[Bug 528934] [NEW] IPv6 shouldn’t be dis abled by default

2010-02-27 Thread Jeremy Visser
Public bug reported:

libvirt by default disables IPv6 as a result of this patch:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=355689action=diff

This is incorrect behaviour. IPv6 should never be disabled by default,
and the need for IPv6–enabled software grows greater every day.

Currently, libvirt both sets net.ipv6.conf.virbrX.disable_ipv6=1, and
net.ipv6.conf.virbrX.accept_ra=0. The reason why IPv6 was disabled by
Red Hat was to stop the virbrX interface from accidentally receiving
Router Advertisements from virtual machines running on the host. The
solution accept_ra=0 could have been sufficient to fix this, but due to
reasons unknown (likely a fear and non-understanding of IPv6), IPv6 was
instead disabled altogether, which breaks IPv6 functionality.

This can be fixed by only setting accept_ra=0, while not touching
disable_ipv6. (If a sysadmin still wants IPv6 disabled, they can do so
on the kernel command line, or set net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1.)

It is important that this is fixed, because Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is
supported until 2015 — three years after the predicted exhaustion of the
RIR IPv4 pool (and four years after the exhaustion of the IANA pool).

[Bug 528936] [NEW] package postfix 2.6.5-3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-02-27 Thread MarkM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

This response occurs now after all updates. Originally started after
SYNAPTIC requested some updates. Included in these was some new
additions ie including Google Chrome something about mailx. I had
already installed Google Chrome beta from the Google website. I just
left everything checked and assumed that all dependencies and/or
duplications would sort themselves out. Additionally, installing apps
from the Ubuntu Software Centre appears to fail, however when you check
the apps, they appear to be installed. When installing from the USC,
entering authentication details (ie password)appears to be ignored
pressing the Esc button clears this so I am uncertain then whether all
dependencies have been met. I am relatively inexperienced in these
matters.

[Bug 527648] Re: Running instances can't be contacted from CLC in CLC+Walrus / CC+SC / NC topology

2010-02-27 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Aha, I think I understand why ...

During the CLC install, I think the user is prompted for eucalyptus
/cloud-address (if it exists), and if the user leaves it blank (and none
is detected on the network), then the installer suggests installing this
machine as the CLC. Hence, eucalyptus/cloud-address remains blank. So
I just think we need to determine that address in a different manner.
I'll take another look.

[Bug 527648] Re: Running instances can't be contacted from CLC in CLC+Walrus / CC+SC / NC topology

2010-02-27 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Attaching /var/log/installer/syslog from my CC/SC install.

Search this file for 10.1.1.71 (the address of the CLC) and you'll see
that eucalyptus/cloud-address is set to 10.1.1.71:8773, at least for a
bit.

Maybe it's set correctly in the installer environment but that doesn't
get propagated to the install chroot. Needs a little more
investigation.

[Bug 529056] [NEW] instances disk size needs to be bigger than filesystem size

2010-02-27 Thread Boris Devouge
Public bug reported:

This bug does not present a good initial experience to UEC new commers:

- When running the first instance, downloading the default Ubuntu 9.10
image from the Image Proxy, and try to simply launch it with all default
settings, fails to run the instance.

It seems the disk reservation from the instance _needs_ to be superior to the
EMI fs size.
So when a emi has a fs of 2 gb, we should make a reservation for 3 gb for the
instance to run, as a 2gb reservation will fail.

[Bug 520857] Re: package samba-common 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-02-27 Thread Thierry Carrez
Configuration file handling is quite complex. Basically if the user
removes a configuration file, the package shouldn't reinstall it by
itself... That's why the package only suggests appropriate action.

[Bug 529008] Re: Should emulate /proc/cpuinfo

2010-02-27 Thread Anthony Liguori
I don't know what is meant by should emulate /proc/cpuinfo. Can you
please be more specific?

