2007-04-30 Thread Benny
I'm quite sure [EMAIL PROTECTED] is correct, I send
a mail there, see https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gnuplot-
py-users

In the meantime, I read on:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FeistyUpgradesManual the following:
You may want to run
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/DistUpgrade/apt-autoinst-fixup.py (from the
update-manager package) also to fix a common problem with the automatically
installed information

Could that be involved? Obviously, as I reinstalled from SVN I cannote
test if running the above could have solved anything.

Please reopen this.

I had the nvidia driver from the vendor running before my feisty

version conflict described above. I've scrubbed the file system several
times for wayward leftover files ... as far as I can tell, the only
files I've got are the files from the package, yet it fails to start
with that error.

If so take that one that works and put it into the fstab file, instead

Thanks Ralph, I know about that. My point was that the clean install
gets it wrong. Why is that?
Anyway, none of them work because they are all links to scd0 and scd0 is
faulty, I can't read CD's or DVD's correctly.

[Bug 84119] Re: feisty trackpoint false clicks movement

2007-04-30 Thread jerrylamos
There is a line in your menu.lst:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic root=UUID=aee7eebe-02ba-428a-
b90b-afa9aed6dbcd ro quiet splash

Change it to:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic root=UUID=aee7eebe-02ba-428a-
b90b-afa9aed6dbcd ro quiet splash i8042,imax=1

That did it for me.

I see you have a line
defoptions=i8042.nomux=1
which from my limited knowledge doesn't do any good, so might as well remove it.
A line exactly like this, character for character including the #,
# defoptions=quiet splash i8042,nomux=1
is only used by the program update-grub as follows entered as a command line in
terminal:
sudo update-grub
So if you do not do
sudo update-grub
adding i8042,nomux=1 to the defoptions line it is of no use. The: #
defoptions... is only used by the update-grub program which is only run when
you issue it or else a new install is done.

Now changing your kernel line as in the beginning of this post should do
it as it is without having to issue: sudo update-grub.

Do note that some updates or an install of course replace the kernel and
change menu.lst, so if a kernel update should be done, you'd need to
update menu.lst on the new kernel line.

Cheers, Jerry

Your gconf change is a workaround, it's written nowhere than set the
gconf key to the same value it already has should trigger an update, the
efficient way is to no make any change when not required. As a
workaround you can try to set the value to something else and then back
to the value you want to use. The real bug there is the one pointed
upstream

[Bug 111219] Re: audacity should be compiled with gtk2 instead of gtk1

2007-04-30 Thread Emmet Hikory
The configuration option to use GTK+ 2 is actually in the underlying
wxwidgets library. The stable Audacity series (currently 1.2.6) relies
on the now aging wxwidgets 2.4 library (with about a dozen other
programs). This package remains compiled against GTK+1.2, as most
programs linked against it have seen few updates in the intervening
time, and may not work with GTK+2. The current development version of
audacity is linked against wxwidgets 2.6, which is compiled against GTK+
2, and this will br brought nito Ubuntu as soon as it is ready.

[Bug 107951] Re: Booting fails after installation (GRUB error)

2007-04-30 Thread Christoph Bier
Yes, I did but it results in Error 25. But I just tried to boot with the
Debian HDD plugged in (I can choose a boot medium from a Boot selection
popup menu of my mainboard) and it worked! I don't know why especially
because the Debian HDD wasn't plugged in when I installed Ubuntu. But
even if it works this is no solution because the Debian HDD will not be
plugged in when I use the Ubuntu installation.

Deepak, if the lid event isn't detected, then yes, a new bug report
would be a good idea, since the symptoms are different. Please do search
reported bugs first, though, in case this has been reported already.
Thanks!

[Bug 77675] Re: apache2-ssl-certificate has gone missing in feisty

2007-04-30 Thread speeves
Though this bug makes more work for us, it is not show-stopper. We can always
make the ssl certificates in the old-fashioned way as described here:
http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.8/ssl_faq.html#ToC28

Just modify your ssl vhost conf to point to the key and crt files that
you create, and you should be good to go.

