: Chanukah Happy Hour
 Wednesday, December 18, 2002: Board/Planning Meeting
 Wednesday, December 25, 2002: Game Day/Night

Dont forget that Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur begin early this year (September 6 and September 15). This is the reason nothing is planned the first two weeks of September.

Schmooze and Views:

When: Wednesday, August 7, 2002
Time: Meet eat at 6:30, slide show at 7:00
Where: Know Book Store Deli, 2520 Fayetteville Street, Durham (a few blocks south of NCCU)

Tom Stern and Tema Okun will show slides and share observations from their visit to the West Bank at the end of May. The Durham couple had the opportunity to tour many of the cities now in the news before the current incursion and month-long 24-hour curfew made travel there virtually impossible, including Ramallah, Jenin, Nablus and Bethlehem, as well as East Jerusalem. They also were able to meet with many people, both Israeli and Palestinian, who generously shared their experiences living and working in the West Bank..

For more information, please contact Erika Kaye at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Wet n Wild Day at Emerald Pointe Water Park:

When: Sunday, August 11, 2002
Time: Meet at the Emerald Pointe at 10:30 AM; leave various locations accordingly.
Where: Wet n Wild Emerald Pointe Water Park, Greensboro, NC

Join TYJP for an end of summer celebration at Emerald Pointe Water Park in Greensboro, NC. Wet 'n Wild, the Carolinas largest and most exhilarating water park, is the perfect summer getaway, with dozens of ways to beat the heat, from thrilling water slides to relaxing rides for all ages. For more specific information regarding Emerald Pointe, please refer to their web site:
 http://www.emeraldpointe.com

If anyone is interested after spending a full day at the Park, we plan to go to one of the many eating establishments in the area. We plan to leave the park around 5:30 PM and get to one of the eateries by 6:00 PM. More information will be forthcoming, and will be based upon feedback from interested parties.

Since Emerald Pointe is approximately 90 minutes from the Triangle, we will be attempting to set-up carpools from the various Triangle areas. Please RSVP with Michael Cohen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) by August 7 for this event, and please indicate:
 1. Where are you planning to come from (Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, High Point)
 2. Do you wish to join a carpool to Greensboro.
 3. Do you mind driving a carpool to Greensboro.
 4. Are you planning to join us for dinner afterwards, or do you plan to return early.
 5. Please also include your telephone numbers.

If at least 15 people attend this event, we can receive a group rate of $19 (regularly $24.95). Otherwise, we will attempt to find other means for a discount. Other costs include $5.00/car for parking, and a locker rental fee of $7.00 (of which $2 is a refundable key deposit); we generally share one locker among many people (for shoes, shirts

There will be no Schmooze and Views the first week of July due to its proximity to July 4th. The regular first-Wednesday-of-the-monthschedule will resume in August.

Contact Josh Fraimow at [EMAIL PROTECTED] with ideas for discussion topics, places to meet, and if you'd like to host.

4th of July Picnic Fireworks at Regency Park:

Bring whatever you would like to eat and drink in your picnic basket. A blanket, some chairs and bug spray will help too. If you are bringing any food or drinks to share, please note that TYJP will not be providing paper products.

So that we can sit as a group, we will gather at the Wal-Mart shopping center at Kildaire Farm Road and Tryon Road in Cary. We will then carpool to minimize parking difficulties.

When: Thursday, July 4th

Time: Meet at 4:45 pm. We will leave at 5:00 pm SHARP.

Where: Carpool/Caravan from the Wal-Mart shopping center at Kildaire Farm Road and Tryon Road in Cary. Park near the TGI Friday's restaurant.

If you're late: You can call Stuart/Sherry at 264-3405 or Mike at 434-3261 on our cells once you have parked andarrived at the park. Please keep the call short so we dont use up all our minutes.

In case of rain: We will send out an e-mail by 3:45 PM with alternative plans.

For questions before the event: E-mail Sherry at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

DIRECTIONS to the Wal-Mart shopping center:

Get to US1/64 and get off at the Tryon/US 64 exit.

Take Tryon Road (East toward Raleigh) towards Kildaire Farm Road.

The shopping center will be on the right side just before you get to Kildaire Farm Road. (If you go too far and get to Kildaire Farm Road, turn right onto Kildaire Farm Road, then make your first right into the shopping center.) Park near TGI Fridays restaurant, but not IN the TGI Fridays parking lot.

If you miss us at 5:00 pm or are coming later, to get to Regency Park:

Go back on Tryon Road (West) towards US 64 and take a left on to Regency Parkway (before US 64).

Take a right staying on Regency Parkway into the Park, finding parking where you can.

Walk into the park and call us on the cells (see above.)

Durham Bulls Giveaway Fundraiser:

When: Saturday, July 27

Time: 5:30 PM

Where: Durham Bulls Athletic Park

We need five or six volunteers to help raise money for TYJP, to help defray the cost of running TYJP. We will be helping the Durham Bulls give away baseball caps to the Fans prior to the game. Based upon the past few giveaways, volunteers will only be working 15-20 minutes. Also, volunteers will receive complimentary tickets to the game, which begins at 7:00 PM. If interested, please provide your name, Email address, and phone numbers (day and evening). The first five or six people who contact Michael Cohen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) will be given more details.

You may be wondering, why should I volunteer? Several reasons:

 It's a mitzvah!

TYJP membership was free this year.

 It will be fun!

TYJP needs money to continue to operate. (Do you really think this Email List-serve and our web page are free?)

 It's a mitzvah!

If you have any questions, please contact Michael Cohen at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Update: As of July 1, we still need atwo or threevolunteers.

Where: Lake Crabtree Park

Join the Mosaic of NC and TYJP for an afternoon of fun
playing football at the Lake Crabtree Park.
For those of you
who are later risers, this one may be of interest to you. If you don’t consider yourself to be an
athlete or don’t know how to play football, don’t be discouraged. You won’t be the only one. While we have invited football greats
Joe Montana and Emmett Smith, neither of them have RSVP’d, so I don’t expect any
ringers to be joining us.

Take I-40 to
Exit 285, Aviation Parkway. Turn right if you're coming from I-40 east, and left
if coming from I-40 west (go south, away from the airport). Look for the
entrance to Lake Crabtree Park on the left in less than a mile. Park in the
first lot on the right.
