[Bug 309160] Re: openssh public key auth broken if one has many keys but only in X11

2009-06-17 Thread Nick Burch
Try setting IdentitiesOnly yes in your ssh config file. It seems that
if you have lots of public keys, then by default on the newer ssh, the
key agent will offer them all. Setting IdentitiesOnly yes will make
ssh only go for the correct key, and not all of them!

(I had a similar problem, and this seemed to be the fix for me)

Here's the smdb.conf file;

#
# Sample configuration file for the Samba suite for Debian GNU/Linux.
#
#
# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
# smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
# here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options most of which
# are not shown in this example
#
# Some options that are often worth tuning have been included as
# commented-out examples in this file.
# - When such options are commented with ;, the proposed setting
#differs from the default Samba behaviour
# - When commented with #, the proposed setting is the default
#behaviour of Samba but the option is considered important
#enough to be mentioned here
#
# NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command
# testparm to check that you have not made any basic syntactic
# errors.
# A well-established practice is to name the original file
# smb.conf.master and create the real config file with
# testparm -s smb.conf.master smb.conf
# This minimizes the size of the really used smb.conf file
# which, according to the Samba Team, impacts performance
# However, use this with caution if your smb.conf file contains nested
# include statements. See Debian bug #483187 for a case
# where using a master file is not a good idea.

[Bug 227848] Re: boot order wrong for iscsi

2009-06-17 Thread Steve Langasek
The biggest blocker for getting this fixed in hardy isn't bug #44194,
but rather Debian bug #383073 and Debian bug #383123 that were fixed in
a post-hardy merge of sysvinit. Without that fix, there's no way to
trigger mounting iscsi devices after they've been made available, which
is the problem to be solved: the network interfaces are only
*guaranteed* to be up after S40networking, and nothing in hardy will
trigger mounting of non-network-filesystem devices after that point.

Fixing 44194 would let us cover all our bases for things such as iSCSI +
wpa_supplicant, but that's not actually an interesting use case to the
typical iSCSI user and not the problem being discussed here; fixing this
bug without 44194 would not be a regression since /usr on iSCSI doesn't
work today for anyone in hardy.

2009-06-17 Thread Mathias Gug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I haven't been able to reproduce your issue by disabling apparmor.
According to the apt log files:

Setting up mysql-server-5.0 (5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu10.2) ...

 * Stopping MySQL database server mysqld

   ...done.

 * Reloading AppArmor profiles ...

   ...done.

 * Starting MySQL database server mysqld

   ...fail!

invoke-rc.d: initscript mysql, action start failed.

It seems that there is an error while mysql is starting. Could you
please provide the following information:

 * content of /var/log/daemon.log related to mysql processes:

/var/log/daemon.log

 * apparmor audit messages related to mysqld:

/var/log/kern.log

password):

According to the kernel log:

It seems that there is an issue with mysqld apparmor profile. Could you
post the mysqld apparmor profile (/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld)?

things to work on. Screen savers haven't been necessary for years, and they
are often annoying. Either you set it to a really long timeout, or they pop
up in the middle of a TV show. I want the screen either on, or off. Save
some electricity and let your monitor go blank, sleep, or off. If you like a
certain screen saver that much, you can install the stuff needed to make it
work right. Linux is all about messing with things anyways.

are stuck with choosing just one, or letting any one pop up at random. All
because a square headed upstream maintainer has determined It Is Bad for
 Us.

Who cares about diverging from Gnome upstream in this? Don't we diverge
 from
upstream with the notifier, for example, which is far more important? Let's
kick the screen saver selector in the butt! Then we may push it upstream,
 and everything will be dandy.

I wonder if a solution would be thus:

Leave the screensaver config program alone, but create an additional
program that edits a particular .desktop file. A user simply sets their
screensaver to this special one, and uses this hypothetical tool to
configure the screensaver as they actually like. gnome-screensaver need
not know of this at all.

