[Bug 297019] Re: mythexport relies on ffmpeg from medibuntu

2009-01-03 Thread John Baab
There should be no regression potential with this. The current version
in Intrepid tells the user to install ffmpeg from Medibuntu, which does
not have a ffmpeg for this release. So the current version in intrepid
is essentially useless until this gets SRUd.

[Bug 297789] Re: Seamonkey should be updated to 1.1.13

2009-01-03 Thread markor
We post bugs because we Love to see things fixed to the benefit to us and the
other users.
That is all about development process. We contribute, it comes back to all.

Seamonkey itself is in Universe repository and that means that it is not core
of Ubuntu but included
to user`s request. So Core staff does not seems to provide support nor the same
care as to the supported products. Therefore, it is not productive to call
people so-called.
let`s do all we can to make Seamonkey stay and be updated in *Ubuntu.

2009-01-03 Thread beakie
#1 who knows, I can't do anything other than whatever is in front of me.
can't go back a page, trying to 'manage add-ons' results in shut down of
firefox, and since I have to try and remember every site I have posted
this problem on, than re enter my log-in info and password each time,
than search for my problem... blah blah blah, this sucks.

#2 I have everything set to remember all my info, it does not clear
info, no sites in exceptions list.

#3 this is not the only ubuntu problem I am having. so my thinking is
this is a comeplete screw up install and I since it messed up my XP
(deleted .sys files for some reason) I am just bugared royally.

[Bug 288184] Re: Mythexport fails when spaces are in file name

spaces.

adds quotes around file names in the ffmpeg commands.

Thanks for the tip that the problem is with the writing of the ID3v2

I can add the tag information to the command line.

I sure wish there was work happening to fix GRiP. Its the best Ripper

complicated, or didn't get the features that I was trying to find.

[Bug 311954] Re: suspend/hibernate stopped working after abrupt shutdown

2009-01-03 Thread vish
i'm using the older kernel, had some problems with 27-9

so i did twice
sudo update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.27-7-generic
sudo update-initramfs -u

but still have the same problem...

But is . precent in the environmental variable PATH?
Try:
echo $PATH
If it's not there, you can add it as folllows: PATH=$PATH:.
Then try again

i'm just a noob but some one in the #ubuntu told me when i did the
cd /usr/lib/hal/scripts
sudo ./hal-system-power-hibernate
sudo ./hal-system-power-suspend

and got .: 3: hal-functions: not found error
that there was a bug with hal,

but i have this file /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend
and
~$ echo /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend
/usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend
~$ echo /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-functions
/usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-functions

so i guess the file is being found, but when i run it i says
~$ sudo /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend
.: 3: hal-functions: not found

i tried renaming hal-functions file to '.hal-functions' '. hal-
functions' but i got the same error only!

i didnt understand what u said about the PATH... but if u could give me
a command i could try it...

[Bug 295836] Re: metadata operations hang after node outage

2009-01-03 Thread Evan Broder
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: clvm

When I shut down a node, and then boot it back up, LVM metadata
operations hang after it has rejoined the cluster, unless I restart
clvmd (by sending it a SIGKILL first).

Currently, when I'm booting up all 3 nodes in my cluster fresh, LVM
  works fine.

When I shut down one of the nodes cleanly (so that the cluster remains
quorate), LVM continues to work fine until the downed node is brought
  back up.

The LVM operations appear to be hanging on a connect() call - I've
attached an strace. There's nothing interesting in dmesg or the syslog.

cman_tool services reports that all 3 nodes are running a clvmd (and ps
  on each node confirms)

I can restore functionality by doing `pkill -9 clvmd` and then running
- clvmd by hand on all 3 nodes.
+ clvmd by hand on the node that was just restarted.

[Bug 288186] Re: RSS feed does not work behind reverse proxy

2009-01-03 Thread John Baab
Test Case: My MythTV box is behind a few firewalls so the 1.0.2 version
of mythexportRSS.cgi didn't have the correct value in HTTP_HOST when
my front-end reverse proxy (Apache) web server returns the output of the
script from the MythTV web server

Debdiff for the SRU is attached to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythexport/+bug/302104

There should little regression potential with this bug. Many users are
already using this code from the Mythbuntu Testing PPA. I have
personally verified that changing this code to accommodate reverse
proxies does not break the RSS feed for users that do not use reverse
proxies.

