[Bug 201685] Re: [HARDY] update-manager spamming GLib-GObject-CRITICAL errors

2008-04-16 Thread dschof
I have almost identical message - only noticeable difference is line
12 for line 10). But, no longer have the E: Sub-process ...
section.

Sorry, I cannot be any more exact about how problem came about I have
part-broken re-fixed the system trying to get sound to work (removed
StudioUbuntu) and then dbus/hal problems. I also switch kernels as
synaptic appears to install 64 bit versions for my old Pentium 4 with
hyperthreading.

If you do want any terminal outputs I will try to oblige.

Regards, David

[Bug 218174] [NEW] display crashes on logout

2008-04-16 Thread anirbanjoy
Public bug reported:

When I am loggin off the display is stuck to the desktop photo (no icons
or mouse pointer only the photo) .. When I press the power button its
coming to the console mode (showing that failing to load an image) and
then properly shutting down.

This change happened after I made my latest ATI Raedon X1400 driver
installation(bin file from the ATI website) successfully (still logout
was working properly) and then after installing some games and changing
their video settings created this logout problem ..

System Description: Ubuntu 7.10

glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

[Bug 218178] [NEW] Click sound level not equal to gnome standard

2008-04-16 Thread Tim Besard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-main-menu

I recently installed gnome-main-menu via aptitude (which, as a matter of
fact, was quite strange too: after I dragged the gnome-main-menu applet
to the gnome-panel, my cpu went at 100% for five minutes, before gnome-
main-menu turned up), but when I click the buttons inside the gnome-
main-menu (programs, documents, places), the click sound I hear sounds
louder then the gnome standard (when clicking every other button in
every other application).

A small aesthetic difference, but worth mentioning imho.

[Bug 218180] [NEW] Uninstall bug with compiz packages for kubuntu/hardy

2008-04-16 Thread Sascha Peilicke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktop-effects-kde

The bug happens on Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy (development) with the package
desktop-effects-kde installed in version 0.3:

Problem:
KWin does not start after login with KDM because compiz is still set as default
displaymanager.
A quick workaround is entering kwin in a shell but the reason for it are
those files remaining after compiz package deinstallation:

~/.kde/share/config/compizasWM
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/25enable-compiz

I believe that this happened because I played a bit with the desktop-
effects-kde graphical tool (which was unable to set/unset compiz
desktop effects on my machine). I uninstalled compiz but the desktop-
effects-kde package still remained on my machine.

Solution:
This package should have compiz as dependency so that it will be removed with
it together. The files mentioned above are part of the package so that would
solve the problem.

** Affects: desktop-effects-kde (Ubuntu)

[Bug 218179] [NEW] rt2x_cfg80211 doesn't support European frequency ranges

2008-04-16 Thread Andreas Gnau
Public bug reported:

rt2x_cfg80211's ieee80211_regdom only supports two values: US and JP.
There is no setting for europe. In former mac80211-versions there was
ieee80211_regdom=64 in the mac80211-module, which now seems to be gone in
favour of cfg80211's ieee80211_regdom's setting.
It might be worth thinking about reimplementing the European freguency-range
again.

Later today we will switch back again and see how the state of the

Similar behavior here with current hardy. iwl3945 works with encrypted

Solution for several of our Laptops was the newest version of the

[Bug 215491] Re: Firefox requests which application to use when open the containing folder option is selected

2008-04-16 Thread altery
I've got the same behaviour:

After downloading a file in firefox 3 in Hardy right clicking in the FF3
download manager and selecting open containing folder, firefox
displays a window and ask for an application to open the file with. The
same happens after selecting open instead of open containg folder
even though the file type has an associated application (for example for
.zip oder .deb files).

I've got reports of other Hardy users that have this behaviour even
after a fresh installation (I did an upgrade from Gutsy).

[Bug 218183] [NEW] Gparted does not display an error dialog on overlapping partitions

2008-04-16 Thread Tim Besard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

Somehow, I managed to mess up my primary HD. It boots correctly, but I cannot
use gparted in combination with it.
The error I get on the console:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo gparted
[sudo] password for tim:
==
libparted : 1.7.1
==
Partities mogen elkaar niet overlappen.

Translated that would be Cannot have overlapping partitions, I guess.

