[Bug 189490] Re: gnome-app-install crashed with AttributeError in modifyUserInterface()

2008-02-11 Thread sam tygier
Dennis, the status is set to fix committed. this means the developer has
fixed the code. now we just need to wait for the fixed version to be
released. there may not be a new version just to fix this single bug.
most likely the dev will fix other things as well before making the
release.

so it could be a few days or weeks before a new version reaches the
repos.

That's very true, I'll ask around if anyone have been trying to get this

[Bug 190876] [NEW] wav file doesn't play properly on gusty-64

2008-02-11 Thread janevert
Public bug reported:

My wife has this mp3 player that can also records memos.
She's got a laptop with 32-bit feisty and it plays the recordings just fine.
My laptop, with 64-bit gutsy, plays it all in stutters and hiccups.

And my laptop plays other (mp3) files just fine. Also realplayer has no
problems making normal noises and sounds.
Just to make sure I converted the WAV file to an mp3 on the feisty laptop. It
plays just fine on mine.

The file is reported to be:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ file MIC3.WAV
MIC3.WAV: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, IMA ADPCM, mono 8000 Hz
I can provide a small recording, if you like.

I've tried with quite a few audio players and converters on gutsy and
they all fail.

I'm guessing this is a 32bit vs 64bit issue. I just don't know in what
package.

I've had this happen twice now and noticed it was when I was trying to

way to avoid it in the future if it's related to hibernation? I've fixed
it twice now on two different computers. One time I used the grub

Same for me after upgrade to version 2.0.0.12. First times it worked

And so, from shell I launched strace firefox and I got same results

After restart of system, firefox works, but obviously I lost all my

[Bug 190877] [NEW] Thunderbird loses drafts under certain circumstances

2008-02-11 Thread baltho
Public bug reported:

I've configured thunderbird to redirect everything to Local Folders, so email
from various accounts appears in the same place. I saved a draft of an email,
and it seemed to save with no problems, but actually disappeared without a

I worked out that I hadn't told each account to individually save drafts in

would be nice if, when removing a top-level directory from the program, any

email still there in some hidden place?)

[Bug 120687] Re: Caseless collate sequence in en_GB.UTF8

2008-02-11 Thread Colin Watson
Personally I like LC_COLLATE=C and set it everywhere, and I can see why
people want to set this in the installer. However, when this has come up
in the past, the problem has been that GUI users object; with some
justification, they want the sort order in GUI applications to match
that defined for their language. en_GB users largely don't care, but in
other languages it makes much more of a difference.

Is there a good way to set LC_COLLATE=C for shell users but not for GUI
programs other than putting it in one's shell configuration? I don't
think so at present.

2008-02-11 Thread vmagnin
I had exactly the same problem for more than one year (7.10, 7.04,

printing more than a simple text, the printer seemed to be saturated...
I tried several drivers but none was perfect. And the Postscript driver
was recommended...

I just reinstalled my printer with the hpijs driver and it seems to
work, even with big PDF files.

Thank you for this advice. I will not be forced anymore to print using
another PC.

[Bug 89746] Re: HP Pavilion dv6103eu laptop - all Ubuntu versions gets frozen during X startup until I specify noapic boot option

2008-02-11 Thread Marcus
It looks like there is a patch in 2.6.24-git21 (or earlier) for this
problem.

Have a look at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8870 or the
changelog for the latest kernel at www.kernel.org and search for
io_delay

[Bug 190954] [NEW] Some compose sequences are not available

2008-02-11 Thread Evgeny nekr0z Kuznetsov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkb-data

It is supposed that /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose lists all
of the compose sequences that are available in corresponding locale. In
Ubuntu, not all of those are available.

Some examples include ĉ (c with circumflex) that is supposed to be
produced using MultiKey-^-c, ĝ (g with circumflex) that is supposed to
be MultiKey-^-g and ™ (trademark sign), supposedly MultiKey-t-m. There
are many more non-working sequences.

I think we either need to strip that file of non-working sequences, so
that it can be actually used as a reference, or else (and much better)
make the non-working sequences work.

Issue is present on all versions of Ubuntu I've ever used (since 5.10 up
to current Hardy Alpha).

Sure, I've typed in our CUPS server's hostname and then chosen a queue from
the list it provides. Click next and nothing happens for a while, then out
comes the error window with not much useful information.
Thinking of it, this might of course have nothing at all to do with the PPD
source, but with IPP in general...

PS.

I think the system should try to download the PPD automatically from the
server, but that's another story.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't
include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report
 bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd
be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
 problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
 http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
 At a minimum, we need:
 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
 problem,
 2. the behavior you expected, and
 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
 Thanks!

[Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version?

2008-02-11 Thread Brian Murray
Maritn - What is the intent of the Dapper and Edgy tasks in this bug?
flashplugin-nonfree is at 7.0 for both Dapper and Edgy at the moment bug
9.0 exists in the -backports repositories for both of them. If this is
something that becomes fixed via -backports would the Dapper and Edgy
tasks the become Fix Released even though they aren't generally
available or should the tasks stay at Confirmed?

[Bug 191051] [NEW] \texttt doesn't work with \verb inside

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: texlive

Latex code like this:

\texttt{\verb#\#n}

will be rendered as:

#n

when using pdflatex to generate pdf from latex source.

I believe that \texttt can't find \verb# in it's context. So, \verb#
won't be parsed and latex will parse the resulting \#n generating the
wrong output.