[Bug 178906] Re: php5-sqlite3 does not add PDO driver

2009-01-03 Thread Valeri Velkov
There is no bug, because there is no such thing as PDO::SQlite3
You can use the string sqlite as a DSN for the PDO driver, as in
$dbHandle = new PDO('sqlite:test-sqlite3.db');

which opens a connection to a sqlite3 database.
The PDO sqlite dirver supports both sqlite2 and sqlite3 and is installed by the
package php-sqlite.
To connect to a sqlite2 database, you would use
$dbHandle = new PDO('sqlite2:test-sqlite2.db');

The package php-sqlite3 installs the PECL SQLite3 extension, which is a
completely different animal.
It is used as follows:
$dbHandle = new SQLite3('test.db');

[Bug 289898] Re: [bcm...] Network-manager causes system lockup when connecting to specific encrypted network

2009-01-03 Thread Michael Jones
Alright, So its now been about 4 months since I started to experience
this problem... and I'm feeling a little abandoned.

I know that open source has no real guarantee of support... but you
have to admit that it would be nice to have maybe one reply or so. Yea,
I know that I'm just one guy with a couple of potentially imaginary
friends... But I've gone through several re-installs, and lots and lots
of trouble shooting to see if maybe the problem is the fault of some
configuration option I chose. But honestly... If you could just point me
in the right direction that would be awesome. But ignoring me just looks
really bad on the community as a whole.

[Bug 313630] [NEW] FF3.0.5 overwrites Ubuntu menubar

2009-01-03 Thread MMD
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

On open in Intrepid, FF fills entire screen, blocking out Ubuntu menu bar (top)
and the status bar (bottom), but still showing it's own menu and the bookmarks
toolbar. An F11 switches it to true fullscreen, then a second F11 displays FF
as it should, with Intrepid menu bar redisplayed, Firefox w/menu and toolsbar,
and status bar below.

Also, Help/About achieves similar behavior, but w/o the FF menu bar
showing, and the Intrepid menu/status bar restored. When you click on
the placeholder in the status bar, you have options to minimize or
unmaximize. When you minimize and maximize again, you're back where you
started, with the Intrepid menu gone and the status bar gone.
Unmaximize has no effect.

System is AMD Athlon with onboard video. Monitor is 17, 1024
resolution. Intrepid is up to date on patches.

[Bug 227062] Re: [regression][solved] Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory

2009-01-03 Thread ramuk
Explanation to the above problem found on debian

Problem is not with Grub, it is with Memtest86 Read below. May be
someone make a Patch available ASAP. because am not a Programmer

===
===

(Bug reported copied from http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=21;bug=319837)

Message #21 received at 319...@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox):

From: Paolo Ornati orn...@fastwebnet.it
To: 319...@bugs.debian.org
Subject: Not really a BUG...
Date: Mon, 1 Jan 2007 13:55:05 +0100

This is not really a BUG of GRUB... it's just that BIOS tables are
getting bigger!

Memtest86(+) uses the standard linux kernel image format, so it it can
be loaded easily by boot loaders such as Lilo and Grub...

The format is:
512 byte of boot sector
512 * X bytes of setup (where X is usually 4)
Y bytes of kernel image

A zImage kernel will be loaded at address 0x1 (64k) while a bzImage
will be loaded at 0x1 (1MB).

Memtest uses the old format.

The boot loader also loads a copy of boot sector and setup sectors at
0x9 (and then execute the setup code):

||
0A  ++
| Reserved for BIOS | Do not use. Reserved for BIOS EBDA.
09A000  ++
| Stack/heap/cmdline| For use by the kernel real-mode code.
098000  ++
| Kernel setup | The kernel real-mode code.
090200  ++
| Kernel boot sector| The kernel legacy boot sector.
09  ++
| Protected-mode kernel | The bulk of the kernel image.
01  ++
| Boot loader | - Boot sector entry point :7C00
001000  ++
| Reserved for MBR/BIOS |
000800  ++
| Typically used by MBR |
000600  ++
| BIOS use only |
00  ++

For the details read this:
http://lxr.linux.no/source/Documentation/i386/boot.txt

So, basically, this layout assumes that memory up to address 0x9A000 can
be used.

