I'm not sure that my mysqld apparmor profile allows access to custom datadir
location.
When I try to connect to mysql via phpMyAdmin, this error appear : #2002 - Le
serveur ne répond pas. (ou l'interface de connexion

Please help me !

 According to datadir.cnf:

 [mysqld]
 datadir = /home/jean-claude/mysql

You're using a non-standard location for you datadirectory. You need to
update mysqld apparmor profile to take into account the non-standard
location of datadir. Only /var/lib/mysql/ is supported by default.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor for more information about
 Debugging AppArmor related issues.

Could you make sure that your mysqld apparmor profile allows access to
 your custom datadir location?

[Bug 329974] Re: SIGSEGV in _nss_dns_gethostbyname2_r() browsing Samba printers, i386 only

2009-06-13 Thread Stefan Radovanovici
I am running Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 with the latest patches and in
Administration-Printing-New Printer-Network Printer I do not have any
Windows printer via SAMBA option. The printer I am trying to print is
valid and working (several other windows boxes print to it). smbclient
-L server also shows correctly the shared printer.

Any ideas ?

I also run Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64 and have no problem at all, although it was
present on the same machine when I ran the i386 version. This problem
does not seem to exist in 64-bit Ubuntu. I suspect that you have a setup
problem. I recommend that you read the post at the following link:

2009-06-13 Thread the motorman
just install smbclient .. you can do this in the command window, not
abslotuley sure but I think it is something like:
sudo apt-get install smbclient
Make sure that samba is not loaded when you do this. you need to do a stop
on samba if it is running.
This worked great fro me under Ubuntu 9.04 and solved my inability to print
on a win box printer in my LAN.

[Bug 386867] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.0 5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-06-13 Thread Jonathan Marsden
The mysql apparmor profiles work fine for me here (Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04).

Please describe what you mean by the profiles being bogus in
considerably more depth. Please be constructive -- suggest imrpovements
to them if you feel they are needed.

If you have chosen to manually move MySQL database files into a non-standard
location,
you will need to adjust your apparmor profiles to reflect that non-standard
change.

Please note that removing /etc/init.d/apparmor is *not* in any sense a
way to fix this properly and reduces overall system security.

Hi,
thanks for your help but it hasn't changed much.
I have attached various screen captures so that you can see what settings I
have.
The microphone works but recording through the microphone is impossible.
By the way I am certainly not a computer geek so that means that
explanations have to be as simple as possible.
Anyway thanks very much for your help

2009/6/13 Bryce Salmi bts2...@rit.edu

Thank you for reporting here. Are you using ALSA ? if you go to the
terminal and type in alsamixer you should get to a screen showing more
audio settings, make sure your mic and/or line in is not muted. If you
use the arrow keys to navigate through the selections you can increase
or decrease the levels with the up and down keys. Let us know if this
 is any help.

[Bug 326674] Re: Logitech Quickcam E2500 not supported

2009-06-13 Thread Bruce Crowther
I just enabled Jaunty Proposed, and straight away the Quickcam E2500
works, albeit with a small green margin in the bottom of the frame.

Works with Skype straight out of the box, and the sound quality with
Skype is far superior to the ratty old budget, budget, budget webcam I
bought for NZ$9.01 in an online auction when the Logitech wouldn't work
on Intrepid: the sound quality makes up for the green line.

Nice work, those responsible!

Regards,
Bruce.

[Bug 384452] Re: why do i have to run sudo dhclient eth0 everytime i had to got to internet

2009-06-13 Thread kamal
Hello IanW

Thanks for responding to my question

I believe this is not a bug . I should have put it in the different
category.

When I installed i have used pppoe connection using pppoeconf ( i have
installed in my friends house)
At my home i have ADSL broadband connection . When i turn on the modem i am
connected to internet
This may be the reason ubuntu not able to recognise the modem unless i do
sudo dhclient eth0

  Thanks a lot anyway

I reiterate this is not a bug

[Bug 386199] Re: Long delay before new/compose window appears

2009-06-13 Thread Craig Ringer
Cloning my comment from the GNOME bug, since I've identified pretty much
exactly what factor controls whether or not this issue happens:

If you enable your local X server to listen on TCP/IP (on most GNOME desktops,
edit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf (may be /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf depending on
distro/version) and change DisallowTCP=true to DisallowTCP=false then
restart GDM, you can reproduce this running directly on your normal X server.

If you run with DISPLAY=:0.0 (assuming you're on DISPLAY 0) the compose
window appears in about a second. If you run with DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0
it takes 15 or more seconds to appear.

