[Bug 58721] Re: Edgy upgrade breaks multiple Matrox cards

2007-01-20 Thread Fred
Cyber Rigger :
Here is what i have done :
Modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf to add
Option UseFBDev true
Modify /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer to comment (by adding a leading #)
the line about matroxfb_base :
#blacklist matroxfb_base
This way, the matroxfb_base module will be loaded automatically at boot time.
As it is stated in the header of this file, this can cause suspend failures,
kernel panics and general mayhem.
So before doing this check you have an ubuntu live CD by hand in order to
reverse this modification if anything goes really bad.
Hope it works for you as it works for me. But as we have different cards, i can
warranty you anything.

[Bug 80702] Keyboard indicator flags are missing

2007-01-20 Thread Shlomi Israel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: human-icon-theme

Hello,

Gnome's keyboard-indicator applet, has a hidden feature, which allows
countries' flags to be shown instead of simple text such as us.

The option is availabe via gconf:
‎/apps/gswitchit/Applet/showFlags

This feature can enhance the usability for the gnome desktop alot in my
opinion. It's quite difficult most of the time, to locate the applet
with your eyes, so you need to search for it. Using a flag image helps
finding it almost immedietly.

The main problem with this feature is that the flags are missing in the
default Icon theme (or any other theme). So the user has to download it
himself (and edit the images so they will be in the correct dimensions).

Flags can be downloaded from here:
http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/sodipodi/sodipodi-flags-1.6.tar.bz2

[Bug 80705] Digital camera detected as photo card, but has generic drive icon

2007-01-20 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 6.10

When I plug in my digital camera via USB, an alert pops up telling me
that a photo card has been detected, and asking me if I'd like to import
the pictures. However, the icon that appears on the desktop is that of a
generic disk drive.

What should happen: If Ubuntu knows that it's a photo card, its icon
should look like a photo card (or a camera, since a photo card will
usually be connected using a camera rather than a dedicated card
reader).

[Bug 64905] Re: Mp3 metadata (ID3 tags) are corrupt

2007-01-20 Thread beerfan
Are you asking for a sample mp3 Daniel? That would be a sizable
attachment and might raise copyright concerns but I'm happy to if you
really need one.

I just did some testing using versions in Ubuntu Edgy Eft (SJ 2.16.1)
and I can confirm that ID3 tags in mp3s no longer seem to be corrupt.
Attached is a screenshot of a hex editor view of one of the files. I am
using the following gstreamer pipeline.

 audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc vbr=4 vbr-
quality=0 ! xingmux ! id3v2mux

ID3 tags in the resulting mp3s are v2.4.0 and the only tag editor I've
found that can read the tags is Ex Falso (uses its own engine called
Mutagen).

I guess at this point the issue falls on tag editors since the tags
don't seem to be corrupt anymore. Is there perhaps an alternative
pipeline that can specify v2.3 tags?

[Bug 77557] Re: knetworkmanager fails to find network devices

2007-01-20 Thread sk0rp10
After some investigations I found that any program which alters the
/etc/network/interfaces file deleting the auto command from a wireless
interface messes up knetworkmanager. To workaround the problem just put
back the auto command before the wireless interface name.

Example:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

wifi0
iface wifi0 inet dhcp

Change it in

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Hi, my guess now is that it is because i have a S-ATA hard drive. The
partion manager only shows sdan partitions, but the next screen
stubbornly offers hd0 to install GRUB which I presume is not for S-ATA

I am now adventurously trying it with sd0 for grub, and see what
happens, but it would be neat if the installer just knew where to
install GRUB

  When does the installer crash?

it crashes in about the last minute of installing Ubuntu. So,
partitionig, copying etc has all been busy for quite some time and
 then ...boom crash.

What is the output if you run it on a terminal (sudo ubiquity)?

Yeah that is one of the things you tionmight want to improve on the
installer (although it maybe hard). I made a screenshot (as I
installed from the livecd, that program was running) but found out I
could not save that (which is probably reasonable)

I also noticed that I could select the trace, but apparently, not copy
it. I tried ctrl+C, ctrl+shift+C ...anyway i could not paste it.

I did see a popup saying: error istalling grub in i think hda0
 but not sure.

Then I got the dreaded This is a fatal error (or so)message and that
 was the end of it.

 Cheers,

[Bug 42160] Re: [Dapper] Shut Down won't power off

2007-01-20 Thread Mikael Gerdin
I have the same problem with a P5GD1 Pro and latest feisty kernel
(2.6.20-5-generic), running the latest beta BIOS from ASUS (1013).
The problem has been persistent in every kernel since i ran Dapper on the
machine.
However if i run `shutdown -h now` on the root console from booting Recovery
mode, it shuts down just as it should. It also shuts down perfectly if i choose
shutdown from the KDM login screen, however if i log in to X, then all my
chances to get it to shut down by itself are lost.