[Bug 111227] NFS-root support indirectly broken in Feisty

2007-04-30 Thread StevenMcCoy
Public bug reported:

Various causes I can currently detect:

1) NFSOPTS changed from Edgy cause NFSv3 TCP only to be supported,
initrd image loops complaining about no-support from the NFS server.
One solution is to pass the options via PXE, e.g.

LABEL ubuntu-feisty-amd64
kernel ubuntu/feisty/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-lowlatency-amd64
append root=/dev/nfs
nfsroot=10.6.27.32:/export/sora/ubuntu-7.04-amd64-server,udp,rsize=32768,wsize=1024,hard,intr,timeo=4,retrans=10
 ip=dhcp initrd=ubuntu/feisty/initrd.img-2.6.20-15-lowlatency-amd64 rw --

2) Avahi removes the default networking and hence /. It would appear
Busybox is aware of this but Ubuntu's configuration does not:

http://busybox.net/lists/buildroot/2006-December/000803.html

+case $1 in
+ deconfig)
+ grep -q -v ip= /proc/cmdline
+ if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
+ /sbin/ifconfig $interface up
+ fi
+ grep -q -v nfsroot= /proc/cmdline
+ if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
+ /sbin/ifconfig $interface 0.0.0.0
+ fi

3) DHCDBD, NetworkManager and NetworkManagerDispatcher similarly remove
the default networking run from DBUS.

I disabled Avahi and the DBUS event managers with exit 0 at the top of
each script and NFS root functions as expected.

[Bug 111232] Missing Icons in taskbar when Beryl is used...

2007-04-30 Thread ksamvel
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have Kubuntu 7.04 installed on my laptop (fresh install) with Beryl
decorations and effects used. Everything seems to be fine except that
for some reason after boot up some icons in task bar simply do not show
up. For example I have KNetworkManager running automatically and used as
my network tool but icon is not there and if I start an application from
terminal it opens currently running one... unfortunately task bar does
not change its behavior. Or here is another example: Kopete. It connects
automatically but sometimes task bar does not reflect program status:
icon simply is not there. I start Kopete manually and currently running
program is opened.

So, what I do to get Icon in Taskbar:
  1. Kill application
  2. Run it again. [only then icon shows up].

Described bug takes place not very frequently but sometimes it happens
and drives me crazy.

Is it known bug? Does anybody experience the same issues? How can it be
solved?

[Bug 102905] Re: RadRails fails to create new rails projects in Eclipse

2007-04-30 Thread Yves-Eric Martin
OK I think I got things to work much better. I had installed rails using
apt-get (which happen to get me version 1.2.1). Uninstalled that and
reinstalled it using gem instead (now getting version 1.2.3). Updated
the paths in Window - Preferences... - Rails - Configuration to point
to /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/... And now, everything seems to be working
much better. In summary:

sudo apt-get remove rails rake
sudo apt-get install ruby irb ri rdoc ruby1.8-dev build-essential
sudo gem install rails --include-dependencies
sudo gem install mongrel

In Window - Preferences... - Rails - Configuration:
Rails path: /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/rails

[Bug 110917] Maybe it's inttypes.h

2007-04-30 Thread Alysander
Thanks! I see now that the example was not working because fscanf had
simply continued onwards and wasn't finding the information correctly
formatted and hence did not set the value. However, if you correct that
mistake the original problem still exists (file attached).

Furthermore, when compiling with the -Wall -std=c99 options in gcc
4.1.2 (Ubuntu 4.1.2-0ubuntu4) it says:

fscanfbug.c:17: warning: format ‘%d’ expects type ‘int *’, but argument
3 has type ‘int8_t *’

So it appears that the PRId8 macro is being incorrectly defined as d
on my machine when it should in fact be hhd, leading to the byte
overwrites I mentioned initially. Finally, adding the extra two h's
corrects the problem.