Here's an interesting example. I have two terminals, with prompts T1$
and T2$ . In T1 I'll launch Evolution, talking on a UNIX domain
socket. On T2 I'll then time how long it takes to open a compose window
by using the command time evolution mailto:t...@nowhere.org;. The
remote invocation only terminates when the mail window has displayed, so
we can time how long it takes to display quite accurately. Once I've
timed that, I'll exit evolution on T1, reopen it with a TCP/IP
connection, and repeat the test on T2. Observe the difference:

T1$ DISPLAY=:0.0 evolution
** (evolution:26183): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP
** (evolution:26183): DEBUG: EI: mail_read_notify
** (evolution:26183): DEBUG: MAIL SERVER: Count changed: 0
T2$ time evolution mailto:t...@nowhere.org
real0m0.830s
user0m0.160s
sys 0m0.030s
T1$ DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0 evolution
** (evolution:26236): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP
** (evolution:26236): DEBUG: EI: mail_read_notify
** (evolution:26236): DEBUG: MAIL SERVER: Count changed: 0
T2$ time evolution mailto:t...@nowhere.org
real0m16.742s
user0m0.180s
sys 0m0.030s

0.8 seconds vs 16.7 seconds. The only difference is TCP/IP vs UNIX domain
socket comms.

[Bug 107969] Re: Please add a graphic equalizer in rhythmbox

2009-06-13 Thread Paul Swanson
Oh come on! Include a graphic equalizer in Rhythmbox ... Gstreamer
already has the plugin available just give it a GUI!!

It's only on issues like this that I regret using GNOME. If GTK+/C
weren't so convoluted I might consider having a go at developing one
myself. But life is just too short for GTK+/C. It's kind of ironic, the
minimalist desktop environment is powered by a pig's breakfast of a
development stack, and the most offensively cluttered desktop
environment is powered by a very rational one. Why?!! Could someone
please rebuild GNOME in QT/C++ :P

[Bug 381791] Re: LDAP::SSLConn from ruby fails, probably from not seeing cert

2009-06-13 Thread Xeno Campanoli
I may misunderstand what is going on with this, but it appears there is
no definition of bind specific to my SSL usage inside the sslconn.c
source file given the preprocessor define symbol / state I am
experiencing of USE_OPENLDAP_SSLCONN, the implication seeming to be that
this version of the source file just leaves it, and presumably the
internals it needs, out. Perhaps is it intentionally left broken? More
likely just doesn't have some recent version of something I will see if
I can find it in the version from CentOS or something. I know it works
in CentOS. Still open to suggestions here.

[Bug 386632] [NEW] Standard placement of buttons

2009-06-13 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Gnome apps that have a Close button and an Action buttons usually place
the Close one to the left and the Action one to the right. The lyrics
window, however, does it the other way round.

Could it follow the usual layout?

[Bug 386631] [NEW] Synaptic damage gnome-menu in special cases

2009-06-13 Thread Tuxzoologie
Public bug reported:

This is a suggestion: Synaptic should kill alacarte before a menu update starts.
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

Scenario: User have alacarte running to change something on the gnome
menus. Now synaptic make a update that trigger a gnome-menu change. The
user will see a flash and flicker in alacarte, after this he has a empty
user menu in his panel. Alacarte wont start anymore to fix this, the
menu structure file ist somewhat hosed that alacarte crash. Only
deleting .config/menu gives the basic menu back, all user changes are
lost.

[Bug 298371] Re: Unison does not connect to ssh server

2009-06-13 Thread feranick
The problem is simply related to the fact that unison is not backword
compatible both on server and client side. So if the client has a
different version of unison than in the server, the error shows up. In
the specific case, If my jaunty-client runs on the version of unison for
jaunty, it will not connect to a hardy-server with /in a previous
version.previous version of unison. The only way to fix this is to
upgrade unison in hardy to the same version of the client.

[Bug 368877] Re: Fonts corrupted on Thinkpad X30

2009-06-13 Thread Alex Thompson
I've done a bit of reading and I think this is a memory leak bug in the
intel driver. I've been using the driver in UXA mode and recently
upgraded to the optimal driver in the guide in the forums. (Which
means I probably shouldn't be reporting bugs)

I found when I have corruption my memory is full and swap is half full.
When I restart X, memory usage returns to a sensible level and
corruption disappears. The bug report linked below may be the upstream
bug.

Thanks for your fast reply. This was also what I was thinking of first,
but the problem remained even after I had uninstalled and reinstalled
the latest nvidia drivers about 4 times in the way you describe it. In
jaunty I always used the latest nvidia drivers from nvidia directly and
never had these problems.
I will give the ubuntu drivers a try. Do you have the link for the PPAs...?
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 386641] [NEW] [Gigabyte EP45-DS3L] resume failure/corruption with 2.6.30 [regression]

2009-06-13 Thread unggnu
Public bug reported:

I am using the latest bios version and suspend/resume works fine in
Jaunty and with Kernel 2.6.29 but it stops with 2.6.30 release
candidates and still doesn't work in mainline final and of course in the
Karmic version.