2007-01-20 Thread Luka Renko
Brian, can you confirm that you have same problem in /etc/network/interfaces as
sk0rp10?
In that case, this is bug in knetworkconf and should be addressed there.

sk0rp10: can you tell us exact steps that you need to to do in
knetworkconf to reproduce missing auto in /etc/network/interfaces? Are
you running edgy or feisty?

Hello Alex,

Updating to Flash 9 is indeed the solution. I couldn't find a simple way
to update from within Firefox, so I downloaded the new tar.gz from Adobe
and installed from the command line. Is there a GUI way to do this?

Thanks very much!

[Bug 80706] Re: Dapper doesnet run on new hardware

2007-01-20 Thread a7p
Hi Jörn,

would be helpful if you could report the concret hardware which is
causing you trouble. Eventough I think it is very unlikly there are
going to be feature backports or even kernel upgrades for Dapper this
policy (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SupportedHardware) tells to
report not supported hw as a bug - so just do it (I'm very interested in
the outcome of this ;).

[Bug 80571] Re: a way to disable AAAA lookups in the resolver

2007-01-20 Thread didier
Hi,

First double check that you've really disabled IP6.

IMO A system wide lookups doesn't make sense and there's already
a way to disable them in lookup:
hints.ai_flags = AI_ADDRCONFIG;

getaddrinfo (...

Too bad telnet and at least gaim don't use it, but most gnome
applications and firefox do.

on the other hand an easy way to disable IPV6 would be nice, sometimes
it's a real problem and not only with broken router (slow or congested
uplink).

[Bug 77557] Re: knetworkmanager fails to find network devices

2007-01-20 Thread sk0rp10
I am running Feisty development branch, updated with latest packages. I
just changed the wireless interface configuration from knetworkconf and
found that the line auto wifi0 was missing.

Morever I found that on Feisty knetworkconf autodetects the system as
Slackware 9.1 , and if I force version popup by altering knetworkconfrc
as this:

[General]
askAgainPlatform=true
detectedPlatform=Ubuntu_7.04

I can then select Feisty as platform, but then no network interfaces are
found, so I think there should be some mess in knetworkconf which thinks
that feisty is slackware 9.1 and does wrong configurations

[Bug 80718] Recovery the system from /home partition

2007-01-20 Thread Felesh
Public bug reported:

When you use a individual partition for /home the system may to give you a new
option for recovery your system.

I mean, that, when you reinstall again your Ubuntu all the configuration
now is recovery because the /home partition is not deleted. But the
program may to be installed again one by one.

One new interesting option may to create a option for recovery all your
programs, something like a simple text file in your home partition that
the ubuntu installer could read and know what programs may to be
installed.

With this method, reinstall the system and upgrade it, will be really
easier.

[Bug 80720] can't get updates: too many errors processing archives

2007-01-20 Thread isabella
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Ubuntu 6.10 - my Update Manager reports 4 possible updates:
libpoppler1, libpoppler-glib, poppler-utils from version 0.5.4-0ubuntu4 to
0.5.4-0ubuntu4.1 and tzdata from version 2006m-1ubuntu to 2006p-0ubuntu6.10.
When i try to install updates, the Update Manager says Not all changes and
updates succeeded...
Terminal panel reports:
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/tzdata_2006p-0ubuntu6.10_all.deb
(...)
Processing was halted because there were too many errors

The same occurs with apt-get update and Synaptic!

[Bug 78645] Re: Installer crashed with 6.06 LTS for PC, simplified Chinese

2007-01-20 Thread Vassilis Pandis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 47687 ***

(The reporter responded to me in private)

Thanks for the files. You are indeed experiencing bug 47687. As I said
in my previous comment, this is fixed in 6.06.1 so you can prevent the
crash from happening by upgrading all packages with 'ubiquity' in their
name before starting the installation. It is also fixed in the latest
edition of Ubuntu, Edgy. Again, thanks for reporting this.

Re: [Bug 69265] Re: Cups prints only first job on USB printer

2007-01-20 Thread Unhorst
Hi,

what exactly does this mean concerning my problem? Unlike i was hoping
the printer doesn't print correctly, yet. It still stops printing after
the first job is completed. I have to disconnect it then reconnect it
and reinstall the driver to make it work.

Best regards

Beryl isn't in Ubuntu yet. Looks like you are using the packages from
beryl-project.org. Please report any problem with those packages to bugs
