RE: [U2] VISTA and U2 Tools
My Vista system has been stable on SP1 until the last Windows Update installed some network drivers that were incompatible with my system. After I determined that ndis.sys was failing I restored to a date prior to the update and reinstalled the update without the driver update and all has been well since. I can not compare before SP1 and after SP1 because I held off installing Vista until SP1 was available. I did experience a couple of problems with software. All but one was resolved by going to the vendor web site and downloading a Vista compatible version. I had to upgrade my Roxio to version 10 and my Norton AntiVirus to version 10.2. My UniVerse 10.1.X will not work but 10.2.x will. The bottom line is that other than having to download some new versions of drivers and application software Vista has been stable and fun to use since SP1. Our groups never see the delays the members of this group see, so with all due respect, there's something different happening that's causing the lags. We often see as many as 200 emails a second going out of our server, which is an 800mghz PIII with 120GB disk, no mirroring (I know, bad idea) and running fedora core 4 (old...). I send an email to one of my groups at home, and I get it back within seconds. Now then, with that said, I've also added bulk_mailer to my email group server so maybe that speeds things up a great deal. I don't know. I did it so I would quit getting the annoying 'too many email connections from your server' errors I see from aol, hotmail, msn, yahoo, netscape, netzero, juno, gmail, . . . ad infinitum of the 'big' email hosts. Unfortunately we cannot go by zip code and I was wondering what other people have done. Reason for that, in their PDF, they use the example of Kingwood, Texas (which we have 4 zip codes for) states that the tax collected should go to City of Houston and the Houston MTA, not to Kingwood. Outside of that explaination, I cannot find any other cross reference between the 2, to try to create some logic out of it. The software package we use has what they call tax jurisdictions. This makes the layered sales taxes like Texas easier. Each customer account can have up to 3 tax jurisdictions assigned. For example, one can be for the state portion, one for a county portion, a third for the city portion. === Norman Morgan [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.brake.com === A cynic is a person searching for an honest man with a stolen lantern. === --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/ You will find that three tax codes are not enough in some jurisdictions. Then city I live in collects state, county, city and hospital district taxes. I suggest going to http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/local/ and downloading the pdf of Texas taxes. From this you can create a file that your program can retrieve the tax rates. If a company is outside of the incorporated limts of a city you would not collect city sales tax for that city. Re: [U2] Printer problems on UV PE under Windows XP
Eric, Unless something has changed in release 10 that I do not know about, UniVerse NT will not allow a network path for printers. Any printer that UniVerse needs to address must be set up locally on the server that UniVerse sits on. Then SETPTR will find the printer provided there are no spaces in the name. You can have a printer named NORCON but not \\NORCON-DEV\NORCON. Only printers you can see when you type in SPOOL -LIST can be used in SETPTR. Re: [U2] Printing different
One way is to create a record in a file and include the record at the top of your program. INCLUDE BP I_ArialFonts For example: In BP file create record I_ArialFonts. Then, 001 = EQU NORMAL.FONT TO CHAR(27):'(10U(s1p10v0s0b16602T' ;* Arial 10 002 = EQU Arial24 TO CHAR(27):'(10u(s1p24v0s0b16602T';* Arial 24 003 = EQU Arial24B TO CHAR(27):'(10u(s1p24v0s3b16602T';* Arial 24 bold . . . PRINT Arial24:'Hello':NORMAL.FONT:' World' You may need to change the INCLUDE statement to fit the flavor you are running but I think this should work for you. What is bizarre, is that the boxes and bar codes are working properly, but the fonts print in courier. I've tested this by just printing fonts, and they work just fine, but when we have a complex page (often over 10k), things don't happen properly. I suspect that there may be a timing issue. If it is a large monitor you want have a look at these guys. Also, we visualized one of the 48 plasma screen HDTV's that surely should be better than a regular tv (albeit not the resolution like a monitor). The client is prepared to spend some $ on this. Thanks in advance. P.S. IIRC Apple had a split monitor situation with the mouse weirdly jumping from one monitor to another within a wide application. Any clue about this for MV. However, wIntegrate has: 1) Query Builder 2) Cuts and pastes way faster and AccuTerm has: 1) Significantly better terminal emulation (width beyond 132) 2) Multiple open sessions within the same instance 3) Much nicer cut-n-paste capabilities (cut paste @15,10 - 72,20) 4) Friendlier interface with user (at least for me) 5) The best darned site license price available. Create a Q pointer to the remote VOC and copy it into a local temp file. Then write a small basic program to read from the temp file. Each time you get matching keys between the local VOC and the temp file delete the item from the temp file. Currently, we have Epson printers attached and are printing ascii text to a pre-printed form. I would like to use laser printers with postscript. So, I am experimenting with a postscript file that I would like to print via the aux port. What Ive done is to write a test program to open the aux port via control codes, then cat the postscript file, then close the aux port. What prints out is the postscript verbatim. I suppose 'cat' is not the way to go, but some kind of 'binary' method that says to the printer to not interpret as ascii. Does anyone know the magic word for this ?