[Bug 388278] [NEW] [Jaunty] X segfaults with Xorg tainted trace

2009-06-17 Thread cactaur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Background: Running Ubuntu Jaunty. Compiz is disabled. Video card is a
ATI Radeon 9550.

What happens: X crashes at seemingly arbitrary times. It has gotten
pretty bad recently, sometimes happening once an hour or every two
hours. Next time it happens, I will try debugging it with gdb, but it
left an interesting trace in Syslog:

you confirm this?

[Bug 388282] [NEW] restore previous configuration option isn't applied immediately

Re: [Bug 22007] Re: no 'Settings' button in gnome-screensaver

2009-06-17 Thread Irios
But *WHY* do we have to run around in rings to do something that should be
simple, just not to miff inoperative upstream maintenance. Let's DIVERGE if
we want something good, while upstrem pushes something bad.

Really, the screensaver is not important. Fine, then, let's fix it too,
because this Ubuntu Papercuts program is for fixing unimportant things that
are badly done and are pebbles in the sandal on the road to a totally smooth
user experience. And it should be a very simple fix, it is not as we're
trying to reimplement the window manager (which has been done for the
Netbook Release).

Leave the screensaver config program alone, but create an additional
program that edits a particular .desktop file. A user simply sets their
screensaver to this special one, and uses this hypothetical tool to
configure the screensaver as they actually like. gnome-screensaver need
not know of this at all.

[Bug 388286] [NEW] Button-based location bar does not update after folder deleted

2009-06-17 Thread Umang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi!
When the location bar has buttons for a folder that has been deleted, the
buttons remain there, until a different folder is opened. They also remain
there even after I get Please check the spelling and try again. error.

To try:
Open Home Folder,
Make new directory Test
Open directory Test
Press 'Up'
Delete Test directory
Click Test button on location bar

Expected behaviour:
Ideally: Test should be removed from the bar as soon as it is deleted
Compromise: Test should be removed after error given when Test clicked on
the bar

Actual behaviour:
Test remains on the location bar and Please check the spelling and try
again. error is given every time Test is clicked.

Also, even though Test has not been opened, the Test button is
pressed along with the button of the current directory, even if the
current directory is two levels bellow (e.g. home and Test are both
pressed down if Test is clicked after going up to home (i.e. /home/)

[Bug 388285] [NEW] MIR for celt

2009-06-17 Thread Steve Kowalik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: celt

1. Availability: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/c/celt;
available for all supported architectures and hppa

2. Rationale:
* Build dependency of opal

3. Security:
* No CVE entries: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=celt
* No Secunia history: http://secunia.com/search/?search=celt
* No binaries running as root or suid/sgid ? And no daemons ?
* No Network activity
* Yes, it directly processes binary data (audio).
* No source code review.

4. Quality assurance:
* Package works OOTB.
* No debconfage.
* Debian bugs: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=celt ;
asking for 0.5, which Ubuntu has.
* Maintenance in Debian looks to be dead.
* Upstream is vigorous.
* Can't find upstream bug tracker: https://trac.xiph.org/search?q=celt
* Package doesn't deal with hardware.
* There looks to be a test suite in the upstream source, and it isn't
enabled to run during the build.

5. UI standards:
* User-visible strings are internationalized using standard gettext system
? Yes
* Package with translatable strings builds a PO template during package
build ? Doesn't seem to.
* End-user applications ship a desktop file ? No.

6. Standards compliance:
* FHS, Debian Policy compliance ? Yes.
* Packaging system (debhelper/cdbs/dbs) ? Bog-standard debehlper, no patch
system or oddities.

7. Dependencies:
* Build-Depends are libogg-dev, graphviz and doxygen which are all in main.

8. Maintenance:
* How much maintenance is this package likely to need ? Not much.
* Who is responsible for monitoring the quality of this package and fixing
its bugs ? Are they Ubuntu or Debian developers ?

9. Background information:
* The general purpose and context of the package should be clear from the
package's debian/control file. If it isn't then please explain.
* What do upstream call this software ? celt or celt-codec.

