[Bug 423562] [NEW] Windows client strange behavour on password protected shares

2009-09-03 Thread PryGuy
Public bug reported:

Good day to you all!
I have found a strange Windows behavour when I try to access password protected
Samba shares. Not sure who's guilty, but I fill the bug anyway. On Windows
client, if I:
1. Login, open shares list on Server, click on a password protected share, get
a login/password prompt. Enter it and I'm in.
2. Login, open shares list on Server, enter a public share, open (create,
delete, etc.) a file there, return to shares list, click on a password
protected share, get a login/password prompt. Enter it and I'm in.
3. Login, open shares list on Server, enter a public share BUT DO NOT TOUCH
ANYTHING THERE, return to shares list, click on a password protected share, get
a login/password prompt. Enter it and IT DOES NOT LET ME IN!!!

If I return to a shares list after that, go to a public share, do
something there and then try to enter a password protected share - it
works fine!

Here's an extract from my config:

[global]
...
   create mask = 0664
   directory mask = 0775
   writable = yes
   locking = no
   guest ok = yes

[Bug 423570] [NEW] tcpdump takes an unusually long time to display packets (Jaunty)

2009-09-03 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tcpdump

tcpdump takes an unusually long time to display packets in Ubuntu Jaunty
(3.9.8-4ubuntu2), whereas it works find under my Ubuntu Intrepid (3.9.8-4)
setup; packets are shown instantly.
Wireshark displays packets instantly in both cases.
This is true of all and -i any interfaces I test.

The packet times are correct, but it can take between 5 and 10 seconds
for packets to be shown, regardless of packet type, source, destination
or interface. CPU utilisation does not increase during this time.

The following is a short excerpt running on the any interface with the
filter ip proto \\icmp. I have used pings for simplicity here.
Filtering the packets does not speed up the display. The network nor
the computer are busy while testing.

PING 192.168.0.3 (192.168.0.3) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.0.3: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=10.4 ms

08:38:40.450249 IP 192.168.0.12 192.168.0.3: ICMP echo request, id 62810, seq
1, length 64
08:38:40.450273 IP 192.168.0.12 192.168.0.3: ICMP echo request, id 62810, seq
1, length 64
08:38:40.452587 IP 192.168.0.3 192.168.0.12: ICMP echo reply, id 62810, seq
1, length 64

As you can see, the ICMP_ECHO_REQUEST is sent twice for each ping. I'm not
sure if this is normal, or even related.
Pinging 127.0.0.1 only sends the request once before receiving the reply, but
tcpdump still takes its time to show the captured packets.

This certainly makes tcpdump difficult to use for real-time capture.

[Bug 423572] [NEW] Character style not working in bibliography

2009-09-03 Thread Steven Kreuvf Koenig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Version: 1:3.0.1-9ubuntu3

How to reproduce:
1. Create a new text document in Writer.
2. Add some references into the document.
3. Add a bibliography to the document.
4. Go to the Entries tab.
5. In Structure select Au.
6. Select the character style Emphasis (should make text appear in italics).
7. Hit the OK button.

The author should appear in italics now, but it doesn't, stays the same
as before. Going back to the Entries tab and selecting Au under
Structure shows that there is no character style. I tried removing the
structure and re-adding things with character style already selected,
but it didn't work as well.

Probably I misunderstand something, but this appears like a bug to me.
If it's no bug, then please tell me how to make those character styles
work, although I Google didn't give me any relevant answers when
searching for open office writer bibliography character style.

I scrubbed my settings and set up as a new user this morning. Upon doing
so, I found that the workplace switcher applet is stuck at 0 rows and 0
columns. The up/down buttons on each number are grayed out, and if you enter
in a number, when focus leaves the combo box, the number is set back to 0.

 To reproduce:
 1) Update to latest (4:00-ish am CDT) packages.
 2) Set up a new, empty user directory
 3) Log in as the user
 4) Right click on the workplace switcher and select Properties
 5) Enjoy your newfound frustration.

This may require compiz, but I think it happens with metacity too. Right

@alistair

I think it depends on whether myth protocol has changed or not. I have a
minimyth frontend which ignores a change in myth protocol and attempts
to connect anyway. Other implementations will vary and will likely not
enable you to connect if there is a mismatch in the protocol.

@all
I have now been running for over a week with --nohousekeeper switch added to
mythbackend. I have not had one instance of it crashing in this manner (kiss of
death!!!) This is unheard of for my setup over the last couple of months or so.

[Bug 423415] Re: Ati driver issues when logging into desktop

Bryce.

I have installed the newer Kubuntu and the ati driver is working with
it. However the display is 2/3's of an inch left and a 1/3 of an inch
down.

version number is 1.6.29.99+git20090825.fc74e119-0

I'm assuming therefore that this might be due to a usplash/xsplash/metacity...
all fighting for the same display, of course I could be horrifically wrong.

Re: [Bug 423412] [NEW] karmic alpha: grub2 core.img with mdraid lvm too big to embed

Am Mittwoch, den 02.09.2009, 20:53 + schrieb Roland Dreier:

 Binary package hint: grub2

I tried to install a system with today's Karmic amd64 alternate CD, and
with / on LVM on RAID. This setup used to work with older Karmic alphas
(and presumably older grub2), but with the latest grub2, the core.img
ends up being 33000 bytes, which is just a bit more than the 31744 (=
62*512) bytes of space available for embedding. So grub-install fails
 and the system is unbootable.

The core.img that is built seems pretty minimal -- the raid, mdraid and
lvm added in, which are all necessary AFAIK.

