[Bug 76989] Re: MP-BIOS bug on Asus Pundit1 AH2 (Kernel panic)
I'm also having the problem with Edgy Hardware: ASUS M2N4-SLI // AMD64 X2 4600 // 2GB DDR2 667. If I interupt the boot process with [Esc], the other options (safe mode??) do appear to let me into my Edgy installation. [Bug 107372] Re: window turns black after minimize and maximize
I also have the window blacking out problem with beryl installed. Could it be a problem with Nvidia cards? I have a GeForce 6150. Also, I'm operating in KDE and not Gnome. My blackouts often happen when opening something new, minimizing and maximizing, and having several things open at once. All programs are fair game, though Firefox seems to be the favorite application to suffer. I discovered that shrinking the window size sometimes fixes the problem too... but that's only sometimes. I would think I don't have enough RAM installed, but I have 2 GIGS!!! Shouldn't that be enough? I think I have sufficient video memory, too, but I suppose the GeForce 6150 is kinda skimpy in that area... dunno -- window turns black after minimize and maximize https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107372 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 72813] Re: Installer crashed on low disk space.
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 48355 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48355 I am new to Ubuntu. I have tried to install Ubuntu half a dozen times. Each time the installer crashes with a cryptic message which when decoded by looking at each partition means it ran out of disk space on some partition. It does not tell me how much it wants. I fiddle the partition sizes with Boot-It NG and try again and the same thing happens over and over. I had the impression Linux was tiny enough to fit on a floppy or CD. I guess I was way off base. PLEASE, before the install starts copying files, check the free space in the partitions and complain saying how much more space is needed in each partition so you can get it right the next go. i.e. complain about ALL tight partitions at once. If this would upset the purists, just make it a warning message. Also factor in a reasonable growth. The process of tinkering and reinstalling in SOOO tedious. I would also like the installer to optionally avoid the Grub boot manager. It seems Ubuntu installs it whether you like it or not. [Bug 109927] /etc/bash_completion reports script as being in the wrong location
Public bug reported: My description verbatim from a post to the EdLUG e-mail list: Second, and possibly related weirdness, is that I've got a shell script with read and execute perms in /usr/local/bin. My PATH contains /usr/local/bin, and I can get the name of the script using command-completion. But when I execute it, I get the following from bash: bash: /usr/bin/proofgeneral: No such file or directory I've checked, it's just not executing the script. I think that the command-completion part is telling bash that it's in /usr/bin, rather than where it really is. Thing is that other scripts in /usr/local/bin do not have this problem. (One of them is a script that runs Proof General.) If I give the fill path, /usr/local/bin/proofgeneral, then it runs fine. As it turns out, commenting-out the use of /etc/bash_completion in my .bashrc file fixes this. Here's the kicker: I'm not even using completion. I just type in the full name, and bash_completion mucks it up somewhere and says that it's in a different location. FYI, the version of ProofGeneral that I cam using comes from http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/hvg/Isabelle/installation.html#install_linux and I've installed it in /usr/local/share. ** Affects: bash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- /etc/bash_completion reports script as being in the wrong location https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109927 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 109199] Re: [nvidia-glx-new] Kubuntu Login Slides Around the Screen at 1280x1024 + 3 other errors with NVIDIA GeForce 6150
Wow, a mega large comment! flowingfire: It sounds like this is actually more of a support query than a bug report and you may get faster, higher quality responses posting your issues to https://answers.launchpad.net/ or http://ubuntuforums.org/ ... the login screen -still- slides around I have a distant memory that you need to be careful about the order resolutions are listed in within xorg.conf . On the line Modes [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] make sure that the resolutions that come further to the right are not larger than the ones on the left. You may also want to remove resolutions you will absolutely never use. Then my screen actually lined up correctly at the right resolution If the resolution was wrong out of the box (with the open source drivers) then that would be an ideal candidate for a bug of its own. The misalignment is down to the open source drivers probing monitors differently to the binary linux/windows nvidia drivers. Assuming your monitor is connected via an analog cable you can fix it by getting the monitor to auto adjust. I tried to install Java and it broke all sorts of things rendering the operating system unusable That's awful! Installing java should never do that. Assuming you installed it from the Ubuntu repositories (and the problem is reproducible) you should definitely file a bug on that. Having to reinstall to recover just makes the problem doubly bad. But my applications black out all the time You might want to take a look at Bug #96473 . I feel like I've stretched myself for this OS That's the way it goes I'm afraid. I've noticed things tend to work best for those who use them the most but I'm not for people torturing themselves trying to get stuff going under Linux. If it's that bad I suggest staying with WIndows for now and perhaps retrying a new live cd in six months time? -- [nvidia-glx-new] Kubuntu Login Slides Around the Screen at 1280x1024 with NVIDIA GeForce 6150 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109199 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 45404] Re: thinkpad-keys on ThinkPad X60* uses a large amount of CPU
Update: After running the patched thinkpad-keys for 24 hours, CPU time is a meagre 1 sec, just a tad better than the 25 minutes it used to spend a day... This just seemed to good to be true. So, to verify the correctness of the patch, here's some background: The tpb source (from which thinkpad-keys is inspired) says the following: /* Read only the interesting bytes from nvram to reduce the CPU consupmtion of tpb */ /* The kernel nvram driver reads byte-by-byte from nvram, so just reading interesting bytes reduces the amount of inb() calls */ ...So I went to the kernel and checked drivers/char/nvram.c, and found: * Each lseek() calls lock/unlock_kernel() * Each read() calls spin_lock/unlock_irq (which is expensive) * Each read() calls nvram_check_checksum (!). To check the nvram checksum on a PC platform means to inb 30+2 times... So, instead of saving 6 inb operations as intended, the current grok_nvram function does (32+1)*4=132 instead of (32+10)=42, spending 90 more than it should (in addition to any other overhead in calling lseek+read 6 times too many). -- thinkpad-keys on ThinkPad X60* uses a large amount of CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/45404 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
