2007-07-07 Thread Paul Dufresne
I think he was refering to RX packets:16548 errors:4953 dropped:0 overruns:0
frame:2953 which seems indeed unusual.
Been a long time, any news on Ubuntu 7.04 (or ideally on Gutsy Tribe-2 CD that
can be found on:

A search for madwify returns lots of bugs.
I note bugs:

[Bug 124530] Disk Mounter applet becomes shy for all desktop sessions except the first after boot

2007-07-07 Thread Glyph Lefkowitz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

I have replicated this on 3 machines with different fstab and disk
configurations, all running Ubuntu Edgy 7.04.

The disk mounter applet shows my partitions as expected when I first log
in.

If I log out, then log back in, as any user, a 1-pixel-wide area on the
panel shows up where I expect to see the disk mount applet, and no
drives (not even those which are dynamically mounted and properly show
up on the desktop or in the computer window in Nautilus) show up
there. /usr/lib/gnome-applets/drivemount_applet2 is running as
expected.

I believe that these other bugs may have been previous reports of the
same issue, and they describe the visual impact, but I have filed a new
bug because they do not specifically describe the behavior with respect
to multiple sessions per boot:

[Bug 124377] Re: [gutsy] Trouble with package dependency (libcurl4-gnutls)

2007-07-07 Thread Mertiki
I confirm this problem

I manually installed the libcurl3-gnutls package so apt-get uninstalled
libcurl4-gnutls and all OpenOffice with it.

But I can't get OpenOffice back because it depends on libcurl4-gnutls.

libcurl4-gnutls depends on libcurl3-gnutls

libcurl3-gnutls is in conflict with libcurl4-gnutls

does libcurl4-gnutls really depends on libcurl3-gnutls ?

[Bug 124532] write error in pwmconfig-script

2007-07-07 Thread marv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lm-sensors

When starting sript pwmconfig, in gives following error info during
execution:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo pwmconfig
Password:
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.

We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.

Found the following PWM controls:
   9191-0290/pwm1
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: line 102: echo: write error: Invalid argument
   9191-0290/pwm2
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: line 102: echo: write error: Invalid argument
   9191-0290/pwm3
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: line 102: echo: write error: Invalid argument

Found the following fan sensors:
   9191-0290/fan1_input current speed: 2250 RPM
   9191-0290/fan2_input current speed: 2280 RPM
   9191-0290/fan3_input current speed: 0 ... skipping!
   9191-0290/fan5_input current speed: 0 ... skipping!

Warning!!! This program will stop your fans, one at a time,
for approximately 5 seconds each!!!
This may cause your processor temperature to rise!!!
If you do not want to do this hit control-C now!!!
Hit return to continue:

Script will go on without any problems, but error info comes several
times.

2007-07-07 Thread Paul Dufresne
Changing status from Incomplete to Confirmed (unanswered question is not
obvious, and you seems to understand yourself among you).
On gutsy, /etc/default/acpi-support have STOP_SERVICES=mysql , but no
STOP_SERVICES=ifplugd .
Bug #49688 is very similar to this one, and confirmed that there is no problem
anymore with MySQL and suspend/resume, I'll let you guys decide
if one needs to become duplicate of the other.

As for knowing if udev and ifplugd are compatible, I am afraid it is
over my head.

[Bug 119295] Re: OpenSSH should support VIA PadLock

2007-07-07 Thread John Steele Scott
The original implementation of --with-ssl-engine doesn't seem to me to
do anything at all, because it relies on an ugly re'#define which is not
included anywhere it's needed. Even with that included in the
appropriate spots, the padlock engine is still not being used.

I've attached a works for me kind of patch. It adds the necessary
includes so that --with-ssl-engine actually does something, and it also
explicitly sets the padlock engine as the preferred cipher provider. Now
I can get throughput of 13.6MB/s when performing the above scp test.

[Bug 124534] Logging on and off with different languages but doesn't switch

2007-07-07 Thread Andrew Fenn
Public bug reported:

To reproduce log n to your user with the Thai language (perhaps any
language?) setting the new language use as only for this session.

Once logged in, logout and then login using the same user name (possibly
any user name?) with the system default language (In my case English
UK).

The Thai text does not change SOME PROGRAMS back to English after I have
logged out of the Thai language and then back in with the English
language.

[Bug 95863] Re: Intel 945 Video 1680X1050 resolution display outside physical dimensions of the monitor

2007-07-07 Thread Michael Greifeneder
I have the same problem as described by Directrix1. I have a Thinkpad X41 and
an external TFT monitor with a 1680x1050 resolution. However monitor menu
information tells me that my monitor is running 1400x1050.
I see the same artifacts. Without anti-aliasing it looks really ugly.

xrandr shows that used resolution is 1680x1050
*0 1680 x 1050 ( 427mm x 267mm ) *60

I can resize firefox with a web developer add-on to 1680x1050 and firefox is
displayed fullsize.
Can it be that there is an internal resolution and the displayed resolution on
my monitor is different?

Is there any progess on this?

Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report and we
are closing it. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it
would make more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.
https://answers.launchpad.net/questions

Please run sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and see if
this solves your problem. If not, please ask in the support tracker.

