Re: [Bug 81608] Re: Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font

2007-04-10 Thread Michiel Sikma
Again, it seems to be the result of bad design. Try increasing the
font size while looking at that footer. You'll find that it's set to
a static height, and is unable to adapt to different font sizes.

I think that the footBotDiv id is the culprit. http://youtube.com/

well, I just noticed that pons.de has a new design which is now
working with DejaVu Sans. But I found another website which doesn't
like right with DejaVu Sans, it's the bottom of youtube.com.
Because they might change this I attached a screenshot.

[Bug 105216] 'man wall' contains reference to talk(1), but talk is absent in Ubuntu

2007-04-10 Thread Jens Ropers
Public bug reported:

I've encountered the following documentation error: In 'man 1 wall', it
says:

 SEE ALSO
  mesg(1), talk(1), write(1), shutdown(8)

However, talk(1) does not exist on a default Ubuntu install:

 $ talk
 bash: talk: command not found
 $ which talk
$ sudo find / -name talk
 Password:
 $

IMHO it might be useful to either include talk(1) in Ubuntu or change
the manpage.

NB: This makes me wonder: Should manpages ever refer to commands which
may not exist on the distribution? If so, how?

Thank you for the bug report.

You can upload the crash file to
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/105207/+addcomment or
maybe you'd prefer to try to obtain a backtrace by following the
instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs.

Please if this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it
so we can have a testcase

Also indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled.

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 103742] Re: IDE-hdd detected as SCSI

2007-04-10 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
I see... But it shouldn't be right to use some simple script in the next
update that did use regular expression to replace hd with sd. I am not a
regular expression guru but replacing text isn't that hard. It isn't
good if this can happen to inexperienced users that can't or doesn't
want to learn what fstab is, since this fix is simple (at least from my
pov) it should be done because it could help others who also were
affected by this.

[Bug 61946] Re: [Edgy Data Loss] umount progress dialog missing

2007-04-10 Thread Cimmo
Ok I've tried a bit this new way:

tried to copy a large file about 50 MB then copied another one (about 15
MB), I know that my usb key is not fast as it shown, so I safely
removed, but dialog isn't appeared immediately but after some seconds
(5-6) and then progress dialog start from 0% and go to 100% very
quickly.

In other words seems that sync is called before showing progress dialog and
then can confuse people, window dialog shouldn't be opened only at the end of
sync.
Hope to be clear

[Bug 23267] Re: Default Hebrew fonts in Firefox are unreadable, ugly

2007-04-10 Thread Rich Wales
Alexander Sack asked:

So what font settings do you have to choose to make firefox detect it
properly?

I didn't have to make any changes at all to Firefox's default settings
to have Hebrew text show up. If, by properly, you mean settings that
would cause vowel-pointed text to show up properly, I still haven't seen
this sort of text displayed properly in Firefox on an Ubuntu system --
though it shows up just fine in Firefox on a Windows system.

Note that Hebrew text without vowel points looks fine in Firefox on
Ubuntu. Most modern Hebrew text is written without those extra dots and
lines (native speakers generally know which vowels are required in which
words without needing visual cues). However, in those examples of
Hebrew text that do include vowel points (such as sacred texts, or rare
cases where vowels must be indicated in ordinary text as the only way to
resolve an ambiguity), it is essential that they are positioned
correctly, or else there is a bug that needs to be fixed.

BTW, are you running hebrew ubuntu?

No. I'm running an English-language installation of Ubuntu.

[Bug 102309] Re: desktop-effects sets workspaces to 1

2007-04-10 Thread DannyW
Sorry, I'm not sure about the difference between horizontal viewports
and workspaces.

When cube is turned in with desktop-effects I only see one 'desktop' on
the panel in the bottom right. When the cube used to work for me,
enabling it in desktop-effects used to create four 'desktops' on the
panel in the bottom right of my screen.

Sorry for any confusion.

[Bug 59549] Re: WEP is listed on WPA configure AP.

