subversion, or subsequently dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/python-
subversion*:

I was able to install python-subversion with dpkg --force all -i

excuse my limited unix knowledge.

I got me the ubuntu 6.06.1 64bit and burnt it on CD.

Upon booting off CD it aborts because it fails to start the X server.
I get thrown right into a shell, no login.

I was looking thru the xorg0.log

I see my radeon x850xt listed with the right busID as primary device.

But at the end of the logfile it says

PCI Radeon Mach64 on bus 5.0.0 not found !
PCI Radeon Mach64 on bus 5.0.1 not found !

Needless to say i dont own (never had) a Radeon Mach64.

update something and replace files when it didnt even get that far off

[Bug 64493] apt-get suggests to autoremove packages that are currently being removed

2006-10-07 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Steps:

1. Install a package that does not download any additional dependencies (i.e.
all its dependencies are installed already).
2. Uninstall that new package by doing an apt-get remove package_name.

You will then get an output that recommends you use apt-get autoremove
after completion of this operation to remove said package, even though
your current operation is doing exactly that. It is not necessary to
also run autoremove since the current operation is already removing that
same package.

For example, I just installed a .deb I had made of the filezilla ftp
client. I installed it. Then when I removed it using apt-get remove
filezilla, I got the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get remove filezilla
Password:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  filezilla
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  filezilla
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives.
After unpacking, 6300kB disk space will be freed.

[Bug 64475] Re: Evolution doesn't show subfolders on exchange after last upgrade

2006-10-07 Thread Andrew Waldram
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63797 ***

I Get the same issue, suspect it's related to the recent patches.

I also get 'folderdisplay/inbox' instead of inbox whenever there are
unread messages.

This applies applies to all folders, this folderdisplay rubish is
displayed if any unread mail exists in the folder.

I've linked them together as it was the same update/patch that caused
it.

It seems as if each sata channel is probed for a device - but the
timeout is much to long. Because I have only one device connected the
bootup takes up a very long time (up to 5 minutes).

In dapper this did not happen.

[Bug 55117] Re: misleading tooltip on circular object

2006-10-07 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Since Dapper is frozen since its release in June, this will not be
fixed for the Firefox for that version. And in Edgy, which uses Firefox
2, that feature (clicking on that circle in the upper right corner)
doesn't exist anymore: clicking on the circle doesn't do anything, and
it doesn't display any tooltip.

So this problem has been solved...

It seems to work fine now, with the latest updates! It may be linked
with the upgrade to gnome 2.16.1. Yesterday I have taken a look at
mandriva 2007 and it didn't work (they are using gnome 2.16). So, I hope
the problem will be fix on dapper, because on edgy it works like a

[Bug 64499] kill 1 in postinst does not work inside a vserver

2006-10-07 Thread Max Lindner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

I am running edgy in one of my vservers (http://www.linux-vserver.org)
and it is not possible to do a killl 1 inside a vserver:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# kill 1
bash: kill: (1) - No such process

So the postinst of upstart fails and due to this the dependencies are not
configured either.
I discovered that a pkill init does not return a error, although it calls kill
and there is this in the strace:

kill(1, SIGTERM)= -1 ESRCH (No such process)

So it would be nice to change the kill 1 to pkill init or changing the
postinst not to fail if kill 1 fails.

Otherwise it is only hardly possible for vserver-users to update their
upstart (deleting the kill 1 line in /var/lib/dpkg/...).

TIA,
Max

[Bug 64115] Re: black active window when returning from screensaver

2006-10-07 Thread Olivier Fourdan
Just for clarity, the problem comes from a bug fix in Xorg 7.1 regarding
CompositeUnredirectWindow().

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2005-October/010679.html

xfwm4 used to work around the spurious unmap/remap in Xorg in 7.0 by
ignoring these, but Xorg 7.1 do not generate those events anymore, thus
causing real meaningful unmap events to be ignored by xfwm4, thus
causing this problem.

The work around has been removed now from xfwm4, but that will cause
repaint problems when using Xorg = 7.0 - Still better than breaking
with Xorg = 7.1

[Bug 28479] Example of firefox64 and 32-bit java crash

2006-10-07 Thread Fredrik Jonson
Ok, this is a crash report from trying to log into my online bank, so
you can guess just how much of a non-issue I think this is.

Now, the java test page on java sun works, so its apparent that it is
not all java applets that crash.

I have downloaded and tested the 32-bit firefox (1.5 instead of 2.0
though) from mozilla.org and under that using 32-bit java my online
bank's login-applet works flawlessly.

I'd be greatful if a 32-bit firefox version was made available for
critical applications like this.

Thanks!

[Bug 61879] Re: gnome-panel-screenshot crash

Confirmed here, too. The error produced both when launched from the
panel as well as from the command line, as gnome-screenshot.

$ gnome-screenshot --version
Gnome gnome-panel-screenshot 2.16.1

Note the gnome-panel-screenshot in the above version! gnome-panel-
screenshot is actually a symlink to gnome-screenshot. Now a
funny/strange thing happens: When I lauch the same program as gnome-
panel-screenshot --despite its being just a symlink-- it WORKS! The
screen shot is saved properly. Can anyone confirm that?

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2006-10-07 Thread ChrisLees
While shopping for RAM, I reproduced the bug. Upon asking a computer
salesperson if they would consider selling computers with Linux
preloaded, I was given the reply No; Linux is a good operating system
but it doesn't have retail value.

Also, a support customer was affected by the symptoms of the bug. Their
computers were taking many minutes to start up due to the installed PC
security suite, but migration of their computers was not possible
because their child's school teaches Windows-specific computing. The bug
obviously affects Edubuntu, and I suggest a report be filed against it.
