Hi John, Why isn't this in the submissions list? : http://wiki.ubuntu-br.org/TimeArtwork#head-cdff2bf16ee7854db58cf2519dc2b1c99af15a90 Any reason it was left out? Blau Araujo mentioned it here on the mailing list on 27 Oct. Though it's more of a modification of the Ubuntu CoF(which few folks don't prefer), I find it the best of the existing lot. It's easier to recognize both as 'Ubuntu' and 'artwork' related. Would scale better and is less busy than the other submissions. Regarding the closing date. Weren't we waiting on Ivanka's survey result to identify the scope of this team? And there was the indecision on whether the team should be an Ubuntu Artwork or an Ubuntu Design team? I was hoping someone [some guy from Germany? ;p] would bring this up! We need to first identify what we want to be before we finalize a logo. -- Cheers, Vish -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

Blau Araujo mentioned it here on the mailing list on 27 Oct. Because it's the logo of the BR-Artwork Team. I can't help it, I see 2 people pushing a giant brush into a 3rd person's face. Would scale better and is less busy than the other submissions. That's a ridiculous claim, given submissions like http://www.flickr.com/photos/j_baer/5142173763/in/pool-uawt-1#/photos/j_baer/5142173763/in/pool-1507...@n25/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/55752...@n05/5196951321/in/pool-uawt-1#/photos/55752...@n05/5196951321/in/pool-1507...@n25/ Regarding the closing date. Weren't we waiting on Ivanka's survey result to identify the scope of this team? And there was the indecision on whether the team should be an Ubuntu Artwork or an Ubuntu Design team? I thought the survey would be about the custom website idea? Regarding design vs artwork: That's why I asked for logo concepts that at least hint at design, which basically led to pencils and rulers instead of just brushes ;) I have no doubt that logos, icons, wallpapers and themes will stay inside the scope of the team. Questionable is if mockups and interface/interaction design should be added. Since you can't tell such a complicated story with a logo anyway, I see no issue with making a choice from where we stand now. It's not like we couldn't replace the logo again, should there ever be a better idea. -- Thorsten Wilms thorwil's design for free software: http://thorwil.wordpress.com/ -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

And include this one as well with the brush: http://www.flickr.com/photos/55752...@n05/5168384008/in/pool-1507...@n25/ The issue those icons have is they seem to symbolize an /edit/ action, like 'draw' or 'edit' . Checkout the launchpad's edit icon, it's very close to the brush. I dont see how those relates to a *team's* logo. But, i do like the thought process that lead to the logo. Hope it meant more about freedom than a mechanical fan, which I dont seem to relate to freedom. It's not like we couldn't replace the logo again, should there ever be a better idea. Replace it? when? ;) If we decide to change to a 'design' team, all the work folks have done will be in vain. It wont even be used for 2-3months. If everyone feels OK with changing a logo in just such a short period, we should make it clearer for people that their work might be replaced. Re: [ubuntu-art] Artwork Team Logo - Submissions due today!
Hi, everyone and Vishnoo First of all, I apologize for not participating so actively in this discussion. Not only because my English is not good enough to develop full arguments, but mainly because I've had a season with many shows (I am also a musician in a blues band). Back to the question of the logo, here in Brazil, in November, I proposed the same issue for debate. I believe that our artwork team (as well the other teams) do not exactly need a logo, but a generic pictogram that is capable of representing the idea of community in which we could insert a picture to distinguish the teams. So far, we are inclined to abandon the logo idea (that I posted here before), in favor of some kind of stylized speech bubble as the base pictogram. We are still studying alternatives, but you can see how far we come, here: http://wiki.ubuntu-br.org/BlauAraujo/Artwork (the text is in portuguese, but you can jump to the pics, which are self explanatory). Now, even being a discussion of the Brazilian team, I do not discard these ideas as a submission to this team. In a sense, a universalized system of pictograms can be very useful since it gives a visual unity to all community environments, despite language, that Ubuntu users have access. That's it! Sorry Google translator, please. :) Blau On Fri, 03 Dec 2010 16:44:21 +0530 Vishnoo v...@ubuntu.com wrote: On Fri, 2010-12-03 at 10:07 +, Ivanka Majic wrote: There is something about this one that I like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/55752...@n05/5166498982/in/pool-1507...@n25/ but fear that a compass is an outdated idea.
