[Bug 97107] Re: Braid screensaver cause desktop to freeze up

2007-03-30 Thread Colin Darie
I have also a freeze with Braid screensaver on a Nvidia Geforce Go 7600, the
Nvidia drivers and an i686 architecture.
I can see the first second of the screensaver (in thumbnail or full screen),
then the system freezes. It freezes only with Beryl or Compiz and theses
drivers.

Ctrl + Alt + backspace has no effect, I have to riboot with the Sys Req.

I join my Xorg.0.log

Sorry for my english.

Shouldn't have to delete the kftpgrabberrc file to fix it after every

[Bug 99004] Re: Feisty Fawn installer freezes at 88%

2007-03-30 Thread Martin Jürgens
We will need the log files, specifically /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/installer/debug, in order to find the true cause of the error for
them. These can be obtained by running the installer with the --debug option.
Instructions for doing so can be found here:

[Bug 26064] [Feisty] Losing ticks on amd64

2007-03-30 Thread edschofield
I'd like to re-open this bug for Feisty. We have four Core 2 duo
machines with an Intel Q965 chipset that are all losing ticks at about
three seconds per minute (three hours per day). This appears to be an
upstream kernel bug with both 2.6.19 and 2.6.20, since this occurs for
us with both Feisty and Fedora Core 6 (with either 2.6.19 or 2.6.20
kernel). This occurs both with and without the proprietary nvidia kernel
module.

The full dmesg log is attached. The relevant lines seem to be:

[ 92.801333] Losing some ticks... checking if CPU frequency changed.
[ 2240.211414] warning: many lost ticks.
[ 2240.211416] Your time source seems to be instable or some driver is hogging i
nterupts
[ 2240.211425] rip _spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x8/0x10

As a stab in the dark, I've tried a few clock= boot options, such as
clock=jiffies shown here, but these seem to have no effect.

[Bug 99021] If one does not log in fast enough to a Samba share, log in fails

2007-03-30 Thread Simón A . Ruiz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

When attempting to log in to a Samba share (a la nautilus
smb://server/share) in Ubuntu 6.10, if one waits too long to log in, it
simply closes the log-in window and presents a new one.

Works fine in Ubuntu 5.10.

May possibly be related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/98998

Not technically relevant but this caused me a headache to figure out.

A student came up to me and said I can't get into my locker (a Samba
share).

I sat and watched her carefully and painstakingly type all her
information into the log-in prompt, and it didn't work.

I typed it in, and it worked.

She typed it in very carefully as I watched and confirmed that she was
not making a single mistake, and it didn't work.

I typed it in, and it worked.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

My head literally hurt because it seemed impossible for me to replicate
her error until I adopted her way of typing very carefully and
painstakingly and realized that the significant variable was time.

[Bug 99022] Fiesty Gnome Xorg Resolution

2007-03-30 Thread Gordo
Public bug reported:

I installed the Beta of Feisty tonight... Looks awesome. After
installation I had 1024x768 resolution using the open source Nvidia
driver. I used the restricted driver manager to install the 3D Nvidia
driver and rebooted. After rebooting I can only get 800x600 max. I tried
to add 1152x864 to the modelines like I did with all previous versions
of Ubuntu to get my preferred resolution (1024x768 is still there too)
but the highest resolution I can get is 800x600.

I have a GeForce4 440MX 64MB card with has working in 3D mode flawlessly
with all previous versions of Ubuntu.

Thanks,
Gord

Quite not easy because I had several tab opened, one with

Firefox and restoring session didn't trigger the bug again.

Look like a race condition with memory|locks|semaphores.

[Bug 96486] Re: u-m should automatically install nvidia-glx-legacy if hardware requires it

2007-03-30 Thread Marcelo Shima
I don't think postinst is the best option. All the work should be done at
runtime with l-r-m IMHO.
With the detection been done at runtime would be possible to have nvidia +
fglrx installed at the same machine. This is really usefull for livecds and
usb-hd (I have one with feisty installed that I use at my notebook - ati 200m,
don't supported by oss ati driver - and at my fathers pc - gforce 4 - and at my
fathers notebook - i915). r-m would just blacklist the modules if oss drivers
are selected.

This can be done by letting l-r-m dpkg-diverting the libs and modules.
But I don't know how much time this takes. Maybe is not a viable
solution.

