Re: [Bug 513273] Re: kvm with -vga std is broken since karmic
On Fri, Apr 2, 2010 at 10:20 PM, Steve Langasek steve.langa...@canonical.com wrote: What is the risk of regression here by downgrading? Is use of vgabios entirely broken today for all users to where things can only get better, or are there some cases where it works? The only users positively affected by the new upload are those that want to use kvm or qemu with the -vga std option. This VGA mode adds higher resolutions to the SDL window than the default cirrus driver (which only allows up to 1024x768). I can confirm that the current vgabios is broken for -vga std, and is working with the pending upload. Most users of kvm/qemu either don't use SDL at all (ie, they are using virt-manager, virsh, or Eucalyptus to launch VMs), and of the remaining users that do launch KVM from the command line and SDL, most of those are probably just using the default cirrus driver. Thus, I suspect that the affect users of this problem are a vocal minority. That said, I would love to see this fixed for them. Anyone who launches KVM directly from the command line, and toys around with the obscure QEMU options are a friend to me, as they're helping test the dark corners of qemu-kvm. I have seen no negative effects thus far of downgrading vgabios. And I really, really, really like the idea of being code-identical with the vgabios that upstream QEMU released with qemu 0.12.3, as our support burden is shared. That said, if we upload this, and the majority of qemu/kvm users (those not using -vga std) are negatively affect, I'm perfectly fine with reverting this change in a heartbeat, and asking someone to track down the precise part of the diff that causes/fixes the current issue. vgabios has two reverse-dependencies in lucid: qemu-common and bochs. Has anyone regression-tested this for bochs? I suspect that the bochs package can possibly be dropped from the archive. I think qemu was the only user of bochs previously, and upstream QEMU has switched away from bochs to seabios and vgabios instead. This needs to be investigated a bit more (perhaps a post on ubuntu-devel, in case anyone else knows of what in Lucid might still require bochs. :-Dustin -- kvm with -vga std is broken since karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513273 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 554373] Re: When plymouth splash is used, resolutions fail to stick on NVIDIA cards
ProcFB: 0 VGA16 VGA NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Plymouth is not setting the resolution, all it's doing is opening and using the 640x480 VGA framebuffer. [Bug 370666] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 hangs with Caps Lock and Scroll Lock Blinking
Hello Jeremy, This issue concerns Ubuntu 9.04 and at that time i had already found a workaround which consisted of downloading another Kernel Version and using it... The problem was actually with the Kernel (in my case) Actually i am using 9.10 and i have no problem with the system... Waiting for the 10.04 release... I think we can close this issue with the solution of upgrading with the latest Kernel. [Bug 530414] Re: Unable to access Galileo Update and Discovery sites
I, too, am having this problem with Lucid. If I use OpenJDK, I get spam on the console saying: $ eclipse Apr 2, 2010 10:49:08 PM org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodDirector executeWithRetry INFO: I/O exception (java.net.ConnectException) caught when processing request: Invalid argument Apr 2, 2010 10:49:08 PM org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodDirector executeWithRetry INFO: Retrying request This happens regardless of -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true on OpenJDK. If I try the Sun JDK using update-java-alternatives, I get: No repository found at http://download.eclipse.org/galileo/releases/. If I do this with the Sun JDK: $ eclipse -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true ... then everything seems to work.. Note, I have an IPv6 address on eth0 via a 6to4 tunnel on my router. I didn't try removing it. (I would have to both remove it and block IPv6 router advertisements from being processed by the kernel.) It seems possible that OpenJDK doesn't like the java.net.preferIPv4Stack property, or it's not working correctly. [Bug 554431] [NEW] Bluetooth is disabled. Pressing Turn on bluetooth not working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bluez Lucid on Dell xps studio 1340. After the updates of April 1-3, bluetooth icon appears grayed out. Clicking it states that bluetooth is on. [Bug 554439] [NEW] 64bit Lucid fails during boot due to Nvidia driver
Public bug reported: On 64 bit Lucid, installed from Beta 1 LiveCD, after installing nvidia-current (which appears to install successfully) on subsequent boots the graphical display fails to load, dumping me to tty1. This also happens with nvidia-173. The only way I have found to get back to a working graphical display is to uninstall nvidia-current from the tty display and reboot. Obviously doing that means the nvidia drivers don't load, and 3D acceleration is unavailable. [Bug 551282] Re: Audio Stopped Working......
First, for the alsamixer issue, the M button toggles whether an item is enabled or not. Second, the onboard soundcard is not detected at all, this is in order if you disabled it in BIOS. You said you have permission problems. Could you elaborate? Is it a terminal command that returns permission denied, and if so, what terminal command, and can you please quote the exact error message? As for system testing, if you just send a hardware report in the end of the test, that will not file a bug in Launchpad, it will just store the result in a hardware database. To file a bug, say no to the question whether the test worked and then yes when you are asked if you want to file a bug report. -- Audio Stopped Working.. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/551282 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
