[Bug 203433] [NEW] cp command doesn't preserve selinux context

2008-03-18 Thread tgelter
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: coreutils

Attempting to demonstrate the power of selinux I tried the following
demo (works in RHEL):

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/www# ls -lZ /etc/shadow
-rw-r-+ 1 root shadow system_u:object_r:shadow_t 1193 2008-03-17 17:55
/etc/shadow
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/www# cp -a /etc/shadow .
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/var/www# ls -lZ shadow
-rw-r-+ 1 root shadow unconfined_u:object_r:var_t 1193 2008-03-17 17:55
shadow

As you can observe, while the cp -a (cp -p obviously is no different) preserves
ownership and permissions, the selinux context is not preserved.
This has been flagged as a potential security risk because, as you can see,
selinux becomes quite useless if contexts can't be preserved while copying
things around.
Note: the mv command preserves the selinux context as expected.

2008-03-18 Thread brownknight
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I am using Gutsy on a Dell E1505. I did a dist-upgrade -d to Hardy today

release it, the page is still scrolling. If I did an up down up down
scroll, the page lags behind.

[Bug 140051] Re: xf86-video-amd: fails to autoconfigure

2008-03-18 Thread ckranich
Hello Martin-Éric,

Thank you very much for the precompiled packets!
(With the help of them even a linux newbee like me was able to get it running)

Beside saying thank you I wanted to report back that Xorg starts successfully on
aValue ECM-LX800 3.5 CPU module (LX800 chipset and Phoenix Award Bios 6.00PG)

The only issue I got is that together with IceWM the button faces and window
title bars show
garbage (or even a copy of the CPU load graphics!). But possibly this is an
issue of my
IceWM setup (running on top of a Ubuntu Gutsy server for minimal footprint)
I will test other windowmanagers too to see if the issue is IceWm-specific

Kind Regards,

Christian

[Bug 119180] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] OOo started with -headless exits with 0 on errors, breaking scriptability

2008-03-18 Thread Chris Cheney
Actually even though it doesn't look like it is running it is at least
on Ubuntu hardy. It only runs one instance of openoffice but tells it to
open the port, etc.

I was able to tell this by running:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsof -n | grep 8100

soffice.b 24548ccheney 52u IPv42051019 TCP
127.0.0.1:8100 (LISTEN)

So I am marking this bug as Fix Released. If after upgrading you
continue to have this problem of not being able to actually connect to
OOo in headless mode, not that it doesn't show up in ps (which is not a
bug), then please feel free to reopen the bug.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

I'm seeing a slight variation on this in Hardy: I can't swtich away from
the first configured layout using the keyboard shortcut. If I click the
keyboard indicator applet to switch to the second layout, cycling
further through the list using the keyboard shortcut works fine until I
reach the first layout again (tested with two, three and four layouts).

[Bug 155360] Re: Bootup Kernel Panic with Netgear MA521 PCMCIA Wifi card

2008-03-18 Thread motorbelly
Well made a live CD and tried but it didn't recognize the MA521 card.
Remembering I had to use a WinXP driver and ndiswrapper to get it to
work I decided to just upgrade the Omnibook 6000 to 8.04 alpha 6
directly and see what happens.

IT WORKS!

Re: [Bug 186164] [NEW] latex: multiple texmf.cnf files do not work correctly

2008-03-18 Thread Norbert Preining
On Mo, 17 Mär 2008, Hans Georg wrote:
What's undisputably undocumented (or misdocumented) is the fact that
kpsewhich and kpsewhere do not find the same file (as first hit).

Huu? Example please? They do *different* things. kpsewhich gives the
file as found by the kpse lib, while kpsewhere to (from the man page):
kpsewhere - Expanding kpsewhich to separately iterate over each texmf

So it is not surprising that they find different files, kpsewhere will
find more files. Files can be shadowed by putting a file of the same
name into a higher order directory, that is a feature.

[Bug 118935] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] openoffice page numbering does not allow page offset

2008-03-18 Thread Chris Cheney
It works but the 'proper' way to do it is so unintuitive that no regular
user will probably ever find out how to do it.

I have opened a new bug about the fact the way to do it properly is
very non-intuitive:

go to the first paragraph on the first page (it can be a heading).
Format - Paragraph - Text Flow. In part Breaks mark Insert and
With Page Style and set the starting page number you want.

Also could you please attach the logfiles from /var/log/dist-upgrade.

[Bug 185854] Re: Setting static IP in Network Settings doesn't produce correct data

2008-03-18 Thread Shawn vega
I think i'm having the same / similar problem because when i set it to a
static ip it won't connect to the network and when i type ifconfig it
says it has a inet6 address so i think when we type an ipaddress it
automaticly converts it to ip6 when the router only knows ip4 and i
think that's the problem.

[Bug 203442] [NEW] NM disconnect Wi-fi Lan after some time

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 with and USB Wi-Fi adapter (Digicom USB Wave
64) that I always use to connect to a Wi-Fi LAN. Network Manager
connects to that LAN and I can surf the internet, normally. Sometimes,
internet is not provided from NM but I can see the blue bars, as if NM
is connected. I can't use internet, so I always have to click on the NM
applet, select the Wi-Fi Lan again and reconnect. This happens about
every hour.

[Bug 184296] Re: [Gutsy] X crash at startup when Xinerama is enabled (radeon)

2008-03-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
aidave, your issue is that you are mixing some drivers (like nvidia)
which support Xinerama, with drivers which support Xrandr (ati radeon).
You need to use drivers which all use Xinerama, so you need to revert to
an older -ati, like version 6.6.3 from Feisty. Then it will work.
Presumably Mandriva is still using the old deprecated Xinerama-based
drivers and it too will fail when Mandriva catches up to current Xrandr-
based drivers.

in $TEXMFDBS, then kpsewhere searches the tree whereas kpsewhich does
not. Thus kpsewhich finds nothing, and kpsewhere finds the single
matching file.

