[Bug 374012] Re: Activating Broadcom STA proprietary driver on MacBook blocks keyboard

2009-05-24 Thread Stefano Maffulli
I spoke too soon. I tried to connect to the wifi network from Network-
Manager and I immediately lost use of the keyboard on Gnome. The
keyboard works well on the console though. I checked what files were
modified in the last minutes and I found out that these two gconf files
were modified:

/home/reed/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/host-biancone/0
/home/reed/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/host-biancone/0/%gconf.xml

I removed them, rebooted and now the keybard works just fine. So the
issue must be caused by Network-Manager or something else around gnome.

[Bug 379990] [NEW] Evolution does not properly sync recurring events in Google Calendar

2009-05-24 Thread Vincent Veilleux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In evolution 2.26.1, if I create a recurring event, only the first event
appears in Google calendar. If I create the same recurring event in
Google calendar, evolution only shows the first event.

Being able to sync evolution and Google Calendar both ways is a great
feature and is working very well for me since 2.26.1. This bug with
recurring events is the only problem I have had so far.

[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver

2009-05-24 Thread Arjen Raateland
BTW, I also installed the new firmware for the wireless network card
with b43.fw-cutter as indicated in the Hardware drivers item on the same
menu as where the STA driver can be found after temporarily deactivating
STA. I didn't notice any problems with updating the firmware, but it
didn't do away with the problem of the wireless connection being
dropped, either. I can't remember seeing any information as to what the
firmware update is supposed to correct.

[Bug 379991] [NEW] Certain VMs do not run under KVM using 2.6.30-rc5 kernel

2009-05-24 Thread Bob Manners
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

I have a number of virtual machines set up which run correctly under KVM
(using Virtual Machine Manager / libvirt) with Jaunty kernel 2.6.28-11.

When I boot kernel 2.6.30-rc5 (vmlinuz-2.6.30-020630rc5-generic), the
current Karmic alpha kernel, KVM is unable to run some of my virtual
machines, but others work OK. The ones that do not work appear to
freeze very early in the boot process, spinning the CPU.

Working OK under 2.6.30-rc5:
- FreeBSD 7.1
- Kubuntutu 09.04
- Minix 3

Fail to boot under 2.6.30-rc5, but boot OK with 2.6.28-10:
- Windows XP
- Windows 7 Beta
- OpenSolaris 09.11

Please let me know if you would like me to collect any diagnostic data
to assist in tracking down this regression.

[Bug 379992] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 LiveCD will not load on my Dell M2010 – EIP error

2009-05-24 Thread rebski
Public bug reported:

Live CD/DVD of Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu and freeze a moment after I
select ‘Try Without any changes to your computer’.

I also tried putting the CD images on DVD disks.

The error code given is:-
Unknown interrupt or fault at EIP 0097 0098 bd80

This is a common problem on many Linux distros and has been around for
several years now. Google it and see what I mean.

In fact I have found it to be so with all the Alpha, Beta and RC
versions of 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04. The only difference being that it was
fixed in the final version of 8.04 and 8.10 but not, sadly, 9.04.

The md5sum on the CD/DVD has been checked and is correct. In any event
the same disks work fine on my Clevo laptop and Shuttle desktop.

[Bug 379996] [NEW] When I hover a mouse over a sound file, it plays.

2009-05-24 Thread Jose Jim
Public bug reported:

If I have a sound file on my desktop, and I have my cursor over it, it
plays. This leads to very annoying behaviours. Firefox, by default,
saves files to the desktop (which is annoying in itself). If you
download a sound file, or otherwise end up with one on the desktop (or,
presumably, an open window) and happen to leave the cursor in the wrong
place, e.g. in a meeting, in a cubicle farm, or anywhere else, the
computer starts making loud, obnoxious sounds.

This behaviour is poor, obnoxious, and highly counter-intuitive. The
benefits of being able to preview sound files seem like they'd be
outweighed by the lost jobs and obnoxiousness this can inadvertently
cause. The hover delay is also just long enough that you don't
immediately know why the sound started playing the first time it
happens.

It is also not obvious where one would disable this behaviour (right-
clicking on a sound file brings no hints)

In general, computers should spontaneously make sounds without prompting
-- if they do, it becomes much harder to use them in public areas, like
offices with cubicle farms, meetings, etc.

I am running Ubuntu 9.04.

[Bug 379871] Re: firefox crashed with signal 7

2009-05-24 Thread Daniel Hahler
I've marked the bug private again: the attached CoreDump (memory used by
Firefox when it crashed) contains e.g. information about your cookies, and
_might_ get used to compromise your Facebook account (if you've been logged in).
I recommend you change your password, just to be on the safe side.

The bug would get marked public automatically after being retraced (and
the CoreDump being removed) - don't know, if that's the case now we both
have fiddled with this setting; if it gets not marked public again
(after retracing), please do so yourself.

Thanks for helping to make Ubuntu better and sorry for the
inconvenience.

