Hi,

I encounter the problem when the guest OS is Windows 7, however with a
Windows XP guest the bug does not occur. Anyway this is a regression
from Karmic.

Re: [Bug 513273] Re: kvm with -vga std is broken since karmic

2010-04-03 Thread Dustin Kirkland
On Fri, Apr 2, 2010 at 10:20 PM, Steve Langasek
steve.langa...@canonical.com wrote:
What is the risk of regression here by downgrading?  Is use of vgabios
entirely broken today for all users to where things can only get better,
or are there some cases where it works?

The only users positively affected by the new upload are those that
want to use kvm or qemu with the -vga std option. This VGA mode adds
higher resolutions to the SDL window than the default cirrus driver
(which only allows up to 1024x768). I can confirm that the current
vgabios is broken for -vga std, and is working with the pending
upload.

Most users of kvm/qemu either don't use SDL at all (ie, they are using
virt-manager, virsh, or Eucalyptus to launch VMs), and of the
remaining users that do launch KVM from the command line and SDL, most
of those are probably just using the default cirrus driver. Thus, I
suspect that the affect users of this problem are a vocal minority.

That said, I would love to see this fixed for them. Anyone who
launches KVM directly from the command line, and toys around with the
obscure QEMU options are a friend to me, as they're helping test the
dark corners of qemu-kvm.

I have seen no negative effects thus far of downgrading vgabios.
And I really, really, really like the idea of being code-identical
with the vgabios that upstream QEMU released with qemu 0.12.3, as our
support burden is shared.

That said, if we upload this, and the majority of qemu/kvm users
(those not using -vga std) are negatively affect, I'm perfectly fine
with reverting this change in a heartbeat, and asking someone to track
down the precise part of the diff that causes/fixes the current issue.

vgabios has two reverse-dependencies in lucid: qemu-common and bochs.
Has anyone regression-tested this for bochs?

I suspect that the bochs package can possibly be dropped from the
archive. I think qemu was the only user of bochs previously, and
upstream QEMU has switched away from bochs to seabios and vgabios
instead. This needs to be investigated a bit more (perhaps a post on
ubuntu-devel, in case anyone else knows of what in Lucid might still
require bochs.

Attached is the smb.conf from the previous configuration. The
differences should be minor and unrelated to the issue, but I've
attached it in case I am wrong. This configuration worked on the
previous setup with Ubuntu 9.10. When the server was restarted, Windows
systems could resume share connections within about 20 seconds of the
samba service starting (with no restart required)

[Bug 554903] [NEW] apache2 with mod php5 does not execute index.php

2010-04-03 Thread Zalzadore
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

Previously under 9.10 my local installation of SilverStripe (a CMS) was
served up correctly by apache2. Now, if I visit http://localhost/bean or
http://localhost/bean/admin, the index.php files in those directories
are served up as ascii files and not executed. I have modified
/etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf to enable user directory php but
this does not fix the problem.

Other detail:
1. In /etc/apache2/apache2.conf I have set my DocumentRoot to be
/home/adam/public_html
2. The directories /home/adam/public_html/bean and
/home/adam/public_html/bean/admin both have accessible index.php files
3. If I visit http://localhost/bean/index.php the page will render correctly
but not if I visit http://localhost/bean/

/etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf:
IfModule mod_php5.c

FilesMatch \.phps$
SetHandler application/x-httpd-php-source

# prevents .htaccess files from disabling it.
#IfModule mod_userdir.c

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Description:Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS
Release:8.04

In the current release of Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.11 any symlinks present
in a shared folder will not resolve correctly and a path not found error
is triggered on the client-side.

Rolling back the various samba packages and dependencies to 3.0.28a-
1ubuntu4.10 fixes the issue.

[Bug 370666] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 hangs with Caps Lock and Scroll Lock Blinking

2010-04-03 Thread Pramod
Hello Jeremy,

This issue concerns Ubuntu 9.04 and at that time i had already found a
workaround which consisted of downloading another Kernel Version and using
it... The problem was actually with the Kernel (in my case)
Actually i am using 9.10 and i have no problem with the system... Waiting for
the 10.04 release...
I think we can close this issue with the solution of upgrading with the latest
Kernel.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Pramod.

