Re: [U2] Anyone here using Cold Fusion to access UniVerse?
Hi Allen - I'm having problems with CFMX7 and UV/ODBC also and not having much luck. (UVpe 10.1) *Very* well known issue, unfortunately, no workarounds that I'm aware of, see the ff. thread @ the CF forums: http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=6threadid=454501forumid=1 Upshot is, no one seems to be able to get it to work. Very disappointing, and I don't know who to blame, but Macromedia seems the likeliest culprit. I was able to work around the issue by using UVSH to go directly into UV from the cfexecute tag. It works really well but then you are no longer using ODBC/SQL and is highly proprietary. One of the best things about it, is that it releases your UV login once the query finishes and returns to CF. I was very surprised at just how fast this was but did not like the non-standard approach. Don't know how it would work on a large scale application however. My guess is very fast and very flexible. Interesting, are they running off the same machine, presumably? Another possible solution is to use FusionWare's eTools ODBC driver. I think this is the old Liberty/ODBC driver and server. I really like the product when I used it, but am looking for the NO cost solution at least while prototyping. We're not running the UV system on Windows, unfortunately, but these do look interesting. Ultimately, we're going to go the web services route so an additional investment likely not likely for us. If you could share your CF connectivity parameters for UV/JDBC, I would appreciate it. I've not played with that yet. (Just another tasty ingredient in the soup!) Yup, this was a hard one for me to get, I was following some bad advice posted in the cf forums, here's what works for me in the datasource setup: CF Data Source Name uvjdbcvhup JDBC URLjdbc:ibm-u2://192.168.100.99:31438/HS.SERVICE Driver Classcom.ibm.u2.jdbc.UniJDBCDriver Driver NameUniJDBCDriver User Name(valid user) Password(valid user password) where HS.SERVICE is the name of the UV account that the user logs into, in our case, HS.SERVICE The other thing is to make sure that your classpath in the CF Java VM settins poitns to the two IBVM deliverd files, unijdbc.jar asjava.zip ; in my case the classpath looks like: C:\IBM\UniDK\jdbc\lib\unijdbc.jar,C:\IBM\UniDK\uojsdk\lib\asjava.zip The webservices idea is a great way to go, but requires significant development. Once I get this site up and running, webservices will be next. Us too, after JDBC. RE: [U2] Windows Service Packs
Always backup before doing a service pack install! Once you've gone down the oh no, what now batman? road a few times you'll *never* install *any* software without backing up first. You may be able to go into start_settings_control panel_Add/Remove Programs and find the service pack and deinstall it; that is if it is not one of the upgrades that are non-removable. I had a complete meltdown in 12/2003 - first the drive broke down, then on a new drive 2 days later my motherboard fries (Merry Christmas to me, not). I put a new system together, grabbed my data files from backup, upgraded from win98 to w2000 loaded all my apps from scratch and all I had left was to load Norton AV. It crashed and burned and I had to start over. Now when I put a system together, I do a quick backup after each app install. Sometimes it really pays to be paranoid! hth, Allen -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Baruch Salamander Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2005 10:44 To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: Re: [U2] Windows Service Packs When things broke, what was done in order to restore the system to its previous condition? u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org writes: Things broke! RE: [U2] Anyone here using Cold Fusion to access UniVerse?
We are using CF with Universe. It took awhile to get it working. One of the problems was an issue in the /etc/inetd.conf file there were two lines referencing the rexec service. The line with the -c at the end is the line you want and there maybe an empty line after the good line in the file, that needs to be deleted. Peter, I'm having problems with CFMX7 and UV/ODBC also and not having much luck. (UVpe 10.1) I was able to get UV/ODBC to work with MS-Query and was able to get the CF datasource config to test the UV/ODBC connection as OK but when I ran a CF query against it, I received an Invalid Argument or mismatch message (or something like that). Is that what you are experiencing? I've tried this with CF and UVpe on XP using CF's internal web server as well as moving UVpe to W2K server with IIS and got the same results. I was able to work around the issue by using UVSH to go directly into UV from the cfexecute tag. It works really well but then you are no longer using ODBC/SQL and is highly proprietary. I was very surprised at just how fast this was but did not like the non-standard approach. Don't know how it would work on a large scale application however. My guess is very fast and very flexible. I wrote a couple of CF components as well as a couple of small UV server applications that help handle the UV to CF connectivity including UV reads and writes. Also wrote a rudimentary prototype of the MV REPLACE statement in CF. I finally tabled the task and moved on to testing UniData which is working well so far. I'm developing a CF website that works with either MS-Access, UniData, Universe (maybe), mySQL, and possibly SQL Server. (Kind of a throw everything in the pot and call it vegetable soup project!) If not, well, that's one of the benefits of modularization and exposing code as UI-independent rules, which is after all what Stored Procedures are all about.