2009-05-24 Thread Dan Lenski
I believe this bug is the same as this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/345916

It turns out it is due to the gphoto process (which handles MTP mode)
attempting to take over access to the Sansa as soon as it is plugged in
*EVEN IN MSC MODE*. If you look at the report for that bug, you can fix
it by disabling gphoto, by patching gphoto, or by editing its
configuration file to prevent it from accessing the Sansa in MSC mode.

[Bug 355998] Re: usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

2009-05-24 Thread Dan Lenski
Another me too. :-)

Tim Kosse, your original solution (removing the Sansa e2x0 entries from
/usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi) works great
for me.

I have not yet tried patching gPhoto to not try and handle USB mass
storage devices, but in my opinion this is a sorely needed update. It
is quite mystifying to connect a USB drive and not see any device nodes
get created!!!

And /var/lib/messages gives no indication of the voodoo done by HAL,
which made it even harder to track this bug down for me... :-(

While I do sometimes forget myself and click too wildly, the problem is
annoying enough for me to pay close attention when trying to read my

As the problem also arose at the beginning of sessions, it couldn't be a
question of closing and restarting too soon.

2009-05-24 Thread Dan Lenski
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 355998 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355998

This bug should be merged with 355998
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgphoto2/+bug/355998)

Long story short: the gphoto2 library handles MP3 players in MTP mode.
Due to a bug in gphoto2 *and* a problem with its HAL configuration
files, it tries to take over the Sansa MP3 player when it is plugged in
to the computer. Thus no /dev/sdXX nodes get created.

gphoto2 has been patched upstream, and there are temporary fixes by
modifying the gphoto2/HAL configuration files. See the bug I linked to.

[Bug 374327] Re: balazar 0.1-4 FTBFS due to python2.5 to python 2.6 transition

2009-05-24 Thread Michael Bienia
Please check the next time if there is already a bug open about it.

I've merged now the first bug to this one, as this debdiff looks better.
I didn't check if the setup.py install call needs the usual
--install-layout=deb or not. Please check that no file ends getting install
to /usr/local.

use UXA because it fix problems with artifacts in OpenGL applications

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says can't promp for authorization when printing to my samba printer

2009-05-24 Thread David Martín Clavo
Hello,
I encountered this bug and managed to solve it. Here is the situation and the
solution:

In Ubuntu 9.04, I was trying to add a printer connected to a Vista
Business PC in the same local network. I had turned this Vista PC on and
I had logged in with the user Peter (who doesn't have a password).

When going to System-Administration-Printers , I went to New and then
Windows Printer via Samba. I was able to find the printer without problems
and the test page printed no problem.
However, next time I printed something, I got the can't prompt for
authorization error.

I tried the copy paste printer solution, and it let me print one more
time, but next time I got the error again.

My solution?

When adding the samba printer, after filling the smb: text field, don't
forget to go to Authentication and put Peter in the username field
(you should obviously write the password too if you have one).

[Bug 306755] Re: SigmaTel STAC9205: Headphone Jack Not Working

2009-05-24 Thread gearond
Well, I would have to say that the original bug is fixed. The extra line :
 options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 model=eapd
didn't fix anything related to rhythmbox being stopped by playing flash first.
But THE HEADPHONES NOW WORK, which is the original bug.
.
On a more positive note, the alsaPlayer works fine with flash playing at the
same time, before or after. So I guess I'll just switch to the AlsaPlayer. I'll
probably talk to the RhythmBox folks eventually.

[Bug 190643] Re: freedroidRPG crashed with SIGSEGV in XUngrabPointer()

2009-05-24 Thread Connor Imes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 380008 ***

I mentioned it above:

 Luckybackup will come through debian

It's a matter of a couple of days to be synchronized from Debian
repositories.

[Bug 354707] Re: [Jaunty] Microphone doesn't work at all on Eee 900

2009-05-24 Thread dmoyne
The trick proposed by David Travis worked for me though looking at it it does
make sense (no reason to mute Front Mic at 100 % level) ; now I can use Skype
and Audacity with a microphone ; all this is not really satisfactory ; here are
a few remarks :
(1) I use as proposed by David gnome-volume-control under KDE but I imagine
alsa-mixer could also works as well ; however the problem is that when running
gnome-volume-control in console mode if I close gnome-volume-control (Ctrl D)
and repoen it all the setting is still there except that the microphon is MUTED
; we can here that there is a bug because I do no see any reason to loose some
features as set in settings whichever the mixer I use ; of course re-opening a
session shows the same problem : microphone is MUTED ; as here I am using a KDE
session it might be due an incompatibility between KMix and
gnome-volume-control but normally not except if PulseAudio is interfering here.
(2) gnome-volume-control is very confusing in Playback we have :
- Front Mic
- Front Mic Boost
- Micro
- Mic Boost
this for me is beyond my comprehension.
(3) aumix shows a record setting but even when gnome-volume-control in Record
tab shows a MUTED microphone recording is still on in aumix
(4) KMix shows only playback features but there is no tab for record features
where you can select a source input or a level of record as it used to do.
(5) I tried to recompile alsa 1.0.20 but without the trick proposed by David I
had the same probem at to my microphone.

I am using a X2 64 bit machine.

I will pursue my tests with Gnome to check whether sond settings are kept from
one session to another.
Regards.
