Tapani-

I very much appreciate the detail with which you have constructed your
report, as well as your followup which provides a hint as to how one
might fix this issue. Thank you! But you are describing a different
issue, which is deeper, and more involved.

Please, please, please open a new bug report against mdadm ;-)

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2009-02-03 Thread Tom Chiverton
One thing I only just figured out: if you are using the umountcifs script
linked above, you also need to set the network as a system setting, otherwise
it's pulled down when you exit KDE/Gnome and still leaves the umount hanging
during shutdown/reboot.
I made sure network-manager-gnome was installed, logged out of KDE, choose
GNOME from the log in menu, and used GNOME's network manager to set the
connection property.
Note there is a bug in *that* program, so you have to make sure both 'automatic
connect' and 'system setting' are unticked, then tick 'system' then 'automatic'.

[Bug 316441] Re: PHP session garbage collection

2009-02-03 Thread Phil Bayfield
In the [Session] section of php.ini there is the following:

; Define the probability that the 'garbage collection' process is started
; on every session initialization.
; The probability is calculated by using gc_probability/gc_divisor,
; e.g. 1/100 means there is a 1% chance that the GC process starts
; on each request.

; This is disabled in the Debian packages, due to the strict permissions
; on /var/lib/php5. Instead of setting this here, see the cronjob at
; /etc/cron.d/php5, which uses the session.gc_maxlifetime setting below
session.gc_probability = 1
session.gc_divisor = 100

The default for session.gc_probability in Ubuntu is 0.

What does work:

Using standard PHP stuff, keeping sessions stored in default path of
/var/lib/php5

What doesn't work:

Changing session path to another folder either in php.ini or using an ini_set
etc (although the cron job can be modified). (For example we use an NFS share
for standard PHP sessions so sessions are valid accross multiple web servers.)
Using session_set_save_handler to modify default session storage functions of
php.

Granted for most users the default functionality provided currently with
php5 packages will be absolutely fine, but for larger, more complex and
distributed PHP applications it breaks the functionality without
modification back to php defaults.

[Bug 316441] Re: PHP session garbage collection

2009-02-03 Thread Ondřej Surý
So you basically complain that you have to modify gc settings when you
are already modifying some other settings in non-standard way? Debian
way is properly documented, and you cannot expect everything to be
magickally working out of the box. Default install is ok, non-default
install has to be modified anyway.

Looks like candidate for invalid bug report to me.

[Bug 324674] Re: ***core system*** UNIX level bug

2009-02-03 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for reporting this issue, but the fact that the root user has
full control over the system is not a bug, or a security issue. I would
suggest not running as root and to use the sudo command when specific
actions are needed to be taken as the root user.

In order to compromise the init scripts, you need to have root
privileges, so that is not an attack vector.

Marking this bug as invalid.

[Bug 324518] Re: Overly large fonts

2009-02-03 Thread Max Bowsher
Likewise, I also have the issue on my ThinkPad Z61p, ATI graphics. So
it's looking like it's not a driver issue, sounds more like the existing
font scaling algorithms bias themselves toward excessively large fonts,
making inefficient use of screen real-estate.

[Bug 324733] [NEW] Gadmin-squid delete your squid config and install a non working one instead

2009-02-03 Thread Lionel Dricot
Public bug reported:

1) Install gadmin-squid to try it out

2) Launch gadmin-squid. It will tells you that it wants to create a new
configuration and that, if you are not sure, should be what you want.

3) I agreed to that, thinking it was a gadmin configuration only.

4) Your squid configuration is deleted (no way to have it back !) and
squid doesn't launch anymore because the new configuration is full of
unknown command.

This is simply not acceptable. gadmin should always backup your configuration
before changing anything. Also, if a squid configuration exists, it should use
it, not put its own (not everybody is starting it with an empty config, it
should read the existing config). And last but not least, gadmin should have a
working default config.

nothing I can do as ffmpeg package maintainer with this bug.

[Bug 324485] Re: gnome-display-properties quits with segmentation fault

2009-02-03 Thread Erki Hallingu
I was able to get it working with :

1) add manually following lines to xorg.conf
DefaultDepth24
SubSection Display
Modes 1920x1200 1280x800
Virtual 3200 1200
EndSubSection
2) restart X (logout and login again)
3) start gnome-display-properties
4) gnome-display-properties now displays only one monitor
5) to get both monitor visible, I checked Mirror screen checmark (press Apply
after that) and then uncheck again Mirror screen with another press of Apply.
6) Now I can see both of my monitors and configure them normally in
gnome-display-properties dialog

With smaller external monitor or without external monitor, all these
manual steps are not needed and gnome-display-properties application
adds required lines (Virtual display definition) to xorg.conf
automatically.

[Bug 309215] Re: fortran-using components need to be split out

2009-02-03 Thread Andrew Straw
The page at http://numpy.scipy.org/array_interface.shtml is out of date.
This work became PEP 3118, and is now part of Python 2.6 and 3.0:
http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-3118/

Also, as far as I know, there are no plans to put Numpy into Python
core.

As far as pygtk, once it supports PEP 3118, it's doubtful that it will
need to depend on numpy. I guess that's unlikely to happen before
Jaunty, however.