10. Internationalization:
* Are graphical applications translatable? Do they support gettext? No
graphical applications.

[Bug 274995] Re: MASTER storing ALSA mixer element values during shutdown hangs nondeterministically due to internal alsa-plugins pulse check

2009-06-17 Thread Jun Inoue
I'm reopening this bug because it reproduces with the latest release,
which seems to have the fix released on 2008-12-03. I'm running a
default install of Xubuntu 9.0.4 on a Sony Vaio VGN-G2.

Problem: the system hangs during reboot or halt if there is an active
wireless connection. During reboot, I get the following message

 * Stopping anac(h)ronistic cron anacron
acpid: exiting

nm-system-settings:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices removed (udi:
/or/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_1a_80_d6_06_5a)
nm-system-settings:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices removed (udi:
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_1f_3c_85_77_4a)
nm-dispatcher.action: Caught signal 15, shutting down...

The first line is sometimes different, but I can't seem to get the alternative
message at the moment.
The system makes no further progress. For halt, the message is just acpid:
exiting\n\n, or sometimes it's just blank.
The system is not completely frozen; the Enter key advances the cursor and the
console is blanked after inactivity (and lights up again in response to a
keystroke). Ctrl+Alt+Delete seems to be registering---it doesn't cause the
system to make progress but after repeatedly pressing the combination, I see
init: control-alt-delete respawning too fast, stopped.

The reproducibility is not 100% although it's fairly high, well over 50%
(subjectively; I didn't acutally count).

The problem goes away if I link /etc/init.d/NetworkManager from rc0.d
and rc6.d. I used the prefix K88 following Debian, but perhaps a
different number is more appropriate for Ubuntu.

[Bug 264290] Re: linux 2.6.27-2.3: coretemp reads 15C too hot, and keyboard is occasionally unresponsive

2009-06-17 Thread Ceejay
For the record, I have a similar problem, also with a DG965WH mobo like
OP's. In my case E4500 CPUs. Upgraded BIOS to latest Intel (1754).
Upgraded from Hardy to Jaunty - core temps as reported by sensors-applet
jumped up by about 15C: had previously been around 40C at idle, now 55C.
Reverting to Hardy kernel (with Jaunty) dropped the reported temps
again. I'm not aware of an unresponsive keyboard issue.

Johnny Bilek, please report this as a new bug instead of hijacking an
arbitrary, already fixed bug for this. According to the printers which
you are using the pdftops filter which is discussed here is not even
used.

Thanks for clearing that up... If i had known earlier , i would have opened a

Also to remind, the gnome-settings-daemon is running in my system,

I'll look into this again and file a separate bug report.

[Bug 388290] [NEW] Resume from suspend causes wireless card to stop working

2009-06-17 Thread Dionysius Almeida
Public bug reported:

I am running jaunty on a compaq presario v2000 laptop. The kernel which comes
with jaunty works fine with suspend/resume.
Since this laptop has an intel card, and because of issues with intel drivers
shipped with jaunty, I followed
this(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582) advise and updated xorg
server and installed 2.6.30 kernel
(http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/).

After the upgrade, since the restricted drivers were not available, and
ath5k is not very usable on my system, I compiled and installed the
latest madwifi-ng drivers and blacklisted ath5k and ath9k.

The only problem is that now, the wireless card is not detected upon
suspend/resume. I've verified it with both madwifi-ng and ath5k driver
which came with the kernel.

Here's the output from dmesg when madwifi-ng driver was in use:
Jun 16 23:00:46 wilson-laptop kernel: [11370.764915] ath_pci :07:00.0:
enabling device ( - 0002)
Jun 16 23:00:46 wilson-laptop kernel: [11370.764932] ath_pci :07:00.0: PCI
INT A - GSI 20 (level, low) - IRQ 20
Jun 16 23:00:46 wilson-laptop kernel: [11370.769426] MadWifi: unable to attach

Jun 16 23:00:46 wilson-laptop kernel: [11370.769450] ath_pci :07:00.0: PCI
INT A disabled