Sometimes in very rare cases resume works fine but normally the pc hangs
completely (monitor output doesn't get activated), or I can't do
anything except of moving the mouse or all disks are mounted read-only.

There should be enough information in the upstream report. I have tried
bisecting but there seems to be more than one bad commit or it is more
random than I thought.

resuming properly.

Note I didn't use emblem-foo, I preferred other icons (the most taken
from mimetypes) because they have more colors: emblems are just white
and orange. Do you want to see a screenshot with classic emblems?

[Bug 386644] [NEW] Digikam images not shown

2009-06-13 Thread Toby Newman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

After updating to kde 4.3 beta2, Digikam no longer shows images in the
albums pane on the right.

The files are still there if I look with a file browser.

I tried running digikam from a terminal. The output is here:
http://pastebin.com/f2be609b0

I've tried a full re-boot so KDE is correctly initialised.

I'm told on bugs.kde.org that this is an Ubuntu packaging error:

[Bug 386646] [NEW] Ekiga crashes upon startup

2009-06-13 Thread Fibonacci
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

As the title says, Ekiga crashes upon startup. I see no window, no
configuration menu, no nothing.
When running ekiga from a terminal, all I see is Segmentation fault.

I've obtained a full backtrace (thread apply all bt full) on GDB.

I don't know if this is the same as bug #380146 or not, but I think it's
not because the OP for that bug did manage to see the window for half a
second. That doesn't even happen in my case.

[Bug 386512] Re: No audio preview in dolphin

2009-06-13 Thread ari67
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: dolphin

In KDE 4.3 beta 2 there should be an audio-preview for dolphin. I use
the KDE 4.3 beta 2 for Jaunty Jackalope from the backports repository
but there is no preview for audio-files while the preview of video works
very fine. If you select one audio-file and you want to start playing,
it won't play no song neither in mp3 nor in ogg.

It seems that there is no predefined program for the embedded audio-
preview. Normally Phonon should send the information further to dolphin
but no reaction follows. So maybe there is a packaging problem for
  Jaunty in this case.

[Bug 386648] [NEW] Wishlist: bring back xmms

2009-06-13 Thread Pedro Soria-Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

It's a pitty that xmms is no longer offered in the official Ubuntu
repositories.
If it is considered old, I'd be happy if it is not included in the default
installation of Ubuntu, but at least it should be available on the regular
package sources.

Other music players are too big and cumbersome (rythmbox), or do not
work properly (audacity hangs frequently), or are too complex to use
for simple desktop use (xmms2, for exampl).

xmms is very simple, and that's just the functionality many users want.

I hope it can be considered to be included again in upcoming Ubuntu
releases.

Thanks,

Sorry, these are actually two lines. Can you please give me the output

 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   38 2009-05-01 10:08 server.key -

This looks alright, so it does use the snakeoil ssl certificate, which
has correct permissions.

 According to datadir.cnf:

 [mysqld]
 datadir = /home/jean-claude/mysql

[Bug 386199] Re: Long delay before new/compose window appears

2009-06-13 Thread Craig Ringer
It's a gtkhtml bug, or possibly a libgtk+ bug.

A workaround is to patch libgtkhtml and rebuild it. Instructions:

$ sudo apt-get install fakeroot build-essential wget
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gtkhtml3.14
$ mkdir $HOME/gtkhtml
$ cd $HOME/gtkhtml
$ apt-get source gtkhtml3.14
$ wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27859768/bug585626.diff
$ patch -p0  bug585626.diff
$ ( cd gtkhtml3.14-*  fakeroot debian/rules binary )
$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Your changes WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY REPLACED next time gtkhtml is
updated, so this is only a quick-and-dirty fix. (Yes, you can use
pinning or the like to retain them, but if you need to know how to unpin
later, remember to , etc, or things may go pear-shaped, so I won't
explain that here).

[Bug 96454] Re: [Feisty, Gutsy] MASTER: HP LaserJet 1000/1005/1018/1020 don't work because of missing firmware

2009-06-13 Thread Mario S. Mommer
Hi,

I have an hp1005 here. The first time I went to K- Applications -
Settings - Printing, I actually was able to ask for the plugin to be
installed. However, it simply does not work. I did not find the .dl file
that needs to be uploaded to the printer anywhere on the hard disk (I
searched with 'find / -name \*.dl') so I think it did not download it.
In any case, whatever it downloads never gets uploaded to the printer.

On the disappointing side: the printer gets detected as a brand new
printer every time I turn it on. After repeating that a few times I have
five identical printers, the last one of which is hp-
laserjet-1005-series5 (probably a different bug)

I have a fresh install of Jaunty, using kubuntu-desktop, on a fujitsu
siemens lifebook e-series.