[Bug 210782] Re: wifi not working on Lenovo 3000 V100 nor does camera or finger scanner

2009-02-03 Thread Michele Mangili
Hello Payteer.

Regarding the fingerprint reader, I can see from bug #179923 that it
seems to work fine! Instead the driver for your webcam is still under
heavy development as you can see (bug #55567) . Since your problem has
already been reported, I'm going to close this report.

In case that the fingerprint reader or your webcam still do not work as
expected, I suggest you should drop a comment to bug reports #179923 or
#55567.

Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Have changed my sources.list to point to archive.ubuntu.com and have
dist-upgraded. There are no new updates now.

I am getting past the GDM login screen again but once I try to login it
hangs at the wallpaper. Cursor is not an arrow this time, though. Cursor
is the busy/working ball and the segments are frozen (not moving round
like they normally do). Still unable to switch to a console session from
that point.

[Bug 324519] Re: Iagno closes down when last move played Version 2.24.1.1

2009-02-03 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 225424] Re: readom and cdrdao fails to read anything from audio disks

2009-02-03 Thread Martin Emrich
Thanks! Actually, the man page indeed says read or write _data_ Compact
Discs, I tried to read an audio cd to an ISO image.

That leaves the original bug reporter's hang with cdrdao.

Milan, did you try cdrdao directly, e.g. cdrdao read-cd myaudiocd.toc?
Maybe try disabling HAL device polling with hal-disable-polling --device
/dev/scd0 during the attempt. You can reenable it with hal-disable-polling
--enable-polling --device /dev/scd0 afterwards...

[Bug 324745] [NEW] Plugin's not working for Firefox 3.0.5 in Intrepid

2009-02-03 Thread James Usmar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Hello,

I've set up a default install of Ubuntu (Intrepid) for my son, and we
started firefox (3.0.5) to load the Cbeebies children's website. On
loading the page below we keep getting multiple plug-ins required - fine
- but then it only installs one at a time. Once you go round and round
installing all of them, in sequence, it still doesn't work.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/teletubbies/funandgames/animalsounds/index.shtml?frog

Any advance on how to fix it?

PS please can the Adobe reader/flash etc be supported for Ubuntu via a
default support source - I cannot get them to install from Adobe.

Best wishes and thanks,
James Usmar

[Bug 324751] [NEW] Bad formatting when text document in saved as MS Word97

2009-02-03 Thread ludo33200
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Open an MSOffice Word 2002 SP3 template (.dot) with OpenOffice Text

OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 Text Writer
OOO300m15 (Build 9379)
openoffice.org-core 1:3.0.1-1ubuntu1intrepid1, Fri Jan 30 17:50:52 UTC 20

Use the template : add text, some pictures

Save the document as MSOffice 97/2000/XP
At this time the document seens OK

Re-open the saved MS Office document in OpenOffice 3 (above release) :
a) trouble displaying the tables for the 2 first pages
b) space between paragraph number and text for Titre 1 style (and ithe title
styles also) has changed (text moved from 0,75 cm to 6 cm + tab has been moved
to 5.25 cm to 6 cm

At this step then document form has chaned but still can be used in OpenOffice
Openning thig document in MS Word 2002 SP3 however makes the document cannot be
used :
- number of pages moves from 6 to 112 (approximatly 1 ligne per page !)

Found workarround: saved the document as RTF. Some formatting also lost
but usable in MSOffice

Added some attachement to show what appends (1 zip archive file)
- CROfficeTemplate.dot = original MSOffice Template
- CRooo3doc_asMS97.doc = saved as MS Word 97/2000/XP (never openned in MS Word
at this step)
- CRooo3doc_asRTF.rtf = saved as RTF (seems to be acceptable workarround)
- oo3_about.jpg = screen copy of my openOffice version (included in documents)

[Bug 324252] Re: I try to run Synaptic Package Manager, and it gives the following error: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache-open(

2009-02-03 Thread Michele Mangili
Hi Shane!

Your bug has already been reported, it is bug #262451 . For this reason
I should close this report.

Could you please follow these steps?

1) Open a Terminal
2) Run this command: sudo dpkg --audit. It will output a message like this:
The following packages are only half configured, probably due to problems
configuring them the first time. The configuration should be retried using
dpkg --configure package or the configure menu option in dselect:
gxine the xine video player, GTK+/Gnome user interface
(NOTE that the last line may be different, and it is the most important!!! For
example it could report a problem with program 'console-setup', or another
program as well!)
3) Delete the program reported in the output message of sudo dpkg --audit,
using this command sudo dpkg --remove name_of_the_program
4) Run sudo dpkg --configure -a
5) Run sudo dpkg --install name_of_the_program

And try to open synaptic once again!

Could you please tell us if this procedure has solved your problem?
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 272406] Re: cannot start gnome X in intrepid (gray screen with horizontal thin flashing black lines)

2009-02-03 Thread Niklas Höglund
Just a note that I get the same white screen with random flashing
horizontal line segments on a Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 1GB (GV-R485MC-
1GH). I didn't see any rainbow patterns, though.

This happens both in Intrepid and the alpha 3 release of Jaunty.

Vesa does work, but can't set the resolution of my display, so text gets
very blurry.
