But for my use this is not neccesary at all. This sort of attitude causes software bloat. We/ubuntu should be careful in what dependencies to mark as required. Either split the nagios-plugins package into a nagios-plugins-samba, or remove the dependency. In the latter case, you can make things neat by editing the script that requires samba to print a nice: you need to install samba if it isn't found. It's using the native DLM. However, it's the only node in the cluster. Our live VM environment is Ubuntu server running KVM and OCFS2 and we have 2 nodes. This box is just a backup server which takes an lvm2 snapshot of the OCFS2 filesystem, exports it over iSCSI and then as a separate cluster mounts the filesystem and copies the VM images off. So, LVM2 snapshot from clusterA is exported as iSCSI device to clusterB which then mounts it and copies the VMs from that device. At some point during the process, machine exporting iSCSI device crashes. So, machine that's crashing isn't really using OCFS2 and therefor doesn't have OCFS2 setup at all? If that's the case, then we can exclude OCFS2 and maybe look at iSCSI. I've just tried to reproduce this ssh'ing from a ubuntu lucid to a
ubuntu natty laptop and running firefox, with no success.
Additional information which would help to debug this:
1. The next time this happens, please do 'apport-collect 728017' which
should give us more details.
2. Can you give me a particular site which always reproduces this?
3. Please do 'wmctrl -m' and 'wmctrl -lG' on the client and give output
here. ('sudo apt-get install wmctrl' if needed to get the program)
4. Please give ps -ef from the client

The OCFS2 filesystem is held on an OpenFiler box. Cluster A is our live VM system with two nodes. Cluster B is the backup system (the box in question). Once a week, the OpenFiler box takes an LVM snapshot of the filesystem normally used by cluster A and exports it as a new iSCSI target. The backup server, which is the sole member of cluster B then connects to the new iSCSI target and mounts the OCFS2 filesystem. It then copies the VM images from inside the OCFS2 filesystem to local disk It then unmounts the OCFS2 filesystem, disconnects from the iSCSI target. The OpenFiler box then stops exporting the backup target, and destroys the snapshot. So yes, the backup server is using OCFS2 properly, but not in the production environment cluster since we're dealing with historical data in the snapshot. The problem is that there is an off-by-one bug in the maverick kernel (already fixed in natty) for when apparmor userspace is compiled against a newer kernel with more AF entries than the kernel that apparmor_paser is bing run on. The options are to SRU a maverick kernel to fix the bug or to adjust the apparmor_parser in natty to do a kernel version check, and cap the number of AF entries appropriately. Could you try doing add-apt-repository ppa:kernel- ppa/ppa and then (after apt-get update) install the package linux-image-generic-lts- backport-natty (or linux- image-server-lts-backport-natty)? Then see whether the images boot under 2.6.38-5. I added the repository and updated, but that did not make any kernel packages available. So, I got http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-lts-backport-natty/linux-image-2.6.38-5-generic_2.6.38-5.32~lucid1_amd64.deb and installed that. It did not change the behavior of kvm (it did change the other thing I mentioned: that kernel would not boot on main power - only on battery). Simply interacting with the firefox window, like moving it around or resizing it, seems to cause it to freeze up, and when it does, so does the rest of the gui, including local apps and the taskbar, etc. firefox seems to be the only app over ssh that seems to cause it so far, xeyes and other things don't. Something that might be related, is that when I am connecting to a mint debian machine over ssh, and try to launch something that asks for permissions, such as synaptic, it freezes everything up to the point that I have to ctlr-alt-f1 and kill the ssh terminal just to get everything to work in ubuntu again. Simple fix not using check_perms.
# chgrp Debian-exim /var/lib/mailman/data/virtual-mailman
If the lists were busy or I hadn't noticed the paniclog until later,
this would have resulted in lost mail!
Running check_perms still shows many permission problems, over 200, but
they haven't affected the lists or the archives. It appears the way
mailman is packaged with the many symbolic links contributed to this
problem.
This bug was found in mailman on Ubuntu 10.04. but I suspect it is an
issue for many of the packaged versions of mailman in Ubuntu and Debian.

Ok, thanks for testing. The pulseaudio alsa-plugin mixer was disabled because it didn't add much value as it was adding confusion. You can see its current value with this terminal command: pactl list - scroll down to the Sink section. Well i was hoping that something was broken with Ubuntu causing my network issues. I'm not sure how to determine if it is a win modem, i think i will call att today/tomorrow on this issue. With any luck i should be of more help. oh when trying to install or even running it is live mode no internet and didnt get any closer to cause since i first saw it, however the problem started after i replaced my modem since i changed my plan slightly(faster modem) on saterday i replaced modem. If there is a way to detect if it is a win modem please let me know. What startted out as a soft lockup has long ago turned into a complete freeze! The soft lockup part is experienced in reboot messages displayed in the onscreen process being executed, they state BUG SOFT LOCKUP 61 secs; however, while I am using the system, I am experiencing the complete freeze of the entire system. I ultimately have to execute a cold-kill with the on/off switch on the machine and follow that with an F10 selecting BOOT from HARD-DRIVE, then in the next screen, I will select recovery mode followed by selecting from the menu- Repair Packages. This will recover the system from the freeze, however if I was using the synoptic package installer, I then have to open a terminal, enter: sudo dpkg --configure -a to recover functionality of the synoptic package installer. This freeze can occur with only one workspace open and no Internet Browsers open or I can have 2-4 workspaces open with multiple downloads going and browsing the internet with anywhere from 8-12 tabs open and 2 browsers online on the same time. It also happens when downloading updates, installing updates, or not until it is doing a cleanup after updaqting. BTW, the version is likely not the issue as I have been running Ubuntu 10.10 Studio edition for nearly 2 monthe using Kernal Linux 2.6.35-27 running GNOME 2.32-0. YES, this IS Release 10.10 (maverick) and it is currently completely up to date. S, what would you have me do? I am willing to run whatever diagnostics you may need and am willing to give a complete report of all system diagnostics your team may require. just send me info on the command line diologues I need to enter and I will fullfill oyur every wish as this is the most completely updated system I see in the reports of this nature. [Bug 728282] [NEW] The R specific toolbar, console, side pane are always visible
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit-r-plugin When opening a file that has nothing to do with R (txt, tex, etc...) the toolbar, side pane and R console are always shown, whereas they are of no use. For example the latex plugin only shows its stuff up when the file is a tex-related file. The interface is unnecessarily cluttered with useless buttons when opening other text files. Plus the option not to start the R console at Gedit startup does not work. It is checked after every gedit startup, which makes it useless.
