[Bug 63090] Re: do not eject all USB/Firewire devices

2007-04-28 Thread Wenzhuo Zhang
Just for the record: among the three external hard drives I have access
to, feisty can eject two Cypress CY7C68300C-56PVXC based external hard
drives smoothly; it cannot eject the one based on Initio INIC-1530L.
Perhaps it is a bug in the usb_storage driver?

I hope the problem will be fixed soon. In the meanwhile, I'll just use
the pumount command to unmount the INIC-1530L based external hard drive.

Is the module type1 needed for ppracer to render fonts?

[Bug 35375] Re: Scorched3d SIGSEGV on startup

2007-04-28 Thread Emmet Hikory
Looking at this more, I realise that scorched3d links against
wxwidgets2.6, rather than wxwidgets2.8, so the previous patch didn't do
anything useful for this. I've backported the wxwidgets2.8 fix to
wxwidgets2.6 (attached). Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to
compile wxwidgets2.6 from the repositories today (even without changes),
so I cannot test to see if it works. Would anyone else be willing to
give it a try?

[Bug 110707] Lost the Desktop effects CUBE after install, desinstall and install again the NVIDIA driver (nvidia-glx)

2007-04-28 Thread lorenzana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I have a laptop (NEC versa P8100) with NVIDIA GeForce GO 6200. With the
nvidia-glx from the repository is working well (also the DESKTOP
EFFECTS, including the cube), except the resolution can't be 1280x800,
and only 1076x768 (and the screen is wideview, so the image is
deformed). I download the driver from www.nvidia.com for the GeForce 6
series, and try to install. So, I unistall the nvidia-glx first (for the
ADD/REMOVE SOFTWARE), close the X system, and install the nvidia driver.
So after installation, X is not working, so I install again apt-get
install nvidia-glx, and recover the X system, but now, I have only ONE
WORKSPACE, even with the CUBE activated on Desktop Effects.

[Bug 110709] [feisty] VPN over PPTP with NetworkManager connects but can not be used beyond connection

2007-04-28 Thread Azalin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-pptp

I let Network-manager manage my interfaces. I have setup the VPN
connections to my MS VPN server at work properly (Refuse EAP and Require
128-bit MPPE encryption are checked)

When I go into the network-manager applet and request it to connect to the VPN
server at work, it does this without hesitating.
However when I start the Terminal Server Client and let it connect to the
server, nothing happens and the client times out after a while.

When going into a terminal and when I ping to my server I get ping: sendmsg:
Operation not permitted
Also trying to browse the network at work through SAMBA, I cannot view the
shares of the server. I don't even see the shares, as if it can not connect to
the server.

I have the Firestarter GUI installed but turned on or off does not make
a difference.

This is what little information I have at the moment of when I am
connected:

[Bug 108935] Re: Installer freezes after creating a new LV

2007-04-28 Thread Brian Stucker
I too thought it was sitting there doing absolutely nothing and spent
quite a bit of time tearing my hair out because it looked hung.

It wasn't hung in my case, it was just deep in thought. After about a
minute (creating one 40Gb LV as part of a two-partition 20Gb each VG) it
finally came back to life. No idea what's going on, but the installer
shouldn't just sit there with nothing on the screen leaving you waiting.

[Bug 83290] Re: kernel 2.6.20-6 problem on asus centrino with kubuntu feisty herd 3

2007-04-28 Thread chriz
It seems to be not only a ubuntu kernel bug it is a generally bug in the
2.6.20 kernel. I tried the 2.6.20 kernel on my old kubuntu 6.10 and it
doesn't work too. Yesterday I build a new 2.6.21 kernel on my system and
it works. So I guess the new 2.6.21 kernel will also work on ubuntu 7.04
and asus M2N notebooks.

[Bug 81816] Re: setting up raid partitions takes very long and installer shows no progress bar for it

2007-04-28 Thread Brian Stucker
Users have thought that it's doing nothing and hung... me!

