[Bug 551130] Re: infinite loop in /etc/init/mysql.conf if mysqld is not running.
Please note that the cause of the problem is that /etc/init/mysql.conf
is trying to start mysqld as user root. If you start as user mysql
everything works fine.
The infinte loop described above in
while ! /usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-file=$HOME/debian.cnf ping
do
sleep 1
done
is caused by mysqld not running and therefore /usr/bin/mysqladmin
--defaults-file=$HOME/debian.cnf ping
failing.
With no proper timeout this causes an infinte loop.
So you have to apply the following 2 fixes to /etc/init/mysql.conf:
1) to make msqld work:
exec sudo -u mysql /usr/sbin/mysqld # - important execute as use
mysql
2) to make sure the loop times out:
count=0
while [ $count -lt 10 ] ! /usr/bin/mysqladmin
--defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping 2/dev/null

Public bug reported: I have a determined volume attached to one instance. If i reboot this intance, and after the reboot i try to use the volume from the instance i cannot see the volume. I attached the volume in the /dev/sdb but when i run fdisk -l after the reboot command, is just listed the /dev/sda. But when i run euca-describe-volumes the volume is still attached to that instance, and when i run euca-detach-volume the volume is not detached (with no error messages). Neither delete the volume is possible after that. Im using eucalyptus with the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When using EBS snashots on EC2, debian-sys-maint is different on new servers, so it stuck forever. Do you have more than one dmesg in /var/log? I have dmesg and dmesg.0, the latter of which is an old dmesg specifically for situations like this. Old kern.log's and syslog's might also have interesting errors. You could probably also SSH into your frozen computer, but I'm really no expert at this. You might also want to try disabling Desktop Effects (compiz) through System-Preferences-Appearance-Visual Effects (Tab). Also pay attention to whether you've hibernated or suspended anytime before the freeze. After those, try the mainline kernel [1]. I mentioned that after the proposed updates thunar was working but slower than usual. Renaming .gnome2 seems to have fixed it; the newly generated .gnome2 directory has returned the speed that was there. Still having two weird issues since the updates: - unable to automount usb flash drives or dvd data discs - when my trash is full and I go to delete it, I get some message that a file cannot be deleted. It does delete though I don't suppose anyone can suggest the names of any other config directories to try and rename so they get recreated. To connect to the LAN server I need to try 4 - 5 times: only the last time the connection is established: every time I get the timeout error and so I need to repeat until I get the connection working. From that moment on, the connection is stable, fast and reliable for the whole day, till shutdown. Furthermore, a new related problem appeared yesterday and today (see the attached PNG image). The APPORT automatic collection and bug reporting procedure opened up to record the crash of GVFS, and this crash happened during the LAN connection attempts. I did as you asked. (took me a while to figure out that Xorg -configure needed a sudo and that it put the new xorg.conf.new in my home directory). Anyway, with the new xorg.conf, the system no longer reboots when I attempt to do a graphical login, instead it hangs with a dead keyboard and no mouse pointer (apparently while trying to draw the top panel). I added the \tOption AIGLX false line to the xorg.conf file, and now I can log in. I am currently running an update on the system (110 packages to download update). Yes, following http://edtake.wordpress.com/2010/05/04/ubuntu-slow- wireless-after-upgrading-to-10-04/ didn't helped either, in contrary, I completely lost my eth1 wlan port, but purging linux-backports-modules- wireless-lucid-generic helped. BTW: According to the wifi mailing list this regression was introduced actually in Sept 2009 by fixing an rt2500pci bug which led to a rewrite of some parts of the wifi kernel stack. The rewritten parts are a common code path of some drivers and as such the problem is persistent for many hardware types. I have got the same problem. Rhythmbox says the purchased songs are transferred to my Ubuntu One Storage or are queued but they won't sync at all. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon I'm not sure that this is the right package against which to file this bug, so please reassign if needed. This bug has been observed identically with xserver-xorg-video-radeon as shipped in current Lucid (1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5), and in the xorg-edgers PPA (1:6.13.99+git20100525.428125c0-0ubuntu0sarvatt~lucid). I have an ATI FireGL 8800 (R200) on an amd64 system running an up-to- date Ubuntu Lucid. First of all, I should point out that OpenGL is currently broken in this configuration. Full-screen GL games will not start up due to bug #557266, and windowed GL programs are clearly not accelerated. I previously had Jaunty installed on this system, and 3D acceleration worked fine then. This bug was encountered while using Wings3D (package wings3d) sans acceleration. I create a simple object (say a cube), select a vertex, and then attempt to move that vertex around freely using the mouse. What should happen is a smooth movement of the vertex and the edges connected to it. Instead, however, (1) the screen freezes, (2) if music was playing in the background, the last quarter-second or so starts looping, and (3) after about ten seconds, the system reboots. The only thing particular about the vertex-move action in Wings3D, so far as I can see, is that it's drawing and redrawing the edge-lines fairly rapidly. The program's intent, of course, is to present a smooth motion that follows the mouse input. (I have not encountered the crash/reboot in any other GL program so far.)
