Sounds like a UAC issue. A lot of applications try to store their settings/config/.ini files in their program directory (i.e. c:\program files\application\, where "application" is the directory the application uses). In Windows 7, UAC wants to redirect those to the users %APPDATA% directory (e.g. \users\username\AppData\Roaming\application). There are a couple of ways to address this: 1) Change the "start in" location in the application's properties (right click on the icon, and select properties) to start in %APPDATA%\application (where "application" is the directory referenced above). 2) If you have local admin rights on the computer, you can copy the settings/config/.ini file to the \program files\application directory. You need the AUTOLOGOUT to kill off processes that are left behind if a user turns their PC off without disconnecting. So it's not a good idea to turn that off. That's why SBClient and I guess DC too send a keep-alive signal to the server. This worked fine under XP but on Win7 machines this doesn't seem to work any more. Another spot to check is the windows screen saver / hibernation setting. I found I had to turn off allowing a machine going into hibernation, especially laptops. If one port is open on the firewall to allow the connection, but, another is required to keep the connection alive, and thats the one its not allowing out, then that could be your problem. One thing to note, which you may already know... The Windows Firewall in WIndows 7 filters inbound and OUTBOUND traffic. So you may just want to turn it off altogether and see what happens. I experience the same problem with SBClient and mvDeveloper (UD 5.2 on Solaris) ever since I swapped my old PC running XP to a new 64 bit Windows 7 PC. After about an hour and a half of inactivity I get disconnected. I have the suspicion that Win 7 doesn't send the keep alive that is expected. Hi Bill This is a problem with Wintegrate and DC on Vista and Windows 7. I believe Rocket is looking at this, but you should make a support call to Rocket on this. If you use Windows 7, you could run DC through the xp virtual mode. You could try running DC in xp compatible mode in windows 7 and see if that works. We found it early on in our testing of wInteg 6.1.3. Vista and Windows 7 clients have the behaviour - XP does not. Something to do with the Aero functions in Vista/7. It took a while to be able to provide U2 support with a reproducible scenario, but we eventually succeeded in getting an engineering case opened to deal with it. I'm hoping the wIntegrate 6.2 version going into beta soon will have a fix, because it is a very frustrating phenomenon for developers here. I have had issues with Dynamic Connect where if you change anything else on the setup and save it, it seems to revert to the default keyboard file. In response to a query regarding Dynamic Connect 5.2 in October 2003 IBM replied that " Dynamic Connect (DC) was added to the U2 product suite to provide simple terminal emulation functionality equivalent to the UVTerm tool that had historically been available for UniVerse". Well, one of the "simple" things supported by UVTERM was the AREV screen handler which is also built into Dynamic Connect via extensions. Many other terminal emulations and extensions eg for System Builder not supported by UVTERM have been supplied as a part of Dynamic Connect with the associated scripts supplied in source form ie not compiled into .wix files. As any user of Dynamic Connect will know, UVTERM is a poor comparison, and to date, Dynamic Connect has been a great replacement emulator giving users much needed additional functionality. Being able to customise the supplied emulations has been one of the really powerful features and customising the supplied scripts has been invaluable in providing needed functionality. For IBM to state that Dynamic Connect is a "simple terminal emulator" is to try to deflect the argument that once features have been made available - and documented - it's not OK for the vendor to remove them without notice or warning. Further to this IBM stated in their reply that scripting had been documented in the Dynamic Connect manuals "in error". Hard lines for those users and developers, like yourself Alan, who never received this little tidbit of information from IBM that you were at risk of not being able to fully utilise later versions of Dynamic Connect even though your documentation said you could. Oh yes, we were offered Wintegrate at a "reasonable price" because of this "error". This clearly indicated to me that IBM were manouvering a situation where users, who had exploited the documented feature of being able to script Dynamic Connect, would at a later date be pressured to move to Wintegrate. The other bit of arrogance was that as Dynamic Connect was "freely distibuted" IBM could take away features as they saw fit. The expression "The lord gives and the lord takes away" comes to mind There are situations where UVTERM functionality can only be practiaclly supported through some form of scripting. For example, the only practical way to support the UVTERM "pop-up" menus, which users came to rely on in UVTERM, is to write an extension to detect mouse events and load up a menu, supporting an image viewer is only practically supported via scripting, turning off CTRL-E you need to modify vt100.wis, turning off the BEL etc. etc. I do not recall though ever seeing a statement to the general U2 community that removing features and "locking down" Dynamic Connect to the extent that you have experienced was going to be IBM's stance. Rather than being an ommission, IBM have actually seen fit to deliberately spend time and money to remove a feature previously provided, even if not supported, and have done so in a really clandestine and disruptive manner with little thought as to the impact on the user base who provide IBM with a regular and profitable revenue stream. Thanks Ian and John, I have PE at home and have reviewed the Support Information. Under License Information, it gives the serial number and states 'users: 999'. With that stated, we have recently installed a phone system that allows us to monitor customer calls and service representative's screens to help improve customer service. The terminal emulation software that our service reps use was written specifically for our needs but unfortunately, the monitoring software skips screen displays (possibly because of refresh rates). In the development group, we are using wIntergrate for obvious reasons. Since Dynamic Connect is a 'cut-down' version of wIntegrate, we feel comfortable that we can use its terminal emulation capabilities (eliminating many of the menu options) for our users. My only concern is that I am uncertain of the licensing restrictions, which I am still unclear as to the limitations. >From the readme file, there is mention that 'Installation no longer requires authorization' which leads me to believe that we could use this as a corporate solution to terminal emulation (baring multiple sessions and will it work with the phone system). It may be the way you're getting to the Dynamic Connect session. Try looking at where your shortcuts are pointing to and/or try saving your session to a new session name. I have a number of saved sessions that give me different color schemes and different servers. I save those sessions to my home directory on a network drive so I can get to the same setup no matter where I connect. Once you've saved your session, create a link to it on your desktop. Be sure you save your session with the .WIS extension so you can associate the dconnect.exe to it.
