If it is a large monitor you want have a look at these
guys. They have monitors that reach from here to
way over there! :-)

My dispatch client presently has around 15 running feet of bulletin board
that
they use to dispatch approx 75 trucks/trailers daily. We would like to
incorporate a large monitor to provide this form of visibility.

Does anyone have any insight on what the largest practical monitor is
and/or
any experience with using video projectors with actual data instead of
power
point presentations that no-one has to read. Also, we visualized one of
the
48 plasma screen HDTV's that surely should be better than a regular tv
(albeit not the resolution like a monitor). The client is prepared to
spend
 some $ on this.

 Thanks in advance.

P.S. IIRC Apple had a split monitor situation with the mouse weirdly
jumping
from one monitor to another within a wide application. Any clue about this
for
 MV.

 Thanks.

We have been using an InFocus [DLT] X1 projector in our conference room for
six months.

We mainly use Dynamic Connect, some wIntegrate. The response from people
here has been overwhelmingly favorable.

Projectors start at $899. Bulbs lasting three months cost $250. Mounting
hardware is $200. CablesNmor has a 25' video cable for $25. Worst case,
Belkin has a video amp for $75. Seven ft square projector screen for $125.
The market for people doing this at home is booming.

Most units have VCR input, S-Video, and sound.

I suspect that this is the best option for them. I have further details, if
needed.

Re: [U2] Large Screen/Monitors

2004-08-15 Thread Stephen O'Neal
I have seen both.

One ran off the digital video card of the pc (think the biggest HDTV Plasma
Monitor you have ever seen). From the video card, there was a Y cable
splitter where one cable went to the PC's Monitor on the desk and the other
went to this massive overhead digital monitor. It was HUGE with HDTV
inputs too! So, everything that was on the PC's Monitor was on the
overhead. 2 years ago this thing was in the $20K range. This was in a
call center where the statistics were displayed for everyone to see.

The other was a setup where they connected an overhead video projector onto
a wall (think trade show). It was run from the video out of the guy's
portable PC. Same idea - everything on the PC was on the Wall. The
limitation of that setup was the room had to be dimmed. I understand there
are other video projectors that have enough output to be shown in fully lit
rooms. It had extremely good resolution... I was pleasantly surprised
with the clarity.

2004-08-15 Thread Ross Ferris
There are some other practicalities to be considered here with regard to the
resolution you are going to use with EITHER alternative.

My bet right now is that all 75 trucks are on the board - you will probably need
1024 x 768 resolution (closer to 1600 x 1200) to get all trucks on the board as a
screen display)

== you may need to consider 2 (potentially smaller) displays and/or a scrolling
display

We use projectors to project pricing data onto walls for our dealers. We do
get through bulbs (expensive) at a fair old rate though. Nice and clear
though.

We used to use 52 plasma screens but now that we have 6 or so projectors that
route got pricey.

2004-08-14 Thread David Wolverton
I have a site that uses 50 (52? 56? Freaking huge...) Samsung Tantus DLP
rear projection HDTV/Monitors for large monitors - the stuff looks awesome -
and price-wise they're hard to beat - under $3k - the only issue is they are
about 14deep, but in the scheme of things, not SO deep that an area over a
counter could not be used or space where a standard monitor one sat!