And this message was logged when i tried ath5k driver:
Jun 17 00:45:55 wilson-laptop kernel: [ 3078.683064] ath5k :07:00.0: PCI
INT A - GSI 20 (level, low) - IRQ 20

Jun 17 00:45:55 wilson-laptop kernel: [ 3078.693375] ath5k :07:00.0: PCI

Jun 17 00:45:55 wilson-laptop kernel: [ 3078.694452] ath5k: probe of
:07:00.0 failed with error -5

Kernel - linux-image-2.6.30-020630-generic

I know that this is not an issue with the current kernel supplied with jaunty,
but since 2.6.30 is being prepped for karmic, i thought
i would file this bug.

thanks,

[Bug 388289] [NEW] gtkfilechooser save/save as dialog not 100% navigable by keyboard

2009-06-17 Thread Jake Tolbert
Public bug reported:

When saving a file, the save/save as dialog does not offer any obvious
options to select the file format drop down, making navigation of this
dialog purely with the keyboard almost impossible.

Several other bugs are related to this keyboard navigation issue (Bug
#387957 and Bug #54950, for example), but here, I take issue with the
lack of usability in providing an (obvious) hotkey.

[Bug 379393] Re: add checkbox submission reference

2009-06-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Abel writes:

Finally, Launchpad is able to link bugs and hardware profiles via the LP
webservice API.

If bug is a launchpadlib object representing a bug, and if hwsubmission
is the launchpadlib representation of a hardware report in Launchpad,
call

bug.linkHWSubmission(hwsubmission)

to link the bag und the hardware report.

You can create the hwsubmission object by calling

hwsubmission =
lp.load('https://api.edge.launchpad.net/beta/+hwdb/+submission/%s' %
submission_key)

where submission_key is the unique ID provided by checkbox in the field
field.submission_key when it uploads the hardware report via
https://launchpad.net/+hwdb/+submit .

So, apport can now create these links between bugs and and hardware
reports -- if it knows the submission_key.

IIRC the problem remains that checkbox does not store at present
submission_key on the user's machine.

[Bug 388291] [NEW] Computer hangs during reboot/halt

2009-06-17 Thread Jun Inoue
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

This bug is probably related to #274995 (which was closed on
2008-12-03), but I'm opening a new one following Michael Rooney's kind
advice.

I'm running a default install of Xubuntu 9.0.4 on a Sony Vaio VGN-G2.

Problem: the system hangs during reboot or halt if there is an active
wireless connection. During reboot, I get the following message

 * Stopping anac(h)ronistic cron anacron
acpid: exiting

nm-system-settings:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices removed (udi:

The problem seems to go away if I link /etc/init.d/NetworkManager from
rc0.d and rc6.d. (But please bare in mind this is a nondeterministic
bug.) I used the prefix K88 immitating Debian, but perhaps a different
number is more appropriate for Ubuntu.

[Bug 388296] [NEW] nvidia-settings hangs for some time after suspend

2009-06-17 Thread Ketil Malde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

I have a Dell D620 laptop with a nvidia card that I bring with me
between work and home. After resuming from suspend at work, I typically
run nvidia-settings to switch to my external screen, but nvidia-settings
tends to hang for a long time before opening its window. Minor
annoyance, as it will usually come around.

Today I ran an strace, and I think this identifies the culprit. It ends
like this:

stat64(/home/ketil/.config, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0
stat64(/home/ketil/.local, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0
stat64(/home/ketil/.selected_editor, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=74, ...})
= 0
stat64(/home/ketil/#.gnus.el#, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2354, ...}) = 0
stat64(/home/ketil/gal.csv.gz, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=5367671, ...})
= 0
stat64(/home/ketil/.gcjwebplugin, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=4096, ...})
= 0
stat64(/home/ketil/_newsrc.eld, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=45174, ...}) = 0
stat64(/home/ketil/bin, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0
stat64(/home/ketil/data, ^C unfinished ...