[Bug 553115] Re: nm-applet icon missing or nm-applet crashed

2010-04-03 Thread miked1981
I had this issue in Lucid and the fix for me was to comment out the last
line iface eth0 inet dhcp in /etc/network/interfaces and then reboot.
After that the nm-applet started to manage the wired interface and this
allowed the icon to be displayed. The way I found this was I miss the
sound icon by a pixel and the hidden network manager icon said Wired
Network not managed.

Please sync gpsim 0.24-3 (universe) from Debian testing (main)
This will fix installability for ktechlab and prevent it having to be
removed. The reason it was removed is now OBE. Also please remove from
the sync blacklist.

Changelog entries since the last (removed) Ubuntu version:

gpsim (0.24-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * modified the configuration to remove the dependency on
libgtk+extra-x11-3.0-0. As a result, there is no more gui interface
for gpsim. However, the libraries featured by this build are
sufficient for ktechlab, which provides a graphic interface.

gpsim (0.24-1) unstable; urgency=low

[Bug 530414] Re: Unable to access Galileo Update and Discovery sites

2010-04-03 Thread Mike Pontillo
I, too, am having this problem with Lucid.

If I use OpenJDK, I get spam on the console saying:

$ eclipse
Apr 2, 2010 10:49:08 PM org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodDirector
executeWithRetry
INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request:
Invalid argument
Apr 2, 2010 10:49:08 PM org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodDirector
executeWithRetry
INFO: Retrying request

This happens regardless of -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true on OpenJDK.

If I try the Sun JDK using update-java-alternatives, I get:

No repository found at http://download.eclipse.org/galileo/releases/.

If I do this with the Sun JDK:

$ eclipse -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

... then everything seems to work..

Note, I have an IPv6 address on eth0 via a 6to4 tunnel on my router. I
didn't try removing it. (I would have to both remove it and block IPv6
router advertisements from being processed by the kernel.)

It seems possible that OpenJDK doesn't like the java.net.preferIPv4Stack
property, or it's not working correctly. I'm not sure if it's supported
there.

Re: [Bug 527666] Re: Waiting for /some/partition [SM]

2010-04-03 Thread orgoj
After several restart I see that system sometimes booted, even if
appears message from inotify_add_watch.

Behavior of maintenance shell after pressing M is changed, system now
continue on booting. In version before 2.10 system did reboot.

In fstab I see all instaled mount point by UUID, but I manually add
mount point by path:
/dev/mapper/data-data1 /datareiserfs defaults0 4

[Bug 554432] [NEW] kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:1917!

2010-04-03 Thread Tim Clark
Public bug reported:

I installed the latest 2.6.32-19 kernel and I noticed that this gave me
XV support for videos. However, when I try to use Totem or MPlayer with
XV video output my computer crashes with a message 'Could not write
bytes. Broken Pipe

To recreate this issue I just open a video file (x264 video, ac3 audio
for track 1, aac audio for track 2, muxed to MKV container) with mplayer
using XV video output and it instantly crashes.

[Bug 554431] [NEW] Bluetooth is disabled. Pressing Turn on bluetooth not working

2010-04-03 Thread Yotam Benshalom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

Lucid on Dell xps studio 1340.
After the updates of April 1-3, bluetooth icon appears grayed out. Clicking it
states that bluetooth is on. Using preferences and pressing the button Turn on
Bluetooth makes the button go gray, but nothing more. Basically this is
identical behavior to bug #441800, which is supposedly fixed.
I will be happy to supply further details if necessary.

[Bug 554433] [NEW] [LUCID] cd/dvd not recognized

2010-04-03 Thread jgv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Cd/dvd is not recognized in Lucid. Only when the cd/dvd is in the tray
at startup it works as expected.

