There should be no regression potential with this. The current version in Intrepid tells the user to install ffmpeg from Medibuntu, which does not have a ffmpeg for this release. There is no bug, because there is no such thing as PDO::SQlite3 You can use the string sqlite as a DSN for the PDO driver, as in $dbHandle = new PDO('sqlite:test-sqlite3.db'); which opens a connection to a sqlite3 database. Alright, So its now been about 4 months since I started to experience this problem... and I'm feeling a little abandoned. Yea, I know that I'm just one guy with a couple of potentially imaginary friends... [Bug 313630] [NEW] FF3.0.5 overwrites Ubuntu menubar
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 On open in Intrepid, FF fills entire screen, blocking out Ubuntu menu bar (top) and the status bar (bottom), but still showing it's own menu and the bookmarks toolbar. An F11 switches it to true fullscreen, then a second F11 displays FF as it should, with Intrepid menu bar redisplayed, Firefox w/menu and toolsbar, and status bar below. Also, Help/About achieves similar behavior, but w/o the FF menu bar showing, and the Intrepid menu/status bar restored. When you click on the placeholder in the status bar, you have options to minimize or unmaximize. When you minimize and maximize again, you're back where you started, with the Intrepid menu gone and the status bar gone. Unmaximize has no effect. System is AMD Athlon with onboard video. [Bug 313632] [NEW] Evolution hides Inbox messages for no reason
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I recently reinstalled ubuntu 8.10 on my laptop. On December 23, I was consolidating files on my system, using cp -auv from prior backups to get my most recent settings etc. into my home directory from several different backups. I may have overwritten something, although the more recent settings should have been preserved. From that time on, almost all messages downloaded from the pop3 server are not hidden, but are not shown, either. I have 1700+ messages in my Inbox, all correctly downloaded from my pop3 server, and properties on the Inbox tab gives the right number, but evolution only sees 2, and they seem to be random (same sender, no diff from others I can see). There are no filters on the box. Hiding/showing deleted, hidden or read messages makes no difference. Removing bogofilter made no difference, same with adding spamassassin. Expunging makes no difference. I can send a new message to myself, and upon receipt back from the server, it will immediately join the other invisible messages--it is there, but evolution never displays it. Blowing away .gonf/apps/evolution and .evolution will cause the all messages to be re-downloaded, but strangely, it doesn't ask for my new password/account info. Likewise if I delete the account in evolution and recreate it, it doesn't re-prompt for passwords. None of these actions solve the issue. [Bug 313643] [NEW] dd produced wrong output
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: coreutils I used dd ( coreutils 6.10.6ubuntu1, Ubuntu 8.10, Release 8.10) to look at the last sector of the ntfs partition on my external hard drive: sudo dd if=/dev/sdb1 skip=142464419 of=last_sector count=1 This last sector is supposed to be the backup boot sector, but the binary file last_sector only contained zeros. I booted from a Knoppix CD (coreutils 5.97) and the same command produced a file which did indeed contained the boot sector of the ntfs partition. I then looked at the same sector from Ubuntu 8.10 via sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=last_sector skip=167043869 count=1 and last_sector contained the boot_sector I repeated the first command from a second Ubuntu 8.10 on my external hard drive, and again got nothing but zeros. I also did sudo dd if=/dev/sdb1 skip=142464415 of=last_sector1 count=5 and sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=last_sector2 skip=167043865 count=5 from Ubuntu 8.10 and the first sector in the two files were identical, but the last four sectors in the first file had nothing but zeroes, while the second file ended correctly in the boot sector. So this seems to be a bug in the coreutils 6.10.6ubuntu1 package. ** Affects: coreutils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- dd produced wrong output https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 262817] Re: [NM 0.7 - intrepid] DHCP org.freedesktop.Dbus.Error.AccessDenied
I can confirm the same problem just upgraded a stock 8.04 Hardy with Network Manager 0.7 to 8.10 Intrepid. My wired and wireless networking stopped working. DHCP wasn't working for any interface. DHCP worked fine before the upgrade. I was able to manually configure a network interface, but was then blocked from reinstalling 'network manager' by 'network manager' itself claiming I was still 'offline' (the same thing that network manager uses to screw up bluetooth networking and firefox/thunderbird). After reading this bug: By changing the user from 'dhcp' to 'root' in the '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-dhcp-client.conf' I was able to get DHCP going again. Like the rest of us with this problem I have certainly never edited or even heard of the '/etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-dhcp-client.conf' file. Upgrading to 8.10 has been a huge disaster/regression for networking particularly for netbook users (most problems have been related to drivers used in the market leading netbooks like ASUS and Acer). I've just spent hours reading many many web pages and forum posts from the many suffering Ubuntu users who upgraded and found their networking stopped working, PPTP stopped working, DHCP stopping working, and a few other problems. Then, with no working network, they have extra problems trying to restore their systems. I read several angry venting people say they are giving up on Ubuntu completely and going back to XP. That's sad for all the hard work the Ubuntu team and community put in. 8.10 may have many improvements but I think it has been a net set-back for the Ubuntu/Linux community. Some sort of bold warning about the networking regressions should be added to the upgrade process or a fix applied to 8.10 otherwise more Ubuntu users will suffer if they upgrade their Hardy installations. Even if just a warning to wait for Jaunty or something. [Bug 273558] Re: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid
/usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 coexists perfectly well with /usr/lib/libopenal.so.1 There is no reason to remove this package completely. Simply putting the files there from an earlier Ubuntu version makes applications (that may be impossible to fix, as you well know) happy. While we are at it, lets remove awesfx like Fedora did. That's obsolete as well... nevermind that it's still needed, as libopenal.so.0 still is. -- /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273558 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 313633] Re: [needs-packaging] Alice (programming education software)
** Description changed: + [needs-packaging] Alice + Alice is software designed to teach programming easily, and with graphical, 3D output. It focuses on storytelling, not computation, as a way to get students interested. It has been shown to significantly increase the likelihood of new programming students to stick with it, and do better. It uses a simple drag and drop structure to teach students how programs are formed. It is primarily made by Carnegie Mellon, and has had contribution and support (of code or capital) from Google, the NSF, Microsoft, Disney, DARPA, Pixar, Intel, Chevron, NASA, and others. Electronic Arts has been a major contributor, and Alice 3.0 (released in a few months) will use models donated from The Sims 2. [Bug 122993] Re: ondemand governor does not use maximum frequency under load
I did have the same problem as unggnu. For example just using firefox would never change the cpu frequency from the lowest 1GHz (on a AMD 6000+ with a maximum frequency of 3GHz ). I was playing around with the settings and my on_demand scaling seams to be working as it should after I did the following: sudo modprobe cpufreq_ondemand Now it scales up to 3GHz briefly when loading youtube in firefox for example.