Not sure what the right way to handle this is -- LVM on RAID seems
pretty mainstream, and the code just needs to be shrunk %10 for
core.img to fit, so fixing this would be great if possible. On the
other hand, being so close to the limit seems pretty fragile

Which RAID? RAID 5 or RAID 6?
And wich filesystem?
Reiser3 is the biggest filesystem in GRUB 2.
That was always a problem with a too big core.img
ext3/ext4 should work.

[Bug 423577] [NEW] Horrible sound at session start

2009-09-03 Thread Lilian ROBERT
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a PC that has a problem since many ubuntu versions.

Each time I open my session, an horrible sound plays on speakers. Sounds
like the old modems but without fluctuation during 3-4 seconds. Then, it
stops and the ubuntu melody plays normally.

This is very annoying because it is an aggressive sound, especially when
I forget to put down the volume of my speakers before powering up my
computer.

2009/9/3 kernel-janitor le...@canonical.com

 Hi Tadas,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
 available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
 Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p linux 296980

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
 results.

 Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 403549] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV immediately after start up

2009-09-03 Thread Ulf Rompe
I was experiencing this bug on every login. It seems I got rid of it by
manually cleaning up my gconf database. Unfortunately I did loads of
changes at once, so I can't say which one was the champion. What I did
was removing old keys that were not assosiated with a schema anymore,
including (but not limited to) /apps/nautilus/. I also reset several
entries to their default values. After next login, to my surprise
nautilus didn't crash anymore.

Maybe somebody suffering from this bug wants to do some gconf cleanup in
smaller steps to be able to tell which key or value was the bad guy.

If you can't reproduce the issue under a live cd, I'm going to have
you reinstall ubuntu (to a different partition, or however you want to
do it), and then install a different kernel. I would expect that to
'solve' the issue right there; that will allow us to determine if the
issue is solved under karmic, and to eventually work out exactly which
changes caused the issue.

Re: [Bug 423379] Re: Random Lockups in Ubuntu Jaunty

2009-09-03 Thread Carey Underwood
On the second machine, run
 netcat -l -u -p 6000

On the first machine, run
 modprobe netconsole netconsole=@/eth0,6...@192.168.1.101/
, substituting the second machine's ip address in for 192.168.1.102.

Then hit alt-sysrq-s, and you should see a statement about syncing the
disks on the second machine. If you see that message (or any other
messages), you can now try to trigger a crash, and attach any
information that shows up.

[Bug 419126] Re: X fails to start up after mesa+git update - gdm loops after logging in

2009-09-03 Thread Kazade
Perhaps then the bug wasn't really fixed by the update... just the
missing r600_dri.so was disabling DRI and so not hitting the bug at all
(same as disabling DRI in xorg.conf avoids the issue).

[Bug 423597] [NEW] e2fsck freeze if disk isn't checked a long time

2009-09-03 Thread Aapo Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: e2fsprogs

I'm using ubuntu 9.04 (64bit). And I have several hard drives.

One hard drive is routinely checked during boot, but computer freezes.
Caps/NumLock/Scroll lock leds blinked.
I tried it four times and every time it freezed, but not every time leds were
blinking.

Then I skip fsck with ESC, umount this disk and manually start fsck. It freezed.
I tried this two times.

Then I boot computer on ubuntu 8.04.3 (32bit) and it runs routinely
check during boot and successfully pass it. I then run fsck manually
too:

sudo fsck /dev/sdc2
fsck 1.40.8 (13-Mar-2008)
e2fsck 1.40.8 (13-Mar-2008)
/dev/sdc2: clean, 7765/59817984 files, 209456512/239258053 blocks

I booted to 9.04 and now I can manually run fsck without freeze:
sudo fsck /dev/sdc2
fsck 1.41.4 (27-Jan-2009)
e2fsck 1.41.4 (27-Jan-2009)
/dev/sdc2: clean, 7765/59817984 files, 209456512/239258053 blocks

Now I can't reproduce this bug, but maybe next time when routinely check
is triggered.

[Bug 423595] [NEW] Kaffeine application does not fetch all channels in DVB-C/DVB-T and maybe DVB-S if channels are removed after scanning. After reboot you can scan all channels again.

2009-09-03 Thread Timo Kemppaala
Public bug reported:

I tried same method (first scan all channels) then remove certain
channels. After i need that removed channel back. I use scan again, but
only 4-6 channels are found. After reboot i can fetch all channels
again. Strange... :)

New user can fetch all channels again. But if you remove channels after
scanning you cant scan all channels again. Only after reboot. This
happens with internal and external devices... I have tried A-link (2
devices with USB) and Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C PCI... Same deal with
every device. This is not major problem, but you have to boot computer
to start full scan again :)

Ubuntu im using Jaunty Jackalope (9.04) Gnome (It has better windows-
network system than KDE, But KDE is better looking one) :)

resolution i expect to see:

You can scan again and again... even when removing channels :)

[Bug 423596] [NEW] Needs an Ubuntu UNR docs package

2009-09-03 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi

I think we need a specialized ubuntu-unr-docs package like the xubuntu,
kubuntu etc. ones since UNR usage and choice of apps differs slightly
from the regular Ubuntu desktop. (e.g. brasero isn't present, apps are
launched differently etc.).

Cheers,

[Bug 423593] [NEW] soundvideo and system categories icons are black and white

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: humanity-icon-theme

Hi

With humanity icon theme in the UNR daily, the two icons for the
soundvideo and system categories are black and white and are the only
black and white categories icons which looks weird.

I think they should be colorful like the other ones, but this might be
caused by missing icons.