2007-04-10 Thread GiuseppeVerde
I am seeing similar behavior, which is particularly aggravating under
poor signal conditions. Windows and Mac notebooks seem to not have a
problem, and it's extremely frustrating having to manually enter the
whole information over and over and over again.

The problems are:
  1) the UIowa WPA network uses dynamic WEP, and it is detected as static WEP.
Somehow, this works for Windows and Mac, but not for N-M.
  2) links seem to be randomly dropped.
  3) N-M forgets about the network and I have to keep manually entering in the
informaiton (very annoying after the 15th dissassociation)!

Attached is a log of frustration (grep -i networkmanager
/var/log/syslog).

This is independent of networking device because it happens for both my
ipw2100 as well as madwifi card.

[Bug 105220] Application windows switch between screens when Desktop Effects is enabled with TwinView

2007-04-10 Thread bennrachel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Graphics Card: nVidia Corporation NV44 (GeForce 6200 LE)
OS: Ubuntu 7.04 Beta
Using: Multiple Workspaces
Workspaces: 10

I enable Desktop Effects with either or both of the options given and
I open up a couple of application windows, usually firefox. I have
multiple workspaces and when I have multiple applications open over a
couple of them and switch between the workspaces then one of the
Application windows switches to the other monitor. It seems to be the
application window which has focus.

[Bug 102912] Re: newest caching algorithm patch broke image editor

2007-04-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have the saqme problem on a 64-bit machine. I use GNOME asw the

In the form of now it is unusable and it can perhaps simply be fixed by
reverting/removing the cache mechanism change.

I appreciate if this gets fixed for the Feisty release.

[Bug 105221] Wishlist: Drivers for more webcams/hardware + auto-suggest driver for attached hardware

2007-04-10 Thread Anders
Public bug reported:

Here's one for the wishlist:

Feisty's driver manager for e.g. the NVidia drivers is really good
stuff! Well done!Similarly great work on the auto-downloader of codecs
for non-supported media (e.g. mp3 etc)

How about extending this functionality to cover hardware people plug in:
e.g. use case:

User plugs in a webcam supported (or not!) by linux:
Window should pop up, saying something like: 'You've plugged in a {brand}
Webcam, we're searching for known linux drivers...' and offer a click and play
driver install if the driver exists / is supported. If not, say - sorry but no
known driver exists for this hardware on Linux.

Currently, hardware support in Ubuntu is good, but especially for
webcams it relies a lot on users downloading and compiling their own
stuff from a host of sources: way outside of 'average users' skills(?)
and certainly within the possibilities of Ubuntu to automate! Also -
instead of users going to developers' personal homepages to download, it
would be great to include these drivers on the Ubuntu universe server or
similar

Solved(?) this problem on another Toshiba Staellite A100-SK4 (PSAA8C-SK400E)

However, contrary to that document, this is the entry that I appended to
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base to get the sound to work properly:

 options snd-hda-intel model=auto

The sound now seems to be working. At least it has over the past
 two reboots.

It works on Toshiba Satellite A105-S4074. There is no even need to
perform steps described in howto. This option (options snd-hda-intel
model=auto) works really fine.

- Also, I spent many many hours trying to get ACPI sleep on my Thinkpad with
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV200 LX [Mobility FireGL 7800 M7] to work (tried
Feisty 7.04 too, it is still broken I believe). Display comes up garbled/blank
about every 5 sleeps and requiring reboot. Messed around with all reported
fixes.. added the reported CPU speed fix, and a sleep in ACPI resume script,
seems to make it sort of work, but it is a pain to reboot every 5 or 10 sleeps.
Always happens just when I want to demonstrate how great Ubuntu is! (A fellow

[Bug 105224] Details on crash not displayed upon click

2007-04-10 Thread Kevin Cole
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept-notifier

In Kubuntu a la Feisty, the adept_notifier crashes and displays an icon
in the system tray. Mousing over the icon shows the pop-up tip:

An application has crashed on your system (now or in the past). Click
to display details.

However, clicking on on the icon simply removes it from the system tray,
rather than display details.

** Affects: adept (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
