I do (have universe PE running on centos) , if I remember right you need
to sym link the older version of that library to libstdc++.so.5 and it

have access to my system right now but I will verify it tonight.

I assume you are trying to install UV 10.2.8?

RE: [U2] Universe PE - Fail to install

2007-09-30 Thread John Jenkins
Nothing specific - but a number of database providers (including U2) suggest
turning off Hyper Threading in the BIOS - it may solve your problem.

Any questions on why a hardware issue could affect software running under an
O.S. and a BIOS please call Intel and Microsoft.

BIOS (Basic Input Output System)is supposed to hide any dependencies (yes -
right - sure)

Let us know whether it works for you - there's a fair chance.

Sara,

Hi.

I have had a similar problem when the security of the user has been
restricted. It was a 'standard' user with weird policy changes to limit
disk/directory changes and some application installs.

There are also two IBM support issues dated 2004/07/22 regarding something
similar with Windows NT/2000:

quote

During a UniVerse install on Windows NT/2000 at about 80% completion, the
install may abort with the message: Could not load universe.dll
c:\ibm\uv\bin\universe.dll. Unhandled exception 0x80040702 description,
failed to load dll:universe - setup will now terminate.

/quote

If someone in the list has complete access to the IBM support could add
further details...

Have you thought of using a virtual os/application install on the desktop?
It can be tidier and easier to manage, in particular by setting up a
standard Universe install/setup, including any applications for learning on.

Cheers,

David Murray

I was trying to use the excellent tutorial written by Brian Leach to
introduce a new staff member to the world of UniVerse. When I tried to
install the PE version of UniVerse on her PC it failed to Register the
universe.dll and terminated the install. I then tried it on my own PC with
the same effect. Both these PCs are newly built with an Intel dual core
CPU. This seemed to be a possible common denominator as we tried the same
zip file on a slightly older single core CPU and had no problem. All these
PCs are running XP with SP2.

Does anyone know if the PE version is not available for dual core or is this
likely to be something else we have done.

Any suggestions welcomed. For the record this tutorial is an excellent

RE: [U2] Universe PE - Web Services

Phil,
The answer is yes, we have an interface in the testing phase that receives
an xml, wrapped in SOAP, through the IBM web services and passes the data
into our UniVerse system for processing. Michael Byrne at IBM provided us
with a document, Getting Started with the U2 Web Services Developer, that
was very helpful.

Can IBM web services handle getting passed an xml document, such as a sales

would use then to process incoming sales orders.

Sara

The web services require a pooled connection licence.
Which is, unfortunately, not available with PE.

Grrr

Though I have to say, when I finally got to play with the IBM web services
I've found them disappointing, particularly in the lack of data types. Maybe
someone who can afford them now can tell me if they've extended that.

I rolled my own a couple of years back (mvSOAP), then mothballed them when
I heard IBM were bringing their own out. But I'm considering blowing the
dust off them again - support for doc and RPC modes, standard data types,
control over multivalues, reusable templates and basic validation were all
in there, and fast.

Brian

While we are waiting for an official version of UniVerse 10.2.4 we have
been trying to get Web Services working in the downloadable PE version.

We have created a Web Service but when we try to run it we are advised
in the log that the license has expired.

Is this not able to be used in the PE version or is there some way of
extending the license?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Sara Burns

RE: [U2] Universe PE - Web Services

2007-06-26 Thread phil walker
Can IBM web services handle getting passed an xml document, such as a sales
order? The example provided in the 'hard to find' knowledgebase using two
number to be multiplied is very simplistic...and I was wondering how you
would use then to process incoming sales orders.

Cheers,

Phil.

The web services require a pooled connection licence.
Which is, unfortunately, not available with PE.

Grrr

Though I have to say, when I finally got to play with the IBM web services I've
found them disappointing, particularly in the lack of data types. Maybe someone
who can afford them now can tell me if they've extended that.

I rolled my own a couple of years back (mvSOAP), then mothballed them when I
heard IBM were bringing their own out. But I'm considering blowing the dust off
them again - support for doc and RPC modes, standard data types, control over
multivalues, reusable templates and basic validation were all in there, and
fast.

Sara Burns

2007-06-22 Thread Tony Gravagno
A site that has mv.NET installed can have inbound or outbound web services
calls in minutes, and the cost is a lot less than a connection pool
license. In fact, if you get mv.NET from Nebula RD, I'll provide
functional samples for web services for free.

Yeah - I had a play with the beta program, TBH it is only about 20 or so lines
of code in ASP.NET to write a web service front end to a unibasic subroutine so
I never bothered using the new web service developer !

Just an fyi for everyone,
IBM is removing the connection pool requirement from web services. This
will be a client side change, due out in September. We requested the
enhancement a few months ago and just received word when it would be
available.