NB, the default CPU that is exposed is a generic one which allows for
maximum portability with respect to live migration. You can use the
'-cpu host' option to expose the underlying host CPU although that
decreases migration portability.

[Bug 526823] Re: error al actualizar

2010-02-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 526318] Re: mysql-client-5.0 and libmysqlclient15off are marked as updates but don't download

2010-02-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
It seems like the downloaded deb is corrupted. This could be a filesystem issue
or an aborted download. Please perform the following in a terminal:
$ sudo touch /forcefsck
$ sudo reboot
... wait while computer reboots, then login. then open a terminal and run these:
$ sudo apt-get clean

Now run update manager as normal. If this still doesn't work, you might
want to try the official archive if you are using a mirror.

[Bug 529290] [NEW] logrotate script needs to be updated for Upstart conversion

2010-02-27 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

/etc/logrotate.d/samba produces error output, because the smbd stanza
calls 'invoke-rc.d --quiet samba reload /dev/null' in a postrotate
stanza (no stderr redirection, nor should there be). This should be
updated to use Upstart's facilities. I suspect the same may go for the
nmbd stanza, which currently calls '[ ! -f /var/run/samba/nmbd.pid ] ||
kill -HUP `cat /var/run/samba/nmbd.pid`'.

[Bug 529349] [NEW] postfix-to-mailman.py is broken when postfix recipient_delimiter=-

2010-02-27 Thread butter71
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mailman

mailman 2.1.12
postfix 2.6.5
ubuntu 9.10/karmic

setup according to the instructions in postfix-to-mailman.py.

when postfix recipient_delimiter=-, the 'user' gets passed to postfix-
to-mailman.py with the trailing -xxx removed. mail to list-owner or
list-subscribe, etc gets passed as list. this breaks anything but
mail to the list.

i patched postfix master.cf to send the entire recipient address and
postfix-to-mailman to manually extract the username.

patch attached.

For the record, someone has prepared a newer version of AllTray (though
it would appear to have not made it into Debian yet) where the patches
(at least all of them that I and Ignace, the person who is attempting to
adopt the AllTray package in Debian, are aware of) have been
incorporated into the upstream AllTray distribution. A new release of
AllTray on this branch has been issued, and that should be used.

A newer version? You mean one of the 0.7.[1-4]dev versions? Those appear to be
alpha releases of a complete rewrite, and hence not fit for uploading to
 Ubuntu
 just yet.

No, a new release from the old-maintenance branch, which (to my
knowledge) has incorporated the fixes from Ubuntu (AFAIK, there were no
Debian-specific fixes). My apologies if I was unclear in specifying
that the release I was talking about came from the same branch as that
which is already in Debian.

The dev releases are not quite alpha, but they are not releases that I
would recommend be in Debian or Ubuntu unless they were packaged under a
different name that was obviously known to be unstable. I'm not ready
for that until the last feature is implemented, and even then, there
will be a period of testing before I call it 0.8.0 and release it and
welcome distributors to package it.

You may want to check the branches on LP:

  https://edge.launchpad.net/alltray

Which include the old-maintenance branch and its recent release, 0.71a,
which is a bug fix release of 0.70.

If there are any patches which remain to be applied upstream, I would
like to be made aware of them so that they can be incorporated.

The patches are in the debian/patches folder of the extracted 0.69-1ubuntu4
source package. I have attached these patches for reference. Their extensions
are dpatch, but they can be applied using `patch -p1 -ipatchname` like any
other -p1 patch. As mentioned before, the patch headers contain bug links and
descriptions as to what they do. It is quite possible to get these patches to
apply to 0.70, but I'm not sure it would be as simple for one of the releases
 post-rewrite.

As far as I am aware, 0.71a (again, not 0.7.{1,2,3,4}-dev, which is
indeed a re-write; 0.71a is a continuation of the 0.70 line)
incorporates all the fixes that were present in ubuntu. This is why I
am confused at the sync request here, it doesn't make sense. Debian bug
566880 is, as I understand it, going to be resolved with an upload of
AllTray 0.71a, which should _then_ be brought to Ubuntu (though if it
comes to Ubuntu directly, that would also be fine---0.71a is a stable
release with bug fixes from 0.70).

