[Bug 215686] [NEW] Installation hang on dl360G4p and borked text on other consoles

2008-04-11 Thread Falk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: base-installer

When I did an install on a HP dl360G4p it stopped two times on restarting now
(the last thing before restarting into ubuntu).
And when I tried to look on another console it showed only borked text. So I
could not see where it stopped.

But when I restarted the server with a cold reboot it worked like it
should. So grub was installed and every thing looks good.e

was it previously working out of the box?
megatec compliant units have a known problem for batt charge

Have a look at megatec_usb manpage for more info...

[Bug 214714] Same problem with updated-from-beta install

2008-04-11 Thread Richard Theil
I see the same message 'net usershare' returned error 255 on a from-
scratch beta-cd installation that has been updated to current as of this
writing (Sa 12. Apr 0:00 CEST). No special changes have been made to the
stock system in the context of file sharing, the only thing attempted
was to enable public sharing of a folder from Nautilus. Nautilus asked
to install the services, and did so. Then upon trying to activate the
share, the error showed.

I added the usershare owner only = False line and issued
/etc/init.d/samba restart. Within Nautilus (but without further
reboot) the problem persists. /var/log/samba/log.smbd only confirms the
restart done.

2008-04-11 Thread Caroline Ford
This is probably a duplicate of bug #105545.

It's hard to see what is going on with these, mine works okay in both
kernels. I have to wait a minute after plugging in - until this occurs
in syslog:

If I connect before that has happened I lose connection when it does.

I'm not sure about this one. You could try removing all the repositories

need guidance https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu.
Basically we need to break the problem down a bit so lets start with
that

[Bug 215513] [NEW] Ordering by update-grub2 wrong

2008-04-11 Thread Legolas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

The updater of the grub2 boot menu has some faults in ordering. As an
example it puts linux-image-2.6.24-8-generic above linux-
image-2.6.24-15-generic.

Also, when reading Debian's qa it says it does the same with rc kernels:

[Bug 193574] Re: Feisty to Gutsy some sort of network problem occured during the update

2008-04-11 Thread Caroline Ford
With the bzip errors, try running sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-
get upgrade. Hopefully it will go away.

If it doesn't once you get into gutsy and *still* have a bzip error with
gutsy security then you cna try commenting out the gutsy security entry
in /etc/apt/sources.list, running sudo apt-get update, and then
uncommenting it and running sudo apt-get update.

We can never promise clean installs when you have installed software
from 3rd party repositories, as you have from the error messages you've
posted.

[Bug 213775] Re: ghc 6.8.2 cabal won't run

2008-04-11 Thread Holden Karau
I removed the ghc6 package and then went through and deleted everything that
mentioned ghc and re-installed the ghc6 package and now:
if I run runghc --package Cabal Setup.lhs it says bash: /usr/local/bin/runghc:
No such file or directory but runghc6 Setup.lhs works just fine.
Looking at both of them:
ls -al /usr/bin/runghc
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2008-04-11 01:58 /usr/bin/runghc -
/etc/alternatives/runghc
ls -al /usr/bin/runghc6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2008-04-11 01:57 /usr/bin/runghc6 -
../lib/ghc-6.8.2/bin/runghc
Which suggest that all that is needed is updating the symbolic link of rungh to
../lib/ghc-6.8.2/bin/runghc

Looking at ghc6_6.8.2-2ubuntu1.diff I'd suggest changing
+--slave $execdir/runghc runghc $bindir/runghc \ to +
--slave $execdir/runghc runghc$execdir/runghc6 \

[Bug 215515] [NEW] adept_manager: impossible to change status from remove to purge

2008-04-11 Thread Christian A. Reiter
Public bug reported:

in adept_manager, try to remove something with purge, and some other
dependencies are removed too, but only with status remove, not purge.
If i want to purge them as well, i can't change their status from remove to
purge, I have to do it via cancel changes.
This is not correct, in Synaptic it does work, and working much faster that way.

BTW, why not purge dependencies of purged packets, like aptitude does
it, afaik?

Re: [Bug 195390] Re: gtk icons not showing right in taskbar/system tray

2008-04-11 Thread smyrman
Well, as for Firefox 3.0, I don't really know as Firefox 3.0 in ubuntu
seams to have stopped working. (More info on this later, and in
another bug report). For Firefox 2 it seams to no longer be an issue.
Possibly because it is no longer allowed to change the task-bar icon
by KDE(?).

How-ever, when it comes to the try-icons, there seams to still be an
issue. At least Pidgin still has the same problem (as in previous
screenshot) with the system-tray.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 105545 ***

I disagree. Bug #105545 seems to be a collection of bugs saying that
the modem doesn't work. The modem does actually work for me, and the
CD flash being not hidden is a new thing in hardy. The bug is on
nautilus, as I don't think it functions as flash memory (I think the
kernel is doing that bit right)

I'm obviously not going to install random patches from a bug to 'fix'
my working modem.

These errors come from the Spanish translation of xfce4-session, not

[Bug 206113] Re: Wubi install cannot create swap space (8.04 Beta) [Regression from alpha 6]

2008-04-11 Thread Agostino Russo
LaMont,

Tried your package and looks good here.

I booted into LiveCD session (VM), installed your package, and ran
ubiquity --automatic (using wubi preseed). The swap file was formatted
without any error and swapped on. Note that I cannot reproduce the error
above (which is possibly due to non-contiguous swap) all I can assess is
whether it works or not in my case. And it does work.

[Bug 215455] [NEW] Double-click on mount icon should open mounted directory under KDE

2008-04-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When a usb drive is connected, Kubuntu detects it and offers an option
of opening in a new Konqueror Window. This opens the location
media:/sdb1 or something of the sort, which is not in sync with the
tree on the left panel (i.e., the folder opened on the right is not
shown on the tree in the left panel).

If the default behaviour was to open /media/usbdrive or whatever is
the folder where the device was mounted, this folder would automatically
be revealed in the tree on the left panel, facilitating the navigation.

The same thing happens if I open the device by double-clicking its icon
on the Desktop.

It's not really a bug, it's a suggestion of improvement. I hope this is
the right place for this also. Thank you.

[Bug 197130] Re: [hardy] Black X screen and system halt after installing linux-rt

2008-04-11 Thread prismatic7
Well, I think I've fairly comprehensively proved that it's an actual
bug, given that the symptoms seem reproducible on several systems. It's
also been present (for me) in every revision of the -rt kernel from -12.
I have tried the EnvyNG installer (with the -12 and -14 revisions) which
also produced the same error, but EnvyNG is unsupported, as I understand
it... Is this the upstream installer you mean, Timo?

I'm not at my laptop right now, so I can't test your suggestion yet,
anyway. Will do as soon as I can though.

Given that the error is consistent across several kernels, but appears
only in the -rt flavour, it's pretty odd. Is the binary module itself
provided by linux-restricted-modules or by nvidia-glx-(whatever)?