The problem is that the newer BIOSes are reserving more and more space
in the top addresses below 640k (low memory), so this layout got
broken... and GRUB cannot do anything about it.

I hit this problem a few days ago switching from an old Athlon64
based system to a Core2Duo base one.

If you have an x86_64 system you shold have something like this in the
dmesg (it's not printed on x86 if I rember correctly, you can look at
/proc/iomem anyway):

[0.00] BIOS-provided physical RAM map:
[0.00] BIOS-e820: - 0008f000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 0008f000 - 000a (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 000e - 0010 (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 0010 - 3e599000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e599000 - 3e5a6000 (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e5a6000 - 3e655000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e655000 - 3e6a6000 (ACPI NVS)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6a6000 - 3e6ab000 (ACPI data)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6ab000 - 3e6ac000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6ac000 - 3e6f2000 (ACPI NVS)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6f2000 - 3e6ff000 (ACPI data)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6ff000 - 3e70 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e70 - 3f00 (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: fff0 - 0001 (reserved)

This table is provided by the BIOS and basically tells what memory
regions can or can't be used by the system (because reserved by BIOS,
for example).

The first line tells that, on my system, the limit of usable low memory
is 8f000, which breaks the above layout assumption...

On my Athlon64 based machine (ASUS K8VSE Deluxe) it was 9FC00, and in
fact it worked.

Conclusion: memtest86 should use some other method of loading...

PS: it's a bit odd to have 1GB of memory and read that a 100k thing
cannot fit into memory ;)

For the details read this:
http://lxr.linux.no/source/Documentation/i386/boot.txt

So, basically, this layout assumes that memory up to address 0x9A000 can
be used.

The problem is that the newer BIOSes are reserving more and more space
in the top addresses below 640k (low memory), so this layout got
broken... and GRUB cannot do anything about it.

I hit this problem a few days ago switching from an old Athlon64
based system to a Core2Duo base one.

If you have an x86_64 system you shold have something like this in the
dmesg (it's not printed on x86 if I rember correctly, you can look at
/proc/iomem anyway):

[0.00] BIOS-provided physical RAM map:
[0.00] BIOS-e820: - 0008f000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 0008f000 - 000a (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 000e - 0010 (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 0010 - 3e599000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e599000 - 3e5a6000 (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e5a6000 - 3e655000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e655000 - 3e6a6000 (ACPI NVS)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6a6000 - 3e6ab000 (ACPI data)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6ab000 - 3e6ac000 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6ac000 - 3e6f2000 (ACPI NVS)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6f2000 - 3e6ff000 (ACPI data)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e6ff000 - 3e70 (usable)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: 3e70 - 3f00 (reserved)
[0.00] BIOS-e820: fff0 - 0001 (reserved)

This table is provided by the BIOS and basically tells what memory
regions can or can't be used by the system (because reserved by BIOS,
for example).

The first line tells that, on my system, the limit of usable low memory
is 8f000, which breaks the above layout assumption...

On my Athlon64 based machine (ASUS K8VSE Deluxe) it was 9FC00, and in
fact it worked.

Conclusion: memtest86 should use some other method of loading...

PS: it's a bit odd to have 1GB of memory and read that a 100k thing
cannot fit into memory ;)

[Bug 313632] [NEW] Evolution hides Inbox messages for no reason

2009-01-03 Thread Matt Warnock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I recently reinstalled ubuntu 8.10 on my laptop. On December 23, I was
consolidating files on my system, using cp -auv from prior backups to
get my most recent settings etc. into my home directory from several
different backups. I may have overwritten something, although the more
recent settings should have been preserved. From that time on, almost
all messages downloaded from the pop3 server are not hidden, but are
not shown, either.