[Bug 191058] [NEW] Cannot install 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly'

2008-02-11 Thread HenkKas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

First I am sorry to say I am only just new at ubuntu and/or Linux and not a
very well experienced like most of you seem.
Nevertheless, I try explain my problem here and maybe someone knows how to
handle this problem.

I have ubuntu amd64 installed next to Windows XP.
I tried to watch movie with Totem movie Player, but it said it must download
some codecs.
Then it lead me to GStreamer Extra Plugs Add-on.

When I tried installing the Add-on, I got the message:

  Cannot install 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly'

This application conflicts with other installed software.
To install 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' the conflicting software must be
removed first.

Switch to the 'synaptic' package manager to resolve this conflict.

So what do I have to do in 'synaptic' package manager, to resolve this
problem?

[Bug 126337] Re: IDE drivers not loaded at boot with powerpc

2008-02-11 Thread Brian Gr
A workaround for my Rev-B 20 1.8ghz G5 iMac which doesn't get cd
detection, involved the use of two cdrom/dvd drives to get Hardy Alpha
installed.

I attached a firewire cdrom and burnt two copies of the install iso and
placed them in each drive. I booted from the internal drive by holding
down the C key, and the installer starts. Once hardy gets to the
point of not being able to detect the internal drive, install picks
right up from the firewire drive which also has a copy of the alpha in
it.

In the end, I have no internal cdrom detection, but at least the alpha
is installed. Note that I couldn't actually just boot from the external
firewire cdrom drive, so I had to do this tricky dual-disk setup
initially.

Unfortunately for me, it doesn't seem like G5 thermal support is
working, so the exhaust fans just scream making alpha testing
unbearable. Bug filed - maybe no g5_defconfig? Anyway, that's a
different bug post.

I'll try the modprobe techniques to see if I can get the cdrom detected
post-install.

[Bug 191064] [NEW] Set midbrowser as the default URL handler for HTTPS

2008-02-11 Thread Steve Magoun
Public bug reported:

crown-beach-config sets midbrowser as the default URL handler for HTTP
URLs. It needs to do the same for HTTPS URLs.

I noticed that Liferea can open HTTP URLs in the browser, but not HTTPS
URLs (like articles from the Ubuntu Fridge, which is one of the default
Liferea feeds). The problem is that Firefox is the default browser, and
we override it for HTTP URLs only.

To reproduce:
gnome-open http://www.google.com (works)
gnome-open https://www.google.com (doesn't work)

To fix, add this to debian/postinst:
su - ume -c gconftool-2 -s -t string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/https/command
'midbrowser %s'

** Affects: crown-beach-config (Ubuntu)

[Bug 190627] Re: Firefox looses focus when download finishes

2008-02-11 Thread Nikolaus Rath
Hello,

Except for ubufox I don't have any extensions. My firefox version is
2.0.0.12. This very launchpad page can be used as an example. Try to
type your comment while downloading a file - as soon as the download
finishes, your keystrokes will no longer produce any text in the
textbox.

[Bug 188181] Re: Gutsy: dpkg: syntax error: Unknown group 'debian-exim' in statoverridefile

2008-02-11 Thread Gregory Theodosis
Thank you for the quick response.
It might have to do with JAVA 6 update that i did [web update].
The only other thing i can think of would be the BASTILLE hardening package
that i installed.
I'm not exactly sure what happened.
I've only switched to the Linux OS 6 weeks ago.
Thanks again.

[Bug 92139] Re: Init script causing unclean DB shutdown

2008-02-11 Thread Steve Langasek
This bug has been fixed in hardy. Changelog:

 openldap2.3 (2.4.7-5) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   [ Updated debconf translations ]
   * Finnish, thanks to Esko Arajärvi [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Closes: #462688.
   * Galician, thanks to Jacobo Tarrio [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Closes: #462987.
   * French, thanks to Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED].
 Closes: #463149.
   * Russian, thanks to Yuri Kozlov [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Closes: #463442.
   * Czech, thanks to Miroslav Kure [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Closes: #463472.
   * German, thanks to Helge Kreutzmann [EMAIL PROTECTED].
 Closes: #464718.
 .
   [ Steve Langasek ]
   * Fix various regressions related to the introduction of GnuTLS:
 - Add new patch, gnutls-ciphers, to fix support for specifying multiple
ciphers with TLSCipherSuite option in slapd.conf. Thanks to Kyle
Moffett [EMAIL PROTECTED] for the patch. Closes LP: #188200.
 - Add new patch, slapd-tlsverifyclient-default, to set the intended
default value of TLSVerifyClient never in the right place.
 - Add new patch, gnutls-altname-nulterminated, to account for differences
in how the length is returned for commonName vs. subjectAltName.
 - Comment out TLSCipherSuite settings on upgrade from all versions prior
to 2.4.7-5, and throw a debconf error to the user notifying them of
this, since all OpenSSL cipher suite values are incompatible with
   GnuTLS.
 Closes: #462588.
   * Add new patch from upstream, entryCSN-backwards-compatibility, to support
auto-converting entryCSN attributes in a previously supported old format,
fixing an upgrade failure. Closes: #462099.
   * Use --retry TERM/10 instead of --retry 10 when stopping slapd, since the
latter resorts to a SIGKILL and may corrupt backend data; whereas the
former will exit non-zero if slapd is still running but won't directly
cause data-loss. Thanks to Mark McDonald for the patch. LP: #92139.
   * Fix manpage symlinks in libldap2-dev; thanks to Reuben Thomas for
 reporting. Closes: #463971.
   * Fix a superfluous space in the debconf templates, due to a trailing space
 in the templates. Closes: #464719.