Seems to me you had given all the requested information and the bug was
forgotten in 'Incomplete' state.
I will keep it as 'Incomplete' however, because I am asking you:
Does this problem still happens with a more recent version?
Ideally, should be tried with Gutsy Tribe-2, for which you can have more info

[Bug 94051] Re: hibernate script tries to unload nvidia binary driver

2007-07-07 Thread Paul Cobbaut
Same problem here, i hope this info helps.
The nvidia driver prevents me from hibernating, switching to nv solves the
problem.
(but the nv driver doesn't work well with the two 1920x1200 screens)

I also think this is related or similar to ubuntu bugs 94332 and 68258.

[Bug 62535] Re: [edgy] network-manager sees usb wifi (rt73usb) as wired net

2007-07-07 Thread Panko
Hello...

I'm having the same problem with a TP-Link TL-WN321G usb wifi using rt73
driver from ralink, and searched the net for information... and have no
results...

I'm not a progammer, so I can't see where's the problem on hal, as you've said
before...
But I'm thinking in possibility to use the hal-device-manager in Feisty to
change the specifications of that device... so, ¿It's possible?

If someone can get specifications of a similar device that works
correctly, possibly I can try to change in hal-device-manager for my
device and see if it works...

P.D.: Sorry if my english is not correct... I'm spanish and only have
basic knowns of that language...

[Bug 124535] dolphin package and data is misnamed d3lphin

2007-07-07 Thread ChrisN
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin

Running kubuntu gutsy tribe 2

Problem: When 'dolphin' is run from terminal or kmenu it does not start
and is reportedly not found on local system.

I have found that entering 'd3lphin' via the terminal starts dolphin
successfully - have for now, altered kmenu command to 'd3lphin'.

Once dolphin is running toolbars cannot be customised. Temporary
solution pending fix is to copy/rename existing 'dolphin' data folder
in ~/.kde/share/apps/ to 'd3lphin' - also need to copy/rename
'dolphinrc' in ~/.kde/share/config/ to 'd3lphin' ~ once this is done
'dolphin' runs perfectly.

I had previously tried purging dolphin and reinstalling from repository

I have installed 2 locales english hindi as I wanna switch between the
two. But now each time, the GDM login screen shows the hindi login
screen when I change I get this message :-

Do you wish to make English (India) the default for future sessions.

You have chosen English (India) for this session, but your default
session is System default

and get this 3 options :-

Just for this Session Cancel Make Default 3 choices.

Choosing Make Default sticks till you don't shutdown. You can logout
login many a times without issues and the choice is retained . But once
you shutdown restart or cold start then you are stuck with the same

[Bug 124480] Re: forbidden characters is filenames are allowed

2007-07-07 Thread Szabolcs Szakacsits
From ntfs-3g upstream: this bug report is invalid.

NTFS has several file namespaces: DOS, WIN32, POSIX. Linux, as a POSIX OS,
always creates files in the POSIX namespace. Characters in the file name
can be anything except '/' and '\0'. These files are accessible via the WIN
API on Windows only if they don't have forbidden characters. To handle
these files on Windows, the same way as on Linux, one needs to install the
Windows Services for Unix (SFU) freely available Microsoft package.

In sort, everything behaves as it was designed. No problem on Linux and all
the files are accessible if SFU is installed on Windows.

If a non-posix file namespace handling is desirable on Linux then I suggest
exporting the NTFS volume via Samba which should have support for
restricting the file namespace to the WIN32 or DOS one.

Thank you for the report, the question will be added to the ntfs-3g support
page.

[Bug 117950] Re: Grey box and error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon on login.

2007-07-07 Thread Shailen Sobhee
Hi, I am currently downloading Gutsy T2, but I am totally perplexed and
taken aback, since Ubuntu Feisty Fawn used to wok well on my pc.

Now it wont even boot in live-cd mode.

Strange strange..
The cd is perfect and the machine seems okay. I have installed windows and the
first tool installed after that was vmware. I tested my downloaded ISO and even
stranger, ubuntu failed on vmware as well.

I am using an Acer TravelMate 2350 Laptop. I remember Ubuntu used to
freeze when i swapped from LCD to CRT ( i couldnt find a prper answer
for this bug, but I fear that this process has affected my hardware,
more precisely an over-charge on my chipset.)

However windows runs perfectly well on the machine. All linux tested
(kubuntu, ubuntu7.04, ubuntu 6.06, vector linux) failed.

Can the Ubuntu developers out there solve this problem? Polemical.

[Bug 64882] Re: Crash when trying to play a movie

2007-07-07 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Thank you for your work. However, it is not obvious to me that these
patches will fix the bug you have attached them to (which is almost
certainly fixed in Gutsy anyway).

If you want them to be applied, could you please file a Use the
gstreamer engine bug, attach the (preferably separate) patches to it,
and most importantly provide an argument for switching backends -
particularly you should explain why gstreamer isn't the upstream
default, and why that doesn't matter for us.

[Bug 124538] Xsession crashes on Startup - Both usual Gnome and XGL

2007-07-07 Thread ulrich
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I just re-installed Ubuntu yesterday on my Notebook. I use Compiz Fusion
(newest) and Emerald. I use the proprietary ATI driver for my Radeon
Mobility 9700. I'm running compiz and emerald in an XGL session usually.
Until yesterday it just worked fine, but when I booted this morning, the
Gnome Session immediately crashed at Boot-Up. Starting a usual Gnome
Session without any startscripts allows me to go online and look for
help on the internet as long as I don't close the Your session didn't
last 10 seconds... window. But so far I haven't found anything that
helps me.

Here's what you can find in my .xsession-errors:

/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/X11R6/bin/sessreg -a -w
/var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers -h -l :0
