[Bug 152999] DPMS cannot suspend monitor in Gutsy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-vesa I have an ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200] on- motherboard display adapter. I have to run it with the VESA driver rather than the ATI driver, due to various problems with the ATI driver that prevent it from using resolutions above 640x480 with my monitor. Under Feisty, DPMS worked fine... the monitor would suspend itself according to the settings in the GNOME Power Management applet. Under Gutsy, DPMS does not work. The monitor never suspends itself, and it fails even when explicitly activating DPMS from the command line: $ xset dpms force off # nothing happens! $ xset q ... DPMS (Energy Star): Standby: 0Suspend: 0Off: 0 DPMS is Enabled Monitor is On ... *HOWEVER*, I *can* activate DPMS using vbetool which directly accesses the BIOS: $ sudo vbetool dpms off # monitor suspends! $ sudo vebtool dpms on # monitor turns back on! [Bug 153001] Characters are rendering weirdly, across applications
Public bug reported: In the last couple or three days (today is October 15, 2007), characters have begun to behave weirdly (that would be a technical term), on all applications. The characters render like fat pipes ( | ) . When I highlight the text, I can see the characters correctly. Then when I click off, the characters are back like they're supposed to be. Sometimes, but not always, the character redraw correctly if I minimize and then restore the window, or if I update the screen. It doesn't happen consistently, and there seems to be no pattern. Sometimes, it will happen in the middle of me typing something. Other times, all is well. As Ricky Ricardo once said, I can't 'splain it. Not drop dead problem, but odd. I haven't had an opportunity to check on other machines. I'm running Kubuntu Gutsy Beta, on a Dell 5150 laptop. Compiz-core and compiz-backends are installed, but not configured to do anything gee- whiz right now. I'm updated to current everything. Some information below. [Bug 153000] Default azureus package install broken in Gutsy
Public bug reported: If you use Add/Remote to install Sun Java and Azureus, it will run but is very unstable. It crashes constantly and won't transfer files. I was using xterm when I got the above results. However, just a few minutes ago, I ran another upgrade (apt-get dist- upgrade) on the linux console, without any X running. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: migration-assistant In the Gutsy RC, the migration assistant shows a confusing dialog when it fails to unmount /mnt/migrationassistant. [Bug 153011] Restricted Package Manager reports non-existent package is missinglinux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-server + other problems with screens and graphics utility, and nvidia-settings
Public bug reported: The bug: When attempting to open the Restricted Drivers Manager, a dialogue box returns this message: [quote] You need to install the package linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-server for this program to work.[/quote] No such package exists to what I could find. Confirmation of a forum user confirmed that he could not find the package in either fiesty, or gutsy. Furthermore, a search on google returns a single sight written in chinese. He has no response yet. This bug is also tied to the Screens and Graphics utility, and the nvidia-settings program as well. My original goal that led to this problem: Setup dual monitors in gutsy, having fusion on both, but generating a seperate cube for both. My setup: Amd64 version of gutsy, thus amd64 repositories 2 * Nividia geforce 7600gs's, one crt monitor plugged into each. My drivers were originally working nicely with proprietary version, however setting up dual monitors originally through Screens and Graphics was a heartfelt pain, as it led to many a crash, and many a altered/botched xorg.conf. A suspicion I have leading to some of the errors I was getting is the fact that my crt drivers arent found in the default repo, and I had to download them. Because of this, everytime I run the util, I have to re-add them again. It would be nice if the program could let me know where to save my drivers, and furthermore, if it would add mine automatically. I was trying everything to get this to work, and eventually decided to try swapping the glx drivers with the glx-new drivers. Once I did this, is when I gander that my programs started returning these wierd errors. nvidia-settings returned this error [quote]You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server. [/quote] When I run the suggested command however, it does nothing but botch my xorg for next time I want to log in. Re: [Bug 152537] Re: After update from Feisty to Gutsy RC, print jobs fail: /usr/lib/cups/backend/mfp failed
2007/10/14, Till Kamppeter [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Looks like a problem caused by the AppArmor protection of CUPS. Can you attach your /var/log/syslog and also the output of the dmesg command? To deactivate the protection you can run sudo aa-complain cupsd. Are you able to print then? To reactivate the protection, run sudo aa- enforce cupsd. Till, seems that you were right. Today I updated Gutsy with the latest patches, without changing anything in the AppArmor settings. Tried to print, but it failed again, same error. I attach syslog and dmesg outputs as generated after unsuccesful print attempts. Then I followed Till's suggestion and set AppArmor to compain mode: print jobs completed successfully afterwards. I then reactivated the protection with aa-enforce, tried to print again expecting the print job to fail, but they worked instead! [Bug 109282] Re: kdm restarting server causes loss of drm
Hello, After further testing, The line BusID has nothing to do with this issue. In fact, KDM, by default, doesn't restart the X server after you log out and drm doesn't like it. TerminateServer Whether kdm should restart the local X-Server after session exit instead of resetting it. Use this if the X-Server leaks memory or crashes the system on reset attempts. The default is “false”. You must force the X server to restart after each session ends up by adding this line in your kdmrc file : in the stanza [X-:*-Core] TerminateServer=true -- kdm restarting server causes loss of drm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109282 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
