[Bug 238111] [NEW] after install, can't make it work

2008-06-07 Thread FrancoisSchoubben
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ocsinventory-server

I'm trying to install OCSInventory-server 1.01-3 (and report) by packages in
multiverse. I can't find how to make it works (or if it works, how to use it).

My version is 8.04, upgraded since 7.04 (and 7.10).

Package is installed, but logs are empty. Is there a process we must
launch ? Is it an apache site to intall ?

If yes, where can we find doc to intall it ? README (as README.Debian and
TODO.Debian) didn't show the way. They say to launch a non-existing file (sh
setup.sh).
The other file in doc, /etc/ocsinventory/dbconfig.inc.php is a link toward a
non existing file in /var/lib/ocsinventory-server/config/.

[Bug 74394] Re: power.sh should allow laptop_mode to do it's thing

2008-06-07 Thread chourave
ok Tormod, thank you for patching my linux knowledge !!

Your solution is simpler than mine : I have an additionnal logical
condition evaluation to distinguish between the laptop-mode script and
the laptop_mode_enable function

if [ x$ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE = xtrue ]; then
(sleep 5 /usr/sbin/laptop_mode auto)
else
(sleep 5 laptop_mode_enable)
fi

But , with your patch, the hdparm settings are applied two times :
- first, the default setting :
$HDPARM -S $SPINDOWN_TIME /dev/$drive 2/dev/null
$HDPARM -B 1 /dev/$drive 2/dev/null
- and then, with the the call to $LAPTOP_MODE start, which use the
laptop-mode.conf parameters

Hello,

sometimes when I boot my machine (dell inspiron 530), ubuntu seems to
get stuck on waiting for root filesystem phase.

I do a ctrl+alt+delete turn off the computer and turn it back on and it
then works fine.

[Bug 238110] [NEW] USB mouse freezes and becomes 'jittery'

2008-06-07 Thread loveunit
Public bug reported:

I am pretty much a linux newbee.. firstly thanks to anyone who reads and
offers help for me to find a fix, but please also try to fully explain
what you need me to post and how, as many of the reports I've read in an
effort to find a fix myself, have simply been 'too technical' and I've
found it hard to take some practical advice from them that I feel safe
to apply to my own PC.. but thanks mainly!

This is my first even linux install, and I have made many small
alterations to get it working in a way that I was enjoying, however over
the last few days the mouse has started to fail - to the point that it
now occasionally shuffles around when I push it.. but it is just an
annoyance, luckily I have the touchpad, which works fine at all times.

I thought this might be a problem after suspending the computer, and
often a reboot helped, but now after a fresh boot the Mouse freezes,
might come back for a few minutes and then just does nothing - but
remains lit, so has power.

I have made some changes to my USB settings to make my huawei E200 work
to provide internet without needing to connect each time - I also played
around with other things, too many to list or remember, and many via the
terminal, where I am not at all proficient - I really hope someone can
point me to where to start fixing things..

the mouse is branded Manhattan 173773 - it's a generic mouse with a
scroll, which I bought in Spain connected via USB with a cable.

anyhow.. to the bug.. I've read endless reports and forums, and tried a
few of the suggestions, none have done it yet.. I've also monitored the
output of the following:

Forum/a:

Worked in Ubuntu 7.10 - Not in 8.04 2008/04/30 03:26

I'm experiencing an issue of being unable to associate with a WPA-PSK AP
after updating from Ubuntu Gutsy to Hardy. Wireless setup with WG511v1
and ndiswrapper (tried both versions 1.50 1.52). Also tried with
Network Manager and Wicd but same symptoms and problem. Seems as though
ndiswrapper is unable to obtain the correct key to connect with the AP.
Wireless setup and configuration worked under Gutsy but unable to get it
to work under Hardy. The native prism54 drivers for the Netgear WG511v1
have been blacklisted, and here's the pertinent info:

ndiswrapper version 1.50-1ubuntu1 (hardy)

wpasupplicant version 0.6.0+0.5.8-0ubuntu2 (hardy)

gnome-keyring version 2.22.1-1 (hardy)

libpam-gnome-keyring version 2.22.1-1 (hardy)

network-manager version 0.6.6-0ubuntu5 (hardy)

wicd version 1.4.2-1 (apt.wicd.net)

:~$ ndiswrapper -v
utils version: '1.9', utils version needed by module: '1.9'
module details:
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/ubuntu/misc/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko

:~$ ndiswrapper -l
netwg511 : driver installed
device (1260:3890) present (alternate driver: prism54)

[Edit#1] Noticed that the keyring management has changed quite a bit in Hardy.
Don't know if this change has any effect on ndiswrapper's operation and/or
interface with the revised keyring functions.

[Edit#2] Verified that ndiswrapper netwg511 driver works for open APs.

[Bug 205669] Re: [needs-packaging] flabber

2008-06-07 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Python, and feel free to ask any
questions either here, or preferably in #ubuntu-motu or in the motu-
mentors mailing list.

