[Bug 152687] Re: Problem in Gnome-Alsamixer

2007-10-15 Thread mabovo
ALSA is completely lost. Together with onboard Via8233 AC97 I have this pci
card Soundblaster Live emu10k1 with chipset Sigmatel that Gnome doesn't
recognizes.
To complicate even more I have an Pixelview Pro chipset Conexant with BT878 -
bttv driver with tuner Philips table number 37 where the new released kernel
2.6.22.14-43 doesn't install due to error -22 .
Microphone is another device that ALSA treats as a separate device from sound
system and if I try to plug my usb webcam Logitech Quickcam PRO 5000 with
microphone integrated all together simple Gutsy can't deal with all these sound
devices.
Gnome-alsamixer is just one of many tries I planned to make microphone works on
Gutsy.

[Bug 152999] DPMS cannot suspend monitor in Gutsy

2007-10-15 Thread Dan Lenski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-vesa

I have an ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200] on-
motherboard display adapter. I have to run it with the VESA driver
rather than the ATI driver, due to various problems with the ATI driver
that prevent it from using resolutions above 640x480 with my monitor.

Under Feisty, DPMS worked fine... the monitor would suspend itself
according to the settings in the GNOME Power Management applet.

Under Gutsy, DPMS does not work. The monitor never suspends itself, and
it fails even when explicitly activating DPMS from the command line:

$ xset dpms force off # nothing happens!
$ xset q
...
DPMS (Energy Star):
  Standby: 0Suspend: 0Off: 0
  DPMS is Enabled
  Monitor is On
...

*HOWEVER*, I *can* activate DPMS using vbetool which directly accesses the BIOS:
$ sudo vbetool dpms off # monitor suspends!
$ sudo vebtool dpms on # monitor turns back on!

So I believe this is a problem with the VESA driver. Here are the
relevant portions of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

working on xorg.conf and ati driver 1.6.7.195. There is not symptoms of
garbage in the screen but I think other packages maybe are interfering
with ati driver.

[Bug 153001] Characters are rendering weirdly, across applications

2007-10-15 Thread Loye Young
Public bug reported:

In the last couple or three days (today is October 15, 2007), characters
have begun to behave weirdly (that would be a technical term), on all
applications.

The characters render like fat pipes ( | ) . When I highlight the text,
I can see the characters correctly. Then when I click off, the
characters are back like they're supposed to be. Sometimes, but not
always, the character redraw correctly if I minimize and then restore
the window, or if I update the screen. It doesn't happen consistently,
and there seems to be no pattern. Sometimes, it will happen in the
middle of me typing something. Other times, all is well. As Ricky
Ricardo once said, I can't 'splain it.

Not drop dead problem, but odd. I haven't had an opportunity to check on
other machines.

I'm running Kubuntu Gutsy Beta, on a Dell 5150 laptop. Compiz-core and
compiz-backends are installed, but not configured to do anything gee-
whiz right now. I'm updated to current everything.

Some information below.

[Bug 153000] Default azureus package install broken in Gutsy

2007-10-15 Thread Exquisite Dead Guy
Public bug reported:

If you use Add/Remote to install Sun Java and Azureus, it will run but
is very unstable. It crashes constantly and won't transfer files.

The workaround I found was to download Sun Java from their site, extract
it and copy it to /usr/java/latest, then download Azureus from its
official site and install it manually. If I follow these directions it
works perfectly.

This is with Gutsy amd64

[Bug 152731] Re: [regression] gnome-power-manager laptop backlight not working on VAIO VGN-FSxxx

2007-10-15 Thread Nicolas Joyard
Moreover I think the affected package is not gnome-power-manager,
because I couldn't find any entry in /proc that enabled setting the
brightness (IIRC it was something like /proc/acpi/sony/brightness in
Feisty). I guess the concerned package is the kernel, could someone
please confirm this ?

[Bug 153007] PowerPlay worked in Feisty, no longer works in Gutsy

2007-10-15 Thread Deepak Saxena

This is on an HP/Compaq NC8430 system and I was able to use aticonfig to query

set the power state on Feisty with no problems. Running dpk -l `which

[Bug 153004] Gutsy d4x can't download from rapidshare.

2007-10-15 Thread Janne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: d4x

I recently installed the gutsy beta and found that downloader for x (d4x) can
no longer download from rapidshare.com. Other websites seem to work fine. I
think the problem relates to the program adding an extra slash next to the
first single slash in the link
ie http://rapidshare.com/files/999/file.rar beceomes
http://rapidshare.com//files/999/file.rar
the error in the log is HTTP/1.1 404 not found, which is the same error firefox

[Bug 153003] inode_permission error for cupsd on /dev/tty

2007-10-15 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi,

From dmesg:
[ 895.934627] audit(1192432526.054:4): type=1503 operation=inode_permission
requested_mask=a denied_mask=a name=/dev/tty pid=12476
profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd

I guess cupsd lacks some apparmor permissions to write to the tty.

