[Bug 374012] Re: Activating Broadcom STA proprietary driver on MacBook blocks keyboard
I spoke too soon. I tried to connect to the wifi network from Network- Manager and I immediately lost use of the keyboard on Gnome. The keyboard works well on the console though. I checked what files were modified in the last minutes and I found out that these two gconf files were modified: /home/reed/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/host-biancone/0 /home/reed/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/host-biancone/0/%gconf.xml I removed them, rebooted and now the keybard works just fine. So the issue must be caused by Network-Manager or something else around gnome. -- Activating Broadcom STA proprietary driver on MacBook blocks keyboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 379996] [NEW] When I hover a mouse over a sound file, it plays.
Public bug reported: If I have a sound file on my desktop, and I have my cursor over it, it plays. This leads to very annoying behaviours. Firefox, by default, saves files to the desktop (which is annoying in itself). If you download a sound file, or otherwise end up with one on the desktop (or, presumably, an open window) and happen to leave the cursor in the wrong place, e.g. in a meeting, in a cubicle farm, or anywhere else, the computer starts making loud, obnoxious sounds. This behaviour is poor, obnoxious, and highly counter-intuitive. The benefits of being able to preview sound files seem like they'd be outweighed by the lost jobs and obnoxiousness this can inadvertently cause. The hover delay is also just long enough that you don't immediately know why the sound started playing the first time it happens. It is also not obvious where one would disable this behaviour (right- clicking on a sound file brings no hints) In general, computers should spontaneously make sounds without prompting -- if they do, it becomes much harder to use them in public areas, like offices with cubicle farms, meetings, etc. I am running Ubuntu 9.04. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: If I have a sound file on my desktop, and I have my cursor over it, it plays. [Bug 379871] Re: firefox crashed with signal 7
I've marked the bug private again: the attached CoreDump (memory used by Firefox when it crashed) contains e.g. information about your cookies, and _might_ get used to compromise your Facebook account (if you've been logged in). I recommend you change your password, just to be on the safe side. The bug would get marked public automatically after being retraced (and the CoreDump being removed) - don't know, if that's the case now we both have fiddled with this setting; if it gets not marked public again (after retracing), please do so yourself. Thanks for helping to make Ubuntu better and sorry for the inconvenience. ** Visibility changed to: Private -- firefox crashed with signal 7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379871 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I believe this bug is the same as this one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/345916 It turns out it is due to the gphoto process (which handles MTP mode) attempting to take over access to the Sansa as soon as it is plugged in *EVEN IN MSC MODE*. If you look at the report for that bug, you can fix it by disabling gphoto, by patching gphoto, or by editing its configuration file to prevent it from accessing the Sansa in MSC mode. -- Sansa E280 MP3 mplayer not detected (regression) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355317 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Another me too. :-) Tim Kosse, your original solution (removing the Sansa e2x0 entries from /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi) works great for me. I have not yet tried patching gPhoto to not try and handle USB mass storage devices, but in my opinion this is a sorely needed update. It is quite mystifying to connect a USB drive and not see any device nodes get created!!! And /var/lib/messages gives no indication of the voodoo done by HAL, which made it even harder to track this bug down for me... :-( -- usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello, I encountered this bug and managed to solve it. Here is the situation and the solution: In Ubuntu 9.04, I was trying to add a printer connected to a Vista Business PC in the same local network. I had turned this Vista PC on and I had logged in with the user Peter (who doesn't have a password). When going to System-Administration-Printers , I went to New and then Windows Printer via Samba. I was able to find the printer without problems and the test page printed no problem. However, next time I printed something, I got the can't prompt for authorization error. I tried the copy paste printer solution, and it let me print one more time, but next time I got the error again. My solution? When adding the samba printer, after filling the smb: text field, don't forget to go to Authentication and put Peter in the username field (you should obviously write the password too if you have one). -- cups says can't promp for authorization when printing to my samba printer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283811 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 306755] Re: SigmaTel STAC9205: Headphone Jack Not Working
Well, I would have to say that the original bug is fixed. The extra line : options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 model=eapd didn't fix anything related to rhythmbox being stopped by playing flash first. But THE HEADPHONES NOW WORK, which is the original bug. . On a more positive note, the alsaPlayer works fine with flash playing at the same time, before or after. So I guess I'll just switch to the AlsaPlayer. I'll probably talk to the RhythmBox folks eventually. -- SigmaTel STAC9205: Headphone Jack Not Working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306755 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 354707] Re: [Jaunty] Microphone doesn't work at all on Eee 900
The trick proposed by David Travis worked for me though looking at it it does make sense (no reason to mute Front Mic at 100 % level) ; now I can use Skype and Audacity with a microphone ; all this is not really satisfactory ; here are a few remarks : (1) I use as proposed by David gnome-volume-control under KDE but I imagine alsa-mixer could also works as well ; however the problem is that when running gnome-volume-control in console mode if I close gnome-volume-control (Ctrl D) and repoen it all the setting is still there except that the microphon is MUTED ; we can here that there is a bug because I do no see any reason to loose some features as set in settings whichever the mixer I use ; of course re-opening a session shows the same problem : microphone is MUTED ; as here I am using a KDE session it might be due an incompatibility between KMix and gnome-volume-control but normally not except if PulseAudio is interfering here. (2) gnome-volume-control is very confusing in Playback we have : - Front Mic - Front Mic Boost - Micro - Mic Boost this for me is beyond my comprehension. (3) aumix shows a record setting but even when gnome-volume-control in Record tab shows a MUTED microphone recording is still on in aumix (4) KMix shows only playback features but there is no tab for record features where you can select a source input or a level of record as it used to do. (5) I tried to recompile alsa 1.0.20 but without the trick proposed by David I had the same probem at to my microphone. I am using a X2 64 bit machine. I will pursue my tests with Gnome to check whether sond settings are kept from one session to another.
