[Bug 26064] [Feisty] Losing ticks on amd64
I'd like to re-open this bug for Feisty. We have four Core 2 duo machines with an Intel Q965 chipset that are all losing ticks at about three seconds per minute (three hours per day). This appears to be an upstream kernel bug with both 2.6.19 and 2.6.20, since this occurs for us with both Feisty and Fedora Core 6 (with either 2.6.19 or 2.6.20 kernel). This occurs both with and without the proprietary nvidia kernel module. The full dmesg log is attached. The relevant lines seem to be: [ 92.801333] Losing some ticks... checking if CPU frequency changed. [ 2240.211414] warning: many lost ticks. [ 2240.211416] Your time source seems to be instable or some driver is hogging i nterupts [ 2240.211425] rip _spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x8/0x10 As a stab in the dark, I've tried a few clock= boot options, such as clock=jiffies shown here, but these seem to have no effect. ** Attachment added: dmesg log showing lost ticks http://librarian.launchpad.net/7057259/dmesg.log -- Losing ticks on amd64 https://launchpad.net/bugs/26064 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 99021] If one does not log in fast enough to a Samba share, log in fails
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba When attempting to log in to a Samba share (a la nautilus smb://server/share) in Ubuntu 6.10, if one waits too long to log in, it simply closes the log-in window and presents a new one. Works fine in Ubuntu 5.10. May possibly be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/98998 Not technically relevant but this caused me a headache to figure out. A student came up to me and said I can't get into my locker (a Samba share). I sat and watched her carefully and painstakingly type all her information into the log-in prompt, and it didn't work. I typed it in, and it worked. She typed it in very carefully as I watched and confirmed that she was not making a single mistake, and it didn't work. I typed it in, and it worked. Wash, rinse, repeat. My head literally hurt because it seemed impossible for me to replicate her error until I adopted her way of typing very carefully and painstakingly and realized that the significant variable was time. ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- If one does not log in fast enough to a Samba share, log in fails https://launchpad.net/bugs/99021 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 96486] Re: u-m should automatically install nvidia-glx-legacy if hardware requires it
I don't think postinst is the best option. All the work should be done at runtime with l-r-m IMHO. With the detection been done at runtime would be possible to have nvidia + fglrx installed at the same machine. This is really usefull for livecds and usb-hd (I have one with feisty installed that I use at my notebook - ati 200m, don't supported by oss ati driver - and at my fathers pc - gforce 4 - and at my fathers notebook - i915). r-m would just blacklist the modules if oss drivers are selected. This can be done by letting l-r-m dpkg-diverting the libs and modules. But I don't know how much time this takes. Maybe is not a viable solution. -- u-m should automatically install nvidia-glx-legacy if hardware requires it https://launchpad.net/bugs/96486 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 99001] Re: [feisty] Firefox Crashed x86_64
yeah, i can reproduce the crash. not every try, but every third or so. here are my steps: - go to ubuntuforums.org and open any thread - save it by file = save page as. select complete website and save it as .php site. - open the file with file = open file firefox then starts to open empty tabs, every half a second or so it adds another empty tab. - let some empty tabs open and then close firefox. = crash (but not every time) i can prevent that by closing the tabs very fast, hitting strg + w very often. my extensions: - adblock plus 0.7.2.4 - german language pack -- [feisty] Firefox Crashed x86_64 https://launchpad.net/bugs/99001 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 98982] Re: modprobe.d blacklist of cx8800 driver does not work for recompiled kernel
Also, I should note that the cx8800 driver unloads and loads properly when I use modprobe. So for example, once the machine is booted with the recompiled kernel, if I execute modprobe -r cx8800 the module unloads properly as checked with a subsequent lsmod. Something very similar happens if you input the user password, but leave the group password blank. [Bug 99049] kubuntu feisty beta - installer chrashs on portition table
Public bug reported: Maybe it's the same bug, I do not know: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/43125 I downloaded Kubuntu 7.04 beta, burned and booted. I was installing it. The installer asked about use the whole HD to install (automatic) or just a partition(manual). I chose manual and the partition table appeared. I marked /dev/sda3 for formatting. When I tried to edit it (intended to format from reiserfs to ext3) the installer chrashes and this error appears: __ Traceback(most recent call last): file: /usr/lib/ubuquity/frontend/kde-ui.py line 1942, in on_partition_list_edit_activate index=selected[0] IndexError: list index out of range __ I think the error says the same as me. However I installed it sucessful. How? I edited the partition and after marked the checkbox of Format?, then clicked next. I'm using Kubuntu now to post the bug :) There is something else that I'm not sure if it's a bug. I connected to the internet and apt-get works. Konversation (IRC) too.