Maybe there is a bug in inttypes for AMD Athlon 64 cpus?

[Bug 82203] Re: feisty network-manager unable to connect to WEP wireless

2007-04-30 Thread hggdh
I do not know. I also do not know how to reproduce it.

I am also unsure if this is a n-m issue, or a gnome-keyring one -- or
perhaps the interaction between both. What I know is that I did *not*
have a keyring, and n-m barfed there. I will try to get a machine where
I can play with it, but right now I am quite limited (the only box with
a wireless is my laptop).

Of course, since I had it n-m went thru some revisions, and this might
have changed. I will also try to download the beast and have a look at
it.

[Bug 53923] Important notice: freeze due to new drivers

2007-04-30 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
I installed newer tifm drivers on my system, using the script provided
at http://ubuntulinuxtipstricks.blogspot.com/2007/04/texas-instruments-
sdmmc-card-reader.html, then I run the setpci hack at each system boot
using /etc/rc.local, and use the sdhci module. This makes my card work,
but at reboot, when I log in, gnome freezes until I manually remove the
card, then I reinsert the card, remove the sdhci module, insert it
again, and my system works.

Please feel free to ask any information you need, but please do so
before releasing the fix :)

[Bug 42263] Re: Toolbar display should be Icons and text for consistency

2007-04-30 Thread brettalton
But what about the rest of Firefox? Why do the buttons in Firefox not
match your Gnome or KDE theme?

In OS X or XP, the buttons in your browser correlate to theme you have
chosen... see my ubuntuforums thread here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=418424

Not only should the toolbar match the rest of Ubuntu, but shouldn't the
buttons as well? I don't mind the squared buttons at all, but some new
users might find them quite plain and boring. How easy would
implementing Gnome or KDE buttons into Firefox be?

I've been given links to install different themes or widgets/installers
to fix this, but that's a hack and I think it should be implemented at
the binary level.

I know), but we're not talking about the theme as an add-on, we're
speaking of the GNOME/GTK theme and integrating it with Firefox.

Where are the current Firefox buttons coming from? Why can it not use
the users current Gnome theme? How hard is it to integrate Firefox into
the GTK toolkit? Has Fedora found an answer? (Sorry, I can't read code).

My related ubuntuforums thread is here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=418424. Please see the
screenshots of the buttons I am speaking of. The buttons in which need
integration of Gnome is NOT the back or home button, but rather the
submit and radio buttons.

If you see my post here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2513303postcount=10, you will
see that Firefox can/has integrated itself into the Gnome theme. Who
made this possible? And is it possible to integrate the rest of the
browser and not just the error message?

[Bug 106600] Re: system freeze after activating fglrx (ATI Radeon Mobility X700)

2007-04-30 Thread Etienne Goyer
Could you describe what you mean by system freeze. Ie, what did you
had on screen ? Was it just blank ?

Also, have you tried doing Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to a virtual console,
or Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace to kill the X server ? If you press the CapsLock
key, do the corresponding LED on your keyboard lit ? Basically, I am
trying to determine if your system was hard-locked, or if it was just X
that was in cause.

2007-04-30 Thread ksamvel
** Summary changed:

+ Missing Icons in system tray when Beryl is used...

** Description changed:

  Hi,

I have Kubuntu 7.04 installed on my laptop (fresh install) with Beryl
decorations and effects used. Everything seems to be fine except that
- for some reason after boot up some icons in task bar simply do not show
- up. For example I have KNetworkManager running automatically and used as
- my network tool but icon is not there and if I start an application from
- terminal it opens currently running one... unfortunately task bar does
- not change its behavior. Or here is another example: Kopete. It connects
- automatically but sometimes task bar does not reflect program status:
- icon simply is not there. I start Kopete manually and currently running
- program is opened.

1. Kill application
2. Run it again. [only then icon shows up].

Described bug takes place not very frequently but sometimes it happens

Is it known bug? Does anybody experience the same issues? How can it be

It sounds to me as though this is a different problem entirely from the

no NVidia card present.
