[Bug 75323] Re: Beryl doesn't work after awaking from suspend to RAM

2006-12-11 Thread Mark Reitblatt
I'm sorry, but Ubuntu can't support software it doesn't provide. If you
can replicate the problem w/ Ubuntu provided packages (i.e. not beryl),
then please file a new bug.

As a rule of thumb, if you have to an a non ubuntu.com repository, it
didn't come from Ubuntu.

[Bug 72005] Re: OSS apps no longer works, just ALSA, strange hal-device output

2006-12-11 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Sometimes, system starts up right but sometimes doesn't ... Strange.
I've backlisted tv tuner card modules, then I load them in the last
script in /etc/rcS.d. In this way, order is always right, however it's
ugly and fixed (ie: if I change tv tuner card it is required to modify
my script to load right module), etc.

[Bug 75323] Beryl doesn't work after awaking from suspend to RAM

2006-12-11 Thread Vyacheslav Rodionov
Public bug reported:

Configuration:
Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 (AMD64) on Sony Vaio VGN-SZ340P laptop

Problem:
After awaking from suspend-to-RAM all I can see is a black screen with mouse
cursor. Without Beryl running everything is fine.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run Gnome or KDE (didn't try anything else).
2. Run beryl and emerald (if not already).
3. Suspend to RAM (any way).
4. Awake from suspend.
5. Get black screen.

[Bug 75324] Gnome file chooser/selector is way to small

2006-12-11 Thread Fredrik Sjögren
Public bug reported:

Today, many people use resolution like 1280*1024 and even 1600*1200.

Todays file selector dialog is WAY to small. It should use a
(configurable) percent of the screen height/width.

I KNOW that this is one of the reasons people think Linux is bad. Maybe
it sounds strange, but if the first thing you see is a tiny tiny file
selector and you have to scroll forever you get get pretty dissapointed
if you are used to the windows file selector. It is better then gnomes.

[Bug 75328] Totem-mozilla completely breaks web functionality and removes ubuntu-desktop when you attempt to remove it

2006-12-11 Thread Troy James Sobotka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-mozilla

In order to play BBC streams and certain other media formats on amd64,
one _must_ use mozilla-mplayer.

Unfortunately, totem-mozilla BLOCKS mozilla-mplayer from being the
default player in Firefox. This prevents streams such as .ra from being
played properly through mozilla-mplayer.

Further, if you wish to remove the totem-mozilla virus, it seeks to
remove the ubuntu-desktop package which is problematic to say the least.

[Bug 47181] Re: broken localisation support

2006-12-11 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
Hi,

I cannot help in adept not using translations, but I can help in fixing
anything in Rosetta that is wrong.

From the adept source code, I can see this list of templates:

adept.pot
adept_installer.pot
adept_notifier.pot
adept_updater.pot
libept.pot

adept_batch.pot
libadept.pot

In Dapper and Edgy, last two templates aren't imported (well, libadept
is, but we disabled it so it doesn't appear in the list of available
resources to translate). That usually means that we didn't find it in
the source package after the compilation. That should be reviewed by an
Ubuntu/Kubuntu developer.

About libadept vs. libept, in Rosetta, we can rename libept to libadept
if the name changed, but, If you know well, the layout used by adept and
how it should be, help us to improve what we have imported in Rosetta,
or just confirm that what we have right now is correct.

Thanks.

Suspend-To-Ram: Does not work out of the Box anymore! :-(
But with the following settings in /etc/default/acpi-support it works like a

ACPI_SLEEP=true
ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=mem

[Bug 75342] After resuming from suspend, can't start any programs

2006-12-11 Thread John Spray
Public bug reported:

Sometimes (maybe 20% of times) when resuming from suspend-to-RAM, I
cannot start any more programs from within my current desktop session.

This applies to using the menu on gnome-panel, but also when using my
Start a terminal keyboard shortcut (metacity's responsibility, I
think). I get a busy mouse pointer, but the program never starts up.
This applies equally to all applications, including the log-off dialog:
to log off I have to use ctrl+alt+backspace.

I can, however, start a program by switching to another VT, logging in,
doing export DISPLAY=:0.0 and running it from there. Further, if I
start a terminal this way then that terminal's children are fine too.

This is not happening only with GUI applications. If I have gnome-
terminal already open when I resume, then I can't run vim inside it, it
hangs while trying to start. I will attach the output of strace vim
from this situation, as an example.

The only workaround I've found so far is to ctrl+alt+backspace and then
log in again, after which everything is fine (but of course I've lost my
session).

[Bug 75347] if-up.d script steps time

2006-12-11 Thread Tore Anderson
Public bug reported:

The clock of one of my routers running Dapper had bogus time (something
that ntpd was slowly but steadily working on). Then I added an
interface and boom! the time was stepped. OSPF went into an retarded
state, loosing random routes and everything was going crazy.

After the ordeal was over I found the /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate
script, where time is stepped _every_ time interfaces go up/down. This
is probably okay on a laptop or something, but it's madness to do so on
a server. I sure know OSPF isn't the only service that gets really
confused when the clock leaps.

There's actually a reason why the manual page of ntpdate says the
following about the -b option: «This option should be used when called
from a startup file at boot time.»

I've now deinstalled ntpdate (it served no purpose anyway since I have
ntpd), but really, this package should not be part of the default server
installation with this behaviour.

Tore

[Bug 75350] Restoring from rooted backup with --no-absolute-filenames spams stderr

When restoring from a rooted backup (i.e. files have a leading slash)