Regarding the package split, special packages for the translations sound
overkilling. As it seems you are using gettext, we could ship the .mo
files with the flabber/glabber packages, so two packages would be
enough. What do you think?

[Bug 238119] [NEW] space and tab uncorrectly handled when unfolding

2008-06-07 Thread dforsi
Public bug reported:

A leading SPACE of a folded line is incorrectly added to the current
string and a TAB makes the string end prematurely.

The attached test case prints
1234567890 abcdefghij
while the expected behaviour is
1234567890abcdefghij1234567890

According to paragraph 5.8.1. of RFC 2425 both SPACE and TAB should be ignored:
A logical line MAY be continued on the next physical line anywhere
between two characters by inserting a CRLF immediately followed by a
single white space character (space, ASCII decimal 32, or horizontal
tab, ASCII decimal 9). At least one character must be present on the
folded line. Any sequence of CRLF followed immediately by a single
white space character is ignored (removed) when processing the
   content type.

Same problem for me. I have DSL connection so I'm using pppoe. This way
there are two devices (ppp0 and eth0) which have same bandwitch, and
amount of data sent/received. In my opinion gnome-system-monitor shows
sum of both ( doubles the figures). There should be some option to
choose witch device to monitor.

It is nice to have actual figures in system monitor.

[Bug 218817] Re: Toshiba p100 Conexant CX20549 (Venice) Headphone jack not working

Elisée you should try to fix your DSDT. Which bios version are you
running? My fan is running perfectly on a Geforce go 7900 after changing
the dsdt to a custom one.

I'm running bios 4.2 on a Toshiba P100-126 PSPAGE

See here:

http://ph.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?p=4849584

the steps are, using the dsl file attached,

iasl -tc dsdt.dsl
sudo cp dsdt.aml /etc/initramfs-tools/DSDT.aml
sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-$(uname -r)

First make sure your bios version is the same and your laptop comes with
the same bios as mine, otherwise your system may not boot.

[Bug 107208] Re: Two USB serial adapters get different /dev/ttyUSBn names after reboot

2008-06-07 Thread jpka
Thanks to all people who write and debug Ubuntu!

I have same problem: ttyUSB* names assigns randomly when I replug devices.
All devices guaranteed to have S/N (it may be seen in Windows).
Ubuntu command-line tools not discover this.
I use last Ubuntu with all updates. I use 'apt-get remove brltty' to properly
function of FTDI USB chips.
If only one device attached, it work fine via ttyUSB0.

The
'...a GUI of some sort that displays a list of all 'connectable' ports (serial
ports, USB serial ports, parallel ports, etc) along with sufficient data to
identify them uniquely (including serial number), and allow the user to specify
an application-level device such as /dev/modem, and create the appropriate udev
rule. ...'
 is a great idea!

Do Ubuntu authors plan to do this?

[Bug 238123] [NEW] require ALSA update, when can I expect it?

2008-06-07 Thread marigold7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

attached is one letter probably giving the solution of my problem, but I
feel unable to perform the suggested set up. I am new with Linux/Ubuntu
and I would prefer using the updates by synaptic.

It was told me that my ALSA drivers were not mature for my sound card
and that I should go to the ALSA homepage and download the current
driver and lib packages. Going to the suggested web page http://www
.alsa-project.org/ I have found:

Driver (alsa-driver) 1.0.16 Kernel drivers
Firmware (alsa-firmware)1.0.16 Firmware for cards that require it
Library (alsa-lib)1.0.16Userspace library
Plugins (alsa-plugins)1.0.16Additional library plugins
Eg.jack, pulse, maemo ...
Utilities (alsa-utils)1.0.16Utilities aplay,arecord,amixer
etc
Tools (alsa-tools)1.0.16Tools
PyALSA (pyalsa) 1.0.16Python bindings for
ALSA lib
OSS compat lib(alsa-oss)1.0.15 OSS compatibility library

Looking into synaptic with the key word alsa there were packages like:
(alsa-firmware)1.0.15-2ubuntu4
(alsa-utils)1.0.15-3ubuntu2
(alsa-tools) 1.0.15-2ubuntu4
(alsa-oss)1.0.15-1

As you see the version for ALSA is 1.0.16 but using synaptic only
1.0.15.

I would feel very uncomfortable to do the manipulation (compilations) on
a running system. All trials I have done so far ended in error messages.
I have a big lack in knowledge (e. g. I do not know basics like were to
put the decompressed files - to the desktop, my home or root directory).

Therefore I feel better to wait until the updates were available by
synaptic.

Please tell me, who is responsible for maintaining the updates or
forward my report to this person. Here, I describe not a real bug but my
notebook gives no sound / failure to use slmodemd. How long it will
probably take to get the required ALSA update by synaptic?

With best wishes,

Robert Fischer

[Bug 238125] [NEW] Ubuntu/HardyHeron/8.04 - partitioning message on not enough diskspace is confusing

2008-06-07 Thread dirkx
Public bug reported:

Install of ubuntu-8.04-desktop-amd64

When installing Ubuntu on a disk which is too small (e.g. 2.1Gbyte) --
all goes fine throughout the guided install up until you hit the point
where the partition is made. Then the message:

Some of the Partitions you created are too small if you do not
go back to... installation may fail.