In short (and this is just my 2¢ as the author of new AllTray and
maintainer of the old AllTray source code), I don't think 0.70-1 should
be imported from Debian. 0.71a should be available in Debian soon, and
I suspect that will result in a package 0.71a-1, which would be suitable
for inclusion in Ubuntu (as the 0.69 patches that I recall being in
ubuntu had to be adopted and backported from the old-maintenance bzr
tree in the first place, like the GTK tooltip/balloon fix).

Thanks,
Mike

hello chow,

AFAIK this package is actively maintained in debian (i.e the debian

debian packaging (only in the case of upstream versions its otherwise)
and packaging improvements are left to the debian maintainer to decide
and we can only collaborate

Please correct me if i am wrong

the hardware tab so the driver seems to still be working.

Re: [Bug 528675] Re: Sync alltray 0.70-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-02-27 Thread Chow Loong Jin
On Saturday 27,February,2010 03:57 PM, Michael B. Trausch wrote:
 [...]

It could probably enter Debian Experimental, but not Debian Unstable, Testing or
Ubuntu, but this is to be handled by the new alltray package maintainer in
Debian.

You may want to check the branches on LP:

  https://edge.launchpad.net/alltray

Which include the old-maintenance branch and its recent release, 0.71a,
which is a bug fix release of 0.70.

I am sorry, but I was looking at https://edge.launchpad.net/alltray/+download
and could not find it, so I assumed that 0.70 was the latest prior to the
rewrite. Is that tarball an automatically generated tarball of a tag or
something? I think you should make it available at the aforementioned downloads
page as it is confusing and not discoverable to have your tarballs all over the
place.

 [...]

As I have just mentioned, there was quite a bit of confusion as to what
constitutes a new release from the old-maintenance branch, considering the
tarballs aren't available from your main downloads page.

Yes, that's right. 0.71a should be synced from Debian once it gets ready,
assuming all our Ubuntu-specific patches so far can be dropped (if they have all
been applied upstream, for example) then.

I will mark this sync request as invalid then. Please make a new one when the
time comes (or poke me either via IRC or email and I will look into it).

this was mentioned to me in a conversation about this bug.
(After testing, this seems to be a problem with gtk+-2.0 pixmap engine. Any
theme using the pixmap engine crashes with fspot in the same manner.)

a workaround for now was changing themes, that let me get f-stop working.

[Bug 519986] Re: package sun-java6-bin 6-16-0ubuntu1.9.04 failed to install/upgrade/uninstall

2010-02-27 Thread David Lelièvre
The same problem appears with sun-java5. There's a probleme with this file
that's empty : /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/java
So commands for update-alternatives doesn't give a good result :

$ update-alternatives --list java
update-alternatives: erreur ou fin de fichier lors de la lecture de
 /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/java pour update_mode ()

The command :
$ whereis java
java: /usr/bin/java /etc/java /usr/share/java /usr/share/man/man1/java.1.gz

$ ls -l /usr/bin/java
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2010-01-22 18:50 /usr/bin/java -
/etc/alternatives/java

$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/java
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 40 2010-01-22 18:50 /etc/alternatives/java -
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java

I've looked to Hardy's file /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/java which is
not empty at all...

Gone make a try to fill the Jaunty's file...

Well spotted, Gabor. Yes please, go ahead and disable umusicstore :)

Since it is a template we most probably won't use again, I'd also
recommend moving it out of the way as per http://tinyurl.com/yjao26f.