I have 1700+ messages in my Inbox, all correctly downloaded from my pop3
server, and properties on the Inbox tab gives the right number, but
evolution only sees 2, and they seem to be random (same sender, no diff
from others I can see). There are no filters on the box.
Hiding/showing deleted, hidden or read messages makes no difference.
Removing bogofilter made no difference, same with adding spamassassin.
Expunging makes no difference. I can send a new message to myself, and
upon receipt back from the server, it will immediately join the other
invisible messages--it is there, but evolution never displays it.

Blowing away .gonf/apps/evolution and .evolution will cause the all
messages to be re-downloaded, but strangely, it doesn't ask for my new
password/account info. Likewise if I delete the account in evolution
and recreate it, it doesn't re-prompt for passwords. None of these
actions solve the issue. Any idea what is going on?

Oh, THOSE patches :) I had forgotten where this bug has been.

Anyway, Inox, it sounds like the patch did its job and fixed this bug
for you. Try gstreamer-properties to make sure you're going through v4l2

i had the same problem with consolekit. after a few days consolekit-

then i realized that in my auth.log that every 5 seconds i get this
entries:

Jan  4 06:24:36 usc-desktop sudo: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/ ; USER=root ;
COMMAND=/usr/bin/x2gopgwrapper listsessionsroot usc-desktop

user postgres by (uid=0)
Jan 4 06:24:36 usc-desktop su[22542]: pam_unix(su:session): session closed for

so i disabled the x2goserver and voila ... consolekit-daemon is really
handy now :-)

i don't know where the problem exactly is; i only realized that
x2goserver drives consolekit-daemon crazy. is it a bug or
misconfiguration in x2go or in consolekit? i really don't know ...

[Bug 313633] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Alice (programming education software)

2009-01-03 Thread feba
Public bug reported:

Alice is software designed to teach programming easily, and with
graphical, 3D output. It focuses on storytelling, not computation, as a
way to get students interested. It has been shown to significantly
increase the likelihood of new programming students to stick with it,
and do better. It uses a simple drag and drop structure to teach
students how programs are formed.

It is primarily made by Carnegie Mellon, and has had contribution and
support (of code or capital) from Google, the NSF, Microsoft, Disney,
DARPA, Pixar, Intel, Chevron, NASA, and others. Electronic Arts has been
a major contributor, and Alice 3.0 (released in a few months) will use
models donated from The Sims 2. It is used by %10 of colleges in the
United States,

[Bug 313643] [NEW] dd produced wrong output

2009-01-03 Thread meierfra
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: coreutils

I used dd ( coreutils 6.10.6ubuntu1, Ubuntu 8.10, Release 8.10) to
look at the last sector of the ntfs partition on my external hard
drive:

sudo dd if=/dev/sdb1 skip=142464419 of=last_sector count=1

This last sector is supposed to be the backup boot sector, but the
binary file last_sector only contained zeros.

I booted from a Knoppix CD (coreutils 5.97) and the same command
produced a file which did indeed contained the boot sector of the ntfs
partition.

I then looked at the same sector from Ubuntu 8.10 via

sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=last_sector skip=167043869 count=1

and last_sector contained the boot_sector

I repeated the first command from a second Ubuntu 8.10 on my external hard
drive, and again got nothing but zeros.

I also did

sudo dd if=/dev/sdb1 skip=142464415 of=last_sector1 count=5

and

sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=last_sector2 skip=167043865 count=5

from Ubuntu 8.10 and the first sector in the two files were identical,
but the last four sectors in the first file had nothing but zeroes,
while the second file ended correctly in the boot sector.

So this seems to be a bug in the coreutils 6.10.6ubuntu1 package.

[Bug 262817] Re: [NM 0.7 - intrepid] DHCP org.freedesktop.Dbus.Error.AccessDenied

2009-01-03 Thread Aaron Roydhouse
I can confirm the same problem just upgraded a stock 8.04 Hardy with
Network Manager 0.7 to 8.10 Intrepid. My wired and wireless networking
stopped working. DHCP wasn't working for any interface. DHCP worked fine
before the upgrade.