I spent several days time cursing at the machine because it couldn't get
the RAID setup correctly when all that was wrong were three things:

1. I wasn't familiar with the installer.
2. The set of partitions I have just so happens to be such that the Guided
Install and Help options stay unmoved when I add raid partitions. The
Configure RAID option is just out of view. If people leave the partition
screen before using that option, the next screen is not very helpful, warning
you that you have no / mount point, etc. If it had mentioned the option that
seemed invisible (and they don't mention that you have to scroll up anywhere)
it would have saved me at least a day. The screen never jumped, and I never
thought to scroll UP.
3. If you get a RAID half-installed, you have to (at least I did) use the live
CD, apt-get mdadm, and then umount, stop the raid, and zero the superblocks to
get rid of it. I think the installer disk automounts the raid (my guess)
because it won't let you delete a RAID successfully once you've rebooted once.
It only works while you're setting the RAID up on that boot cycle.

[Bug 110624] Re: Sound not working with Ubuntu 7.04

2007-04-28 Thread Ianman
I found the solution to my problem! When I opened the Alsa Mixer I
noticed on the switches tab an option: Audigy Analo/Digital Output
jack. In my case it was enabled. As soon as I unchecked this option the
sound started working!

In any case I have attached the requested TXT files (before I changed
this option). I have simply numbered the txt files corresponding with
the 7 points shown here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems.

I hope this information helps. Thanks for taking the time in any case!
Much appreciated.

Regards,
Ian

2007-04-28 Thread Emmet Hikory
I'm not having success compiling nmap with gcc 4.1.3 today, but attached
is a patch that should accomplish the following:

  * Provide icon from ./mswin32/icon1/ico (closes Ubuntu: 47325)
  * Change to use gksudo suggested by Mike Basinger (closes Ubuntu: 106378)
  * Modify .desktop file to validate (closes Ubuntu: 33586)

Icon generation was done as follows:
nmap-4.20$ convery ./mswin32/icon1.ico debian/nmapfe.xpm
nmap-4.20$ mv debian/nmapfe-1.xpm debian/nmapfd.xpm

change to german, logout/login

Now most of the systemsettings icons are in German, but some are in
Spanish !?!

it takes about 15 minutes after every change :(
It would take about 2 hours to complete my LVM configuration.

[Bug 107774] =D

2007-04-28 Thread xNalam
Thanks too David ... worked like-a-charm in my Asus P4S333 (SiS 645
Chipset / SiS 5513 IDE Controller).

After 9 days since I've downloaded Feisty I'm finally able to actually
use it =D

Good luck for all who still have this dark-side-evil-bug !

(Do I really need to patch my pata_sis.c or should I keep use the
modified initrd ???)

[Bug 90923] Re: bonobo-activation-server doesn't exit after logout, prevents panel applets from running on new login

2007-04-28 Thread elias
This bug is rather important I suppose. I consider it release critical
as I can not upgrade my edubuntu LTSP environment to Feisty as long as
this bug is out there! I would end up with lots of orphan processes and
things not working for my users after relogin. And obviously in an LTSP
environment, the users relogin frequently! Nobody is allowed to reboot
the server after logout!

Please make sure this will be fixed soon due to its relevance for LTSP
environments.

[Bug 110722] bad mimetype detection through ssh if file extensions are not present

2007-04-28 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a simple UTF8 encoded file and a configure script. I would like
to edit the UTF8 encoded text file via ssh in Nautilus. But the file
types seems to be detected as binary (application/octet-stream). When I
download the files into my local file system, everything works well, the
first file is detected as a text/x-csrc and a text/x-shellscript.

This is bad for me, because I cannot edit these files through ssh in
nautilus:

Cannot open ssh://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/home/kovzol/p/w2/configure: No
application suitable for automatic installation is available for
handling this kind of file.

In addition, I cannot add the Gnome Text Editor to this file type
because I get an error message:

Nem lehet alkalmazást hozzáadni az alkalmazás-adatbázishoz, in
English: Application cannot be added to the application database, or
so.

The simple UTF8 file has the name COPYRIGHT. I experienced that if I
change the name to COPYRIGHT.txt, then the file type will be detected
properly and I can edit this file in nautilus well.

[Bug 110723] [apport] speedcrunch crashed with SIGSEGV in Q3TextParagraph::lineHeightOfChar()

Italian: Stavo calcolando 19.50 + 2.80 e fin qui tutto ok. Mi ha dato come