The problem however, is that the gparted gui does not show any error at all!
Instead, the hard drive is listed completely empty, only containing Free
Space.
A new user, launching gparted from the gnome menu, could get seriously confused
by this, and wipe out an hard drive actually containing valuable data. There
should be at least a warning dialog when browsing the hard drive, if not a
fatal error preventing the user to undertake any actions on that specific drive.

Some details:
Running ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04, fully updated, kernel 2.6.24-16-generic, with
gparted v0.3.5 and libparted 1.7.1

[Bug 8980] Re: hostname -f does not return a proper FQDN

2008-04-16 Thread Fernando Ciciliati
JMX services are also affected by the incorrect response provided by 'hostname

This seems to be more a DHCP problem than anything else.
Once a valid DHCP lease is obtained, the /etc/hosts file should have a proper
configuration set.
This is the root of all evil :)

i will try an all plastic cable plug, i had one before but the metal one come

whats strange is that in windows vista (oem) it work without problem, and in

[Bug 218181] [NEW] dapper - hardy upgrade failure (messy desktop install)

2008-04-16 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I performed an upgrade test from dapper to hardy yesterday with a clean
(and updated) standard dapper desktop install. All went well.

I then went back to the dapper vbox image and added as much bloat and
cruft as I could inorder to provoke some breakage ... and it worked.

I installed all the available language packs, a good number of
applications from main (using Add/Remove) and to make it interesting I
ran EasyUbuntu to install some proprietary stuff.

I'll attach the update-manager log files.

[Bug 208524] Re: Gvfs ftp module doesn't display file whose name is longer than 42 characters

2008-04-16 Thread Saïvann Carignan
From bug #218010 :

Steps to reproduce:
1. Log into a FTP serveur with a FTP client like FileZilla
2. Create a file called test test test test test test test test.mp3
3. Open the FTP server in nautilus

Result : the file does not show in nautilus and trying to delete a
folder that contains such files fail.

This bug can be tested on this server :

ftp://leservicetechnique.com/
username : username
password : nothing

** Summary changed:

- Gvfs ftp module doesn't display file whose name is longer than 42 characters
+ Files on FTP with 6 spaces in filename don't list in Nautilus

** Description changed:

I uploaded file to my freebox hard drive (it is a french set top box)
But the file didn't display in nautilus while it does well in gftp or
anyother ftp client.

With some tests i discovered that the file is not displayed if its name
  is longer than 42 characters.

It is really easy to reproduce ... just open an ftp and rename a file in
it to increase its length and the file will disappear from nautilus.
+
+ Update : See comment #7 for steps to reproduce.

[Bug 218190] [NEW] upgrading breaks networking, due to Broadcom firmware

2008-04-16 Thread Jay
Public bug reported:

upgrading breaks networking, due to Broadcom firmware

Specifically:
install 8.4 Hardy Heron AMD64 beta KDE4 on Compaq R4000 laptop
go to all the trouble of getting wireless Broadcom networking working
  apt-get upgrade
  reboot as prompted
perhaps because I installed some extra packages, like linux-xen
  networking stops working

This is because there's a new kernel and the modules don't get
copied/linked over.

Ok, that wasn't too hard to fix.

[Bug 218188] [NEW] acpi exception: AE_not_Found (processor_core-0816)

2008-04-16 Thread dino99

i've very long time booting with Hardy 2.6.24-16
My config is: mobo Asus p5wdh video Asus en8500gt c2d 4500 2go ddr2 800

Kernel log report this line twice: Acpi exception (processor_core-0816):
ae_not_found processor device is not present [20070126]
I perform some search and have found discussions about this message: it seems
that appear when bios mobo have multi core capability and cpu used has only 1
or 2 cores.
example: my bios mobo is able to accept cpu with up to 4 cores, but i use a
core2duo on it. So the boot process try to find tthe 2 others missing core.
The result is a long time searching for that and report the acpi exception.
For better time booting, boot process might control the number of core

AFTER SUGGESTION WHICH DOES COMPLETE THE CACHE ALOTMENT

thanks for the almost fix im not sure i want to go this route so i may
try to copy the package list into the

terminal manual doing several apts at a time something similiar to the
size suggestion limits in the other

report, but instead of increasing the cache limit the update or upgrade
command in this instance

could moniter the channel ie five or ten packages to upgrade and then
a message how much space is used

and continue update upgrade