This is not quite as helpful as it could be - i.e. one could detect a
disk which is too small earlier; or use a different message as in effect
you are in guided partitioning - so none of those suggestions make
sense.

I have short lockups of the screen (x-server). I can move the mouse but
no reaction on mouseclicks. No response from hitting keyboard (e.g. caps

most in Firefox where I do a lot of mousescrolling (USB mouse).

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image as background-repeat

2008-06-07 Thread joelpt
I am actually seeing the same behavior on Windows XP, Firefox 3.0 RC2.
So this is not a problem isolated to Linux.

The best example I have seen of the problem is on this site:
http://www.timothysykes.com/

It's slower than normal on most of the page, but if you scroll all the
way down to the bottom of the page, when the page footer starts becoming
visible the framerates drop drastically. Try it.

For what it's worth, the same site in IE7 exhibits no noticeable
slowdown.

[Bug 236882] Re: Optiarc IDE DVD RW AD 7173A / nvidia chipset DVD-Read errors

2008-06-07 Thread Felix Krull
Hi Thomas,

after reading your last comment I tried the workaround (amd74xx and
via82cxxx modules) a second time. That works now. At my first try it
didn't, probably because I used the wrong module-version - sorry for
that.

I can also confirm that the 40-wire-cable is the reason in my case.
After changing to a 80-wire-cable everything is working fine with the
pata_amd-module, too. Connecting the 40-wire-cable I need the amd74xx
module.

With the correct cable the installation of hardy is also working fine.

So I agree with you, the bugs are identical.

Thanks a lot for your help!

[Bug 238130] [NEW] CD/DVD Creator fails torecognise blank DVD (8.04)

2008-06-07 Thread Steve Thomas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

I was able to burn to DVD last week, but not today. Running 8.04 on a
Dell M1330.

There was a kernel update this week, and various gnome updates, which
may be significant.

Symptom is: I open CD/DVD Creator from Places menu; add the folders I
want to copy. Click on Write DVD. The program then asks repeatedly for a
blank DVD+R disk, even though one is already in the drive. If I start by
inserting a blank DVD, same thing. It doesn't seem to recognise the
blank as a blank. (Also fails on DVD-R disk.)

I tried using Brasero instead, and that worked fine, so I think this
must be a nautilus error.

[Bug 238129] [NEW] Brother HL-1240 Margin Problem When Printing Test Page

2008-06-07 Thread David Schaller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brother-lpr-drivers-laser1

I recently installed the brother-lpr-drivers-laser1 and wrapper packages
in Hardy for my HL-1240. Everything went smoothly until I tried to
print. The margins on the test page are all completely wrong, cutting
off much of the page. Printing from other applications seems to give the
same same results. I think I've made sure that letter sized paper is
specified everywhere. I've gone into localhost:631 directly and checked
all settings.

[Bug 134238] Re: Please re-enable build of s2ram binary

2008-06-07 Thread Alan Jenkins
Yay, I'm glad to see this confirmed nominated, if not yet implemented.

I'd just like to add: when s2ram was removed, it was left in the
command-not-found data. That means if uswsusp is not installed and
you try to run s2ram, it lies to you - telling you that s2ram can be
found in the uswsusp package.

[Bug 92944] Re: [can-not-install] file overwrite error

2008-06-07 Thread StefanPotyra
Hi,

is this still a problem for intrepid? If so, can you provide a debdiff instead
of a simple patch?
To fix hardy, you might want to take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.

unsubscribing ubuntu-universe-sponsors, as we can only sponsor debdiffs
(patches should be handled by normal bug contacts).
If you have a debdiff, please resubsribe ubuntu-universe-sponsors (of course
Kees could also take a look and upload it ;)).

Cheers,
   Stefan.

[Bug 238131] [NEW] whiteout on console makes console unusable after resume from hibernation

2008-06-07 Thread SkullBurner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After resume from Hibernation I see for some 10 seconds white screen
after resume is completed I can normally work in X11 but if I switch to
the console with the ctrl + alt + F1 etc. I only see white screen and
can't use the console, I can switch back to X11 with ctrl + alt + F7 and
work further without problem. Sometimes the screen after resume from
Hibernation is blue in this case I can switch to console but the
background of the console window is blue and characters are yellow. This
problem doesn't happen after resume from suspend to ram.

As a attachment I supply the Xorg.0.log after I resumed from Hibernation
with the result in blue console window.

[Bug 238133] [NEW] Answers-link in all apps doesn't open a new Firefox-tab

I have my Firefox configured to open new windows in new tabs. If I click
on a link in another application (ex: feedreader) and Firefox is already
opened, the window pops up in a new tab, not a new window. That works
with the Report a bug-link in all applications , but not with the
Answers-link. It still opens in a new windows, even if Firefox is
