[Bug 204983] [NEW] gnome screensaver fade ignores mouse movement on first execution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver gnome-screensaver-2.21.6-0ubuntu3 using Hardy (beta) on an IBM ThinkPad R51 ati rv250 laptop. on a fresh desktop login (after either reboot or logout) the initial fade into screesaver cannot be interrupted by trackpoint or touchpad motion.the mouse pointer remains responsive during this fade and the screensaver can be interrupted at any point after the fade is complete. tested with compiz enabled and disabled. tested with screensaver themes 'Blank Screen' and 'Flurry'. *not* tested with any non-integrated pointing devices. not sure if this actually a 'feature' or not, but it might get annoying if the display is set to lock on screensaver. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome screensaver fade ignores mouse movement on first execution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 204959] Re: Please sync xapian-bindings 1.0.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
sistpoty ScottK2: there are two rdepends... did the API change? sistpoty (in an incompatible way) Just to clarify (as debian packager and an upstream Xapian developer), xapian-core 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 are both API and ABI compatible (in general, Xapian 1.X.Y and 1.X.Z should be both ABI and API compatible, although we messed up with 1.0.0 and regrettably had to break the ABI for 1.0.1). The reason that xapian-bindings needs a versioned build-dep on libxapian-dev is that it uses the C++ API more exhaustively than other dependent packages, and minor releases of xapian-core often extend the API/ABI. It's worth noting that using matching xapian-core and xapian-bindings versions gets a lot more testing too. I'd like to add to my findings. I had tried turning off compiz, and even my nvidia-glx-new driver, and neither fixed the issue. I found that the only resolution to fix this issue is to right click on the clock and go to preferences, and then set a location. Once that was accomplished, the temperature and weather icon showed next to the clock, and now clicking on the clock does not cause lockups. I hope this helps any others that have the same problem, I consider this to still be a bug though, due to the fact that this is an undesired action. -- hardy beta amd 64 selecting gnome panel intlclock causes top bar and many other things to not respond https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204775 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 201887] Re: Slim USB Apple Keyboard not working correctly..
Uh, this is nonsense, it worked a week ago! And I bought this keyboard because it has comfortable keys, not because I want it to behave like a mac or something. I think most users under linux need the F* keys quite often, be it for F11 (fullscreen), F2 (rename), alt-F2, alt-F3 (deskbar), F1 (help), and so on. Yeah well this is what i was thinking too. Look at bug 201711. Quoting the mailing list that it was turned down on: My experience is that the majority of users who run Linux on Apple hardware are also used to MacOS, and so maintaining consistency with it is worthwhile. That's entirely independent of the fact that altering this in the kernel would change the default behaviour of the system for users who are upgrading, which would be highly confusing. Apple hardware tends to be intrinsically different to other PC hardware, and we're limited in our abilities to make it behave identically - the glaring lack of more than one mouse button is an obvious example of this. -- Slim USB Apple Keyboard not working correctly.. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201887 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I rebuilt Audio.so from the source distribution and replaced the file in /usr/lib/wsjt, wsjt seems to work okay now. jeff -- wsjt dumps core when started https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163396 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 187547] Re: nautilus eat memory, locks desktop
I can confirm this bug, Its rather crippling...it can be reproduced by opening a nautilus window and changing directory by double clicking a folder. The hang also occurs sporadically when there is an open nautilus window. When the hang occurs, it takes ~14 seconds to eat through my 4 Gb of ram, after which my computer becomes increasingly unresponsive. I attached gdb to nautilus by the command: gdb nautilus 7779 The only interesting message was: 0xe410 in ?? () from /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 which occured before I induced the hang in nautilus then obtained a backtrace after inducing the error. sadly, the backtrace is identical to a backtrace performed when nautilus is not failing: (gdb) bt #0 0xe410 in ?? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic I was upgrading from gutsy (with Linux 2.6.22-14) to the latest alpha last sunday (16.03.2008), and I've got some problems with the kernel. The 2.6.24-12-generic (I think, may be -386) causes my machine to lock up (hard) after about 5 minutes. Generally I was under X, there is no specific program I was using at the time it locked up. The hardware is completely stable has been for the last 3 years with ubuntu, and still is with hardy the gutsy kernel. Alexander, I see that this has a component filed against xorg-server; could you explain what is needed to be done at the xorg-server level? If it is just the question about the XAA code, I'm not sure I follow the question, could you ask the question again in more detail? In general, XAA is in the process of being deprecated in favor of EXA. In some drivers like -intel we've already mostly switched over to EXA, and won't be investigating XAA bugs. If the issue is particular to an XAA-using driver that won't be switched over to EXA, we could look into that but would need to know more details (like which driver and card pci id are involved). -- web page background render errors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 204997] [NEW] xfwm4-4.4.2-1ubuntu3~gutsy+ppa won't use super as modifier.