I now have version 1.3.2-1ubuntu6 of the package, but can't really tell
whether the new or the previous version or the upgrade caused the
message, so if you just fixed such a problem in ubuntu6, please close
this report.

prior to the conf phase. I had to kill apt-get and run it again, and
the upgrade completed. During the upgrade, and just a package or two
prior to the last one, I hit a key on the console to see if it was hung
up, and it echoed properly. This latest batch included an update to
python-apt, but I don't know if that's relevant.

gxlinfo returns - GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE = 1024

script compares VRES and HRES to be less than 1024 and sure fails. Not

[Bug 152975] Re: drag url to folder: drag and drop is not supported

2007-10-15 Thread DH
I am using gutsy, but I saw the same behavior in feisty.

I am talking about when you drag a url from firefox to a folder that already
has links (url shortcuts) in it.
That gives an error, unless you drag on top of a non-link file or find some
empty space in the folder (which
a list view doesn't have if the number of files is equal or more than how many
it can display).

Here is a screencast using istanbul:
http://upload2.net/page/download/CfLJKwEMrzJTw5I/dragdropurls.ogg.html

(btw I couldn't reproduce it when using gtk-recordmyscreen because it
created some kind of invisible window preventing any drag and drop)

[Bug 153011] Restricted Package Manager reports non-existent package is missinglinux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-server + other problems with screens and graphics utility, and nvidia-settings

2007-10-15 Thread Mellotron
Public bug reported:

The bug:
When attempting to open the Restricted Drivers Manager, a dialogue box returns
this message:
[quote]
You need to install the package

linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-server

for this program to work.[/quote]
No such package exists to what I could find. Confirmation of a forum user
confirmed that he could not find the package in either fiesty, or gutsy.
Furthermore, a search on google returns a single sight written in chinese. He
has no response yet.
This bug is also tied to the Screens and Graphics utility, and the
nvidia-settings program as well.

My original goal that led to this problem:
Setup dual monitors in gutsy, having fusion on both, but generating a seperate
cube for both.
My setup:
Amd64 version of gutsy, thus amd64 repositories
2 * Nividia geforce 7600gs's, one crt monitor plugged into each.

My drivers were originally working nicely with proprietary version,
however setting up dual monitors originally through Screens and
Graphics was a heartfelt pain, as it led to many a crash, and many a
altered/botched xorg.conf. A suspicion I have leading to some of the
errors I was getting is the fact that my crt drivers arent found in the
default repo, and I had to download them. Because of this, everytime I
run the util, I have to re-add them again. It would be nice if the
program could let me know where to save my drivers, and furthermore, if
it would add mine automatically.

I was trying everything to get this to work, and eventually decided to
try swapping the glx drivers with the glx-new drivers. Once I did this,
is when I gander that my programs started returning these wierd errors.

nvidia-settings returned this error
[quote]You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X
configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X
server. [/quote] When I run the suggested command however, it does nothing but
botch my xorg for next time I want to log in.

Re: [Bug 152537] Re: After update from Feisty to Gutsy RC, print jobs fail: /usr/lib/cups/backend/mfp failed

2007-10-15 Thread Pietro Piutti
2007/10/14, Till Kamppeter [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Looks like a problem caused by the AppArmor protection of CUPS. Can you
attach your /var/log/syslog and also the output of the dmesg command?
To deactivate the protection you can run sudo aa-complain cupsd. Are
you able to print then? To reactivate the protection, run sudo aa-
 enforce cupsd.

Till, seems that you were right.

Today I updated Gutsy with the latest patches, without changing
anything in the AppArmor settings. Tried to print, but it failed
again, same error. I attach syslog and dmesg outputs as generated
after unsuccesful print attempts.

Then I followed Till's suggestion and set AppArmor to compain mode:
print jobs completed successfully afterwards.

I then reactivated the protection with aa-enforce, tried to print
again expecting the print job to fail, but they worked instead!

Hope you now have enough info to understand what happened and possibly
fix the issue.

[Bug 153015] KDE redraw is extremelly slugish in Gutsy

2007-10-15 Thread Deepak Saxena
Public bug reported:

I don't really have any detailed analysis at the moment, but from a pure user
experience POV, KDE is extremely painful to use in Gutsy w/o compiz enabled.
Redraws are taking forever and when
running multiple applications (konqueror, kterm, konversation, etc) this makes
the system almost
unusable. When I run compiz, everything is OK, but since kde-window-decorator
just dies when
I run compiz (see 129801, 145857), that's not a proper workaround either.

HW is an ATI X1600 (as reported via flgrxinfo) running the ATI drivers.

[Bug 109282] Re: kdm restarting server causes loss of drm

2007-10-15 Thread Gilles
Hello,

After further testing, The line BusID has nothing to do with this issue.
In fact, KDM, by default, doesn't restart the X server after you log out and
drm doesn't like it.

TerminateServer
Whether kdm should restart the local X-Server after session exit instead of
resetting it. Use this if the X-Server leaks memory or crashes the system on
reset attempts.
The default is “false”.

You must force the X server to restart after each session ends up by adding
this line in your kdmrc file :
in the stanza [X-:*-Core]
TerminateServer=true