I was able to manually configure a network interface, but was then
blocked from reinstalling 'network manager' by 'network manager' itself
claiming I was still 'offline' (the same thing that network manager uses
to screw up bluetooth networking and firefox/thunderbird).

After reading this bug: By changing the user from 'dhcp' to 'root' in
the '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-dhcp-client.conf' I was able to get DHCP
going again.

Like the rest of us with this problem I have certainly never edited or
even heard of the '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-dhcp-client.conf' file.

Upgrading to 8.10 has been a huge disaster/regression for networking
particularly for netbook users (most problems have been related to
drivers used in the market leading netbooks like ASUS and Acer). I've
just spent hours reading many many web pages and forum posts from the
many suffering Ubuntu users who upgraded and found their networking
stopped working, PPTP stopped working, DHCP stopping working, and a few
other problems. Then, with no working network, they have extra problems
trying to restore their systems. I read several angry venting people say
they are giving up on Ubuntu completely and going back to XP. That's sad
for all the hard work the Ubuntu team and community put in. 8.10 may
have many improvements but I think it has been a net set-back for the
Ubuntu/Linux community.

Some sort of bold warning about the networking regressions should be
added to the upgrade process or a fix applied to 8.10 otherwise more
Ubuntu users will suffer if they upgrade their Hardy installations. Even
if just a warning to wait for Jaunty or something.

Aaron.

Wow, that was lightning fast, thank you for the fix!

The workaround looked promising but bindv6only=0 is the default here too.

I recall seeing this sort of garbage in early versions of compiz; but it
seems to have been worked around, since it's quite clearly not there
any more. How does compiz get around the lack of backfilling, and is it
something that could also be done by KDE's compositing manager?

[Bug 273558] Re: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid

2009-01-03 Thread Draeath
/usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 coexists perfectly well with
/usr/lib/libopenal.so.1

There is no reason to remove this package completely. Simply putting the
files there from an earlier Ubuntu version makes applications (that may
be impossible to fix, as you well know) happy.

While we are at it, lets remove awesfx like Fedora did. That's obsolete
as well... nevermind that it's still needed, as libopenal.so.0 still is.

2009-01-03 Thread duanedesign
** Description changed:

+ [needs-packaging] Alice
+

[Bug 122993] Re: ondemand governor does not use maximum frequency under load

2009-01-03 Thread nicke
I did have the same problem as unggnu. For example just using firefox
would never change the cpu frequency from the lowest 1GHz (on a AMD
6000+ with a maximum frequency of 3GHz ). I was playing around with the
settings and my on_demand scaling seams to be working as it should after
I did the following:

sudo modprobe cpufreq_ondemand

Now it scales up to 3GHz briefly when loading youtube in firefox for
example. It is worth a try if you have the same issue, imho.

[Bug 313341] Re: preferred terminal forgets gnome-terminal setting

2009-01-03 Thread Andrew Kay
** Description changed:

  In Ubuntu intrepid:

- seems if I change the default terminal and its execute flag, then when I
- go back to gnome-terminal it forgets it should use -x. If I type a
- custom command gnome-terminal it selects the built-in option without
+ seems if I change the default terminal (I mean, under
+ system-preferences-preferred-applications) and its execute flag, then
+ when I go back to gnome-terminal it forgets it should use -x. If I type
+ a custom command gnome-terminal it selects the built-in option without
giving me a chance to change the execute flag back (so the work-around
is to set the execute flag first)

[Bug 313218] Re: IPV6 causes slow internet access

2009-01-03 Thread marmuta
Replace the ip with the one of your router.

This dumps dns traffic only, probably what you need:
sudo tcpdump -nls128 host 192.168.1.1 and port 53 | tee tcpdump.txt

This dumps everything going from/to your router:
sudo tcpdump -nls128 host 192.168.1.1 | tee tcpdump.txt

[Bug 245313] Re: list index out of range

2009-01-03 Thread hackel
Still was getting this with fretsonfire-game 1.2.512.dfsg-3, but
discovered that it was caused because I had fretsonfire-game installed,
but not fretsonfire. Not sure there is any point on having this package
installable by itself.