Public bug reported: System: (X)ubuntu Gutsy amd64. Upgraded to xfwm4-4.4.2-1ubuntu3~gutsy+ppa, via the Xubuntu team ppa repositories (https://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-team/+archive). Window manager no longer accepts super (ie. the Windows key) as a modifier, instead treats it as a single key for the purpose of keyboard shortcuts. [Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups
Ok, so I don't pretend to understand everything in this post. If you, like me, simply want to avoid delays logging in with ssh, stop avahi. For me, a simple ssh server took about 10 secs. Running with ssh -o GSSAPIAuthentication=no server brought that delay down to nothing. If that is also true for you: Disable avahi on the client like this: $ sudo /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon stop Made it login without delay with or without GSSAPIAuthentication=no. Until the next reboot, where avahi will be restarted. Disable avahi permanently by setting AVAHI_DAEMON_START=1 in /etc/default/avahi-daemon worked for me. [Bug 203973] Re: thinkfinger-tools doesn't provide the --add-user switch
The manpage for thinkfinger is misleading, but I'm afraid you're all simply wrong. ldd `which tf-tool` clearly shows that it's linked against pam. To enroll a new user, you simply need to run sudo tf-tool --acquire. That will be enough in hardy to enroll a user. You do not need to copy the file to /etc, you do not need to recompile with pam support. You will need to modify pam.conf to use thinkfinger however. [Bug 182038] Re: Black rectangle instead of image in FF3 [Hardy]
Miso, are you using the -intel driver? If so, greedy should be on by default now when EXA is used (which I believe should now be all the time, unless configured differently in xorg.conf). For users of -ati or -nv, I'd be interested in hearing if setting Option AccelMethod EXA makes the issue go away or not. For background, Xorg is trying to move away from XAA in favor of EXA, and in general is not investing time into XAA-specific bugs. Unfortunately, that does not mean EXA is problem-free... but at least they respond to bug reports about it. For -intel we've cleared enough of the EXA bugs that we can ship that on by default in Hardy. For -ati and -nv I'm less sure what the situation is, but here too the long term objective is to move to EXA as the solution for these problems. I don't know if Option MigrationHeuristic greedy is particular to the -intel driver, or is applicable to -ati and/or -nv, but if it is, it's something we could certainly consider forcing on, as we did for -intel. We found for Hardy that greedy solved a lot of different problems (particularly around performance), but I'm not sure if it's available for -ati and -nv. If it is, then it definitely would be something we could patch in, if people can validate it solves the problem. -- Black rectangle instead of image in FF3 [Hardy] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/182038 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, I just installed an HP DVD1070i SATA Lightscribe DVD combo drive. It is also fairly slow to read and will not play DVD's. I installed libdvdcss2 on this computer (desktop) and my laptop as well. Please find attached an updated version of the Catalan translation. This is the official version from the Ubuntu Catalan Translation Team, which has been reviewed by its members and from those of the Catalan LoCo. It fixes several spelling and format mistakes found in the initial file submitted on comment #2. @danimus: many thanks for your work and effort. We encourage you, though, to work within the community of Catalan translators and users, some of the benefits of which are suggestions, proofreading and correction. In this way, we can provide good quality translations which enhance our users' experience. ** Attachment added: Updated Catalan translation from the Ubuntu Catalan Translation Team http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12805608/kindex-ca.html -- [Hardy] Firefox Startpage Translations Needed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 86039] Re: knetworkmanager can't connect to dlink di-524 using wpa-psk
Hi Yuriy, Thanks for the response. Yes, indeed, I do still have this problem. I've never been able to connect to my wireless router(s) with my four year old Toshiba Satellite 5200 Notebook. The notebook uses an Atheros chipset based wireless card - I don't have access to my notebook at the moment and can give you further details no later then next week. I've tried two different routers, a US Robotics and a D-Link model - I'll let you know about the specific models. Curiously, my office notebook (a one year old Toshiba Satellite P100, which has a more modern Atheros chip than the Satellite P5200) can connect and maintain, although somewhat unrealiably, via WPA-PSK with my router(s). Both notebooks and routers are configured with up-to-date kubuntu OS/router firmware. The Satellite P100 fairly regularly looses but can successfully re-establish a wireless connection within a few seconds. Please let me know if you need any further details.
