With my basic Linux knowledge it wasnt easy to find this solution. First i was thinking it was just me doing something wrong. i am running 9.04 with 2.6.31 A collegue saw it on my netbook and he installed ubuntu 9.1 NBR. He also had problems mounting his NAS. Windows had no problems to mount it. There look to be (at least) two issues here: 1) double base64'd data 2) authentication failure w/ certain user data strings #1 was fixed in the euca2ools, afaict. #2 no longer manifests with any of the examples listed in this thread. I've attached a snippet of /var/log/installer/syslog from a system just after PXE installation attempted to make a CC of it via the eucalyptus-udeb. You'll notice that it's Setting up version 1.6~bzr931-0ubuntu7 of eucalyptus-cc. It then runs ssh-keygen via an su to the eucalyptus user, and promptly complains about there being no upstart to talk to. The reason I take interest in this is that it appears that part of my problem is the failure of code in this postinst to run. For example, I don't even have an /etc/eucalyptus/eucalyptus-cc.conf until after my purge/reinstall of eucalyptus-cc. I also don't seem to have the VNET_MODE or VNET_PUBLICIPS settings, for some reason. The version with the problem is Lucid Lynx. The installation was a clean install of Karmic, which was upgraded by changing all the software sources to Lucid (using details posted on the Ubuntu forums). The most recent update/upgrade was yesterday afternoon (UK time) via the Main Server. Every time I've run you command it's been done with Lucid Lynx running. I doubt this function is the problem.
And if you would have looked a few lines below where this function gets
actually called it would give you at least a hint how you can find out
for which sector number that function fails.
To get the disk dprintfs shown in rescue mode the following should work,
but it seems like the pager only works in mormal mode.
sudo -s
printf 'set pager=1\nset debug=disk' /boot/grub/rescue.cfg
In /usr/sbin/grub-install change this line
$grub_mkimage --output=${grubdir}/core.img
--prefix=${prefix_drive}${relative_grubdir} $modules || exit 1
to this
$grub_mkimage --config=${grubdir}/rescue.cfg --output=${grubdir}/core.img
--prefix=${prefix_drive}${relative_grubdir} $modules || exit 1
and then just run it like usual.
Though because you're already familiar with compiling and modifying it
you could also replace the grub_dprintf with normal grub_printfs.

I'm afraid I have to disagree that this issue is due to a failed upgrade. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=820#post820 I tried a clean install of devede where all the dependencies had to be fetched from official repositories and I can reproduce this issue exactly. I cannot simply remove the packages as mentioned above without removing the applications I want to use, and I cannot install libavcodec52 first without it being uninstalled by dvd and replaced by the extra-52 and unstripped-52 versions. [Bug 484058] [NEW] Ubuntu-Nautilus does not support German digital identification card framework
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus In november 2010 Germany's physical identification card will be enhanced with digital functionalities. This new Internet ID card is called Elektronischer Personalausweis (ePA). It will work as digital Internet ID card with digital adress verification, log-in verification and will have age verification. Moreover it will contain personal digital signature. Siemens IT Solutions and Services works now on implementing the software framework into a Windows system and it won't be Open Source. The German Federal Agency for Information technology security (BSI) defined a software framework called eCard-API-Framework (BSI TR-03112). There is no comparable project for Linux systems. This should be changed, because an Internet based ID card is the killer application for the next years. Moreover, it is necessary that this IT infrastructure computer code gets peer review by the public.