Now, data is an sshfs mount, which obviously got broken when I
suspended the machine, and stat64 apparently hangs non-interruptedly for
a long time when a mount has gone astray. So, easily fixed by mounting
stuff in a subdirectory (i.e. ~/mnt/data) instead, but still, two
questions:

1. Does the kernel really need to wait this long for stat'ing a broken network
mount? Couldn't it somehow be detected?
2. Does nvidia-settings *really* need to stat each and every file in my home
directory?

(habitually). When I do this many times, sometimes evince crashes.

This happens only a few times a month (sometimes never). I have not been
able to open from terminal and see if there is any error. I cannot
reproduce this bug at the moment.

Though it happens very very rarely, it is very irritating. (I don't
remember whether all the other evince windows closed or not, I think
they did)

What should I do and how do I go about giving more information on this
bug?

Evince : 2.24.1-0ubuntu1
Ubuntu : 8.10 (Intrepid)

I found duplicate issues reported in 2005/06, but those are most
probably different as fixes seem to be released for them.

In Croatian we translated Home folder as Personal folder. 'Home
anything' just sounds plain stupid when translated in Croatian.

This is a not a problem with the linux-image package

Rather this is a problem with initramfs-tools

Re: [Bug 334446] Re: Remove gnome-pilot from the default ubuntu install

2009-06-17 Thread Martin Pitt
Matt Davey [2009-06-15 14:48 -]:
If you want to be allow users to install gnome-pilot and sync with
evolution, then Evolution needs to be linked against gnome-pilot.

This will stay. If someone installs gnome-pilot, this should continue
to work.

To be honest, I didn't follow the arguments for removal. They
 seemed to come down to:
 [...]

One major problem also is that there doesn't seem to be any Ubuntu
developer with the hardware and willingness to maintain the package,
thus it was effectively unmaintained and has been broken for quite a
while.

I dont think Luke's PPA has 0090_fix_sw_mute_desync.patch in it yet. The
Karmic package from the Ubuntu repositories should though and i am still
getting the problem with that.

[Bug 311451] Re: Please merge hdparm 9.12-2 (main) from Debian unstable

2009-06-17 Thread Martin Pitt
We don't care about pre-hardy changes because they'd be end-of-life or
we don't care because people have to upgrade releases incrementally and
Karmic is 1 upgrade from Fiesty?

More generally, we don't support upgrades which skip releases, except
for LTS - LTS. Thus, in order to upgrade from gutsy to anything, you
first _must_ upgrade to karmic. Thus it is sufficient to only keep
transition code until the next LTS.

As for the debhelper change, that went in because dh_installudev was
modified in Ubuntu to install into /usr/lib/rules.d.

Ah, indeed, I remember; sorry for the noise. So, while udev itself in
Debian is up to date now, dh_installudev still does the wrong thing in
Debian :-(

[Bug 388032] Re: [KMS] no display with KMS enabled (intel)

2009-06-17 Thread Robert Hooker
Nowhere on the wiki does it say to pass i915.modeset=1 to grub to use it
on jaunty. Perhaps someone might have edited it for a short time to add
that but it would have been quickly removed because it is incorrect. I
don't see it being on there from a quick glance at the page history but
I might have missed something..

Re: [Bug 359109] Re: kernel 2.6.28 freeze

2009-06-17 Thread shadow
sorry being about being so late.

here is the results.

firstly 2.6.24 was running ok but the problem was resulted from 2.6.28
kernel. i have tried several things and included your solutions disabling
the splash screen and could not find out meaningful solution.

i was reported 2.6.24 was running ok except for intel graphic card. the main
reason for this i think lack of the memory since it was only 512MB ram and
32 mb graphic card. i thought that the same reason can cause the 2.6.28
kernel freezes, then i decided to sell my laptop. (which i did). right now i
have a dual -core 2GB ram 512 MB graphic card laptop and i is running
perfectly even with kde 3D desktop effects (not compiz, i did not tried).

as a result the freezing problem could be casued from lack of memory, so you
can close the thread now.

thanks for your nice help and support.