[Bug 99001] Re: [feisty] Firefox Crashed x86_64

2007-03-30 Thread der_vegi
yeah, i can reproduce the crash. not every try, but every third or so.
here are my steps:

- go to ubuntuforums.org and open any thread
- save it by file = save page as. select complete website and save it as
.php site.
- open the file with file = open file

firefox then starts to open empty tabs, every half a second or so it adds
another empty tab.
- let some empty tabs open and then close firefox. = crash (but not every time)

i can prevent that by closing the tabs very fast, hitting strg + w very
often.

my extensions:
- adblock plus 0.7.2.4
- german language pack

[Bug 98982] Re: modprobe.d blacklist of cx8800 driver does not work for recompiled kernel

2007-03-30 Thread heckheck
Also, I should note that the cx8800 driver unloads and loads properly
when I use modprobe. So for example, once the machine is booted with
the recompiled kernel, if I execute

modprobe -r cx8800

the module unloads properly as checked with a subsequent lsmod.

Also, the cx88-dvb driver loads properly using modprobe, and does so
whether or not the cx8800 driver is also loaded (but does not load
automatically).

[Bug 71493] Re: Master channel on C-Media Electronics CMI9780

2007-03-30 Thread FiNaLBeTa
The .asoundrc I attached uses softvol to create a master channel. (Normally one
can not overwrite the master, but in this case it does work since master
controls nothing)
It also upmixes to 5.1.

The problems lie with the driver, and will not get fixed judging from
what upstream has to say about it.

This solution works, but can't be incorporated into a default Ubuntu in
any normal fashion.

[Bug 24828] Re: IPv6 should be disabled by default

2007-03-30 Thread Thomas Butter
this change comes in combo with ifupdown that will do the
right thing once you have at least one instance that
 requires ipv6.

ifupdown won't be able to know if I need ipv6 since ipv6 uses auto-
configuration when a router advertisement arrives and some applications
use link-local addresses which are never configured.

forgot about the update; this needs an UVF exception now.

[Bug 92570] Re: nm-applet dissapears after connecting to vpn

2007-03-30 Thread Brad
Something very similar happens if you input the user password, but leave
the group password blank.

In my case, I entered my user password, and accidentally hit enter
instead of tab, and the NM Applet disappears just like above.

I think that the above might be crashing for a similar reason as he
doesn't input a username field, only the group password.

[Bug 99050] Dell 170Ls do not show a thermometer bar screen during start-up or shut-down procedure

2007-03-30 Thread Simón A . Ruiz
Public bug reported:

When booting up or shutting down Ubuntu 6.10 on our 120+ Dell 170L
workstations, on a Live CD or after installation, the standard
thermometer bar screen does not appear, only a blinking cursor in the
top-lefthand corner.

Everything works otherwise; it still transitions to the standard login
screen when it's done booting up and powers off when it's done shutting
down, it just doesn't show that it's doing anything.

Ubuntu 5.10 did not have this problem, nor do our Dell210L workstations
or Dell Inspiron 1300 laptops running Ubuntu 6.10.

[Bug 99049] kubuntu feisty beta - installer chrashs on portition table

2007-03-30 Thread piovisqui
Public bug reported:

Maybe it's the same bug, I do not know:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/43125

I downloaded Kubuntu 7.04 beta, burned and booted. I was installing it. The
installer asked about use the whole HD to install (automatic) or just a
partition(manual). I chose manual and the partition table appeared. I marked
/dev/sda3 for formatting. When I tried to edit it (intended to format from
reiserfs to ext3) the installer chrashes and this error appears:
__

Traceback(most recent call last):
file: /usr/lib/ubuquity/frontend/kde-ui.py
line 1942, in
on_partition_list_edit_activate
index=selected[0]
IndexError: list index out of range
__

I think the error says the same as me.

However I installed it sucessful. How? I edited the partition and after
marked the checkbox of Format?, then clicked next. I'm using Kubuntu
now to post the bug :)

There is something else that I'm not sure if it's a bug. I connected to
the internet and apt-get works. Konversation (IRC) too. But konqueror
does not browse any site. I used apt-get to install Firefox and Mozilla
worked!

Have you had a chance to test this with Feisty? I have not seen this

[Bug 99056] [feisty] Keyboard Stop button only pauses rhythmbox

2007-03-30 Thread Damiano Dallatana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I just installed Feisty beta 1 over Edgy (erased edgy root partition, and left
edgy /home untouched).
Using Rhythmbox, I noticed that when I press the stop key on my keyboard,
rhythmbox pauses.
I reconfigured the keyboard shortcuts, making sure the stop key was set for
stopping the music, but nothing changed (restarted xorg to make sure the
changes were applied).
This is a regression, as using Rhythmbox on Edgy Eft the stop button worked
properly.

Using rhytmbox 0.9.8 on feisty (completely updated) on it-IT
environment.