In Disk Utility the cd/dvd drive is shown as normal, however the disk
information under Volume is unknown.

I can force Lucid to recognize and mount the disk by pressing the Format
Disk control in the Disk Utility. After an error message the disk is
recognized, shown on the desktop and in /system/media.

This computer works fine until Karmic, where this device is known (and
mounted) in /etc/fstab.

[Bug 513753] Re: can't install python-gnome2-extras

2010-04-03 Thread miked1981
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 509166 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509166

Miro 3.0-0pcf1 will not install without python-gnome2-extras so I installed
Miro 2.5.4-1 via Synaptic Package → Force Version and that worked because it
does not depend on python-gnome2-extras. At least Miro works now. ;)
Python-gnome2-extras 2.25.3-3ubuntu1 will not install. Python-gnome2-extras-dbg
is at version 2.25.3-4.1 along with other related packages. Like ...
Python-eggtrayicon
python-gda
python-gdl
python-gksu2.
And the list goes on. They are all version 2.25.3-4.1 so it looks like extras
is a version behind.

[Bug 554439] [NEW] 64bit Lucid fails during boot due to Nvidia driver

2010-04-03 Thread seanlano
Public bug reported:

On 64 bit Lucid, installed from Beta 1 LiveCD, after installing
nvidia-current (which appears to install successfully) on subsequent boots
the graphical display fails to load, dumping me to tty1. This also happens with
nvidia-173.
The only way I have found to get back to a working graphical display is to
uninstall nvidia-current from the tty display and reboot. Obviously doing
that means the nvidia drivers don't load, and 3D acceleration is unavailable.

Using 32 bit Lucid beta on the same computer the nvidia drivers work
just fine, the problem seems to be with the 64 bit architecture.

[Bug 552391] Re: FeatureFreeze Exception for python-musicbrainz 0.7.2

Thanks, I've built this for a lucid PPA. Buildlog:

I tested the two rdepends on lucid without and with the updated package.
Both worked as expected - performing the correct lookups (based on
searching the source of the apps for uses of the library)

Let me know if you need any further information, thanks

[Bug 551318] Re: Soundcard not detected

This confirms another theory, the live-CD you burned was corrupt, and
that this somehow corrupted the kernel module in use, effectively
removing sound from your system. This is the dmesg entry indicating that

[Bug 554444] [NEW] FTBFS with gcc 4.4

Public bug reported:

Hi,

gcc-4.2 will be removed from lucid, and sdlmame needs to be built with gcc-4.4.
I've tried to build it, but it FTBFS with the following messages:

[Bug 551282] Re: Audio Stopped Working......

2010-04-03 Thread David Henningsson
First, for the alsamixer issue, the M button toggles whether an item
is enabled or not.

Second, the onboard soundcard is not detected at all, this is in order
if you disabled it in BIOS.

You said you have permission problems. Could you elaborate? Is it a
terminal command that returns permission denied, and if so, what
terminal command, and can you please quote the exact error message?

As for system testing, if you just send a hardware report in the end of
the test, that will not file a bug in Launchpad, it will just store the
result in a hardware database. To file a bug, say no to the question
whether the test worked and then yes when you are asked if you want to
file a bug report.

[Bug 366699] Re: LG cell phone mass storage connection hangs usb (it worked great in intrepid)

2010-04-03 Thread scott flynn
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: yelp

When you connect a LG 9100 phone, the phone asks if you want to connect
the mass storage, and when you say yes, the usb connection seems to
hang. It won't mount. lsusb seems to confirm this with no report while
the phone is in mass storage mode - it hangs the terminal window. lsusb
reports the correct phone connected if it is not in mass storage mode
(or you cancel the phones mass storage mode selection). This worked
flawlessly in Intrepid. Also, while using Intrepid, when the usb
connection was made the phone modem would try to install. It doesn't
under Jaunty (This made me suspicious of a problem almost right away).
lsusb reports the phone as a LG Electronics, Inc. vx4400/vx6000
Cellphone (which I believe is correct driver wise...).