This will fix the bug, but I've also submitted a merge proposal to the
upstream package, so that Launchpad does not get fed with the
'umusicstore' template again:

[Bug 348332] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2010-02-27 Thread Michael Turner
I have used nVidia cards for years while having a friend who kept
telling me ATi cards were ¨better¨. When I saw the Radeon HD5770 at a
very good price I succumbed and bought one. Yes it IS fine for Windows
but I have lost my 3D, xinerama and other desktop effects and can only
run using my 1280 x 1024 LCD, whereas in Widows (and linux when I had an
nVidia card, I used a 1680x1250 and the 1280x1024 side by side. I am
about to retire and would like to cut down on the cost of computing by
moving over to linux full time instead of side-by-side with Windows.

I will NEVER buy another ATi card and am seriously thinking about
switching away from AMD, which I have used since the year dot. I think
I will give the ATi card to my son who won;t use linux (lol), re-install
my nVidia card and lose a few FPS in X-plane.

I know this is not a technical post but I am so ANGRY!

Apologies, guys!

[Bug 528897] [NEW] main track list/view is very obtrusive when files are being added/removed

2010-02-27 Thread steubens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

if you add a whole bunch of songs at once, or remove a volume with a lot
of songs on it while rhythmbox is open; and you have the top All x
artists selected in the multicolumn view; the software only removes and
updates the main list at a rate of a song or 2 per second (and uses 100%
cpu), if you pick any one of the artists in the column view while its
doing this (as such, viewing all from one artist, or album), it will do
100s a second due to the fact that it will not update the list for that
selection until it changes, this applies to all column views

secondly, in an attempt to stay on top of this you might pick the first
artist on the list; and until it is removed with the volume it will be
fast, but the moment it is it will return to the All x y label in the
multicolumn view; so you have to babysit it if you don't want it to use
100% cpu while it removes songs

[Bug 528895] [NEW] git-core should depend on man-db

2010-02-27 Thread Alex Dehnert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: git-core

git help requires /usr/bin/man to exist in order to display help, but

[Bug 528900] [NEW] Karmic freezes after boot - Intel video card 82945G/GZ

2010-02-27 Thread Arvind
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This bug appears to have been reported under #492271.

I upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty. Upgrade was smooth, but immediately
after restart Karmic froze after login in about a minute. Serach on
forum yielded following workarounds which helped to restore normalcy,
but with visual effects = None.

(1) Change /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager file to replace
compiz_name=compiz.real to compiz_name=metacity
(2) Before Karmic could freeze, in the 30 seconds that one gets after boot,
change System-Preferences-Appearance-Visual Effects = None.

Both changes seem to be needed to keep desktop working without visual
effects.

This bug appears to have been reported under #492271

[Bug 445317] Re: netbook-launcher crashed with SIGSEGV in cogl_get_features()

2010-02-27 Thread Jason Haar
I can add me too. I am trying to squeeze a bit more life out of my
sons old PC - it has a nvidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 with a Viewsonic PS17
CRT monitor. When I installed UNR it correctly installed the proprietary
nvidia drivers, but it couldn't autodetect the old monitor and it came
up in 300-somethingx400something resolution - horrible - but everything
worked. Anyway, after much fiddling I got it to hardwired to 1024x768
and 16K colours and thought it'd be alright. However, upon first logging
in I got the orange background but no window manager. I Alt-F2 xterm and
could see netbook-launcher taking 90% CPU and dmesg shows all these
errors

[Bug 526897] Re: Alfter an installation of Lucid pre-Alpha3 in Spanish, firefox is completely in English

2010-02-27 Thread David Planella
This seems to be indeed a problem with the Spanish Firefox language
packs. I could also confirm it.

I've done two quick tests:

* Catalan: on the Lucid desktop I use daily FF translations are fine. Also when
testing a new installation with network (Catalan language packs are not in the
ISO and need to be downloaded).
* German: on a LiveCD, where the German language packs are in the ISO, just as
in Spanish, Firefox German translations are loaded just fine.

The Firefox translations seem to be installed, the only thing I'm not
sure about is the es-ES naming (I seem to remember we had a similar
problem last release):