I freshly installed Alpha 1 and dist-upgraded since then.

By the way, I tried booting Fedora 11 from LiveCD (which also has KMS)
and the mouse flickers there as well.

[Bug 386650] [NEW] picking tag icon from own photos is partially broken, last 10 photos unavailable

2009-06-13 Thread Alexander Krivács Schrøder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

$ apt-cache policy f-spot
f-spot:
  Installed: 0.5.0.3-1ubuntu6
  Candidate: 0.5.0.3-1ubuntu6
  Version table:
 *** 0.5.0.3-1ubuntu6 0
500 http://ftp.uninett.no jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected behavior:

When going to Edit Tag and clicking the Icon, one gets the option of
picking from predefined icon, an external photo, or from a photo that
has been tagged with the chosen tag. There's a caption under these
tagged photos, saying e.g. Photo 1 of 12. Using the spin box (Which
should've been a slider, cf. http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-
book/stable/controls-spin-boxes.html.en) one gets to go through all of
these photos and pick one (or parts of one) for the tag icon.

What happened instead:

One can only pick from the (n - 10) first photos. In my example given
above, I would only be able to use Photos 1 and 2 for icons. The rest
would not be available to pick from.

[Bug 386579] Source pdf file for pdftk conversion problem

2009-06-13 Thread chuck adams
http://www.mediafire.com/?v11ec9m8u1i

The above is the PDF file that if I
do a pdftk file cat 1-endS output out.pdf

does not rotate 180 degrees per page as
advertised.

The file was created by
1. scanning individual pages with xsane and
   saving as .ps
2. converting each .ps file to .pdf with ps2pdf
3. then pdftk *pdf cat output source.pdf
which results in the file on mediafire.com

FYI

[Bug 386437] Re: Mouse catched forever with compiz mouse polling

2009-06-13 Thread Tuxzoologie
Turning compiz mouse location off, i got the same problem cause gnome
itself have a mouse locator too. This breaks the escape function from
virtualbox-ose too.

Possible solution: Turn gnome and compiz mouse locator off when using

[Bug 352708] Re: [i915] dualscreen: some screen stays dark after suspend/resume via lid

2009-06-13 Thread Andreas Schildbach
** Summary changed:

- [i915] external screen stays dark after suspend/resume via lid
+ [i915] dualscreen: some screen stays dark after suspend/resume via lid

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

On Jaunty latest on a Dell Latitude X1 (i915GMS), with an externally
- connected Dell 2405 configured for extended desktop, the external screen
- stays dark after going through suspend/resume.
+ connected Dell 2405, the external (sometimes the internal) screen stays
+ dark after going through suspend/resume via lid close.
+
+ I can mostly recover from the situation by Alt-F1 to shell and
+ restarting GDM. However, things are very weird afterwards. Both gnome
+ panels sits directly on top of each other. Maximizing windows on the
+ external screen result in ~100 pixel wide windows, although the screen
+ has got 1920 pixels and the desktop background spreads to all of those.
+
+ - Suspending via FUSA or pm-suspend instead works as expected.
+ - Turning on Pipe-A forcing does not help with the problem.
+ - I have the same issue on Karmic and Non-KMS (either EXA or UXA), but *not*
on KMS.
+ - The bug shows up in either extended desktop or mirrored configuration, does
not matter.
+ - Kind of related: When I deactivate the external display with screen
resolution prefs and close the lid, the external display is briefly activated
and used for (extended?) Desktop - why?

This is a regression from Intrepid and Hardy.

[Bug 337351] Re: kubuntu 9.04 freezes all the time

2009-06-13 Thread James
Hi Every One,

Just to let you know that I have the same problem BUT without KDE. I use
Ubuntu 9.04 with GNOME so it is probably not a KDE problem :

MOUSE : works but no click
KEYBOARD : no action at all
SSH : can get to the system and TOP shows normal activities and no trace of any
error or warning in any of /var/log files

Turned of effect on/off but no effect (I thought it is GNOME and had
decided to install KDE but looks you all have the same problem on KDE
too !)

[Bug 386527] Re: Package install fail for linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic_2.6.28-11.42_amd64.deb

2009-06-13 Thread masked
I think I resolved this, and it may have been a space issue. (sorry,
I'm a linux newbie)

I originally set up with separate partitions for /boot, /tmp, /home, /usr, and
/var with 500MB left for / and everything else.
I noticed that I only have 50MB left after the 9.04 upgrade.
I deleted (what i hope were old) kernels from /lib/modules and redid the
apt-get dist-update.

Now everything says it's working, but when I initially log in, I get totally
black screens with a mouse pointer.
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace seems to fix this and give me my old X screen with dual
heads, but I don't know what the initial blackness means.