[Bug 201002] Re: error when updating libqt3-mt

2008-03-18 Thread honorshark
This comes up on EVERY 7.10 update (after a new install). So it says,
new updates avaliable, then you start the update process. It will fail
nearly ~45% at the qt3 package, and you have to finish it in a terminal.
Just type sudo apt-get upgrade (and it will continue) and then press Y
to accept the maintainer package.

So. This is occuring on a single update (on i386 + amd64 too), not when
you upgrade to 8.04 (I don't tried this method).

If you want, I will attach the log tomorrow. (Cause I can't access my pc
from here)

[Bug 203448] [NEW] audacity audio device

2008-03-18 Thread Chris Woollard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacity

Audacity Version - 1.3.4-1ubuntu1
Ubuntu Release: 8.04

I am currently testing the latest version of ubuntu.

The problem that i have is that the playback devices seem to vanish
after a short while using Audacity.

Restarting Audacity does not fix the issue. I have to restart the whole
pc. But sound seems to work fine within Ubuntu.

So ii am not really sure if this is an Ubuntu issue or an Audacity
issue.

[Bug 203449] [NEW] [dovecot] [CVE-2008-1199, CVE-2008-1218] privilege escalation

2008-03-18 Thread hk47
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: dovecot

References:
DSA-1516-1 (http://www.debian.org/security/2008/dsa-1516)

Quoting:
Prior to this update, the default configuration for Dovecot used by
Debian runs the server daemons with group mail privileges. This means
that users with write access to their mail directory by other means
(for example, through an SSH login) could read mailboxes owned by
other users for which they do not have direct write access
(CVE-2008-1199). In addition, an internal interpretation conflict in
password handling has been addressed proactively, even though it is
not known to be exploitable (CVE-2008-1218).

Note that applying this update requires manual action: The
configuration setting mail_extra_groups = mail has been replaced
with mail_privileged_group = mail. The update will show a
configuration file conflict in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf. It is
recommended that you keep the currently installed configuration file,
and change the affected line. For your reference, the sample
configuration (without your local changes) will have been written to
/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf.dpkg-new.

If your current configuration uses mail_extra_groups with a value
different from mail, you may have to resort to the
mail_access_groups configuration directive.

[Bug 203452] [NEW] small typo preventing gnome-power-manager to be updated

2008-03-18 Thread Albrecht Gebhardt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

A small typo in /usr/share/acpi-support/FUJITSU SIEMENS.config prevents
gnome-power-manager to be updated to 2.22.0-0ubuntu1, obviously its
postinstall script runs into this typo. Maybe because I'm using a
Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook (but not that which is mentioned in the line
with the error, I have a FSC Lifebook P7120).

Fix is attached (use only on ) in case statement).

working.
When i try to run one (eg, tomboy, gnome-do, f-spot) in terminal i get

[Bug 203305] Re: [iwl3945] cannot connect with network manager 0.6.6-0ubuntu1

2008-03-18 Thread stereoit
Hello, today I tried at company. There is WPA-PSK network 'AnriGuest',
it is visible in list of networks. When I try to connect, it was doing
nothing (well showing the two gray dots and some animation around them)
for at least five minutes, then I plugged in eth cable and selected (had
to) 'Wired' network from nm-applet.

Attached relevant part of daemon.log, please let me know if there is
anything I should help with as this is rendereing NM useless at least
for the moment.

Btw, I noticed yesterday there was wpa_supplicant running with
controlling interface at /var/run/wpa_supplicant-global, but I couldn't
connect to it with:

sudo wpa_cli -p /var/run/wpa_supplicant-global

is this supposed to work? Today ps ax|grep wpa showed nothing. Wierd.

I did purge and reinstall latest version of network-manager and network-
manager-gnome.

[Bug 203455] [NEW] Match progress bar with Clearlooks/Murrine one

2008-03-18 Thread Fabio Berta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash-theme-ubuntu

Since we're now using Clearlooks or Murrine as the systems gtk engine, it would
make sense to adjust usplash to match this. Specifically the progress bars
should use the same colors and style as the Clearlooks or Murrine ones. Of
course it needs to be decided first which one of them is gonna be the default.
But right now it looks kinda wierd, to have ubuntulooks progress bar in usplash
and a completely different one in the gtk engine!

[Bug 202814] Re: Resume from standby works with pm-suspend but not with standard ubuntu/gnome actions (with fglrx-driver from restricted modules)

2008-03-18 Thread Bernhard Gehl
Well, I played around with the quirks a litte (nice collection of useful
info, thanks!) but I am not sure if that leads to anything since pm-
suspend without any called quirks suspends and resumes fine - so no
quirks should be necessary, right?

Somewhere in one of the fdi files I found some LG-specific settings (S3
stuff), tried them and found my laptop crashing badly. Also I
experimented with the .none antiquirk but to no avail. It still seems
like someone/-thing calls for vbe_post when I call the suspend function
of g-p-m even though HAL knows what to do without any quirks. (Oh, by
the way: Suspend/Resume works fine with the VESA driver.)

Is there a way to track that down? Any typical culprits besides HAL?

Sorry for being difficult, but this bug is seriously gnawing at my
nerves...

There isn't. The only thing we can do is to disable the patch in
PolicyKit now and enable it again right before the release.
